You're not a brother, you're not a friend. I don't want to know you or what you do. I don't want to see you at the hotels, I don't want you near my house. When you see our mother, I want to know a day in advance, so I won't be there. You understand?" The Super Mario Family Syndicate goes through tough times.

Mario's Italian-American. Of course he's got mafia connections. "It's-a nothing personal, eh?"

I thought that was probably the case. I wouldn't worry about it, then :p But I've still never seen any of the new PMs, infractions or anything else listed there; for me it's always just been the Subscribed Threads bit. Maybe I've just never clicked on User CP when I've had new PMs or infractions... whatever they are o_o;
You have whiny girls, helpless girls, "I'm coming out of my clothes" girls, uber-cute girls, and "I'm in love with [blank] " girls. For the most part, they're overlooked, not only because the story doesn't so much rely on them, but also because they're not that interesting. At least to me. But, I am a girl. Maybe the guy viewers/readers are more entertained by them than I'd be.
That's exactly what I was thinking ^_^ I'm a guy, though, and I really really like the series. It has a lot of ideas running through it that I really connect with. And for the most part the characters' sex isn't relevant to the story- they each a part to play and as long as Kubo isn't trying to make them more than they already are, I think it works. If you start taking it apart you begin to see the inconsistencies in depth of character, but being a guy I can understand how boys may well perceive a lot of girls in similar ways they're seen in Bleach. And I agree with what you say about Yoruichi- I think both she and Rukia, for their portrayal and parts in the story, could easily have been male or female. Same with Kukaku Shiba. And yeah, I'd agree that Tatsuki is probably the most realistic (although she's still a tomboy). But they're all very strong female characters- they hold a lot of power, and coming from a society that's still very male-dominant they'd have to have traits that make a lot of men strong to be where they are, The truly girly-girls are the characters like Orihime, Rangiku and Yachiru (although she's almost too young to count). An interesting observation ^_^

Yours, and mine, in fact. I was just wondering... I don't subscribe to any threads, but I've always wondered why, after adjusting your Control Panel, that you're always automatically redirected to the 'Subscribed Threads' page. I know all the links are in the left-hand sidebar anyway, but do you think it would be worth having links to the rest of your user sub-pages on the Control Panel default page, or at least a confirmation message that your changes have been saved after doing something to them? I know it's only a tiny little thing that probably doesn't bother anyone else, but I've thought about it ever since I first joined.
I'd like her to become more interesting, and we all know that won't happen due to a personality change. Her abilities are her only hope of garnering our affection. I'm not really attached to any of the female characters, with the exception of Yoruichi and Ururu (for obvious reasons). Is it possible Kubo has a harder time writing them?
It is a shonen anime, though; it's more geared to action rather than interpersonal relationships, which play a fairly superficial role in the grand scheme of things. It's probably easier for a male writer/artist to write something more male-orientated that can properly capture the subtleties of male behaviour and make that part of the story. You've got a very diverse range of male characters but a lot of the females fall into archetypal roles (not that many of the male ones don't either, though :p). So maybe, heh. Having said that, the female characters just haven't been given that much to do- Soi Fon had her entire backstory and resolution set out in a very short while; Rukia's just faced off against her past and Orihime's history was made clear at the very beginning of the series. The only difference is that Orihime has never completely grasped her powers so she hasn't even had a decent battle with anyone, but with only three techniques at her disposal there isn't far to take that. Aside from Tatsuki, who's been rather unfairly sidelined (might have been nice to see her in a coaching role for Orihime, or something) and a number of secondary characters who only serve one purpose each, that only really leaves Yoruichi to have any kind of meaningful story left to reveal. I can't see Orihime being much other than a damsel in distress unless she's given one last fight to prove herself in (but I'm reckoning if that happens then she'll collapse straight afterwards and then not do anything else).
That's what I meant by the vanishing subplot.
Oh, I see. I didn't even think it was in long enough for it to be called a subplot. More like a concept at that stage. Actually,
Magnadramon and Seraphimon in the movie were pretty nice, for all of the two seconds ther were actually on screen
. Would have been nice to see them get some proper action too. I guess that's what fanfiction and trading card games are for :p

