I edited the first post- I felt that the wrong impression was being given about the boy's situation, so I removed the bit about the tear from the end. And I'm nineteen ^_~ Here's the next bit, heh. Part 2: Memory's Curse The harsh wind continued to blow, rustling the leaves of the tall copse trees and sending the sound akin to rushing water rumbling through the air. The boy entered the circle of trees and sat himself down between two large woody roots, trying to shelter himself from as much of the wind as he could. He wrapped his jacket around him and opened his bag, searching for the food he'd prepared in secret beforehand. As he unwrapped the paper from its edges, memories of the last few weeks ebbed into his consciousness. He took a slow bite and rested his head against the tree supporting his weight... "Are you alright?" The boy looked round suddenly, snapping out of his thoughts. He gave a quizzical look to the girl standing opposite him, wrapped in a long brown scarf. She smiled; a warm smile- so friendly and welcoming the boy couldn't help but smile back. "Yes, I'm fine," he answered, a little grin reaching across his face. "Why do you ask?" The girl blushed. "Oh, I just thought you looked... I'm sorry, it doesn't matter." She turned to go, but a hand on her shoulder turned her back around. "No, it's alright. What were you going to say?" the boy urged gently, his eyes gleaming with curiosity. The girl blushed harder and carefully took his hand from her shoulder, sliding her fingers along his. The boy flinched slightly, but kept his gaze fixed firmly upon her. "Well, you just looked so deep in thought," the girl murmured happily. "I wondered if you might have been thinking about something serious." The boy scratched his head. "I guess you could say that. I have a lot to think about." The girl moved closer, her eyes transfixed on his. "Like what?" * * * The wind shook the windows of the weathered house. Forlornly a figure sat on her bed, watching the edge of the cliffs for any sign of a figure. Another walked into the room carrying a basket of laundry. "Aren't you going outside to meet him?" The girl sighed silently, wringing her hands. "No, mum. He... had to go." "Will he be back soon? It seems odd that he didn't say goodbye to us." "I don't know. I think he may be gone for a while." The girl fought back tears, it took every amount of strength she could summon to keep her voice from breaking. "Oh, that's a shame. He was such a nice boy. I do hope he'll return shortly." She left the room, leaving the girl to bury her face in her hands. As she sobbed quietly, she began to remember the first time she'd talked to him... "He must be new here." "I've never seen him before." "I love his hair!" "And his eyes! So lovely. I bet he's not staying, though." "Yeah, it's a shame nobody really pays attention to this village any more." Only one of the four girls remained silent, observing the boy standing in the middle of the square with an expression of deep thought on his face. She'd seen him a few days ago, walking along the road towards their village from the towns. Did he have family here? Perhaps he'd moved in a few weeks ago. Leaving the others to wander off towards the school, she continued watching him, taking in every segment of his stature, body and expression. He was... beautiful. But with this beauty was a deep sadness- his soulful eyes were wraught with loneliness and he clutched his bag so tightly it was as if it were a baby brother. Feeling her body alight with tension and excited anxiety, she walked towards him. Every step she took seemed like an eternity- although she desperately wanted to talk to him she would have been blissfully happy if this moment lasted forever, always in anticipation of reaching something so... * * * The boy wrapped his food back up in the paper. He didn't feel like eating any more. Lifting the collar of his jacket around his neck, he lay against the side of the tree and drifted off to sleep.

