My best friend's always angry with me for some reason. Well, he and I never had a relationship, and we were quite similar in other areas of our lives too. And my bf and I think that my best friend had a crush on me... So when I started dating, I guess my best friend felt left behind... or something...
I used to do that when one of my friends got a girlfriend. I was jealous, but somehow it became his fault that I was still single, and I guess at the same time I felt insecure because I thought it would threaten our friendship. Which is stupid, because if I hadn't reacted like that then there wouldn't have been a problem in the first place. It's irrational, but more often than not I'd be able to swallow my grievances and tolerate being there, as awkward as it made me feel. But yeah, Alan's right. I now elaborate for no real reason. From a guy's point of view, even if you're best friends and have never had a relationship together, more often than not there's something in the back of your mind that says 'there's still the chance of a relationship here', even if you know it's not what you want. Because you still share a close bond and feel comfortable together in a similar way that you would in a working relationship. Once you attach a significant other to you, he may feel that even though you're still friends, he's lost the chance to share that closer connection to you, even if it wasn't what he was looking for, if that makes sense. It may be more a case of 'living in hope but not doing anything about it' than an actual crush.

To be honest, I didn't mind LEGO licensing thsmeslves out to other franchises. After all, it's still LEGO, and the chances are they'd only have had to try and re-invent the old castle and city lines anyway (which they subsequently have). A friend and I recently went halves on a LEGO Star Wars Star Destroyer, and it was really great fun to put together, and looks amazing. I had been sceptical of LEGO's franchising moves at first, but I think it came at a time when i was growing out of LEGO anyway. Now I've not played with it in ages I've suddenly found a whole new appeal to it- my friend and I spent about 14 hours in total building a massive science complex/living quarters for a lab on another planet. And it was great ^_^ Admittedly I'd never buy the Spiderman range because I'm not so sure it works by itself (hence why it comes with a cameraman and director, I think), but the Dino-Expidition or whatever it's called has a really nice-looking helicopter that I almost got as well. I used to be into Bionicle but sort of fell out with it after watching the movie. That could have been better.

