Here?s my new list for poorly done anime and that would be A Wind Named Amnesia.
Ahaha, I saw that one and I didn't like it either. Didn't help that I was ill at the time, but it was bad even before that. Another pretty bad one I was given was Detonator Orgun. It was just... I think it was an OVA but it was confusing, was all over the place in terms of its pacing and tried to fit far too much into a very short space of time, introducing a female character whom the lead fell in love with in the second episode, only for her to die a few minutes later and for that to serve as a driving piece for the rest of the plot. I didn't like Crayon Shin-Chan, either. It's just not my thing, in many ways. Shinzo was another, obscure one that aired on Fox Kids for a while at a weird time that felt like it was poorly executed, fairly cheap stuff. I didn't like Samurai 7, but I wouldn't say it was a bad anime. It just didn't keep me interested, even after the second volume. Same with Last Exile.
Over a year has past since that time, and I've only just now realized what a terrible thing I did. Reid has always loved me with her whole heart. Recently, we've made a quick, strong reconnection. This reconnection brought with it a literal flood of emotion, and an immediate reminder of how much I really did care for this girl. ... So, I determined that enough time had past with this issue still unresolved. I decided to kiss her, and I did so. She kissed me back, too. A couple of days later, we talked. She told me she loved me, she was glad that it happened, but those feelings were from a long time ago. She doesn't want to be with me. So, I'm having something of a hard time. I really just needed to get this off my chest; but I hope it generates some meaningful discussion.
I'm sorry things aren't working out for you Justin. I won't go into it, but I can identify, heh. I'd still keep your friendship with her- a strong resurgence in your connection can only be a good thing, but she may still need time to adjust to knowing you outside of Alex. After all, she may still have unresolved emotional issues relating to the whole thing, and she may see some lingering threads of emotion in you (but not necessarily about you) arising from it. But if you keep your friendship (and I'm sure you will, as she means so much to you), then things may turn out somewhere along the line. I mean, at this stage it may be better to try as you can to focus on the friendship, but better things may grow from it. I've missed opportunities and always, always hated myself for it afterwards. At least you had the guts to follow up on it even after all his time. I think it's a huge credit to you that you gave her the time and space you know she needed even though it was at the expense of something you desperately wanted. I know I'd have done the same thing in your place. It's all very easy to judge in hindsight but there would have been no guarantee that she would have been in the right emotional state to cope with a relationship had you stepped in, and that might have changed things between you for the worse.

New Members: Introduce Yourselves Here
Solo Tremaine replied to Charles's topic in General Discussion
I'm not new by any stretch of the imagination, but I just wanted to give a quick wave to everyone I know who's still around. And to new(er) people whom I don't know, also. Hello ^_^ I'm 22 and from the UK, a budding/potential writer/actor although I haven't decided which I want to (try and) pursue to a full-time career. I'm currently focused on writing- I have a fantasy novel in the works currently two-thirds complete on about 55,500 words. I'd love to get it published, but I've not really looked into it properly yet. I'm finding it a very scary experience reading up about how risky the profession can be and all the work that has to be done. For the last few years I've been mostly inactive on the 'Boards as I've been heading a small production company with my best friend. Now we're just reaching the end of our last major project together as he's moving to Australia, leaving me to my own devices. Anyway, way back when (as can be found in the Otakupedia listings) I wrote an OtakuBoards fanfiction, which is probably my biggest single contribution to the site even though it's long since disappeared into the depths of the Anthology forum. I used to moderate the Yu-Gi-Oh forum (when there was one), and was a Team Leader for a brief spell. I'm into anime, and I have a vast collection of anime soundtracks to go with it that serve as my major source of inspiration for my writing. My favourite series is Outlaw Star, but I'm watching One Piece, Naruto Shippuuden and Bleach at the moment. I'm reading the Fruits Basket and Bleach manga as well. I've attended a couple of conventions and would like to go to the next London Expo as Toni Toni Chopper but I doubt I'll have the wherewithal to actually construct a costume. Ultimately, I'd like to get a whole band of One Piece cosplayers together and do some sort of dance routine to the song in Django's Dance Carnival, but that's somewhat unlikely. I'm fairly athletic- I enjoy taking my three doggies for walks and do a lot of historical reenactment combat, as well as a fair amount of work for the local theatre including stage combat choreography and workshops. But, I do have a dodgy hip and have started to suffer from bizarre, random palpitations, so the amount I do currently may reduce somewhat depending on my next hospital appointment, heh. Random facts: -I have never changed my username, nor my e-mail address. -I found this font colour myself using a hex code generator some years ago. I feel very protective of it. Although the site's background colour is looking dauntingly similar, now I think about it... -I have been mistaken for a girl nine times online, twice by the same person in the space of a week (Mitch). In person, I have not yet been mistaken for a girl. -I am not a furry. Really. -The RPG I enjoyed most when I was a regular was Sandy's OtakuBoards Survivor: Game On! -Edit: I am very fussy about my own spelling. -I sound really prissy in this post >.>; I'm not at all. It's nice to be here again. I'm loving the new skin, by the way. Very old school :p -

