OOC: S'okay. Good to see you back, though. :) ----------------------------------- Aidan hauled MetalArmadillomon's heavy bulk back through the night, trying to get back to sheltered ground before the Pipismon caught up with them. Most had been destroyed by Digitamamon's attack. He hoped the same wouldn't happen to his partner. He hadn't said anything since he'd been hit, and Aidan was starting to panic. "Stay with me, come on. Kotemon, do you know anyone who can help?" he shouted ahead. Kotemon shook his head. "The best thing to would be to get to shelter so we can see how bad he is. There's a cave around here somewhere." They ran further, across grassy field, until they came to a small hole in the cilffs they'd traversed through earlier. Crawling inside, Aidan laid his digimon on the ground. He wasn't moving. "MetalArmadillomon, can you hear me?" * * * "Where am I?" Everything was dark. He couldn't see anything around him. He could feel something in the darkness, though. Something was haunting him. A faint whisper emenated from the dark mist behind him. He whirled round. "Who's there?" A glint of metal shone through the mist. It was a sword. "Aidan?" he called. A figure stepped out of the mist. It was Daleth. He was holding Aidan's sword with a manic glint in his eyes. MetalArmadilomon backed away and felt the ground crumble underneath his back leg. Glancing behind him, he saw a huge drop down a crumbling cliff. Daleth was walking closer, flicking the tip of the sword menacingly... * * * "I'm going to try bio-merging." Aidan said suddenly, looking at his digivice. "What? You can't be serious. Then you'd both be trapped inside." Aidan took the crystal form his pocket. "But what about the light energy you said this gave out? What if I took that inside to help get rid of Digitamamon's curse?" Kotemon shook his head. "I don't know... I'll keep watch until you come back." "Thanks, Kotemon." Aidan held the crystal to his digivice and took ina deep breath. "Biomerge Activate!"

Rumour has it it'll be broadcast on Cartoon Network in the US. Although there'd probably be no way of getting it here in the UK for several months :bawl: It sounds like a really good concept. There was a live-action TV series a long time ago called the Oddessy (sp?) about this boy who was stuck in a coma and travelled this fantasy world trying to get out and find his father. It was very good, and sounds similar to this, which can't be a bad thing. I assume that that's one of the characters on your avatar, James (and also Sephiroth too, if I remember right), yes? They look very well done. And a good soundtrack sounds promising, too. I like anime music. I look forward to its arrival with hopeful anticipation.

It depends whether an intelligent and worthwhile discussion can be brought about by the thread's 'resurrection', as it were. If you have something valid to say, then I can't see why it shouldn't be brought back, providing it can be replied to. It's when spam topics or threads that have been completely discussed to a point where nothing else can be said start coming back that they get closed. Or, any ones that start up old arguements long since settled. So really, it depends on the subject. Just as long as too many old topics aren't brought back. We don't want the whole archives regurgitated.

Woo! New opening! Sounds interesting. Pity we haven't got that far yet. At least, I don't think we are yet. We're onto the episode where
Joey looses his Red Eyes to a Rarehunter
tomorrow morning. Is that this one here? Seeing Bakura's always good. I'm glad he's in the title sequence now. I always found it rather annoying in things like Digimon where they almost never change the opening to make it more interesting. Is the music the same?

I think people read into these things too much. It's the 'cause and effect' thing. For example, a kid watches a violent film and then hits someone. The general assumption may be that he hit him because of the violent film. The fact that the other kid may have hit him earlier has nothing to do with it, of course. People love to have a scapegoat. According to The Simpsons, if you play 'Maybe I'm Amazed' backwards, you get a Lentil Soup recipe. I'm not sure if this is true, but they played it over the credits and you could hear something going backwards. Whether that was added in by them I don't know. but often I don't think people do it deliberately. There was a thing in Digimon a while ago (the dub's been taken over by Disney) that said that if you play the opening theme backwards you get messages like 'Disney's great' and things like that. I couldn't hear any of it. But even if people did do it, how is your brain supposed to hear it over the rest of the song and then be able to reverse and decipher it? It seems a little far-fetched to me.
Originally posted by Rick Hunter Also the UK for most anime movies and japanese monster films (kaiju)have a tendency of re-dubbing them from the american versions. The re-dubbing process can take quite awhile for them to finish, just like it takes the US a million years to bring out a 12 year old db episode and even longer for the UK to do the same.
I don't think I know of any anime movies that have been dubbed by the UK. As far as I know, it doesn't happen. I always thought we got them fresh form the US. But I've not seen that many. I know things like Ghost in the Shell, Blue Sub 6, Princess Mononoke, Macross Plus and various other films aren't redubbed by the UK. The popular, most well known ones aren't altered as far as I see. Which ones are, out of interest, RH? I'm not trying to disprove you or anything, I just didn't know it happened.
Originally posted by Rick Hunter Another factor is that the UK stations probably don't see a reason to air anime, it's still very underappreciated in america and took pratically 15 years to get as popular as it is here.
That's true. We have a poor market for most, if not all things that aren't mainstream. About the uncensored-ness: Satellite channels are a lot more free about things like that. The sci-fi channel shows films like 'Earth Girls are easy' during the early afternoon, and that has swearing in it. Although they censored it from Eva, which seems a bit odd, even though it was shown at around the same time in the day. I guess they feel that people can swear in live action films and no-one will think anything of it, but they can't in animation. I guess there's still a slight stereotyping for anime to be considered for children there.

