"Favorites" threads are against the rules. These threads tend to be vague, and very few people actually discuss anything in them. If you want to talk about Outkast, join the most recent Outkast thread. If you want to know everyone else's favorite artists & bands, look around. There are whole threads dedicated to them.

A bit of advice. Don't reply in threads that haven't been active in over a month (or 3 months, for that matter), especially when there's already a similar thread that's active on the first page. For the sake of not having too many Matrix threads on one page, I'm closing this older one.

No, don't even bother explaining what your post is about. Just type up a couple of words and assume we all know what you're talking about. In case you can't tell, I'm being sarcastic. Thread Closed

I'm not even gonna let this can of worms get opened (too much potential drama and flaming). Versus threads are against the rules, anyway.

The Matrix Revolutions (Possible Spoilers/Image Heavy)
Manic Webb replied to GuyYouMetOnline's topic in Noosphere
By today's standards, The Matrix is a hell of a series. It may not be the deepest thing ever written, and the ideas in it may get a lot of discussion time in high school philosophy classes, but that's a hell of a lot deeper than any other sci-fi film that came out this year. I think the source of most of these complaints is that Reloaded had a lot of hype before its release. People went into that movie expecting to be dazzled by incredible action scenes and thought-provoking dialogue. Reloaded had that, but not to the extent everyone expected. Given, the dialogue in that film was more like a series of back-to-back monologues. When you broke down the 10 minute conversations into plain English, you actually had something to think about. When you compare Matrix Reloaded to something like Space Odyssey, it may fall short on the intellect scale. However, it still blows the past few Star Wars films out of the water. The Lion King was a brilliant animated film, but that doesn't mean you should compare its shortcomings with the greatness of Hamlet. Hamlet would look better by comparison, and we all know it. And now for a few complaints of my own... I like the Matrix series, but that doesn't mean the Reloaded didn't have some serious flaws. Even though Reloaded was just the second of a three-part series (implying that the movie would have some conflicts that would need to be resolved in the final film), there are far too many pieces of the story that need to be found elsewhere. Reloaded's existance has to be justified by a series of comics, several animated shorts, a video game, and the movie after. I haven't read the comics, so I'll leave those alone. However, the events of "Final Flight of the Osiris" and "Enter The Matrix" should have been in the film. They could've been in the film, too, if that rave/sex scene were a lot shorter and the conversations didn't last so long. I mean, come on! Interpreting and translating the dialogue with my friends makes for some good after-movie conversation, but I don't think anybody appreciates having to explain everything the Architect said, or why he pretty much said everything at least twice. Just my thoughts. -
Trailers have been a part of the movie experience since theatres became popular and started popping up around the country. Even in the days of black & white films before television, you'd see the news, a short cartoon, the feature film, and then the trailers/previews. The only difference is that now they show the trailers before the movie instead of after (so people don't walk out of the movie as soon as the credits start rolling). They do have a habit of showing too many of them, but you're a captive audience encouraged to stop talking. They're taking advantage of your undivided attention, and they'll never have that kind of opportunity on television. Anyway, I don't think the previews will be going anywhere. Although hopefully, the motion picture association might regulate the length or amount of them in the future. Who knows.
Originally posted by Gohan Egret Irregardless, swearing only affects me if it comes from someone who I least expect it.
"Irregardless" ain't a word. :D I'm expecting a reply to that involving my use of the word "ain't." I remember my Creative Writing teach in high school said that excessive use of cuss words shows a lack of intelligence, especially in writing. Unless your teachers are joking around, I'd worry about them dropping 17 F-bombs in a row. My Broadcasting teacher has a prime-time rule. Basically, you can say whatever you want, as long as it would be appropriate for prime-time television. That's not a problem to me, because I put myself on a personal PG13 limit.

If you could be a rapper for a day who would you be?

I gave it a chance, but this thread is basically spam. Thread Closed -
Try discussing the show a little more, nightwingfan. No, Nightwing has not shown up in JL. No one from the Bat-Family has. Some of them might make a cameo some day (Lois Lane and Jimmy managed to get a couple of cameos, so far), but none of them have appeared. Kyle Rayner will never show up on JL. Neither will Hal Jordan. The writers screwed up big-time when they gave Kyle Hal's backstory in an episode of Superman. They aren't planning to open that can of worms again (especially with John Stewart present), so there'll be no Kyle Rayner on Justice League.

