1.
I suppose I could Hugo, but if I was to wait for the episodes to be released on the basis watching them fan-subbed is unlicensed/illegal, I might as well stop reading fan-translations of the manga as well for the same reason. Besides, this goes beyond the scope of what the OP was asking, I simply gave an opinion on the current seasons of Bleach and Naruto, Dattebayo's biggest series based on their threat to stop fan-subbing.
This is true. I didn't mean to sound unnecessarily bitchy, sorry about that. I don't know of any other Naruto fansubbers offhand. Considering Dattebayo's widespread reputation, I'd be surprised if anyone else had tackled Naruto since. Although there was a group before them which did really good fansubs, when I used to watch them. I have a feeling they disappeared, though. It wouldn't surprise me if this was a troll, though. They seem to enjoy having regular hissy fits to put the wind up people. Which, considering they ask people not to distribute (which is ironically rather hypocritical of them), is probably justified.
The problem is, I'm a very impatient person. I want to see them asap, and I don't feel like waiting for Cartoon Network to get their hands on them and roll them out one at a time from the beginning one episode a week.
Don't get me wrong, I'd love to be able to see an entire series of something at once. But you still have to wait every week for the episodes to be released on download anyway, so how different is it, really? :P I feel I have to fight this corner at least a little considering I want to work in the creative industry (writing, acting, etc). I'd be livid if my work was being illegally distributed. But you have to resign yourself to knowing that it's virtually impossible to have a leak-free production line.
  2.
As for getting action and major plot revelations every week, I don't think anyone is asking for that, what most of us simply want is to be able to come back here and say that yes, the latest chapter actually had decent plot to it and was most importantly worth reading. It doesn't have to be earth-shattering, just well written, hell I'd even take a couple of crap chapters every once in a while if the overall stuff was good.
Yeah, that's fair enough. The problem with something like Naruto is that the plot is separated into rather isolated patches, with different lines moving at different paces the whole time. The only time in the entire series since Zabuza where everything's been focused on one thread alone was when Sasuke was being taken by Orochimaru's Sound Four, more or less. Now, with Naruto very much in a 'Oh bugger, I need to spend months training again' state and Sasuke in a 'OMGZ LOLOLO I GOTS MAGENKYO CAN I HAS KONOHA PLZ' state, it's definitely becoming unbalanced. I guess I want Naruto to hurry up and beat the crap out of Sasuke's arse. I'm glad to see he's actually being given the chance to improve again now. Kakashi being relegated to a secondary character isn't really fair either, considering how much he's done for the series with relatively little character development overall. I really want to see more of him. I'm disappointed they showed comparatively little of Naruto's anguish over Jiraiya, too.
  3.
Personally with Bleach and Naruto in filler-hell at the moment, DB could stop subbing and it wouldn't bother me one bit, plus for those of us who can't use torrents for various reasons, streaming sites are the only way we can watch the eps.
Or you could, you know, wait for the official, licensed episodes to be released like I've resigned myself to doing because I don't like illegal downloads or watching anime on the computer, especially via streaming sites. Or buy the Japanese DVDs if you're incredibly desperate. The manga comes out often enough for me to get the canon story fix.
  4. Methinks this chapter is a little overshadowed by the irritation that has come before. You can't have action and/or major plot revelations in every weekly edition. Frankly I'm glad to see the series' title character actually doing something.
  5. My sister saw John Cleese last week outside Chichester train station. There's a massive motorsport event that goes on every year at Goodwood race track (called the Festival of Speed) that hundreds of celebrities go to. One year a friend of mine working there as a waitress met and served George Lucas. I worked as an actor this year and saw nobody >.>; I did last year too, and also saw nobody. But, at the other motorsport event, a vintage one themed around the 1960's, I was acting at a party and was told to 'avoid' people like Rowan Atkinson, Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond, James May, Damon Hill, Rolf Harris (I think...). I managed to stand pretty close to them when mingling in character, hehe. Some years back I saw Pete Postlethwaite on Chichester train station. At the time he was in a drama called 'The Sins', or something like that, so some idiots were shouting that at him from across the platform. He was being a little silly, mind: it was the grip of summer and he was wearing a massive long brown overcoat, a red scarf and a flat cap. Not exactly inconspicuous when it's about 20 Celcius. I've met a couple of anime voice actors at conventions; most notably I had a long conversation with Dan Woren after being introduced to him by Panda at Anime Expo '06, which was amazing. He's really cool. Oh, I was also on the same acting course as Robbie Jarvis, who played young James Potter in the film of Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix.

