For games... I've not played that many, but I liked the Lylat Wars soundtrack enough to buy that, and Starfox Adventures had some nice tunes in it, too. A nice variety of different melodies and styles. Apart from that... Phantasy Star Online Episode I and II has good music, especially the Ruins and Boss themes, and the music that comes on whenever a mission had a sad ending. For animes... I'd probably have to say that Evangelion is the best I've heard, but Zoids is my favourite. Eva has a massive variety of different styles (classical, electric guitars, songs, just percussion pieces)- its diversity is fantastic. There's so much emotion in those. Having said that, the background music to the Pokemon series and movies is surprisingly good quality- it sounds very good. Zoids is something I like, because it's lots of electric guitars and synthesisers- very active stuff there. I like that kind of thing. Transformers: The Movie has a similar sound, but it's a little more tinny and there's not so much variation in the themes. Still another one I like, though. It's hard to beat classics.

My Blog: www.solotremaine.blogspot.com Blog Name: Solo's Blog Reasons/Thoughts: I guess mine first started when I saw everyone else's. I used to have one on Bolt, but it fell through because I didn't have that much to talk about and didn't have enough free time to write anything in it. I'm not too sure why I write in it, really. I think it's just a nice place to put thoughts down that you might not have had a chance to discuss. I admit, it can come to a point where you start writing more for other people rather than yourself, but it can be easy enough not to do that once you've spotted yourself doing it. I did for a while, but then managed to stop. They are personal things. My blog's name isn't as interesting as a lot of other people's, but it doesn't bother me that much as I don't really think it needs to be called anything else. I know other names sound good and can be thought-provoking and interesting, but I just didn't want that, really. Most blogs are just innane ranting I think, but it's good to get these thoughts out. Of course, I do my best not to offend people who may be reading it, but if you have a problem with them it's probably best to say anyway (albeit possibly more discreetly, by PM or something). But you can't expect people not to read it if you put it up. So in a way they're meant for other people to read. I'd hoped that people'd be able to get to know me better through reading the Blog (assuming they did)- sometimes I don't get to talk to people as much as I'd like to, and it's a nice chance to let people know how you're doing. I try not to be depressing too much of the time in my blog. Reading rant after rant can get a little oppressive ^_^;

Lupaemon had waited long enough. "Come on." he said, grabbing Kaede and hauling her onto his shoulder. "Hey, put me down!" she said, slarmed by the sudden movement. "You're coming out of here with me whether you like it or not. Now trust me and let's go!" he said firmly, holding her tightly. "Well, at least carry me in a more dignified way!" she snarled, hitting his back. She hated looking undugnified, even if there wasn't anyone else to see.

Valkyrion pondered this for a while. "We only have one piece of Exodia. A dark soul on it's own shouldn't be enough to control all of him." He paced around, deep in thought. "Having all of the parts at the same time is only the key to unlocking his soul. The body is sealed by magic within the slabs themselves. It may be possible to release him by other means, but how is another question." Silistra rested on her staff. "Perhaps we should just unleash the Dark Hole." Everyone turned round to her, stunned. "The Dark Hole's ridiculously powerful. It could destroy the whole Light Realm!" Mared gaped. "But, theoretically, it could destroy the while Dark Realm, too." she protested. "The world can't exist without a balance. Even if we destroyed every last Dark monster on the planet the realm would still exist, and they would return. It's just too powerful." Faith explained, idly twirling her staff around. "We have to think of something to do." Neo folded his arms, watching Rydia fiddle with her bow. Mared flicked through some pages in the Registry book. "There is a powerful magic which may be able to help us- the Change of Heart. If we could use it properly, we may be able to change Dark Necrofear's alignment." "What would that achieve?" Chaos asked. "Dark Necrofear was summoned to take control of Exodia- when in Spirit form, she can possess any monster she wishes. At least if she were on our side she'd possess Exodia for us rather than them." "Are you sure that's how it works? Surely she'd still be an element of the Dark Realm?" Melody asked, holding Feyd and Kuriboh in her arms. "Well..." Mared wasn't too sure. It was an ancient spell, one that had not been practiced in centuries. "Wouldn't it just take control back of the monster which had been possessed?" Valkyrion suggested, pulling a Millennium Shield from the wall and admiring himself in the mirror with it. Mared shrugged. "I've no idea. Perhaps it would allow Exodia to let someone else inside him to do battle with Dark Necrofear." "How many people are there left who can practice the Change of Heart magic?" Valkyrion asked. "Only one." "And they are?" Silistra asked. Mared turned to Melody.