Anime Anime that need a sequel/continuation
Solo Tremaine replied to 5th Hokage's topic in Otaku Central
TrAcKa05, please try and inprove your post quality- it's incredibly difficult to understand what you're saying. Use proper spelling wherever you're able (the use of abbreviations and internet slang to excess are against the rules anyway), and adding a few full stops to break up your paragrahps would really help put across what you want to communicate. Thanks, heh. -
There is a Neon Genesis Evangelion thread here, where you can discuss everything to do with the series including the Director's Cut edition DVDs. Please be sure to check for existing threads before starting a new one. Thread closed.
You're a bastard....T_T I mean, it's STILL anime related, just because it doesn't interestes YOU, doesn't mean to delete it. You suck.
It's a thread on a forum. Why are you getting so personal about something that really doesn't matter anyway? I take great offense at you calling Dagger a bastard- she works incredibly hard to keep the Anime Forum free of spam and I don't think you appreciate the huge amount of decisions like this we have to make every day. These threads have been around since even before we were moderators, but because we've been around for some time we can judge well enough how they're going to turn out. They travel along exactly the same lines as "What is your favourite character" threads, which more often than not end up being closed in the end anyway because people don't put effort into their posts and simply use one-liners or just use it as an excuse to post poorly. Since the question itself is so simple it doesn't become a discussion- it becomes a series of posts unrelated to each other: boring and stagnant. Having looked at the thread in question, I noticed this:
Personally, I think it's Vegeta. His hair is crazy, lol!
Whilst there was more to this post and despite being the one who asked the question in the first place, this was all the member had to say on the to the topic. If someone posted that on its own as a new reply in the topic, it would count as spam because it's too short. A whole topic like that would generate dozens of these and it simply isn't worth having around for people to spam in. Besides, how exactly can you go into vast detail about how crazy an anime hairstyle is? I fully support Dagger's decision, and if you do have a personal problem with something like this it's more polite and sensible to PM the person involved rather than publicly flame them. I know it's what I would appreciate. Not to mention flaming is against the Rules anyway and could make you liable to have your account banned. Then you wouldn't be able to post in any threads at all, about anime hair or otherwise.
One word (or is it three?) Yu-Gi-Oh! My experience with that show was, like, ten minutes, and then I immediately changed channels.
In my mind, ten minutes does not constitute a proper experience, especially with such a long-running series. I absolutely hated Digimon when I first saw it but when I actually bothered to pay attention it wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it was, and it ended up becoming one of my favourite programmes. I'm not saying your opinion isn't valid- 4Kids have certainly carved up YGO a good one- but ten minutes is barely even half an episode. If I based all of my anime opinions on that much time I'd probably hate everything; even series like Trigun and RahXephon have their bad parts (or certainly parts that I prefer to skip through). Anyway, I'd have to agree that Flint the Time Detective is one of the worst animes I've ever seen. The whole premise is incredibly childish and it looks worse than even the Dragonball serii. The episodes have no variety and the characters are disgustingly one-dimensional. Not nice. Shin Chan is another of my most hated. I just don't like the idea and the writing disturbs me. Not to mention I can't stand watching anything in that animation style for more than ten seconds anyway. Yuk.

I've given this thread one warning already- if people won't pay attention then I'll be forced to close it. Personally since I've seen this so many times already I'm inclined to do so now, but I know people can do better than this. kidotaku, please put more thought and detail into your posts. It's too short and the quality really isn't very good. Posts that are just lists and add nothing to the value of a thread are spam and will be deleted as such in the future. Discuss Anime Stereotype High School Underground [PG-VSL]
Solo Tremaine replied to Solo Tremaine's topic in Theater
It's based on a class system we had in our Sixth Form, heh- sometimes you'd have one single lesson that extended over two periods: so everyone who does Villain Ethics has to attend both, as they're both the same extended class. That's the same for any double-period on the timetable. As you can imagine, some subjects really need this kind of length in order to get any work done, especially those which have a large practical or complicated basis. And considering the students, things get much more hectic, heh ^_~ -
Unless there's some reasoning put into the lists posted in these threads, I'll close it as spam. Like this it's not giving any kind of interesting discussion- it's just list after list. There's already a favourite anime movie thread open, so please be careful it doesn't fall into exactly the same thing. Give reasons for your choices and I'll keep it open. Favourites threads are always on sticky ground so you have to take care to make sure they're worth keeping up.

Welcome to the Boards, OutlawStarFan. Unfortunately introduction/advertising threads are against the site Rules (the link to which is in the side-bar menu on the left, heh), so I'm going to have to close the thread. If you want people to visit your site, you're welcome to put a link in your Signature. If you have any questions, please check the FAQ and Rules pages or PM a Moderator of your choice ^_~ Thread closed.