Playing as Luigi is a lot of fun. His control is significantly different to Mario.

The beauty, I guess, is that Luigi makes some challenges marginally easier and others significantly tougher. I wonder if anything happens when you beat the game with Luigi. Probably nothing, but still, it'd be interesting to try.

I was surprised how fresh the game felt with even the subtle character differences- I'm not feeling like playing all the way through again is a chore, unlike other games with an arbitrary 'complete the game again for this extra stuff!' addition. The first Cosmic Luigi level was much more difficult than I was expecting though. It took me many many attempts (mainly because I'm not that great at stringing long jumps together). The little changes they put into the script are satisfying too- it's nice to know they're not taking things too seriously by admitting they have essentially just substituted a character. I have about 42 stars with Luigi now. I'm aiming to get as many as I can before facing Bowser. I'm not looking forward to having to blow up that bloody trash again on the Dreadnought level though. Bloody nightmare.

Tamers is definitely my favorite. I've only seen about 1/3rd of an episode of Savers, but I plan to watch it like the others after Frontier. What little I did see I wasn't too excited about, but I won't make a judgment based on a fraction of an episode.
*applauds politely* well said, sir. I very much liked Tamers too, although I enjoyed the first two seasons thoroughly also. Wow, I sound incredibly English there. Best tone it down a bit, heh. Digimon is probably the biggest single reason I got into anime. Pokemon was a start, but Digimon was (and still is) miles and miles better, in my opinion. The actual character development, creatures that couldn't just say their own names (but be inexplicably unable to construct other words out of the sounds used in their names), proper storylines... it was a dream. Sigh. Season Four was never aired in the UK as far as I'm aware, so for me the weakest season was 02. Too much focus on Davis for my liking, and Cody and Armadillomon were token characters at best. And Armadillomon was one of my favourites... ah, never mind. Let's not open up that kettle of fish again. Personally I didn't feel it was as well-written as the first season. The ideas were good, but it could have been tightened up. The movies (aside from 4 and 5) are pretty good, too. I enjoyed them far more individually in Japanese than I did the bizarre dub remix. Digimon: X Evolution isn't too bad either. Good for fans of just the 'mons themselves.

I don't think he has enough diversity for a complete moveset, unfortunately. I've not played any Ace Attorney games- all I've seen are screenshots and stuff. He doesn't have a briefcase he could whack people with, does he? I've told myself I'm not allowed to buy Brawl until I've finished the first draft of my book. Which is fine, because it doesn't look like it'll be out in the UK anytime this side of July anyway.
I haven't seen Rahxephon, but it came 2 years after Gawl. Gawl was in the time of Eva's remaining rediculous popularity, and since ADVs money has always ridden on Eva, I woudn't be surprised if Gawl was only liscenced for the similarities.
They were licensed at more or less the same time, though- it's not like ADV was formed initially for a single series acquisition. The thing is, like Dagger said, it was a time when science fiction was very much in fashion (Star Wars was still creating a lot of buzz in the US at the time), and mecha of any sort were at the time rarely seen outside of computer games and feature films. You had things like Gasaraki, Nadesico, Nadia, Queen Emereldas, and Lost Universe being advertised on DVDs released at the same time, and ADV also had the DVD distribution rights to Farscape as well. The sales of that are as likely an indicator as anything to tell them what kind of things to pick up.