I'd highly recommend Outlaw Star. It's fairly old now, but it's got high production values (in much the same way and a similar style to Cowboy Bebop), good music, good story, good English dub, too... It's a science-fiction with a lot of action and character, which looks like it should fit in well with what you've listed. It's definitely a shonen anime, so there are no particularly girly romance moments. It's one of my all-time favourites. And it's available on DVD in a boxed set :p
Did I mention I don't like 02's finale? One of my favorite villains got owned by
emotions.
It made me sad.
Haha, yeah. And what on earth was the
God of the Digi-deep about; that Cthulu-like thing randomly inserted at the end of one episode, but then never even referred to again?
Messy, messy writing. I think they tried to work in too many characters but then, instead of actually balancing them out (which they could easily have done in 52 episodes) they just focused on Davis and Veemon, leaving even well-established characters like Kari and TK relegated to second fiddles. Although the Ken stuff was good. The best moment in the series was probably
when they defeated him as the Digimon Emperor and he got Wormmon back
. That was good. But the designs of the armoured digimon are still some of my all-time favourites. Yay Flamedramon and Digmon.
Captain Falcon seriously should've jumped out of the Blue Falcon and done a huge Falcon Punch as he raced by during his FS. That would've been so much more awesome than simply running the person down.
Or just done an insanely powerful Falcon Punch anyway, heh. That would have been cool.
I couldn't even really follow what was happening during Luigi's FS.
I think (I've only watched it the once) everyone who gets caught in it (aside from Luigi) is slowed down and takes continuous damage, so they're being constantly worn away and unable to effectively retaliate for as long as they're stuck in the nega-bomb, or whatever it is. Something involving E.Gadd's vacuum might have been more appropriate for his character. This makes him look like he practices voodoo or something o_o;

Is it not just possible that God created stuff... and then it evolved? Either way, I don't really mind. The other posts in here are far too well-constructed for me to attempt trying to form an opinion of my own.

Here's a poser for you. You are creating an anime. Doesn't matter what genre or the animation budget- it's yours, and it is definitively an anime, and not an American animation. My question is: Would you choose to have animated for Japanese dialogue with English subtitles, or have it made for English? I know it's a slightly moot point as lip-flaps on the whole aren't particularly English or Japanese in their construction either way, but I'm interested to know what people think. I know there'd be a lot of bizarre logistics that would have to go on (i.e. translation, re-translation, etc etc), but this is purely from a hypothetical point of view. When I imagine my stories, I imagine them in English, because I am a native English speaker and I think in English. But if I were to think about making it an anime I'd at least like a Japanese theme song (or have a song with a Japanese version), and probably have the dialogue in English. Certainly I'd use a veteran anime composer for the soundtrack- I'm looking at you, Yasuharu Takanashi/Yoko Kanno. Do you think it would affect the quality if English were the original intended language of the animation? I suppose another question is, what would your dream production team be for an anime? Which studio would you like, which director, which composer, seiyuu/voice actor, etc etc. I would elaborate on my choices further but I need to walk meh doggies. A final question, which is just as an aside, really: Have there been any anime produced that were made for English dialogue? I know Moon Sang Kim's Sky Blue was animated twice- once in Korean (where it was called Wonderful Days) and once in English, and Mad House animated the first episode of Megas XLR, but is there anything else that people have seen? Thank you for your time ^_^
The plot is fairly basic and no-nonsense. You play as Joseph Turok, a native American commando, and you're out with Whisky Company to hunt down a one Kane, who was your mentor and leader of your previous commando brigade; Wolf Pack.
So much for the 'Turok' lineage and sense of spirituality, then. I preferred the Turoks when they were lithe hunters, not bulked up US commandos.
Not just the Espada, God help the world. Do we really need someone that maniacal and blood-crazed running around with bankai?
I really like the fact that he's stayed loyal to Soul Society, though, despite his monstrous power. I think being a Captain gives him too much purpose to just rampage around, a la his backstory. By the way, have we established what happens when Shinigami die? Does their reiatsu just disappear or do they get reborn on Earth?