Well done for getting through the secrecy bit. I had an incredibly tough time when I was seeing someone at college a few years back. Basically, we fancied each other, but she said she wanted to keep it casual and didn't want anyone in the class to know. At the time I was pretty accepting of the situation (plus I was completely high on emotion), so didn't think anything of it. I never knew exactly why, though. She wasn't exactly a 'public display of affection' type, but neither was I. The very next day, at college she completely blanked me. Wouldn't even look at me. Even despite the fact that before we said we wanted to see each other we'd been talking nineteen to the dozen, she completely ignored me. By this time I'd gotten completely carried away with my own emotions and didn't know how to handle it. I found it incredibly stressful and was never sure whether she was actually still interested in me or not, especially as I couldn't stop the other guys trying things on with her because it would have aroused suspision. Anyways, this went on for about four weeks, and I ended up liking her a lot more than she liked me, and I was completely crushed. Hated it. I haven't had a relationship since, heh ^_^; But I'm glad to hear you're doing okay. I guess sometimes people may be insecure about how certain things may be taken by friends; I know judging by the way some of my friends have reacted to other people's relationships, it can completely change the dynamics of a group. It's possible he just wanted to sort something else out with his life before outwardly showing the relationship to anyone else. Or he may have been nervous about whether it was going to work or not- it can be pretty awkward having all your friends sheering you on in a relationship only to have things fall apart a week later for whatever reason. But eh, it's just speculation. I hope you enjoy your time together, and that the good times last for you both ^_^
You despise those who steal? I have a question, why is it that you think most people steal in the first place? They don't steal out of greed in most situations, they steal out of necessity. They steal because they have no money, no food, no shelter, nothing. Is it wrong for the unfortunate to take from the fortunate? Was Robin Hood morally in the wrong?
Actually, I'd be inclined to say that most theft (well, the serious stuff) is used to fuel drug-related activities. Except the smaller stuff between primary and secondary school- you know, toys, pencils and the like. That's more 'I want what you have so I'm going to take it', and not yet understanding the consequences. I can't give any more constructive advice, really. Talking to her about kleptomania is far too clinical an approach. I seriously doubt she'll respond to it and probably won't budge on giving it back. Lika Sara said, you need to consider whether your friendship is worth maintaining, and if it isn't then I'd just take the whale back.
By setting this condition into play, I also bring in some of the new pokemon - Jirachi, Rayquaza, Groudon, Kyogre, and Deoxys.[/size']
Yeah, but if you're looking at Legendary Pokemon, then of course they're going to be stupidly powerful- it's the same with Digimon. MaloMyotismon, the four ancients (the Zuquiaomon lot)... bearing in mind what they're said to have achieved in the series (the creation of Digivices, regulation of the balance of the entire Digital World, etc), they'd have to be on a similar level to those Pokemon, if nothing else. The Dark Masters weren't exactly easy to take down, either (although WarGreymon did manage to destroy two of them just because he had an advantage against 'dramon' types). And they were Digimon created by another Digimon- so it's not even as if they had help digivolving. Had the digivices not been created,
Apocalymon would have completely annihilated both the Digital and real worls when he exploded at the end of series 1
. And if you've seen Digimon: X-Evolution, the powers the Mega-levels show there is stupidly, stupidly high. Ecch, it's all academic. I like Digimon, so I'm always going to be biased to them. That said, I also think they're stronger on the whole.
Pokemon do in fact die in the pokemon red and blue version in lavender town you will encounter a marowak that team rocket killed. and can not captutre so pokemon can die. it just not used that often in the games or Anime series.
Fair enough. But how sentient are Pokemon in the understanding of why they battle? It's clear that most Digimon can think for themselves in the way they speak; hence they can express their reasoning. But (and this brings me onto my point in a second) the trainer pretty much speaks and acts on behalf of the Pokemon. While Digimon and their humans work co-operatively, Pokemon are under a much greater level of control when they fight. hence, They're subject to the wills of their trainer which, unless you have an amazing strategist and a high-level Pokemon, limits the overall effectiveness of your partnership. It's not as if the Pokemon can necessarily make vital decisions in the heat of battle unless it's been trained by itself in the wild and has experienced combat there. Training for Pokemon battles is all very well, but Digimon fight for survival, rather than just for a victory.
Plus nobody said that the didmon would have a human partner in the fights.
No, but since everyone assumes that Pokemon always fight with a human companion, it would be a biased fight to begin with if the Digimon didn't have one as well. It's not a fair argument otherwise.
but i know is that a digimon can not digivlove unless their a human partner to give them that power.
That's not true. Digimon can digivolve by themselves under special circumstances. Myotismon digivolved twice without the aid of a human partner, Etemon did and in the movie Kokomon went all the way from Baby to Mega without a willing human partner to carry him along.

My friend and I have known each other for seventeen years now, and he's currently staying with me as a result of his parents moving away and leaving him rather high-and-dry. Everything's been working out pretty well- he's a fantastic friend and we get along perfectly. Having him here's been amazing. But lately, due to various work pressures on the both of us (mostly on his part), he's not been eating regularly, and I can't convince him to do otherwise. Not only is he getting quite dangerously thin and lacking of energy, he's also run out of money and is trying to arrange himself so he doesn't have to sell his car (which would only make his situation worse on all counts). I've been tempted to phone his parents and let them know my concerns; as he said 'they'd only want to help', but he's adamant that he doesn't want them to know and that he can get it all sorted. As far as I saw it, I had a number of options: 1. Phone his parents and let them know so they can help. 2. Trust him to help himself and do nothing. 3. Leave him to his own devices for a while, but step in if things become catastrophically bad. I'm gunning for option 3, but it's been really hard to balance my desire to help him out of the situation as soon as possible against the possible consequences of our friendship. To an extent I've always held the belief that 'It doesn't matter if he likes me or not- I just want him to be happy', but that can be a rather destructive view if you go about trying to help and expecting that they'll dislike you for it afterwards. So... how far do your friendships go? Are you willing to risk everything you share between you just to help them? Have you had any situations where you've agonised over the exact solution to a serious problem of theirs? Did you follow through, and how did it turn out?
Well i always been a Pokemon fan and it's not like digimon are that powerful unless they have a human partner. with out that factor a digimon isn't that powerful and pokemon characters power come from the trainers determination and spirit. so a pokemon can't lose the fight. now if a digimon digivolve to like mega level you have to have a pokemon like mewtwo or lugia go into the fight that's the only way i see you could make these even close to a fair fight. Well that's my 2 cents
If you're talking about a Pokemon getting better with a trainer, then it only stands to reason that a Digimon should have a human partner to fight with too. In which case, even a level 70 Pokemon is about the equivalent to an Ultimate Level Digimon. It takes a long, long time for a Pokemon to level up, and even then it doesn't show a vastly significant alteration to it stats. Levelling up a Pokemon is a long, drawn-out process. Digivolving is instantaneous, and results in a huge increase in strength, size, speed, stamina, power... So if you've got a Pokemon plus one human against a Digimon plus one human, then a Digimon'd always win. I think even Mewtwo and Lugia would be hard pressed to beat a Digimon- the powers they display are similar to Champion/Ultimate level Digmon standards. Also, think about this for a second: Digimon die. I know this is mostly due to the general audience of the anime and various writing standards, but if Pokemon never die during a fight, they have nothing to lose. You can argue that this means they're near-immortal, but even so, to know and understand what death actually means considerably alters they way you fight. I think the number of attacks they have is irrelevant, anyway. If you're looking at Pikachu for example, most of his attacks are a variety of different electrical bursts (e.g. Static Chock, Thunder), which are essentially exactly the same type of attack, just in differing levels of intensity and frequency. There's no reason why a Digimon like Agumon couldn't also regulate the strength and/or frequency of his Pepper Breath to make it slightly different each time. Simply because the monster has a greater number of named attacks doesn't mean they can physically do more. Like Quick Attack- that's just running into the opponent at high speed. Not exactly a challenging thing to implement in battle, even if you don't know what the name of the attack is.