OOC: I've changed part of Shade's history and my first post in here(or at least I will do in a sec)- he's Boshi's son now. -------------------------------------------------------- Shade stood defiantly in front of him, holding a large egg. Scowling angrily, he hurled it forwards. Bowyer shot it iffortlessly from the sky and laughed. "Useles, your efforts are! Beat me you will not!" Shade ran off into the forest, the others watching him with looks of confusion. Bowyer smirked. Suddenly, the blue Yoshi came crashing through the tree branches, having catapulted himself from a nearby tree. He pointed his spiny shell forwards and slammed into Bowyer's back. The creature yelped in pain and threw Shade to the ground. "Painful, that was. But beat me you did not! NYAH!" he fired a Flunky at Shade, who rolled away just in time. It graized one of his legs, causing him to howl painfully. Geno looked to the others. This wasn't going as well as he'd hoped...

"Get out of 'ere! Ve are closing!" Aidan listened intently to Digitamamon's incessant screaing at the rest of the digimon. It was getting dark here now, the sun settling behind some high mountains in the distance. Listening to the egg digimon stomping around the floor below, he gestured to the two digimon. Kotemon didn't feel right doing anything without Teth, but knew they had to save the Digital World. Slowly, they opened the door. They could hear Digitamamon complaining loudly about the stinginess of all his customers. "...no tips! Cheap load of... Suddenly, they heard a heavy thudding of footsteps. Pulling the bedroom door shut very quickly, Digitamamon stormed past, carrying a tray of food into what they gathered was his bedroom. Silently, they crept along the corridor and peered down the stairs at the bar. There was no-one there. As they crept up to the mirror, Aidan could see the stone clearly. "It isn't very well guarded." he whispered thoughtfully. "Not many people come looking for them." MetalArmadillomon whispered back, keeping an eye out for any unfriendly digimon. "There's probably a good reason for that." Aidan replied, climbing up the shelf to the hole. Careful to avoid the sharp edges of the mirror, he took hold of he crystal. It wouldn't move. As he pulled harder, he began to hear squeaks coming from the wall. He gave it one last hard tug and it flew free of the thing's grip, sending him sprawling onto the floor. Suddenly, a deafening screech shattered the mirror. Hundreds of Pipsimon filled the room from the cavity behind the mirror, launching themselves at the three of them. Aidan swiped at some with his sword, knocking them the floor, while MetalArmadilomon and Kotemon tried to clear a pathway to the door. They burst through, the Pipsimon swarming behind them. Sprinting down the street, they heard a sinister voice. "Nightmare Syndromer!" The dark attack thundered through the twilight sky and hit MetalArmadillomon squarely in the back. Immense pain swelling over him, he did his best to keep on running. Everything started spinning around him, he lost balance, and he collapsed to the floor. From the shadows, Daleth grinned evilly...

OOC: Whoo! Sorry I missed a bit. :bluesweat Been busy! --------------------------------------- Shade didn't like the sound of kicking monster's butts that much. It sounded like a rather nasty thing to do. He remembered he'd met Bowsie once, after falling on him from the top of a tree. Once Bowsie'd pulled himself off his (rather fat) stomach, he'd threatened to kick Shade's butt, too. He didn't know what butts were, but he guessed it would hurt, whatever they were. As he pondered these thoughts, he noticed a tree in front of him. It had a long, thin trunk, perfect for catapulting. "Woulnd't it be quicker to fly?" he said, hinting very obviously. "No." Geno said abruptly. "But... we'd miss the trees. And the nasty things." "That's true, but think about it this way- we'll be seen far more easily up there, Frosgfucius' pond is under the trees anyway, and we'd have no way of being able to catapult everyone in the right direction. You can fly later." he said firmly but kindly, taking them further into the forest. Shade bit his lip thoughtfully, following behind Debbie. As they wandered deeper into the forest, he could hear things moving around them. It grew darker as they went on, and the trees grew much higher. As they came to a small clearing, Geno, at the head of the group, suddenly stopped. In the bushes, he saw a glint of a green shell. "Koopas..." Debbie whispered fearfully.

