I saw something about The Kami on television once. It's interesting to know that Kami-sama in Dragonball is supposed to be God. Of course, the whole "godness" thing just gets weird in DBZ, where Kami turns out to be the lowest ranked god in the entire series. The "guardian" thing is a misnomer that came from the dub, because it'd seem a little weird for the characters to be more powerful than God. Plus it's a major religious reference, and that's a big no-no.
Originally posted by The Vampire: Ed Why would people pay to see a movie about a man being stranded on a deserted island talking to a volley ball for about three hours?
I can't stand Cast Away. The movie is completely stupid. If any other actor had been in it, it would've flopped... badly. But because Tom "Gimme An Oscar" Hanks was in it, critics and movie-goers somehow thought the 30 minutes of pure silence was "deep." That movie was entirely dependant on who starred in it, not on the plot or how good the actor was. Anyway, about Willard. Rats creep me out. In fact, they make me kinda itchy just to look at. The commercials don't make it seem all that appealing to me, although they did re-kindle my love for old Michael Jackson songs. Ah, Ben.

Personally, I blame all of the saucer-sightings and other hoo-ha on that corn-blasted "War of the Worlds" radio show. Nobody ever told the newspapers that they saw a weird flying object, or saw a strange circular pattern in their cornfield, until after that radio show aired.

I heard about their relationship a while ago. I thought they were engaged, but I didn't know for sure. Good to know that they've both found happiness and all. Of course, if Alexis doesn't treat her right... ;) I'll be there.

I always wanted to know how the Daft Punk anime-video story ended. Last I saw, the band was turned into humans and... Daft Punk didn't come out with another video after that.

I've never seen an alien, and I don't think there have been any on this planet lately. I do think there is life on other planets, but even if they're capable of long-range space travel, I doubt they're downing a few drinks at the bar in Area 51, talking about old times on Mars. The crop circles and cattle abductions? Yeah, right. I'm sure that if aliens really did try to sneak over farms to conduct experiments, they'd try just a little harder to not let their presence be known. I mean, if they could cloak themselves from standard radars, you'd think their ship wouldn't leave crop circles in every field they land in. Simply put, I don't believe any of the crazy conspiracies, but I think there might just be life out there somewhere. I don't think any aliens have visited Earth (although that would explain the whole pyramid thing).

Actually, a sociopath would probably like war. But that's beside the point... I agree with TN. I don't think we're being told the whole story about why we're going to war. It just feels like some very important element is missing from the equation; like there's a clear and obvious reason for this war that we're not being told.

See that line? No, not that one. This one... -------------------m-a-k-i-n-g----s-e-n-s-e---------------------- Yeah, comparing U.K. and U.S. to Nazi Germany and Facist Italy may just have crossed it a little. For starters, both societies were facist. Last I checked, neither the U.S. or U.K. built special camps or death chambers, although one might find the modern definition of a "ghetto" in certain inner cities. I can't begin to say what's wrong with that comparison. It's just... odd. *begins to wonder why almost no one has addressed his previous question*

I can see why they've been battling for so long, what with Islam and Judaism being completely different religions and all. I mean, it's not like Islam was derived(sp?) from Judaism or anything. That would involve something ludicrous, like the Torah and Quar'ran sharing similar books in their holy texts. Wait a minute... Yeah, so I don't support either side. I think they're both being incredible petty and (dare I say) stupid. However, I don't see a simple solution. There won't be peace until there are two independant countries named Palestine and Israel, and both contain the city of Jerusalem (but not sharing the same city). And why? Because (and I'm using a generalization, here) both sides are blind.