For me, the best bit about this film was when
the wolf and the squirrel were in the mine cart, and the squirrel lights what he calls the 'Dy-na-mi-tay' candles.
That one line was the high point, and considering I'd seen it in the trailer already, I was most disappointed by the rest of the film. I don't think the phrase 'Favourite threads are not allowed' exists in this OB era. Ever since I first started moderating Yu-Gi-Oh I always treated favourites threads as Desbreko described. It's unfair to close threads just because they have the potential to get spammy as long as they're handled responsibly. Similarly, you could also immediately close any threads discussing values about marriage or homosexuality because they could get abusive. You can usually tell from the outset what it's going to be like, but it's not always the case. If you look at the Boards four/five years ago I'd say the overall quality was probably significantly worse than it is now, hence the reason for stricter controls over the threads that popped up. We're probably only posting here now because of the way the Rules had been put into the place in the past, but to keep that level of regulation with a larger member base isn't practical or fair, especially considering how game and favourite threads like that play a part in almost any forum on the net anyway. But there are still controls in place to stop spammy threads where they aren't meant to be. Any thread in the Anime Lounge I've seen titled something like 'Sesshoumaru or Orochimaru?' gets closed because it isn't going to lead anywhere far, and there are other threads to discuss the anime already. It's up to the Moderator to judge whether the quality's bad enough to warrant a closure and/or warning. Besides, it usually isn't long before people get bored of threads like that anyway. There are only so many times and so many members that can post codes, favourite lists and any other inane information in threads like that. And for the most part, anyone whose post quality is too bad either gets banned pretty quickly or just leaves of their own accord. It's not doing that much harm.
-
Sandy, I know that I can [b]report[/b'] posts, but if there's two pages full of bad quality posts lacking punctuation, capital letters and any sign of content, I'm not going to report them all, kthxbai.
Or you could send a PM to the forum Mod expressing your concern.
I was trying to say that they beg for low quality repliers. And a whole lot of the replies are easy anyway and not a challenge at all, but seem to be just posted 'just to post in the thread'.
That's generally what I feel, but how many other threads are started just for posting's sake even with discussions you can actually talk about? Not every thread has to have a higher purpose to it other than just being to post in. Kinda defies the point of the Boards, otherwise :p I don't mind there being harmlessly fun, inane game threads- it's not as if I'm obliged to read them.
-
Personally, I don't think the post quality's degraded at all. I'll admit, I rarely participate in game threads because it feels like a cheap post. But you don't have to look very far for something intelligent and engaging. S'just one thread out of many, many more.