Aidan sat in the rented bedroom, staring out over the roofs of the town. It seemed strange that these were built by digimon. You didn't tend to think of creatures as having a proper society. He lay back on the bed, trying to take in all that had happened. Kotemon and MetalArmadillomon were watching a spider crawl over the floor, bored and slightly annoyed that they now had to wait, when time was already against them. Suddenly, Aidan broke the silence. "Why are we here? What are we supposed to be fighting against?" MetalArmadillomon cleared his throat. "Someone's raising up an army of digimon to attack the real world. We need to top them." "But... who are they? Where is this army?" Aidan asked, sitting up again. The two digimon shrugged. "We need to find it soon. They've been give a lot of time to get ready." "What about these crystals?" "They're very powerful. Anyone would want to get their hands on them if they were trying to raise an army." "So.. they're like a power source, then." Kotemon nodded and took over the explanation. "These crystals were originally part of a larger crystal which gave a light energy to the digimon in the Digital World. Then, just over a year ago, it shattered, sending it's pieces far off into the continens and oceans. It's breaking allowed a dark power to take over the Digital World and create the dark marks. If the crystal pieces can be put back together, we could restore the balance." "Or, create a weapon capable of mass destruction. The energy could be channeled in a way to destroy every electronic appliance on Earth." MetalArmadillomon continued gravely. "...leaving humans powerless and unable to counterattack." Thoughts of destruction filled his mind. A grim expression struck his face. "We have to stop them. I wish Fenix and Mena were back with us."

What we get is exactly the same as the US versions, I believe. I can't think of anything that's been heavily edited, though. Digimon was when it was being shown by CITV, but that's all I can think of offhand. Some of the swearing was bleeped out of Eva. Well, one instance. The only instance I've ever heard. Outlaw Star isn't censored. We had lue Sub 6 on CNX the other night, too. I don't think we do that badly at all. It's just not advertised very often, so it can be hard to miss. Fire Emblem video/DVD would be great, though...

We get rain. That's about it. Back in 1987, there was a massive hurricane, and we've had quite a few floods recently. Um... we get tornadoes around the South from time to time. Not huge ones, but enough to do some considerable damage. I've always wanted to see one, but they scare me so much. So somewhere a long way from anything I want damaged/killed would be nice ^_^;;

I noticed the same thing when I moved from Years 9 to 10. In Y9 I always handed work in on time (or early, yeech) etc, but as soon as I hit Y10, I didn't care about things any more. Not to mention I didn't like my friends that much any more (I was hardly ever noticed by them). It's a strange thing to explain, but something happened over that summer holiday that made everything seem not worth working for at school. I still feel like that now, really. But, it was at that same time that I met my new friends, who I'm still great friends with today. So you may find that you'll start to grow away from your friends even more and start meeting other people. I guess that period, looking back, was the start of one of the best times of my file (which I'm still living now). It may seem slow, but sticking it out would be the best advice I can give. I can't offer much advice about getting off school, sorry (although putting bread in the sink, sticking chunks of stuff on it and running the tap over it does look a lot like vomit. Not that I ever did that :p). To be truthful, I've missed three Tuesdays in a row because I don't like the lessons or the teachers I have. It's a bad way of getting through things, because you'll regret it later, most likely. If you can convince someone that you really need a day off the that's good too, but I wouldn't get your hopes up about that. Once coursework's done and you start revising for various exams things get a lot more lax and you have a lot more spare time. One of the best things to do (although it seems a bit pointless seeing as Lady K and Ken have said it already) is to relax and take time out to do things you enjoy. Physical exercise is great for clearing the mind of stressing thoughts, so the gym or an afterschool sports club thing might be good for that. Do things you like doing and make them your priority when you're out of school (besides homework >_

Gaming Nintendo Reveals Technological Breakthrough (Very Pic Heavy)