Phoenix could be in as a support character- he could 'Object' to someone's last move or KO or Final Smash and reverse the last few seconds of action. That would be interesting.
-
Calling it an Eva knock-off is a little unfair. If anything it's more like RahXephon in the way things happen. For one thing, it's not about
'reshaping' the world as such- they were sent to prevent things from happening in the future they escaped from. It doesn't change the world in the same way it apparently happens in Eva (which I'm still not sure about, given the rather complicated and ambiguous nature of both the series and the movie endings).
That said, it's been a long time since I watched Gawl and I don't remember much about it. I think I remember enjoying it, but being a little frustrated by the English dub. Those were the early days of ADV though. Methinks I shall watch it again at some point, in Japanese.

What does it mean to be an Otaku?
Solo Tremaine replied to OtakuSeeker's topic in General Discussion
Another thing that I want to throw out there, if anyone wants to comment on, is this idea that being an Otaku is, in some ways, resisting American popular culture. It sounds a bit far-fetched, but you'd be surprised how many articles I've come across by scholars who think being an anime fan is some way of rebelling against American mainstream culture.
I'd agree with that. There was a discussion ages and ages ago in the anime forums about anime becoming more and more mainstream, and I remember one person in particular being vehemently against anime becoming mainstream, despite the obvious advantages it would bring (i.e., cheaper products, greater availability, less social outcastness, etc). I suppose it's a fandom that often lends itself to more artistic/introverted types? -
What does it mean to be an Otaku?
Solo Tremaine replied to OtakuSeeker's topic in General Discussion
I think 'to be an Otaku', you do have to elevate yourself to a higher level than a 'fan'. Cause I'm an anime/manga fan, but I haven't (yet) made myself a costume and/or done many other wierd and wonderful things that die-hard anime nuts go for. Shock horror, I actually like some English dubs! So I doubt I could ever fully be called an Otaku. Nor would I want to. I did consider trying to make a Tony Tony Chopper costume for this October's London Expo, but I haven't had time. I guess that would catapult me far more towards a higher level of fan/geekdom, but even then it's not like I live, sleep and breathe anime. I don't generally download episodes- I'm happy to wait for them on DVD, even if it takes an age and a half. To me, it would mean someone who only watches anime or reads manga, who downloads episodes religiously and still buys the DVDs (but complains about them- specifically the dubbing and subtitles -nonetheless), spends most of their time at the bookstore sitting on the floor next to the manga shelves reading all the volumes they have, then not buying anything; making (or buying off eBay) a different costume for each convention and spending an inordinate amount of time on the internet discussing spoilers. Strangely enough, I've never known (or seen) any girl otakus. Although I have seen a few sitting on the floor in Borders reading the manga there. -
I'd really love for someone to update the Digimon forum article into something more comprehensive.
I'd be happy to do that. I've run out of things to procrastinate with at home :p I wasn't there from the beginning though, so I'd need info on when it started and who first moderated it and stuff (it was you, Ginny and Digital_Monster when I started, as I recall), as well as any anecdotes you want to share. -
OtakuBoards is a forum for OtakuBoards members. It's not really that much about anime discussion any more- theOtaku's news feed appears to take up more of the anime-centric traffic who are into discussing things. The impression I get from reading most of the threads in Otaku Lounge is that the site is now primarily for people who have been here for a relatively long time (say, six months plus) and who've managed to work themselves into the more verbal, prominent OB populace. To me it looks like a fair number of members join up just to report problems in the MyOtaku Suggestions/Feedback thread, and I haven't seen that much of an evolution in the community for a while. I don't consider it nearly as open or welcoming as I used to- there's a fair amount of cliquiness and hostility that I find a little unnerving, and that's even with having known most people here for a while. I could be wrong, though- I could just be looking at the wrong threads. But it's fine, really- it's for the people who post here, and since I don't it doesn't make any difference what I think of it. As long as people are going to contribute to the site then it's worth keeping it going and it's more or less serving its purpose.
Aww, come on, Hugey! You can't say that with the hunky wolf still as your avatar. It was meant more as a friendly jab, anyway. ;D
No, I know ^_~ 'Furry' just has so many negative connotations, you know? I'm just not a 'furry' furry (as in, with weird sexual practices and drama and bizarre costumes and whatnot). Just a normal person with furry tendencies, I guess. And the wolf's staying. he's cool ^_^

I don't think I ever wanted to be called a furry, in fact- I don't really agree with the label.

