I'm currently focused on writing- I have a fantasy novel in the works currently two-thirds complete on about 55,500 words. I'd love to get it published, but I've not really looked into it properly yet. I'm finding it a very scary experience reading up about how risky the profession can be and all the work that has to be done.[/COLOR] [COLOR=#503f86]For the last few years I've been mostly inactive on the 'Boards as I've been heading a small production company with my best friend. Now we're just reaching the end of our last major project together as he's moving to Australia, leaving me to my own devices.[/COLOR] [COLOR=#503f86]Anyway, way back when (as can be found in the Otakupedia listings) I wrote an OtakuBoards fanfiction, which is probably my biggest single contribution to the site even though it's long since disappeared into the depths of the Anthology forum. I used to moderate the Yu-Gi-Oh forum (when there was one), and was a Team Leader for a brief spell. [/COLOR] [COLOR=#503f86]I'm into anime, and I have a vast collection of anime soundtracks to go with it that serve as my major source of inspiration for my writing. My favourite series is Outlaw Star, but I'm watching One Piece, Naruto Shippuuden and Bleach at the moment. I'm reading the Fruits Basket and Bleach manga as well. I've attended a couple of conventions and would like to go to the next London Expo as Toni Toni Chopper but I doubt I'll have the wherewithal to actually construct a costume. Ultimately, I'd like to get a whole band of One Piece cosplayers together and do some sort of dance routine to the song in Django's Dance Carnival, but that's somewhat unlikely. [/COLOR] [COLOR=#503f86]I'm fairly athletic- I enjoy taking my three doggies for walks and do a lot of historical reenactment combat, as well as a fair amount of work for the local theatre including stage combat choreography and workshops. The first Cosmic Luigi level was much more difficult than I was expecting though. It took me many many attempts (mainly because I'm not that great at stringing long jumps together). The little changes they put into the script are satisfying too- it's nice to know they're not taking things too seriously by admitting they have essentially just substituted a character. I have about 42 stars with Luigi now. I'm aiming to get as many as I can before facing Bowser. I'm not looking forward to having to blow up that bloody trash again on the Dreadnought level though. Bloody nightmare.[/spoiler]

I very much liked Tamers too, although I enjoyed the first two seasons thoroughly also. Wow, I sound [i]incredibly[/i] English there. Best tone it down a bit, heh. Digimon is probably the biggest single reason I got into anime. Pokemon was a start, but Digimon was (and still is) miles and miles better, in my opinion. The actual character development, creatures that couldn't just say their own names (but be inexplicably unable to construct other words out of the sounds used in their names), proper storylines... it was a dream. Sigh. Season Four was never aired in the UK as far as I'm aware, so for me the weakest season was 02. Too much focus on Davis for my liking, and Cody and Armadillomon were token characters at best. And Armadillomon was one of my favourites... ah, never mind. Let's not open up that kettle of fish again. Personally I didn't feel it was as well-written as the first season. The ideas were good, but it could have been tightened up. The movies (aside from 4 and 5) are pretty good, too. I enjoyed them far more individually in Japanese than I did the bizarre dub remix. Digimon: X Evolution isn't too bad either. Good for fans of just the 'mons themselves.[/COLOR]

He doesn't have a briefcase he could whack people with, does he? I've told myself I'm not allowed to buy Brawl until I've finished the first draft of my book. The thing is, like Dagger said, it was a time when science fiction was very much in fashion (Star Wars was still creating a lot of buzz in the US at the time), and mecha of any sort were at the time rarely seen outside of computer games and feature films. You had things like Gasaraki, Nadesico, Nadia, Queen Emereldas, and Lost Universe being advertised on DVDs released at the same time, and ADV also had the DVD distribution rights to Farscape as well. The sales of that are as likely an indicator as anything to tell them what kind of things to pick up.[/COLOR]

For one thing, it's not about [spoiler]'reshaping' the world as such- they were sent to prevent things from happening in the future they escaped from. It doesn't change the world in the same way it apparently happens in Eva (which I'm still not sure about, given the rather complicated and ambiguous nature of both the series and the movie endings).[/spoiler] [/COLOR] [COLOR=#503f86]That said, it's been a long time since I watched Gawl and I don't remember much about it. [COLOR=#503F86]I think 'to be an Otaku', you do have to elevate yourself to a higher level than a 'fan'. Cause I'm an anime/manga fan, but I haven't (yet) made myself a costume and/or done many other wierd and wonderful things that die-hard anime nuts go for. Shock horror, I actually like some English dubs! So I doubt I could ever fully be called an Otaku. Nor would I want to. I did consider trying to make a Tony Tony Chopper costume for this October's London Expo, but I haven't had time. I guess that would catapult me far more towards a higher level of fan/geekdom, but even then it's not like I live, sleep and breathe anime. I don't generally download episodes- I'm happy to wait for them on DVD, even if it takes an age and a half. To me, it would mean someone who [i]only[/i] watches anime or reads manga, who downloads episodes religiously and still buys the DVDs (but complains about them- specifically the dubbing and subtitles -nonetheless), spends most of their time at the bookstore sitting on the floor next to the manga shelves reading all the volumes they have, then not buying anything; making (or buying off eBay) a different costume for each convention and spending an inordinate amount of time on the internet discussing spoilers. Strangely enough, I've never known (or seen) any girl otakus. Although I have seen a few sitting on the floor in Borders reading the manga there.[/COLOR]