    Wanted
Sounds like I'll have an advantage when seeing this since I've never read the comic so I won't have any expectations of what should be in the movie.
I hadn't read the comic but it didn't help me any, heh. I found the whole thing rather... frivolous. I could enjoy some of the set pieces, but the entire ethos of the film was messy. So you're supposed to take controlf of your destiny
by taking orders from a loom? And then rebelling against people who kill by... killing them? That last line was absolutely apalling, as well. It left a disgusting taste in my mouth along the lines of 'you can only be someone important and cool if you have a big-*** gun'.
A lot of the gore was unrealistic and unnecessary (yes, I know it's a comic book, and having
Morgan Freeman swear for the hell of it
was a rather blatant way to get a cheap laugh out of the intended audience. Having said that, the overall structure of the story was quite interesting, and one or two of the plot twists were nicely done. The most satisfying bit was when he
has that massive rant in the office, because it showed he had a degree of intelligence, which seemed to diminish over the rest of the film
.
  7. You just know it's building up to that chapter where Naruto wakes up the day after his graduation, to find out IT WAS ALL JUST A DREAM.
  8. Lots of Fire Emblem Characters. It's a game, but lots of cloaks and polearms. This is a guy and the cloak isn't right, but all the FE characters are in this style, and there are many variations on girls with polearms and cloaks; just a case of trawling through the hundreds of characters to find the one that fits exactly. A better example (his name's Soren). No polearm, though. Polearms aren't used in anime much, unfortunately. It's quite hard to find a good example. And there seem to be fewer cloaks than I remember. I would suggest Saki Hanajima from Fruits Basket, but I don't think she's your thing, Rai.
  9. Hello ^_^ I've no idea to be perfectly honest ^_^; I was just playing 'With Anyone' today and it was choppy enough; I've no idea where everyone was from. There's just... this delay in putting in your controls to what actually comes on screen, so I always find myself moving too far one way or another; by the time I've tried to correct it I've been attacked. Also, some people are really cheap, but that's not a bandwidth issue :p Spectating was fine- no lag whatsoever. But I couldn't get any Team Brawls going. I'd only ever be able to find one other person to play with, so we'd be sat in the Practice Stage for ages and then they'd eventually quit.
  10. I've finally got my Smash Bros. Brawl online, so my friend code for that is thus: 0173-2928-6044. I'll come up as SOLO. I also have an XBox Live account, but I don't remember what it is.
  11. "Touch down where?"
  12.
Yeah, I was kidding. I'm just pretty much acting like a moron for no particular reason, though the Iruka example is slightly flawed since he's a little more of a big brother/father figure, whereas Zabuza was basically Haku's reason for living.
I know. Likewise, I was pulling an example that people would object to, even though because of the series' own logic of emotions, neither couple works :p But yeah, Orochimaru is really dodgy. "I want the bodies of little boys!" Hmm...
  13.
Then, there was in Fullmetal Alchemist. I was quite shocked and saddened at the death of
Maes Hughes
. It caught me by surprise because I was expecting him to be one of the characters that will remain alive at the end of the series. Prior to his death, he was starting to become my favorite character in the show. That's why I was so distraught when he suddenly died. Even heartbreaking for me was seeing the funeral.
Yeah, definitely. Even though I knew what was happening before (Oh, the joys of being an anime forum Moderator and having to place spoiler tags in people's posts >.>; ), it still shocked and gripped me. He was such a great character, and one I really identified with a lot.
When his daughter was crying at the funeral, and Roy's tears as well... it was almost too much.
That's the one that always, always strikes home when I watch it. In One Piece, one of the few times I did actually, properly cry was when
Dr Hiruluk died during Chopper's flashback sequence. I don't know why, but seeing Chopper wave his pirate flag next to his charred hat, screaming at the top of his voice was heartbreaking.
And similarly, when
The Going Merry was destroyed and spoke to the rest of the Straw Hats about how much it enjoyed being with them and how it wanted to always stay with them, that was so, so sad.
With Death Note I was more shocked by the entire series :p It gripped me by the throat and never really let go (even though it got a bit boring just after
L dies.
I was more angered than saddened by that, I think. I liked
L - he was a stronger character than Light, I think
, so to see him go it felt like something had gone very wrong in the way it was written. Which is the effect it's meant to have, I suppose. So it definitely works, heh. In Trigun,
Wolfwood's death
was one of the hardest to take. He barely said anything about his appreciation for the others, but that monologue he has at the end is one of my favourite ever scenes. i should watch it again sometime... Oh, RahXephon! When
Hiroko ran away with Ayato, and he started attacking that Dolem that had possessed her... that was terrible to watch. Especially as she was telling him she loved him in lights across the city as he unknowingly shredded her to pieces.