I'm not too sure I like the GBA SP's looks, thinking about it. It seems rather plain to me. I always thought the GBA was nice with it's purple colour and rather shapy shape (great wording there :p). I don't like the squareness of the SP, or it's colour. It makes it look too much like a Minidisc player for my liking, and silver on its own looks a little plain to me. They woulnd't be able to make future handhelds much smaller. I know when I have managed to play them that I liked holding something with at least some substance to it. You don't want to have to be pushing buttons with Biros or anything. But still, if it has a backlight and all, I think I might consider it, especially if you needa a GB to get the most out of your GC. -
OOC: S'okay. Is cool you're still here :) ---------------------------------------- Aidan sat at a bar stool. It was rather uncomfortable, being made for a digimon. "Er... could I have a drink, please?" A large Digitamamon turned to face him. "Ve don't get many like you arround here. Vhat's yourr story?" Aidan shook his head, watching MetalArmadillomon struggle up to the top of the stool. He picked him up and placed him precariously on the small cushioned pad. "It's too long and complicated. What drinks do you have?" Aidan asked. Digitamamon eyed him suspiciously. "The cheapest one's five digi-dollars." "Ah. Um..." he turned to MetalArmadillomon and whispered inhis ear discreetly. "We haven't got any money. Should we leave?" "Try winging it. We'll be chucked out onto the street fpr the niht if he finds out we don't. And you don't want to be out at night in a plae like this." Aidan couhed and turned back to Digitamamon, grining. "Would it be okay to refill my bottle?" he asked, taking the empty bottle fromhis bag and handing it to the rather angry-looking barmon. He took it reluctantly and half-filled it with water from the tap. "No charge." He said in a surly voice. "Thanks." Aidan said cheerfully. As Digitamamon turned back to the bar, Aidan noticed a hole in the top corner of the large mirror opposite him. In the black cavity, he could see something glinting slightly. It looked to be the same colour as Fenix's stone... MetalArmadillomon saw it too. "Do you have any rooms for the night." "28 Digi-dollars, not including bedsheets," the digimon snapped back, handing out a glass of drink to a Numemon. "Great. We'll pay you in the morning." Aidan said cheerfully, getting down from his stool. He knelt down to his partner, pretending to tie up his shoelace. "Tonight, we can sneak out and take the crystal from the hole in the mirror. Then we can leave." "Sounds good. What about Kotemon?" MetalArmadillomon whispered. "He'll have to come with us. He can't stay here." "And where do we go after that?" "Wherever we get taken. Somewhere we need to go, preferably. Finding Mena and Fenix would be my first priority."
-
Aidan and MetalArmadillomon jumped out of the window very quickly- the rest of the marked digimon were getting ready to eat them. Daleth didn't look to impressed as David tried to hold a few of them off. Outside, they met Frankie. "Hey," Aidan panted. Frankie didn't say anything. David and Guilmon jumped out of the door while Daleth calmed the digimon down. "Did... did Mena and Fenix come with you?" Aidan asked, looking around. David shook his head. Aidan looked disappointed. "If Teth doesn't want me to follow him, then I'll go and find them. See you around." "Aidan," MetalArmadillomon called. "Why don't we stay here for a bit? It'll be night soon. And Kotemon needs someone to stay with." Reluctanatly, Aidan agreed, and they started searching for an inn with the least marked digimon inside. As they looked, Aidan began to wish he hadn't been drageed into all this. They had one Stone... The Stone! Fenix still had it! Whirling round to look back at the cliff pass in frustration, he couldn't see anyone approaching. They'd have to find the others. Fenix didn't even get to explain to him what ther were for, or even where they'd be. Still, if nothing else, he'd be able to get a good night's sleep here. He hoped.

Gaming Nintendo Reveals Technological Breakthrough (Very Pic Heavy)
Solo Tremaine replied to James's topic in Noosphere
Hmm. I've never been too struck on handheld consoles, really, although this is quite interesting. The main thing I'm wondering about is the ease of use. With the GBA your hands are a good distance apat from each other which reduces cramp and whatever. With that, half the size, your hands are a lot further together and may well cause some discomfort on prolonged playing. So I'd probably get the GBA, if I decided to get any at all. Another hing would be that it'd get lost a lot easier now it's smaller. Technologically, though, I'm very impressed. Looks quite good. And it's good to see Nintendo breaking new ground ahead of other companies/consoles. -
I remember something else I'd like to see in SSB:M. It's not much, but I thought it was fun anyway. I remember in the original Smash Bros that each character had their own way of getting onto the stage (Fox was dropped off in an Arwing, Mario/Luigi from Warp Pipes, etc. I'd quite like to see those again, although trying to find ones for Marth and oy could be a bit of a problem. Nothing too serious, though. It was just a nice touch, I thought.
-
I would! But anyway, the thing that put me off seeing The Spirits Within was the way the characters looked. They were well-drawn, yes, but he faces had no emotion on them. They were artificially wooden. You look at something like Shrek, and the characters had so much emotion in them. The ones in TSW looked blank a lot of the time. Granted, I've only seen a few seconds of it, but it reminded me too much of Titan AE, which I didn't like very much because it was just... lacking. The same as with this. Personally, I'd much rather see an animated fantasy movie in the style of FFVII than a CGI one like this. I'm a sucker for anime style, I guess. Not that these were too anti-anime, though (some were well designed, I think), but the game styles are much richer, I think.
-
The live action bits left before the SMB3 animation. I think one of the main reasons why the movie didn't work was because it wasn't animated. You can't do live action cartoons very well. It's the same reasons why the Asterix and Obelix films seem so bad. Like... the jump boots. They could just jump that high already, but you'd need the boots to be able to explain it in terms of 'real world' physics, and each bit of explanation that has to be done, takes away some more of the fun. Like the de-volution of the people into... Goombas. Or what were called Goombas. Mind you, having dinosaur-people seems to make more sense than giant walking mushrooms when not in animation. They seem more threatening, too.