Method 18: Pretend To Hate It Find something about the 'Boards that you don't like and make that the crux of your apparent OB hatred, taking time to complain about anything else that happens to irk you along the way. Insults should be thinly-veiled (unless directed at the less popular members) to avoid being banned. This way you can just about escape warning-free. It helps to throw in crude jokes or the odd swear word. Pretend to be better/cooler/know more than everyone else, so every post is apparently a waste of your time. Woe betide anyone who should criticize you. Through your stinging commentaries on various members, thread topics and site designs; your sarcastic, semi-insulting comments will glean you a charm amongst the OB populace, and while you have a cantakerous, argumentative and rude outer facade, inside you will be standing proudly on your OB podium with a smile on your face and a tear in your eye. Weaknesses: Don't expect to get modded if you start like this from the off. And make sure to hide those early posts wherein you were a lowly, unconfident newbie with a font two sizes too big for your words, asking sheepishly 'Can I post my wallpaper here?', otherwise your big 'bad-boy' image is shattered forever. And of course, you leave yourself open to the one fatal flaw in the 'Pretend To Hate It' method; the simple question: If you dislike the site so much, why are you here? And then you may just have to admit that, actually, you really do love it here and cry every time you get torn away from the screen to go to bed. This method can sometimes be confused with Method 1, but while those using that method can just be jerks, people who Pretend To Hate It are not always necessarily jerks. Your mentors: cloricus, Altron Gundam, DeadSeraphim Method 19: Love Yourself Some would argue that the best way to acquaint everyone with yourself is by a massive self-advertising campaign. After all, who knows you better than yourself, hmm? How will all these people appreciate your greatness if someone doesn't tell them how good you are? Write humourous fan-fictions starring yourself, constantly, and don't let up for a second. Self-confidence is a great thing, so use it to your advantage! Weaknesses: Believe it or not, people can have too much of a good thing, so it's best to give them a break every now and again. Heavens, even you may tire from seeing your own face too often! And that would be a great shame. Your mentors: Dragon Warrior Accompaniment to Any Method: Once your popularity is established, by this or other methods, you may want to start self-gratifying threads about OtakuBoards so you can count how many times your name pops up. You may want to namedrop as many people as possible in order to get reciprocation. This is an indulgence many people undertake, popular or not, so don't worry if someone has beaten you to it. Either way, if your name doesn't come up enough, it's time to get working again!

I guess I'll wait and see.
I've only seen the preview on the Adult Swim website, and I'm not so keen on the way the pronounce Kon's name like 'cone' (instead of 'on'), but regardless I'll buy the DVDs anyway when they eventually make it to the UK.