  14.
It doesn't count if the pairing is canon. *shot*
*counterattack* The pairing is not canon; people are far too quick to place stigma on any kind of personal interaction. Do you fancy everyone you talk to? No. With that same logic you can argue that Iruka blatantly fancies Naruto. Gai and Lee are more of a couple than those two anyway :p [I'm in two minds about whether or not I mind what people think about this. On one hand, it's cool that characters are giving people scope to imagine more about their lives, but when it's something like that everything just turns unnecessary and somehow degrades the character. What happened to innocence and platonic kindredness? Perfect example:
Dumbledore/Harry. Why J.K felt he needed to be gay still mystifies me
]
  15. Tenten did have that three-second match against Temari during the Chuunin Exam saga. It was more or less 'Look Tenten's fighting next oh she's unconscious', though. Although given how underdeveloped her character actually is, it'd be hard to make her interesting at this point. Missed opportunity, mayhaps? Hinata has room for some great stories, I think. But the problem with having exactly the same abilities as Neji and with him already with some major fights under his belt, there's little she can do without it being just another Byakugan fight, albeit with different motives fuelling the drive of the character. It was in the Bleach thread there was the discussion about poor showings for female characters, wasn't it? I can't remember, heh.
That arc was ruined for me due to the anime counterpart. (Believe it)
Oh, I really liked the way it was done in the anime. I watched the Japanese dub, though.
  16. The Zabuza/Haku bit is probably my favourite arc in Naruto. I haven't actually seen or read any of Shippuden yet (I've just looked at spoilers, kekeke), so I don't know how the rest really compares. I'm just disappointed that the rest of the 'Rookie Nine' have done absolutely nothing since their epic battles upon trying to rescue Sasukemo Uchigodmod. I'm glad Shikamaru got a fantastic story, but Hinata barely did anything even in the first story arc. I'd like to see her being put at the forefront a bit more.
  17. Optimus Prime. Indiana Jones. Darth Vader. Duffman. Zim and GIR, from Invader ZIM. Also, Gordon Freeman from the Half-Life series. But he can't say ANYTHING.
  18.
Also, anyone else notice how most of the guys in this series are either gay or perverts? Notable examples: -Haku and Zabuza. Sure, this was kind of obvious, but it's fun to note how one of the coolest characters let a young, incredibly feminine looking boy travel with him for the sole purpose of being able to take advantage of the special things Haku can do with his body.
 You've ruined the noble tragedy of Haku and Zabuza forever. I hope you're happy. But Neji is blatantly so uptight because he doesn't want anyone to realise HE'S SEEN THEM ALL NAKED.
  19.
Yep. All the Bleach goers are gone, supposedly. Maybe we chased the other folk away?
This and the Naruto manga thread are practically the only reasons I visit OB any more, sadly. I'd much rather come here to find decent, organised spoilers with intelligent discussion than wad through the hideous amounts of fake spoilers that get posted in the run-up to each chapters' release. It's nice to finally know why Urahara was exiled, though. I don't suppose we know Yoruichi's reasons for following, aside from close personal attachment, perhaps?
  20. I's also showing in London for the next month or so, in the Institute of Contemporary Arts. They'll be screening all three Death Note movies eventually. The movie's pretty good. I'll admit though, some of the camera shots traditionally used in Japanese live action always make me baulk slightly, and can really ruin the dramatic tension of some scenes. It was well-constructed though, and Ryuk and L were considerably well done.
  21. I only have a tiny section of it.
  22. Title: Font Wars - The Boldening [PG - LV] Genre: War/Electronica Setting: Inside a computer Summary: The Times New Roman Empire has reigned for too long. Centuries, in fact. Its rule is despotic; although it claims to turn vast areas of blank space into a utopia, the people hampered by the uniforms pressed upon them have to uphold the rigid form of the Times New Roman law. But there is something even more sinister behind its leader, Arial, as important figures of society, known as Numbers and Letters, start disappearing... A brave band of underground fonts, called the TrueTypes, aim to infiltrate this cruel regieme and discover its secrets, hoping to topple its cruelty once and for all, before a terrible event deletes them and their world forever.
  23. This is possibly one of the weirdest things I've seen on YouTube. The lyrics are thus: Teacher! 25. Those three are the best cel-shaded movies, in my opinion. The second 02 movie was nothing special, and neither was the first Tamers movie (although it does explain where Takato's cousin from Okinawa fits in).