Yes, I know. I'm not going to push anyone if they're unable to post for a while. Ultimately I just need to know if there's anything I can do in the mean time to be making things run smoother/more quickly, so that when people can post the whole thing can move at a better pace. If anyone feels they want to drop out, it'd be nice to know that too. PMs are fine. With regards to the classes- the length and times of each of the lessons are in the timetable at the beginning of this thread. Each block is 50 minutes, and some are in double blocks (Mech Combat has three to itself all in one group). What I'll do is make a list of which characters are in which classes so people know who they have to interact with, and I'll try and give a brief summary of what the various subjects involve. But other than that I'm not fussy about what the classes are about. Feel free to be as inventive as you like, heh. I'll step in if it's drastically unsuitable, but it's not crucial. -
Sept 7th, 8:36am Sabre had enjoyed his breakfast. If he cared to admit it, Soushi was a pretty good cook- he was almost grateful to be living opposite, except the thought of further intrusions worried him slightly. As he sat picking bits of food from his teeth, contemplating the various things he had on his mind, there was a loud, incredibly intrusive knock on his door. Leaping to his feet with the utmost irritation, he ripped the door open... and froze. It was her. Dumbfounded, he stared at her for a few seconds, then felt something incredibly large wrap itself around his nck and a blazing noise in his ears. "PUPPY!" she screamed, nearly shaking his eardrums out of his ears. He clenched his fists and collected up the calmest, most relxing images he could think of to try and stop himself from tearing the mad girl to pieces. "Ugh... the name's Sabre." The girl smiled widely, her grip unrelenting. "I know, but Puppy is so CUTE!" Sabre almost wretched. "I am not cute." Susuki gave him a sly smile. "Oh, I think you are. Cutie Mr Puppy!" "Was there a point to this... visit?" Sabre said with as much revulsion as he could muster. He wasn't against people coming to visit him, but if they did it had to be on his terms. Unless they came bearing Love/Hate merchandise, of course. Then he was theirs. But he made special exception to Susuki, who he was sure had been stalking him ever since she arrived at the Tokyo Academy. If you ignored her brash, loud and incredibly bubbly personality, she was braeable. But her brash, loud and bubbly personality was her. He did find it quite flattering that she took time out of her schedule to follow him around, though... Susuki shook her head madly, still grinning from ear to ear. "Do I need a reason, Pups? But I do have to go now. Classes in thirty-five minutes!" Squeezing the last few ounces of breath from Sabre's body, she catapuled herself from him and disappeared down the stairs, giggling. Sabre shook himself, grabbed his satchel from the sofa and slamed the door shut, pretending he didn't notice that Soushi had been watching the entire time. * * * 9.02am Sabre strolled casually down the crowded hallways of the Academy, pleased that he was one of the tallest students in the school. It gave him a much greater vantage point to escape rampaging mechs. Unfortunately, it made him a much greater target for teachers. Thankfully, he'd managed to sneak past Ooguchi whilst the lech sifted through the women's lost property boxes. He'd also managed to avoid Susuki so far- she probably had lessons in the afternoon, though. As he rounded the corner to his Villain Ethics class, he noticed a sign on the wall: STUDENT REPRESENTATIVES WANTED- SEE VICE-PRINCIPAL FOR DETAILS Dismissing it with his usual derisive snort, he wandered into the classroom. Already waiting were a few nervous-looking students; opposite them was the lecturer- Principal Gondo Okari. He gave Sabre a look of no particular emotion, and gestured for him to sit, which he did. "Thirteen minutes early, Sabre? That's unlike you for a Monday morning." Sabre adjusted the translaor device on his neck- it was beginning to get hot. "*tweek* I want to *growl* this class, *snort*." "Right... yes." Sabre grinned. He loved being so blatantly rude.

Flare held his shield and sword ready as the two remaining Skull Knights approached. From the left, the third blundered torwards its percieved enamies, whirling its lethal sword through the air in an attempt to hit something. Change of Heart was powerful magic, but without proper control, it left the victim with little physical abilities of its own. Flare braced himself as one of the SKull Knights threw a punch in his direction- it slammed into the black shield, driving Flare into the damp grass. The metal creaked- sparks flew in all directions. The second Knight was immediately behind and was about to take his sword to Flare's legs when the warrior's unwilling ally careened into the fiendish figure, bashing him aside. The Skull Knight let out a howl of fury and lunged back- whilst the third was distracted by their struggle, Flare deftly rolled away and re-poised himself to attack. He leapt forwards, the red blade of his sword glinting blood red in the dim light. It struck home, embeding itself between the Skull Knight's shoulder blades. It shrieked in agony and burst into wild convulsions, knocking Flare to the ground, minus his enchanted weapon, still stcking out of the dark creature's flesh. Having beheaded the incapacitated Skull Knight, the remaining creature licked the oozing dark liquid from his lips and gave Flare a murderous stare. It grunted, grinned wickedly and began its charge forwards, sword held out like a lance, aiming directly for Flare's head. Flare picked himself up and sprinted acoss the forest clearing, dodging past the rampaging creature and skidding to a halt near the dead SKull Knight. Its redundant weapon lay on the ground, bent by its aggressor. The second SKull Knight, with Flare's blade slowly tearing through its body, dropped to the ground, gasping for breath. Flare picked up the unbalanced sword as best he could and held it in front of him. Feeling the muscles in his arm start to strain with the weight of holding it, he dropped his shield and took it into his second as well. His defences were lowered, but until he ensured that Sage was safe he would fight with everything he could. "Insidious fool!" The Skull Knight wretched. "You dare take hold of a Skull Knight's blade? I'll destroy you for that!" Flare held the sword by his side, gripping it as tightly as he could with both hands. "Try it."