Manga Naruto Manga [Warning: Spoilers]
Solo Tremaine replied to Ryo the Tactician's topic in Otaku Central
I don't know, I think it's feasible that Sasuke could lose both eyes and still be powerful enough to continue. Then maybe we find out that the Sharingan comes from within. Mmm, you can smell the corn. Or perhaps this is where Orochimaru returns from inside Sasuke? He's still there, don't forget. I don't know where Kishi could take Itachi's story if he succeeds though. Like you said, Gavin, it'd be boring if all of the Sharingan users between them all had one working eye. -
Well, the entire roster's been properly confirmed now.
For those who don't know, the 35-character roster was true all along. Figures :p
I must say that, aside from the initial feeling of 'Oh, they could have tried to put another couple of more interesting characters in', I'm now past that and feeling pretty happy. Now I know who all the characters are I can actually just sit back and wait for the game. It's going to be pretty damn amazing. Pity I'll be waiting for so long though. Stingy bloody Nintendo of Europe.
Dating scares the ever-loving **** out of me, blind or not.
Same. There are a number of people I like, but I'll always find reasons to discourage myself. I know it's just fear of things going wrong, though. There's only been one person I've not felt that for, and then she buggered off with someone else >.>; Typical. But I guess if you find someone you're willing to bridge that gap for then fear doesn't really come into it. It would take a lot of persuasion for me to go on a blind date. I've been set up with people by friends in the past and they turned out to be right weirdos. I don't know if that's just bad luck, but I like to get a sense of whether they're the right kind of person first before digging deeper. And anyway, I much prefer meeting people in a more natural way- being forced into meeting each other is a little barbarous if you ask me.

No idea. Looks quite cute, though. The sheer number of these confirmed/de-confirmed characters, rumours, 'leaked rosters' and "I know this" claimants is giving me a headache. 'Prophets'? Please, this is hardly the second coming. I can't believe how desperately some people will clutch at straws to try and confirm something that they won't definitely know for another three-four (perhaps five) days. I'm almost past caring now. I just want the game.
I personally can't wait =D Tho i am abit miffed that Marth isn't in it anymore, but Ike seems to be a decent enough replacement.
I don't think all the characters have been revealed yet. I'll be dead shocked if they have. If current speculation is anything to go by, Marth might yet be playable. It's so frustrating, though- I've not been able to concentrate all day because a desire for concrete Brawl news has invaded my mind and made itself my top priority. I had so much work planned for today...

If you look at the Japanese site they have a different video- Snake vs Ike vs Kirby vs Mario.
Consider what I said before complaining that I'm a bigot.
I really don't think that's what he meant, Raiha. Anyway, I find religious hate groups like the website indicated in the LiveJournal link deeply disturbing. To even go so far to say "nothing else about Heath Ledger is relevent or consequential" is basically saying that because he played a homosexual character in one film, that's enough to damn him for all eternity despite the entire rest of his life around that. It's quite sickening.
-
I read on an MSN article that he'd developed sleeping problems whilst playing Bob Dylan, which continued to plague him during filming for The Dark Knight. So maybe an accidental overdose, then. It doesn't make much difference to me personally- I haven't seen that many of his films -but it is a shame to lose him.
Long and short is, Shonen wouldn't be nearly the same right now if Akira Toriyama hadn't stepped into the ring.
Of course I understand its importance in anime's development, but that doesn't mean I personally have to like it. But even then, I think to say that 'without it everything else that came after wouldn't have existed' is a tall one.
Ah yes. You can't diss Dragonball (Although DBZ was more entertaining from an action perspective).
Ooh, I can :p For one thing, there's something about watching overly muscular men suddenly transform into even more overly muscular men and punch each other at high speed that turns me right off. And personally, I don't really like Toryiama's style of drawing.
I tend to know what I'll like and want I won't by reading about the anime beforehand but there have been a couple series I ended up dropping after only one episode. Those two would be Bubblegum Crises: Tokyo 2040 and Scryed.
That's a shame- I liked Bubblegum Crisis. I've not watched it in a while so I don't know how well it's held itself after a few years, but the first time round it developed pretty well, in my opinion. The first episode was a bit slow, though. And the music's not so good.
You show respect for Astro Boy not because it's some great opus but because it is one of the founding fathers of anime.
'Founding father' of anime or not, people are allowed to dislike it. To be honest it's never interested me- neither in the story or the animation style, because I'm not a great fan of older anime (apart from Nausicaa and Mysterious Cities of Gold). Likewise, I have never watched Akira, and I don't intend to. Even the original series of Transformers isn't particularly amazing to watch now, despite it's classic, near god-like status amongst nostalgic cartoon fans. People can get too carried away with stuff like that. But it's a moot point.
"I r gunna train den be da greatest fighter evar! and git meh vengence gaisnt de ebil samurai!!!" Generic plot...
Heh, sounds like Dragonball. Except the samurai part.