Has anyone seen the movie Mommy Dearest? It's a pretty old movie, but still very good. For those of you who've never seen it... It's the story of the beloved actress Joan Crawford (ask your grandparents). She was loved by millions, had hit movie after hit movie, won numerous awards, helped found the Pepsi Cola company, and even adopted two children who she raised as her own. What the movie uncovers is how unstable Joan was, and how abusive she was to her children, Christina and Christopher. Rather than call her "Mother" or simply "Mommy", the children had to call her "Mommy Dearest" at all times. Christopher (Chris) tossed and turned too much in bed, so she had him strapped to his bed at night. Christina (Tina) had hung a $400 dress on a wire hanger (wire hangers tend to leave marks and stains on thin fabrics and lightly colored clothing), and Joan beat her with the hanger, and later enrolled her in a boarding school for her overly-smug attitude. It's a very interesting movie, for a look back on Hollywood actresses before tabloids had snapshots and footage of them on the toilet. It's interesting to see a woman suddenly snap and scream "No wire hangers, ever" at a little girl, out of the blue.
Originally posted by gokents Anarchy is what allows bad governments into power. Look at afghanistan and you should know that the taliban took over because the warring factions were creating "anarchy." So with a single power larger than others, they created what they considered a national power/government. This goes to show that even in anarchy there is a form of government in a sense... that form of government is called the strongest gang. This is why we cannot allow anarchy... when the strongest are justifying anything they do by means of their own strength, the weak will always be oppressed.
When was the last time Bush sent aid to Afghanistan, by the way? Last I heard, after the Taliban were kicked out, anarchy ensued and the people currently are fighting amongst themselves. Meanwhile, there's practically a big fat "0" in Bush's budget to help Afghanistan next year.
Originally posted by Endymion ANYWAY, I have one critical question to ask. Since Saddam Hussein is such a horrible man toward his own people, why would the U.S. (knowing this) give the man chemical weapons during the 1980s? Or did he only start harming Iraqi citizens after he attacked Kuwait?
While I support all of our soldiers who are out there, and I really just don't like Saddam Hussein, I'm still anti-war. I am, however, pro-Super-Coup!! I still stand by my idea that, if anything, we should have helped rebels organize a coup so grand, the French Revolution (the event that invented the word "terrorist") would look like two 5 years olds throwing snide remarks at one another. But that's just me being silly. In fact, I've noticed that most of my posts in this thread seem to be centered around very bad humor. I wonder if I'm just covering my fear with a not-so humorous front. ANYWAY, I have one critical question to ask. Since Saddam Hussein is such a horrible man toward his own people, why would the U.S. (knowing this) give the man chemical weapons during the 1980s? Or did he only start harming Iraqi citizens after he attacked Kuwait?

I saw the special on VH1. They wanted to cast someone who
could kill a man, but be almost innocent enough for the audience to not hate her
. I'm not too familiar with Zellwegger's previous work (which some people seem to not like), so to me, she fit in the role pretty well. Hell, I almost thought Roxy was the victim.
Originally posted by Semjaza Azazel I think the real issue is that all this is destroying TV programming. I don't need complete 24 hour coverage on EVERY SINGLE CHANNEL, especially when it's basically a reporter taking 15 minutes to say "There's nothing new happening here, check back later." And this is going to go on for weeks. Can't they just report breaking news or something? If I miss the Simpsons for a few weeks, I'm going to start my own war against the TV stations here.
I'm already organizing an "Anti Program Interrupting False Alarm News Casts" protest. I'm going to chain myself around Warner Bros. Studios, followed by a picket in front of FOX. Who's with me?! These jokes aren't to make light of the war, but to take a moment away from the "people are going to die" mentality that most of us have about it. There's nothing wrong with a war joke, as long as you have the right timing and you know not to offend anyone. If anyone finds any jokes that come out of this thread offensive, then please say so.
Originally posted by Schratn9 Guys, I seriously don't think its time to be Jokeing around about War...
Actually, this is the perfect time to joke around about war. In tense and stressful situations, one of the best things to do to relieve stress is to laugh. Now, laugh with me!

LOL I nearly died laughing at the end of the episode when Will and Fred were talking. Fred just kept on yapping and yapping, and Willow just told her "I'm seeing someone." I found the floaty demon head kinda funny, too. Cordy obviously hasn't seen Willow in a while, because a floating transparent demon head isn't going to distract her like it would in high school. Willow: How's it going? Cordy: Higher power. Willow: Ultimate evil. I love how casually Joss' characters sum up the past few years. Like when Willow turned Amy into a human again, and Amy and Buffy exchanged a few words. All they said to each other was "rat" and "dead." Very funny. It's sad to see Angelus go, but it was funny to see him live through Angel's memories like that. LOL, "Mandy." Faith: You know the definition of insanity is reliving the same moment over and over, and expecting it to turn out differently. I learned that in rehab.