Gaming Nintendo of America being sued for patent infringement
Solo Tremaine replied to PWNED's topic in Noosphere
I don't really understand the legal system that much, but surely they should be sueing Nintendo of Japan for developing it, rather than Nintendo of America for distributing it? Either way, I seriously doubt they'll get anywhere much. If anything, it's just going to boost Wii sales as people start worrying that it'll get taken off the market. -
Am I over-anilyzing things?
Usually when someone asks that question, they probably are :p On the other hand, if something doesn't feel right then it's probably right to question it. Slightly different scenario, but I've been in a few situations where I could have had sex, but didn't becaue for whatever reason it wasn't right. When I didn't feel ready, it wouldn't have been right to force myself to just for the sake of it because it could have ended up damaging myself later. But, there will always be a time when you have to take a leap of faith and trust that it's going to be alright. But usually you know when you have to make that choice at the time. If he doesn't feel like someone you can be comfortably intimate with, then don't be. Something obviously isn't gelling.
I just don't want to hurt him. If I do not really love him than how do I dump him without hurting him? How do you even tell if you are in love? I don't want to screw this up!
For qeustions about love, I'd see the 'Falling in Love' thread a little further down. But a break-up will almost always hurt no matter what you do. Some people would say that if you're afraid of hurting people then you shouldn't get into relationships in the first place, but that's a little cynical. And you could miss out on something special. If you're having difficulty opening up to him as well, then that's another thing to address. If you don't know how he's going to react when you tell him something important to you, then you won't necessarily feel that you've built up the trust necesarry for intimacy. I'd try opening up to him a little more first. If he's witty, patient and kind then chances are he should take it well and you may find something stronger come from that.
I do think that you can fall out of love for the simple reason that love is something that is constantly changing. You don?t fall in love and then it?s permanent. I think it?s something that either withers from lack of attention, or grows stronger as the relationship progresses. So I don?t think it?s absolute either.
Yeah, definitely. I've been in love twice before. And both events, individually, felt like they were the most important things in the world to happen to me. It's a cliche thing to say, but you know it's love when you're in it. if you're sat there debating whether you love them or not, chances are you don't, but it may not take long before you do. The second time I got dumped, which I couldn't cope with. The first time I just fell out of love. It happened reasonably quickly, actually; my feelings for them just started to change and suddenly I didn't see them as anything more than a friend, aside from one who I'd been very close and open to. But because she was so happy with me, I was scared of disappointing her by having to tell her I was having problems, and in a way I hoped either I'd get over it or she'd find someone else to run off with. Didn't happen, though. And it's not as if she wasn't what I thought she was going to be- she was (and still is) a fantastic person, but it just wasn't what I wanted from a relationship, and there was a horrible sense of guilty awkwardness being there to make her happy when all I was thinking about was how much I didn't want to be in that situation. It's instilled a lot of doubts about myself, though. I don't think I ever gave her a proper apology for one thing, which is still hanging over me. But it's also made me wonder what my next relationship will be like. In a way I'm almost satisfied with being single, but then I remember things about being in love with someone that make me want to find a partner again. I don't really want to enter into anything that I don't think is going to work, either. Now, I've a tendency to analyse everything about them and look at myself in comparison, thinking 'is this what I want?', and by the time I've made a decision they've usually buggered off. I don't think you can truely love someone from first sight. You can fall in love with an image of someone (that you've seen, say) as an ideal, but then you start building up your own fantasy of what they're actually like, and you're basically falling in love with something false and/or intangible. Like all these fangirls who actually believe they're in love with people like Johnny Depp.
Awesome. I'm kind of with you there. Except, most of the weapons are rather cumbersome (and so is the armor), so tha's a small drawback. I'd personally like to live somewhen where swordplay is appreciated and widely used; past, future, it doesn't really matter. I kind of feel I was born in the wrong era anyway.
I'd rather not say the Dark Ages as such- too little's known about it to know for sure what it was like. I'd prefer anything post 1400's, personally. That's probably the golden age for knights and plate armour (even though they've been around since well before then). But then you need to consider the considerable difference in body strength between them and us if you were to go back (knights were trained from the ages of 8 upwards don't forget, and people had to practice archery every Sunday- technically it's still law in the UK)... I'd love to be able to use my swords properly, but I know I wouldn't stand a chance if I actually went back. Now Japan in the 1400s... that's an incredibly different story. I wouldn't mind going back to the Georgian era. Then you can still have duels (albeit illegal ones), plus you get some fantastic clothing.