Weren't both Hawkman and Hawkgirl memebers of the Justice League in the comic? The makers of the show were going to use both of them, but there's really no point in using both hawk-people. They needed another woman in the team in addition to Wonder Woman, so they decided to use Hawkgirl. Batman isn't that young in the animated series. He's got to be close to pushing 40. The timeline for Justice League animated follows the timeline to Batman: The Animated Series and The New Batman Adventures. At this point, Batman is so old that he's already on his third Robin. And I thought Wonder Woman could fly. The only times I've seen her use that invisible jet of hers is in the old Superfriends cartoon and the live-action 1970s TV series.
Originally posted by James This is also starting to become a problem in the United States, as well as other places. When you have a very large population of seniors, the minority are then forced to financially support the majority. It obviously becomes very difficult.
Not to go off topic, but this reminds me of an episode of the TV show Sliders. In one episode, they entered an alternate Earth where, during the 1980s, the US government discovered that social security would ruin the economy in the long run. In result, all people over the age of 30 are forced into retirement. I'm also reminded of the film Logan's Run. In the distant future, resources have become so scant, that the population has very strict controls. All people have timers implanted in their hands that activate once they turn 30 years old. All people over 30 are forced to participate in a "cleansing" ceremony, which is basically a mass killing. I forget most of the movie, but I think either nobody was allowed to have sex or they were only allowed to conceive with assigned people. I really don't remember. Just a little something to chew on.

I remember I was sitting in Borders reading manga, when I saw this weird manga cover of two teenagers at a rave and the title said "Rave Master." Most misleading manga cover ever. It's still pretty good, though. A lot of wacky humor, and even wackier characters. It does have sort of a wandering storyline, but some of the sideplots always seem to cross paths with the main plot. I've only read the first 3 or 4 volumes, though. I'd forgotten all about it lately, because I was waiting too long for the next volumes to be released. Thanks for reminding me. I think I read somewhere that Cartoon Network is trying to acquire and air the anime for next year. Could just be a rumor, though.

I don't have the Cable TV plan that comes with TV Land, so I have to settle for regular old Nick at Nite. When I go to my dad's house, I do catch TV Land there. I just found out that there was a spin-off series of Bewitched called Tabitha, about their daughter after she grew older and had a career working side-by-side with her brother Adam. Wasn't quite as good as Bewitched, as the "husband tells wife to not to use magic so they'll be a normal couple" dynamic was replaced with "little brother tells older sister not to use magic for even flimsier reasons." Gotta love TV Land for the shows they do air. Given, they could stand to acquire a few more shows.

1) Anime threads belong in the Anime Lounge 2) Even if I moved this thread into the Anime Lounge, it'd probably get closed because favorite threads aren't allowed and you could talk about each of those anime in separate threads. Before you post, try looking around first. See if the thread you're starting really belongs in that forum. Check the first page or two for threads just like one you're planning to make. If you want to talk about Saiyuki, you can make a thread all about Saiyuki in the Anime Lounge. This is spam. Thread Closed

What would you do if life had an "undo" button?
Manic Webb replied to Kieko's topic in General Discussion
There are some things I just wouldn't mess with, but there are a few moments back in high school where I wish I could fix all of my relationship troubles. I'd undo my relationship with a girl I knew in 10th grade. I never let her in, and I basically lost my chance to get close to her. I'd redo that moment she subtly asked me out to the Sadies dance (I didn't know she was asking me at the time. It took me until next year's Sadies to figure it out) and I'd go with her. I'd also undo my entire senior year for 2 main reasons. 1.) So I could have a different lunch period 2nd semester and wouldn't be stuck hanging out at lunch with my friend Alex's conceited friends. 2.) So I could've found a date to prom. I don't appreciate getting lied to by a girl who says she's not going to be there, and then I run into her on the dance floor. Not to mention my grandfather rented a Lincoln Towncar for my prom and forgot to ask for a stretch, so I had to sit up front with the driver. -
2Gether was a satire band, so all of their songs tend to make fun of typical BSB/N Sync songs. "Say It (Don't Spray It)" is taking the old cliche "Say it, don't spray it. I want the news, not the weather." as a chorus and throwing a bunch of obvious sexual references around it. "Before We Say Goodbye" (my favorite song from the CD) pokes fun at two people breaking up. "Rub One Out" is a song about masturbation. All the the songs have verses that are purposesly sexual, while the choruses are always light and child-friendly. It's funny in a sense that you have to realize that their lyrics make fun of other boybands without actually naming any names. I'd forgotten all about my old S Club 7 obsession. I have their first two albums (S Club, and 7). I'm kinda upset, because I got the first US release of 7 which didn't include "Never Had A Dream Come True." A few months after "7" hit US stores, it got re-released in the US with 2 new songs. I even made an AMV using an S Club 7 song. However, after their TV show went from LA to Hollywood in the 3rd season, I got tired of them. Their songs from the "Sunshine" album showed absolutely no growth from the "7" album. The show lost its charm. One of the members left the group. And to top things off, Rachel decided to get married in real life! Don't look at me.