I think anime fans may be more likely to have a different perception on various things, in the same way that the animation often presents a different view about things it represents in the animation. That's not to say anime fans and non-anime fans are completely different in points of view, it's just that anime takes a while to get into, so if anything it's more a matter of taste. What is close-minded is seeing something like DBZ and then judging all anime to be like that. And the same with judging US animation by Samurai Jack. Things like Spawn are as adult as any more intense anime series, perhaps even moreso. Most of the people I know around here don't want to get into anime just because, and that's being close-minded also, but I don't think it's as a direct consequence of not watching anime per se. As has been said already, open-mindedness depends on your personality as an individual rather than what you do or don't do.
Originally posted by Ohkami I'll change my character because it isn't well known.
*dies* Fox McCloud... I'll have him then, if you don't mind. Character: Fox McCloud (Starfox/Starwing for SNES) Reason for choosing character: I've had an obsession with foxes and spaceships since I was very small, and Starwing (as it was known in the UK then) was the first game I actually properly dreamed of having. That dream was reborn with Starfox 64, and he's been one of my favourite characters ever since. His heroism and style are something I admire ^_^ Knowledge of character: He's flown an Arwing in almost every game he's been in, is an anthropomorphic fox and is generally a hero. His latest run was Starfox Adventures, his most atractive incarnation yet, I think. Ths series storyline is pretty basic, but I know all of his team-mates and arch enemies, and even what colour his scarf is. I also know bits about his personal history according to Nintendo Power comics, but I don't like those much.

Original sign-up: Master of Reptilian Digimons Name: Ryouka Gender: Male Age: 16 Appearance: Ryouka is fairly tall for his age, and has long bright red and orange hair which drapes down in thick spikes. He wears a long black trenchcoat and black jeans, along with a red T-shirt and silver sword-shaped pendant. He has a large scar over his left eye. Bio: Having recently moved to the area, Ryouka doesn't feel much and home and stays out for as long as possible. More than anything he wants adventure and excitement, but has been forced to attend school. Through his irritation, he sometimes releases his agressions on other students, which has landed him in serious trouble before. After one particularly bad fight in which he was slashed with a pair of scissors, he collapsed in front of his computer, and suddenly found himself in another dimension. Having found a purpose as a protector of the Digital World, he is much happier, although does still have problems with aggression. Update: Since leaving the Digital World, Ryouka becaame rather withdrawn and had little contact with any other Masters. At times, he's felt that he cannot live without the Digital World, as he never wanted to leave it in the first place. He misses Chase dearly, and would do anything to see her again. At times he's gotten dispondent and violent, which, having worried his parents, has led to him being under supervision from a social security officer for some while. He waits in hope of going back to the Digital World...

Jam Breeding Machine doesn't say anything about the Slime Tokens not being used as Tributes- you just can't summon or special summon any other monster to the field while that card is in play. Hence, Strings removed it just before summoning Slifer. It's only a 1000 Life-Point cost for Revival Jam, too. But either way, Strings probably would have lost first.
Yugi vs. Bakura part two starts off where we left the last episode, which Yugi, Bakura and everyone else on top of the Battle Blimp encased by the Dark Sanctuary. Just as Yugi decides to finish the duel and attack with Gamma, a ghost springs out from the back of it and educts half of Gamma's attack from his Life Points, and adds the same to Bakura's. Yami Bakura explains that the ghost of the Dark Sanctuary allows him to possess one monster, and wif Yugi attacks with his monster half of that monster's Attack Points get deducted from Yugi's Life Points and added to his. I can't quite remember what happens next, but Yugi decided to attack him with Dark Magician Girl, from which a ghost uddenly leaps back and hits Yugi's LP again. Bakura then reveals that he can choose which monster he can possess each turn, so Yugi has to make the right choice as to which. He summons Kuriboh in defense mode, and I apologise for the vagueness of this and the next few bits as I can't remember what happened >_