I've done a little of everything, heh ^_^; Generally when I create an RPG, I'll have a character that acts as a catalyst that helps develop the story, usually a villain that the participants are playing against. I'll play as my character and as the villain so that everyone else has something to fight against. I've never really known how well it's worked, but I feel more at home with controlling the storyline from there rather than leaving it more open-ended where it runs the risk of grinding to a halt if nobody can think or agree where to take the story next. I've created an RPG based on my own fictional set of stories where I've needed people to sign up as pre-created characters, and if people are interested then they'll pick up on them. If not, I've never objected to people creating their own.
I always play as my own character, it'd be pretty lame using someone else's creation.
I don't know; I quite like the idea of being given a character and then being told to play it. I get a little frustrated with myself that all my characters tend to end up fairly similar either in appearance or personality. Likewise, I wouldn't mind if the OP told me they wanted me to change something for whatever reason if it helped fit in with the game's canon. When it comes to signing up for other people's RPGs, I'm incredibly fussy over which I'll sign up to in the first place. If there's one aspect of the story or the conditions of the sign-up I'm not that keen on, I generally won't go for it. So I end up taking part in fairly similar RPGs, and tend to form pre-sets depending on the type of RPG it is I've gone for. I have certain traits that I'll always try and encorporate one way or another, but I won't play the same character in every single one. That'd be boring. I don't mind playing canon characters either, but if given the choice then I won't. Just because you've already seen them develop in a movie/series/book and I don't feel right trying to add more to that character. There isn't really anywhere you can take or develop them, and one thing I love doing is exploring a character and drawing them out through the course of the game.

One artist I do have problems keeping up with is Yashuhiro Nightow- the confusion over what was actually happening was what initially put me off Trigun maximum. I haven't had a problem with other manga. But I don't think it's fair to say that the stories, characters or overall structure is less sophisticated than novels. They're different mediums for story communication. I can understand books requiring more effort to read- manga you can be pretty lazy with, generally. But in terms of what you're meant to get out of it (for the most part, I would have said entertainment- it's probably true to an extent that manga can't contain so many subtexts), I personally don't have a preference.
-
Graphic novels is a term used in general for comic books published as books- it's not just manga that's coined the term. But you get some graphic novels that are far more 'sophisticated' than real ones. Have you read the original V for Vendetta, by any chance?
The level of immersion is just so poor in manga as compared to that of a book. I guess it might be because of the focus: in a book, you are focused on one word/line at a time, whereas in a manga, you are forced to distribute your focus.
What do you mean by 'immersion', out of interest? I find I tend to rattle through manga volumes pretty quickly, but that doesn't mean to say it's any more shallow than a book, and I still enjoy them as much as reading normal books. You'll spend longer reading books because there's that much more text to a page and whereas manga have the pictures to convey the action, books'll have to use paragraphs of text to achieve the same image. Of course, that naturally means you'll be spending much longer revealing a piece of action that takes a manga one or two frames to put across, and you use your own imagination to build 'hiden bits of that same picture'. But even then, that doesn't make manga soulless for having no written description. While 'BOOM' sound effects and various other examples of onomatopoeia look corny, they're an important part of comic-dom that add to the images. There are things manga can do that books can't. Somteimes it's easier to identify with emotion when you can really see it, as opposed to just reading about it. Manga can present dramatic angles- a well-drawn landscape tells you exactly what the artist wants you to know about the land the characters are in. It gives you a clear idea of the characters and their relationships. Manga isn't meant to be a piece of written text, though- it's more like anime, in the sense that you look at pictures rather than read about it. A better comparison to make may be the Fullmetal Alchemist novels and other books :p

Being one myself (a virgin, not a girl), it'd be nice to know someone with a little experience. You know, to help things along.
But I bet you every guy has a list of similar little things they dig about girlies lol.
I liked the subtleties you listed, heh ^_^ I think a lot of these are idiosyncrasies that you can't perhaps plan for, but things you start to notice and grow to like in someone after you've known them for a while.
They have to be curious. I think when girls ask questions it makes them seem a little naive or something. Definitely adds to that cuteness factor.
Yeah, I think so too. It's kind of hard to explain why without sounding either arrogant or derogatory... If I know something, it's sometimes nice to have someone to explain it to, or if nothing else to theorise with someone about why something is like it is. You know, a bit of mental exploration. And I love buying people presents, girls or otherwise ^_^
I guess that's good enough reason not to dislike Ridley. I think the only reason I'm hesitant towards him is he's much more realistic graphics-wise. But bearing in mind how well Nintendo have managed to make the characters from different franchises blend together in one game so well (I don't think twice about seeing Ganondorf againt Pikachu now, despite their incredibly different styles in their original games), and now that they've eliminated Game and Watch, I don't think any character will look too out of the ordinary.