Writing Digimon: Regaining Lost Passion
Solo Tremaine replied to Digital Monster's topic in Creative Works
I love the style of the dialogue. It's very true to the Adventure series. It's very good, I think. Well-paced, good description and colour-coded speech, too ^_^. -
I love Reboot lots. In fact, ADV releasing Season three on DVD was the reason for me getting a DVD player. I've not seen any of the TV movies, though :bawl: I want to! Silly Cartoon Network UK! What do you mean the movie never finished!? That can't be right! Are you sure you didn't just miss the end? *is worried about Reboot ending on a cliffhanger* The things I loved most about the series were the parodies on other things (like Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome, Mars Attacks, Star Trek), all carried off very well, and the characters were all well-developed thoughought the end of Season 2 and all of Season 3. It was really well done, I thought. Although Bob's VA change in Season three made him sound not quite so good. But it's a minor thing, that.

"Just one more go!" "No!" A young, dark blue Yoshi, Shade, sat on the floor with a sulky look on his face, amongst large pieces of stone. It wasn't his fault he'd been catapulted through the ceiling. He rubbed his back tentatively as his parents gave him a stern look. "I didn't mean to..." he said quietly, curling his long tail round next to him. His aunt rolled her eyes. "I know, but it's dangerous. Sometime you're going to get hurt. What would your dad think?" "But I want to fly! He wouldn't mind!" Shade cried in protest, jumping to his feet and holding his tail possessively to his chest. His father would stand up for him. Pity he was away competing in races at the moment. His uncle sighed. "Yoshis aren't meant to fly. We haven't got wings." "But Yoshi flew! I want to be like him!" Shade looked quite menacing at times, taking after his father Boshi. His spiny shell made him look like evil, as did his dark scaly skin and determined eyes. His carers both gave him a stern look and pointed to a separate division of the crude stone building. pouting angrily, Shade stormed into his room... and out of his window. He stuck his long tongue out angrily back at the house, and then ran off into the forest. "Wish dad was back. He'd let me fly. Hmm..." he thought for a little while, plodding through the forest. Suddenly, an idea struck him. "I'll go find the Princess! She'll let me fly!" * * * Some time later, he arrived at a waterfall overlooking a massive stone castle. Peering over the edge, he looked at the large pool of water below him. He didn't mind heights, but he wanted to make sure it was safe. Taking in a massive breath and puffing his chest out in front of him, he prepared to jump.

I don't think the broadcasting of it is too sparse. Let's see, as far as I know, there's Akira, Nadesico, Evangelion and Blue Gender (on Sci-fi, although NGE and MSN have recently finished), Tenchi, Gundam Wing, DBZ, Outlaw Star and Cowboy Bebop on CNX, Beyblade on CN, Escaflowne, Shinzo, Digimon, Shin Chan *shivers*, Hamtaro on FoxKids, Yu-Gi-Oh and Cardcaptors on Nickelodeon, Yu-Gi-Oh, Zoids, Pokemon and Transformers Armada on SkyOne. I don't see much to complain about there, apart from the lack of Lost Universe. That's 20 animes all together, and I think I've missed some. The main problem the UK has is with video/DVD release. The only ones I see are Macross Plus, Ninja Scroll, Generator Gawl 1+2, Princess Mononoke, Ghost in the Shell and Urotsukidoji (eep) on DVD, and all those and NGE: Death and Rebirth on video, so even then, it's not that restricted, really. I'd like to see some Eva and Nadesico series DVDs sometime (along with the Nadesico movie), and Lost Universe, please, ADV UK!