Today saw the first two episodes of the Battle Blimp arc in the UK and they were good episodes, despite having rather a lot of the same thing over and over again (i.e. they didn't want to start the first duel in the first episode so they repeated things you already knew). But it wasn't unnecessarry by any means- we finally saw all eight finallists coming together
Kaiba, Yugi, Joey, Mai, Marik, Odeon, Bakura and Ishizu
and taking off in the Blimp, which itself looks pretty good. There were also some funny moments in Joey's room. The second episode was
Yugi vs. Bakura
, which was pretty exciting. The gang have now realized that
Bakura has his ring back and is once again under the control of the Spirit of the Millennium Ring. It kicks off with Bakura summoning The Portrait's Secret in Attack Mode and Yugi destroying it with Gazelle. He then destroys Bakura's Gross Ghost of Fled Dreams and Headless Knight with Gamma, bringing Bakura's Life Points down to 450 or so. Bakura then summons Dark Necrofear (which has the baby doll edited out), which is then destroyed by Yugi's Dark Magician Girl equipped with Magic Formula, bringing Bakura's Life Points to 150. As far as I gather, DN's effect is ignored as Bakura doesn't take control of either of Yugi's monsters, but he does use Dark Sanctuary, the effects of which we'll have to see in the next episode...
Overall, it's pretty good so far. I hope Nickelodeon will keep showing the new episodes for a good stretch of the arc, preferably at least until
The final battle between Yugi and Marik.
Ben's mom still hadn't told him that Bubbles the fish wasn't going to come back...

Solemn Judgement negates the action of the trap, but Bandit Keith said it reflected the attack back at Yugi, so the effect was right, it was just explained wrong. In the same way that Joey explained that Gearfried couldn't be infected by Weevil's Parasite Paracide card because he was metal, and that the Mystical Elf always seems to have these magical abilities that she can't actually do on her own, heh (i.e. not without a Gift of the Mystical Elf' card'). So there are terminology errors too. Another example is when Joey's Flame Swordsman attacked Kaiba's Rabid Horseman and was destroyed not because the ATK of Flame Swordsman was lower, but because Rabid Horseman was resistant to fire monsters... egh.
Originally posted by Domon Uhh That isn't the star of david. Its a pentagram. Because the Dark Magician and Dark Magician Girl are called in Japan. Black Magician and Black Magician Girl. They changed those names so it didn't seem so cultish i guess. Just thought I'd clear that up for you.
I think the changing of Black Magician to Dark Magician may have been a politically correct move to avoid racial discrimination. At least it would have been in the UK. But anyway, that is actually a six-sided star- you can tell by the angles. It's the same on the Japanese version of the Spellbinding Circle. I think these kind of symbols are allowed on books and things, but not to stand on their own. Monster Reborn was originally a gigantic Ankh, but I think that could have caused a slight stir. But seeing it on books or as a pendant, cloak pin or whatever is more subtle. People wear those kinds of things anyway. About Exodia... the English version has a large white piece of material on his chest that looks really out of place. Was it there on the Japanese version, or did it have a design on it which was edited out?

I notied that, too. Almost all of my holofoils bend in some way or another >_< And it makes me cheat sometimes- if I see a bent card in my deck I know it's a holofoil (and good, usually) so I make sure it's in my hand, heh. But I un-bend them now. The Unlimiteds bend less then the First editions, too. But usually you can't tell until you open the pack. I like to be able to get at least one Super rare when I get some boosters in multi set. So far in the LOB European set I've had five Celtic Guarians, three SORLs, five Polymerizations, four Curse of Dragons, three Trap Holes and Two Man-Eater Bugs. Not one Raigeki. Now if there was a way for telling which rare card was in which, then...