*shudder* That evil EVIL Ricky Martin CD I bought. Like everybody, I was into the song "Livin' La Vida Loca." I liked the song so much that I bought Ricky Martin's CD; the most boring CD ever forged on this green Earth. I tried to get rid of it, but I kept finding it over and over. I hid it under my bed, and it was on my desk one day. I hid it in my bottom drawer, and it came back! There's no getting rid of it! To this day, it still lurks in the farthest reaches of my room. I also own 2Gether's CD. Don't ask. Just don't ask.

I'm African-American, Creole, and Cherokee. And for anyone else struggling with the difference between Creole and Cajun, let's turn to the dictionary... Creole: A person descended from or culturally related to the original French settlers of the southern United States, especially Louisiana. A person descended from or culturally related to the Spanish and Portuguese settlers of the Gulf States. A person of mixed Black and European ancestry who speaks a creolized language, especially one based on French or Spanish. Cajun: A member of a group of people in southern Louisiana descended from French colonists exiled from Acadia in the 18th century. A member of a group living in southern Alabama and southeast Mississippi, of mixed white, Black, and Native American ancestry. Differences: Cajun generally refers to Acadian ancestry (which is based in French Canadian ancestry, which is indirectly French) and can include Native-Americans. Creole refers to French ancestry directly, and can include Spanish ancestry as well. And now you know. :)

I don't remember which comedian said it, but one of them said... "Somehow, I don't think badmouthing the President of the United States (in a foreign land, during a time of war) sits well with the Nascar crowd." As Americans, they have the right to say whatever they want about their own government (even if it means they disagree with a decision such as occupying a country in the Middle East). However, they knew who their fanbase was, and they should've known that Toby Keith and about a dozen other Country singers were going to attack them for saying what they said. However, the controversy should increase their record sales (worked for Eminem), so let's just hope they know what they're doing.

It was cancelled a few years ago. It nows lives in rerun syndication on Nickelodeon, with Cartoon Network sometimes playing Wakko's Wish. In fact, I think Wakko's Wish was the final Animaniacs production made.

A quote from Glen Murakami, creator of the Teen Titans animated series... (from Animation Insider)
Animé has been a big influence on the show - everything from Speed Racer and Kimba the White Lion to the work of creators like Osamu Tezuka, Ishinomori Shotaro and Hiyao Miyazaki. The series FLCL was a major influence. I'm from a generation that grew up watching animé shows like Battle of the Planets and G-Force. I think my generation, and the kids growing up today, will be familiar with some of the style and techniques we'll be bringing to U.S audiences on Teen Titans. Having worked on series like Superman, Batman: The Animated Series, Batman Beyond and Justice League, it gave me a clear example of what had been done in this genre, and that we were going to try to move in a different direction. The look of Teen Titans is different than any other superhero show created for an American or western market because no other show has been so heavily influenced by animé. We use some "super-deformed" kind of takes, which I think of as a Japanese equivalent to a Tex Avery approach.
Also, just in case you were wondering about this Glen Murakami person, here's a little background info...
Glen Murakami began his career at Warner Bros. Animation in August 1991 as a character designer and storyboard artist on Batman: The Animated Series. In 1993, he moved on to serve as a character designer for the feature Batman: Mask of the Phantasm. In 1994, Murakami drew the Eisner Award-winning comic books Batman Adventures' Holiday Special and the Batman Adventures Annual Demons. Additionally, Murakami served as character designer on the animated Wildstorm Pictures feature film Gen 13, before returning to Warner Bros. in 1995 to serve as art director on Superman. Most recently, Murakami served as a producer on the futuristic hit Batman Beyond for the Kids' WB!, winning an Emmy Award for the 2000-01 season of that show. He then served as a producer for Justice League, the Cartoon Network series that chronicles the adventures of Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman and the rest of the world's greatest superheroes.
Teen Titans is an American show. It's not necessarily an anime, although Murakami admits that anime had a large influence when he made the show.

I was in Borders (I'm beginning to think I spend too much time there) when I happened upon Maroon 5's CD and a set of headphones connected to it. I decided to take a listen. I was a really surprised by their sound. The entire album is saturated in the Blues. The songs combine an alternative Rock style with an edgier style of Blues. Some of the instruments in some songs sound a little synthesized, and a couple of songs suffer melodically for it. Other than that, their musical style is something new to me, and I think it's pretty good. Their sound isn't flawless, and the constant use of a Casio keyboard didn't work in a couple of songs. But it's a nice change from what I usually listen to.