It's not really that much about anime discussion any more- theOtaku's news feed appears to take up more of the anime-centric traffic who are into discussing things. [/COLOR] [COLOR=#503f86]The impression I get from reading most of the threads in Otaku Lounge is that the site is now primarily for people who have been here for a relatively long time (say, six months plus) and who've managed to work themselves into the more verbal, prominent OB populace. To me it looks like a fair number of members join up just to report problems in the MyOtaku Suggestions/Feedback thread, and I haven't seen that much of an evolution in the community for a while. I don't consider it nearly as open or welcoming as I used to- there's a fair amount of cliquiness and hostility that I find a little unnerving, and that's even with having known most people here for a while. I could be wrong, though- I could just be looking at the wrong threads.[/COLOR] [COLOR=#503f86]But it's fine, really- it's for the people who post here, and since I don't it doesn't make any difference what I think of it. As long as people are going to contribute to the site then it's worth keeping it going and it's more or less serving its purpose.[/COLOR]

It helps to throw in crude jokes or the odd swear word. Pretend to be better/cooler/know more than everyone else, so every post is apparently a waste of your time. Woe betide anyone who should criticize you. Through your stinging commentaries on various members, thread topics and site designs; your sarcastic, semi-insulting comments will glean you a charm amongst the OB populace, and while you have a cantakerous, argumentative and rude outer facade, inside you will be standing proudly on your OB podium with a smile on your face and a tear in your eye. Weaknesses: Don't expect to get modded if you start like this from the off. And make sure to hide those early posts wherein you were a lowly, unconfident newbie with a font two sizes too big for your words, asking sheepishly 'Can I post my wallpaper here?', otherwise your big 'bad-boy' image is shattered forever. And of course, you leave yourself open to the one fatal flaw in the 'Pretend To Hate It' method; the simple question: If you dislike the site so much, why are you here? And then you may just have to admit that, actually, you really do love it here and cry every time you get torn away from the screen to go to bed. This method can sometimes be confused with Method 1, but while those using that method can just be jerks, people who Pretend To Hate It are not always necessarily jerks. But a break-up will almost always hurt no matter what you do. Some people would say that if you're afraid of hurting people then you shouldn't get into relationships in the first place, but that's a little cynical. And you could miss out on something special. If you're having difficulty opening up to him as well, then that's another thing to address. If you don't know how he's going to react when you tell him something important to you, then you won't necessarily feel that you've built up the trust necesarry for intimacy. I'd try opening up to him a little more first. If he's witty, patient and kind then chances are he should take it well and you may find something stronger come from that.[/color]

And both events, individually, felt like they were the most important things in the world to happen to me. It's a cliche thing to say, but you know it's love when you're in it. if you're sat there debating whether you love them or not, chances are you don't, but it may not take long before you do. The second time I got dumped, which I couldn't cope with. The first time I just fell out of love. It happened reasonably quickly, actually; my feelings for them just started to change and suddenly I didn't see them as anything more than a friend, aside from one who I'd been very close and open to. But because she was so happy with me, I was scared of disappointing her by having to tell her I was having problems, and in a way I hoped either I'd get over it or she'd find someone else to run off with. Didn't happen, though. And it's not as if she wasn't what I thought she was going to be- she was (and still is) a fantastic person, but it just wasn't what I wanted from a relationship, and there was a horrible sense of guilty awkwardness being there to make her happy when all I was thinking about was how much I didn't want to be in that situation. It's instilled a lot of doubts about myself, though. I don't think I ever gave her a proper apology for one thing, which is still hanging over me. But it's also made me wonder what my next relationship will be like. In a way I'm [i]almost[/i] satisfied with being single, but then I remember things about being in love with someone that make me want to find a partner again. I don't really want to enter into anything that I don't think is going to work, either. Now, I've a tendency to analyse everything about them and look at myself in comparison, thinking 'is this what I want?', and by the time I've made a decision they've usually buggered off. I don't think you can truely love someone from first sight. You can fall in love with an image of someone (that you've seen, say) as an ideal, but then you start building up your own fantasy of what they're actually like, and you're basically falling in love with something false and/or intangible. At the same time he also wrote theOtaku.com's expansive [url="http://archives.theotaku.com/yugioh/"]Yu-Gi-Oh section[/url], which included an incredibly detailed episode guide, card database, reviews, rules, restrictions and a thorough deck-building guide. He was usually associated with Kenshin, from the Rurouni Kenshin anime series, which frequently appeared in his avatar. [b]Later Years[/b] However, once theOtaku v4 rolled around and OtakuBoards' traffic increased, places like the Yu-Gi-Oh forum started to generate more posts, and it appeared that this in particular became the problem area of the site's main anime sections. Altron was also prone to be terribly inactive at times, and criticiscm of him and his position quickly caused a rivalry with Shy, newly appointed as Super Moderator of the anime forums. It was the final escalation in his comments to out-and-out flaming that removed him from his Staff position and resulted in him being banned... again. Although I guess it must have been one of the most prolific ^_^; It actually sparked off intending to be a tribute to James. Lady Katana and I were discussing a present to give him and I suggested writing a story. But to get to the chapter that was specifically meant for him, I needed to write an introduction to the context, and then things just got a bit out of control and new storylines kept springing up. The original chapter I intended to do still hasn't been written yet, so officially Enter the Net is as of yet unfinished, and will probably remain so. As much as possible I tried to keep it all-encompassing, trying to include accurate OB history and in-jokes and trying to make sure that I didn't focus too much on the Moderators alone. The last thing I wanted to do was for people to feel it was exclusive, as it was written for primarily for everyone on OB to read, and I tried to avoid setting up an Enter the Net 'clique'- a lot of subsequent stories starred almost entirely the same cast of members regardless of the plot, scenario or author. I think [b]Bikini Bandits[/b] deserves an article, if we're having a section on Literature or OB Fan-Fiction.[/COLOR]