*brushes dust off* I don't wish to sound rude, but I'm a little concerned by the lack of posts the RPG's had. Is there a particular issue that people are having problems with? I understand school's just come back in and there are various other factors that come into play, personal or practical (heck, even I haven't been posting myself of late- if that's a concern then I can't apologise enough, heh ^_^; ) and I do understand, but I'd have thought there'd be a tad more activity, especially considering the amount of people accepted. If there's a big problem I'd rather know what it was o_o; I'm also open to any suggestions as to how to make things flow more quickly. It's not the kind of thing that really needs a turn-based system, but if you want there to be a shorter time-frame that the RPG takes place in (say, a term rather than a year), then that's fine too. Just say. Please ^_^; -
If you took a few seconds to take a look through our Official Threads Directory, you'd see that there are threads for loads of animes. What's on the first page doesn't even cover the topics that have been talked about in the last week, let alone in the entire forum. It only takes a quick search. Besides, if you don't see a thread about an anime you like then you can always start a new one, providing one doesn't already exist. Please be careful of your spelling, too. It's quite hard to understand what you're saying, and poor-quality posts are against the rules. Thread closed- if you have any further questions, consult the Rules and FAQ pages, then feel free to PM a Moderator if you still have a concern.
Could you consider Big O as a anime? The title screen intro shows it in Japanese bit the artwork is so similar to Batman its pathetic.
I'd hardly call it pathetic- it's called variety. It's not as if all US animations look the same. They have similar generic qualities, but something like Justice League is very different to Static Shock or Ozzy and Drix. Similarly, Neon Genesis Evangelion is incredibly different to Shin Chan. You can't even compare the two, they're so different. If they all looked the same they'd just get boring. And besides, there are bits of Big O that have far more detail than a lot of the Batman episodes I've seen. When Roger's driving the car, for instance- the reflections on that are more akin to Outlaw Star than Batman. I still consider it anime, but I won't go into the many reasons why. It's all convoluted, and most of it's covered in the 'Can you really call it anime when...' thread. I love the Big O soundtrack, by the way. It's one of the few ones where I don't skip any tracks (besides the opening theme... it annoys me pretty quickly, heh). Lovely stuff.

Anime Dating Anime Characters: Would You?
Solo Tremaine replied to ChibiHorsewoman's topic in Otaku Central
personally i would'nt date anyone from an anime/manga cuz it would never happen, but if you believe it will happen to you then i have nothing aganist you
Welcome to OtakuBoards, friday 13. Please be aware that posts like this are considered spam under OB Rules- be sure to add as much detail as you can and use proper spelling/punctuation where possible.
Also, what IS it with those shows that MAKES them so different? I can't put my finger on it, but you can tell that they are so fake. It's like looking at an apple sitting beside a plastic apple. Basically they LOOK the same, but obviously there IS a difference, however subtle it is.[/size']
I've noticed this too, and I think it's probably down to what Manic said earlier:
Also, Japanese animation uses less frames-per-second than Western animation.
Whether the expressions are exactly the same or not, the amount of frames per second will make them appear slightly different. I guess the way animes like Teen Titans try to combat this is by having the expression changes very quick in the same way they do in most traditional anime. But even then, it won't look quite the same because the execution of the timing isn't proportionally right. Another reason might be down to the direction of the programme itself- where something that takes the most noticeable elements of anime still might not be anime, the said elements might be slightly out of context with the animation itself. It's almost like cutting out Uma Therman's head form a magazine picture and trying to stick it on another picture of Uma Therman. Whilst they're both essentially the same, they don't quite fit the jigsaw. It's an odd subtlety to try and define, but I know what you mean. That's my take on it, heh.