Lupaemon watched worriedly as Kaede seemed not to move. This wasn't going so well. It all looked so easy when people did it on TV. "Look, Keade..." She said nothing. Kylala circled around, looking between the two of them with an expression of concern. "We have to get out of here. You must have more of a purpose than to die." "Why?" she whispered. "But..." Lupaemon started. This was the most difficult conversation he'd ever had, and he'd studied Latin for a week. "It just doesn't make any sense." "What do you mean?" "You mean to tell me you were created to be destroyed? You gained your Hybrid just to leave it at the bottom of a naturally formed sewer? That's crazy. Can't we leave the depressives for when we're out of here?" he ranted, turning down the right fork. He waited for an answer from the darkness, hoping he'd said the right thing.

I've never managed to understand this much. I tried weighing them but I can never tell the difference- sometimes Super/Ultra rares are lighter, sometimes heavier. I know the Dark Magician in the Yugi Starter deck is a lot heavier than the others, but as far as I know not many of the others are. With the European Legend of Blue Eyes set at least, the Ultra and Super rares seem to be lighter, but with any other pack I can't see much of a difference. Personally (maybe it's just an excuse) I like a bit of dumb luck, even if you do get something a little disappointing (like your fifth Lightforce Sword >_
Originally posted by Altron Gundam The gods are banned --;
Technically yes, but I'm sure some people would and do still use them despite that. I think Domon has the best advice here: stay near a site or something with a list of translations on it. Or make sure you have an up-to-date patch on YVD or whatever you're duelling online with. Although I don't suppose it would matter that much unless you're trading or in a competition, but even then Japanese cards can't be used in US tournaments (and US ones can't be used in the UK *grumbles*). So I can't see the harm unless they say 'This card allows me to do 6 million damage to your LP' or something like that, when you have a suspicion that they may be cheating. Especially if it's at a crucial time in the game. Mind you, I have enough problems like that duelling with English cards sometimes. Card rulings are bizarre at times. It's a case of being able to pick out the real from the bogus.

Gradius was an arcade game made some time ago, starring a little spaceship that would shoot aliens. Well, I think so. Toon World would remain on the field- t itself doesn't have an effect as such, as the only thing printed on the card is that it needs 1000 Life Points to be activated. The monsters can only be summoned if Toon World is still on the field, and Imperial Order doesn't destroy magic cards, it just negates their effects. So you could still play toons because of their own effects, not due to Toon World's, which doesn't say that 'You can only play Toons while this card is on the field'. At least, that's how I'd interpret it.

That many? The last of the four where
Joey duels Yugi under the control of Marik
was onlyon Saturday. So it's only two episodes ahead at most, I'd have thought. But you never know. The
Mai/Magnum
episode seemed a lot like an 'end of section' episode to me, but I severely hope they'll keep going after that. I can't put up with SkyOne only showing one episode a week. They are very good episodes though, but one's not enough to fuel my addiction.
I did think that the Mai vs Magnum one was very much a filler episode. I guess it had to happen sometime, but they annoy me because I want to get to the end of the series to see what happens to everyone. And Magnum was irritating. But it was good to see some Mai/Joey interaction. Good stuff, but not entirely necessary to the plot.
Anime Challenge: Where have all the staples gone?
Solo Tremaine replied to DeathBug's topic in Otaku Central
Originally posted by AzureWolf Really, what point are you trying to make? If you were tyring to make the point that it's impossible to make a decent deck without an exorbant amount of cash or luck, then there's no point in putting things that can easily be obtained. If the list was like the one I just made, then I could show you a good deck, haha. :)
That isn't the point of the thread. The point is to see whether people can make up for not having any staples and to see whether such a deck can be made. It's just an interesting challange to do. Like DeathBug said, we'd have to think harder and be more creative. Some cards, although easily obtained (e.g. in Starter Decks), can still be really crucial to a deck. And I'm sure some people do build decks from scratch without a starter, although getting a rulebook and playing field may be difficult, but that's not the point. The point is to try and create a deck which could be used IF you didn't have any staples. It's a hypothetical situation and an interesting challenge. Whether it would or could actually happen is another question.