What would you do with a Trillion dollars?
Originally posted by vegeta rocker The way they mix the genres makes them tight. If they get too rappy they end up sounding dumb. I couldn't stand it's going down with the executioners.
Blasphemer!! I loved "It's Going Down." One thing I always liked about Linkin Park is the way it blends rap and rock. I'm barely a rock fan (not much of a rap fan, relative to some people, either), but LP is one of the few rock bands I actually listen to. They blend rap and rock very well, and much better than some of these other rock-rap-rock bands. Anyway, I heard their new single, and it seems pretty good. After "In The End" kept being played every 3 seconds on every radio station and video channel (it was good the first 1,001 times I heard it, but after that first day...), I couldn't stand listening to them. But after a good break, it's good to hear from them again.
Originally posted by gokents Also, hitler believes in anti-semitism. Both were jailed as young men. Both were frustrated authors.
Really? I heard Hitler was a frustrated sketch artist or something. Anyway, it just occurred to me, Bush' intent (well, one of his intentions) is probably to prevent the events that started WWII from happening all over again. If I remember correctly, the League of Nations shrugged off Hitler's first few violations (taking back part of old Germany from France, ect.) because of their fear of going to war. By the time the League went to war, Poland was already ghetto-ized. I guess Bush assumes that if he doesn't do something, some country neighboring Iraq will get conquered, and we'll start WWII all over. It's not just Pre-emption, it's far too many constanants in a row for one English word (e.m.p.t.).

I generally do not support war, but in this case, the statistics just add up. Torture, rape, poisoning. To say the least, Hussein has been treating his own people very poorly. I hate to admit it, but the U.N. has gone through roughly 12 failed peaceful resolutions for Hussein to get rid of his own chemical weapons, plus the ones we gave him back in the 80's. I just want the man to hurry up and be removed from office. All I ask is that when this is all over (assuming the U.S. wins, of course), Bush and the UN remember to help Iraq re-set its new government. After our mess-up in Afganistan (kicking out the Taliban and leaving the people to fight amongst themselves until they form their own government through years of civil war-like violence), Bush could at least keep his promise to liberate the people of Iraq, and not just kick out its current leader.

I am guilty of one prejudice of people who dress gothically or punk-ly. I'm a big R&B music fan, and I tend to assume that anyone who dresses punk doesn't like R&B music. Other than that, it's your thing. Do what you wanna do. The last time I passed by someone with colorful hair and dressed differently, I treated him just like the guy I passed by who was dressed similar to myself... like a perfect stranger who was passing by. I say there's nothing wrong with getting tattoos as long as you do it for you and not because of some friend you may or may not have longer than the tattoo. In the end, personality wins out over first impressions... as long as you have time, anyway. Look at the Mandatory Institution for Superficial Judgement (see also: high school & Jr. High). Oh, you can walk the popular walk, and you can dress like the beautiful people, but you won't be popular if your personality clashes with that of "The Sheep" (see also: popular folks).

I have a pierced ear. It's been pierced since I was 4 years old. My brother (who was 10 at the time) talked my mother into letting him get one, and my mom asked me if I wanted one, too (true story!). I lost a lot of earrings in my childhood. Nowadays, I only wear an earring on special occasions (prom, graduation, holidays). I considered coloring my hair red a couple of times (while it was long), but I decided against it because my grandmother was already giving me enough trouble just for my hair being long. I might color it someday. I'd never get a tattoo, though. I'm so fickle, I'd be hating my tat by the end of the week. I don't understand how those parents would over-react around you guys. I mean, how old were they? If they were under 30, you'd think they would be used to piercings and tattoos during the 80's and/or 90's.
Originally posted by Shyguy 'Angel' eclipses Buffy in terms of overall quality this season. What the heck do you think is going on with Cordy?
I have a theory. It could be bunnies. *crickets chirp* Maybe this evil has been with her the whole time she's been half-demony. Like, maybe there was a presence inside of her that didn't start to surface until recently. For a while, I thought it might be her unborn child (think of Phoebe on "Charmed), but The Beast was around before Cordy had the chance to have sex with anyone demonic (ie. Connor).

I think Andrew is ok. I mean, I'd rather that Jonathan had joined the Scoobies instead, but Andrew needed the attention. He was the only member of the Trio without any prior episodes. He was pretty funny in "Storyteller." For some reason, the idea of a slayer having kids never crossed my mind. I mean, they're constantly in the face of demonic danger, they tend to be loners, and the average slayer doesn't live past her 20s. How could Wood's mom even think of raising a son? Even more surprising, why would someone name their son Robin when their last name rhymes with Hood? Robin Wood? Ok... In Kennedy's defense, she's like the oldest Potential in the house. She's 19, or something like that. With that and her higher training than the rest of the Potentials, she (understandably) considers herself higher ranked than the rest of the Potentials and at the same level as the rest of the Scoobies. Her character makes herself stand out. Besides, she dated her way into the starting lineup, just like Anya, Oz, Tara, Riley, and Jenny. LM, how many episodes has Faith been on "Angel" for? She's only been on for two, here. Next week, Willow makes a guest appearance (and kicks magical arse).