It's been my plan ever since the post before the one I made yesterday to try and resurrect this RPG, and really I need to know who's still interested in participating so that it can be done, dusted and finished. I know Blanko's still away, so her character will either have to be carried along or dropped for the time being. With regards to everyone else: Gatomon and Fladramon (Lady Katana and myself) are searching the tunnels for survivors, and are just about to come across Deciperemon (Ben), who has been quite badly injured after his altercation with the WereGarurumon. Andromon (StrikeGundam) is running around the human/digimon outpost somewhere, having aided Deciperemon in his battle against the Garu Squad. Bolt and Azufe (Wondershot and Takuya) are somewhere around or outside the tunnel system with Tera and Kira (Blanko and Ouka), who are making their way inside. Chronomon and Tycho (Circeus) are still climbing around the destroyed bridge. If I've gotten anything wrong, feel free to correct me. I'd just like to get this up and running again, if nobody minds. NPC Info: Imahori is about to try and destroy the military compound where the rest of the Data Hunters were being held, in an attempt to restore peace by killing the maniacal Naraku. Naraku is building up a force to annihilate the Digimon, along with his Messiah Project- a huge digital cannon capable of destroying everything digital within a 2-mlie redius. The Garu Squad (a breakaway group from the main digimon/human resistance centre that help with security headed by an eccentric Garudamon) are all unconscious. Thanatomon is still relatvely dormant, but is sending a signal through his body amalgamated with the Digital World computer (ENIAC) parts for digimon to retrieve the armour that used to be its outer shell and any remaining bits of the inner circuitry so that he can start reformatting the world. Also under the ground in the human/digimon base is part of ENIAC's armour. Any questions or comments about the RPG should go here. Thanks.
So anime means "Japanese animation". Anything done in America, regardless of quality and style, isn't anime. And that's fine.
Don't forget that not all 'American' animations are drawn in America- many are drawn in Korea (Invader ZIM and Futurama, for example). Does that make them Korean animations? No, because they're licensed, produced and comissioned by an American company with American writers for an American audience. In the credits to many US animations I've seen loads of Japanese names, even in some Disney films. If something was animated entirely by Japanese artists, would that be anime? The country it's animated in might not be Japan, but if there's a whole Japanese team working on it, it's about as near as dammit as you can get. It's not as clear-cut as you might think.

Since direct linking to commercial sites is against OtakuBoards rules, there isn't any further this thread can go. But the DVD is pretty much in every self-respecting internet DVD shop that specialises in anime, and I'd be very surprised if you couldn't find it in a video store that has a large-ish anime section. It only takes a brief search. Thread closed.

Lord Naraku, please try and add more substance to your posts. This really isn't sufficient, especially when starting a thread about a specific series- you need details, even a brief plot summary would be useful. I suggest you take a look at the Rules before posting again. The only reason I'm keeping this thread open is because nobody else has started one about this particular series. Please be more careful.

Fladramon and Gatomon carefully made their way through the crippled tunnels around the epicentre of the explosion, trying to avoid areas that looked like they could be ready to collapse. Wounded humans and digimon crawled through clouds of dust, covered in blood and carrying anyone else they were able to. "This looks bad..." Fladramon muttered, stepping over a mass he couldn't quite make out in the darkness. Up ahead, he could hear voices calling for help. Although Gatomon didn't have much interest in helping the humans, she couldn't help but feel her stomach turning at the sounds of the tose still trapped within the cave's walls or half-buried underneath rubble. She swallowed hard and continued moving, keeping in close proximity to Fladramon. They passed a human holding a small Koromon in their arms, coughing and spluttering. "There's no way through- the passages have all fallen in," he gasped, his voice hoarse from dust-caked injuries. The Koromon was breathing erratically. Fladramon looked at the tiny Digimon, then at the human, who looked ready to collapse any minute. "Get yourself out of here. We'll get through." Gatomon looked sceptical that they could actually breach the rocky barricade ahead of them, but did her best to try and find an entrance. She leapt up the landslide of rocks so quickly she almost flew. When she reached the peak she cocked her ears- she could hear air whistling through a gap in the stones, and behind it was another voice calling- this one oddly amiliar, but distorted by the accoustics of the tunnels. She began punching the rocks free, hurling them down in Fladramon's direction. "Hey, watch it!" he yelled. "I'm clearing a way through! There's someone in here," she called back, not stopping. Behind her,she heard Fladramon clumsily making his way up the rocks, knocking bigger boulders rolling down the corridor. "Stop, idiot! You'll send it all-" Before she could answer, the landslide collapsed further, sending the two of them rolling along the falling rocks into the corridor behind them. Righting herself, Gatomon looked back at the way she'd been clearing. Ironically, it was free enough for even Fladramon to fit through. "You're lucky you didn't make it worse," she hissed, bounding ahead. Fladramon scowled, picked himself up and chased after her. * * * The metal corridors were enshrouded with an eerie darkness, one that not even the dim light bulbs attached to the ceiling could penetrate. A figure hurried through the pitch blackness, panic ripping out of him with each breath. Ahead, he could see a huge metal blast door- his final destination. When he reached the keypad on the wall, he punched in the numbers, his hands shaking with apprehension. A siren wailed and the door rumbled open. He crawled inside and looked around. Locked behind a series of metal gates was the key to the salvation of the world. Wiping the sweat from his forehead, Imahori took his pistol and shot the locks from the gates. Inside, he saw the crate full of high-density detonation packs. With one final look over his shoulder, he picked up as many as he could and ran into the darkness...