Otakupedia Entries/Suggestions/Discussion thread
Also, I feel I should request a section for notable spammers, such as Big Poppa Hump, SSJ4 Gokou/Altron Gundam/Flame of Recca, will2x, and whoever I'm forgetting.
I don't know any of the early stuff about Altron; only after he became Yu-Gi-Oh Moderator (presuming it's the same person and I haven't gone completely wrong). It needs clarification, adding to and cleaning anyway. Altron Gundam Altron Gundam was a prominent staff member in the anime forums who originally joined as Flame of Recca during v2. As FOR he made attacks on the boards, and attempted to flame the early boards in what was known as the "Flame of Recca War." As a result his account was deleted, but he eventually returned to the boards as SSJ4 Gokou. His name then changed to Recca Hanabishi, Rurouni Kenshin, Altron-Gundam and then his final moniker stood as Altron Gundam from here on in. Very soon after the Boards' rejuvination in v3 he was made a Moderator of the General Anime forum, despite allegations that he had been involved with various spamming incidents Altron found himself unhappy with moderating the spam-filled General Anime forum, and would eventually be transferred to Dragonball, Gundam and eventually Yu-Gi-Oh. At the same time he also wrote theOtaku.com's expansive Yu-Gi-Oh section, which included an incredibly detailed episode guide, card database, reviews, rules, restrictions and a thorough deck-building guide. He was widely regarded as an authority on the subject, albeit a rather forceful, elitist one. He was usually associated with Kenshin, from the Rurouni Kenshin anime series, which frequently appeared in his avatar. Later Years However, once theOtaku v4 rolled around and OtakuBoards' traffic increased, places like the Yu-Gi-Oh forum started to generate more posts, and it appeared that this in particular became the problem area of the site's main anime sections. When Solo Tremaine was recruited to Staff and overtook his position at the head of the Yu-Gi-Oh forum to moderate it, he took it rather personally, perhaps because he viewed himself as the chief authority of the subject on the Boards. His reactions to how little he thought of other people's criticisms of his own deck were well-documented, as well as his tendency to resort to personal insults to criticise people's Decks that weren't up to his standard. Most of his criticisms stemmed from the fact that most players on the site were using cards released by UpperDeck in the English translation of the game; with his knowledge of future Japanese card releases, he always knew which cards were going to be useful ahead of the game and could adjust his allegedly 'invincible' Decks accordingly. While still able to provide intelligent and constructive criticisms of other people's Yu-Gi-Oh playing ability, during this time he seemed to develop particular rivalries against Domon and DeathBug, with posts often descending into flame spats in various Yu-Gi-Oh threads. Altron was also prone to be terribly inactive at times, and criticiscm of him and his position quickly caused a rivalry with Shy, newly appointed as Super Moderator of the anime forums. It was the final escalation in his comments to out-and-out flaming that removed him from his Staff position and resulted in him being banned... again. He later returned as the user Tyrant Dragon, where his penchant for personal insults continued. This was quickly banned, as were his other subsequent usernames, including ArgolisDragon, G-Unit, Sanosuke9480, Asheron, Red Inferno, Alucardfire and Athos, who was allegedly a 'friend' of Altron who registered to the OtakuBoards to accuse Domon of plagarising some fictitious cards used in an OtakuBoards RPG. Otakupedia Entries/Suggestions/Discussion thread
Enter the Net was one of (if not the) earliest OtakuBoards fan fictions, written by renowned furry Solo Tremaine. It chronicled the trivial adventures of OB members in a virtual OB world as they went about a life filled with danger, intrigue, and Junior High-esque moments, battling n00bs and exploring and stuff. Needless to say, it was pretty awesome, and everyone wanted in on that. Cameos by members not related to the plot were in the high 30s, and being included in Enter the Net in even a cameo role was (and still is, among some) a badge of honour. Having two entire chapters revolving around yourself, like that handsome DeadSeraphim guy, was like ascending to Godhood. Enter the Net was that influential. Unfortunately, influence is a double edged sword, and it soon spawned dozens of half-baked OB fan fictions by people who either liked the original concept enough to emulate it, or wanted to one up it. These ranged from serious and gritty, to silly and forgettable. To date, few OB fan fictions have been as good as the original.
I don't think it was the first- I seem to remember there being a few other bits and pieces before it. Although I guess it must have been one of the most prolific ^_^; It actually sparked off intending to be a tribute to James. Lady Katana and I were discussing a present to give him and I suggested writing a story. But to get to the chapter that was specifically meant for him, I needed to write an introduction to the context, and then things just got a bit out of control and new storylines kept springing up. The original chapter I intended to do still hasn't been written yet, so officially Enter the Net is as of yet unfinished, and will probably remain so. As much as possible I tried to keep it all-encompassing, trying to include accurate OB history and in-jokes and trying to make sure that I didn't focus too much on the Moderators alone. The last thing I wanted to do was for people to feel it was exclusive, as it was written for primarily for everyone on OB to read, and I tried to avoid setting up an Enter the Net 'clique'- a lot of subsequent stories starred almost entirely the same cast of members regardless of the plot, scenario or author. I think Bikini Bandits deserves an article, if we're having a section on Literature or OB Fan-Fiction. -
What You Want For Christmas THIS YEAR
- First season DVD set of Digimon [/color']
There's a one of those? I want one too. I really haven't though much about Christmas this year. I'd rather focus on getting things for other people. But, I would love for Reboot to get a Season 5. But that probably won't happen, heh.
