News and Rumors for Sunday, April 27 Hey hey hey, greetings to all and thanks for stopping by here at --------.com for the weekend news and rumors, this a special pre-PPV edition. WWE's Backlash event airs later today and so naturally much of this report will consist of the usual preview and predictions that I like to post each month. There's also other general WWE news and notes to discuss including Jeff Hardy's release from the company. So without further ado, here are Sunday's news and rumors... Raw was an okay show I thought but as I started to get into last week, there are so many things about it that bother me that I usually never find it any different from week-to-week. The program progressed on two main and different fronts - first with Rock and Goldberg moving towards their upcoming showdown at Backlash and then with Triple H and gang headed towards their encounter as well. The Raw main event was solid as Booker T not surprisingly fell short in his quest to become World champion, but they did a good job of building towards the finish and by the time the match ended, I'm sure there were many fans who actually thought Booker T would win. Elsewhere, Rock held his Rock Concert Part 2 but it really was overkill as the segment degenerated into much of nothing with Gillberg showing up and Rock making Goldberg look like just another superstar on the roster. I'll get into this more later, but if you need a Raw Report, click HERE. Smackdown! was another average show with little direct buildup towards Backlash. The lack of star power on the show is beginning to become an issue as the main event ended up being Brock Lesnar taking on A-Train and the rest of the show was littered with people who ideally should be on Velocity. Nonetheless, the usual cast of stars like Chris Benoit, Rhyno, John Cena, Big Show, Sable and Torrie were all present in some fashion to further their respective storylines. But like I said earlier, it didn't seem like the show did much for Backlash as WWE really didn't do anything out of the ordinary that would entice some fans to purchase the PPV. Anyway, if you need a Smackdown! Report, you can find one HERE. Ratings for this week provided both good and bad news. First the good - Raw drew a 3.8 two-hour composite rating off of hours of 3.3 and 4.1. That reverses a recent trade which saw the Rating rating fall in like three consecutive weeks and probably has led to many officials in WWE breathing a sigh of relief. With Backlash this week and with the novelty of Goldberg's debut wearing off, it was become ominously obvious that maybe WWE overestimated the drawing power of Goldberg. Well, for now, the jury is still out so I won't pass judgment until after Backlash. The bad news - Smackdown! only generated a 3.9 overnight rating (one of the lowest overnight numbers that I can recall) and that ended up translating into a 3.1 final broadcast rating. Suffice it to say, a 3.1 is not what WWE was anticipating with relatively minimal competition. Weekend ratings were pretty much average across the boards, so I won't get into any details there. If you want the exact numbers, they've available on the newsboard. The big news this week in pro-wrestling was the release of Jeff Hardy. WWE stated it in very blatant terms on their website, I believe using the word "severed relationship" as the official word. Judging by the emails I have gotten, Jeff's release has bothered a lot of people but it seems like many don't understand the specifics behind it, namely the nature and reason for the release. First off, it was a MUTUAL release not a direct release, in that both Jeff and WWE sat down and decided that this was the best course of action. WWE didn't just call him up one day and say "Jeff, you're released. Bye." Instead, Jeff WANTED this. It is no secret that over the past few months and perhaps even past couple of years, Hardy's heart just hasn't been into wrestling. He began showing up late to numerous events and those who knew him commented that his passion for the business began to wane. WWE officials also noticed this and tried almost everything in their power to remedy the situation. They gave him a lighter house show schedule, they told him to take time off but apparently none of it really worked as Hardy continued to act like "his heart wasn't in it". Sources indicate that over the past six months, Jeff personally went up to WWE management (I'd assume VP of Talent Relations Jim Ross or maybe even Vince McMahon himself) and asked them to let him out of his contract. Reportedly, he wanted to concentrate on his music and didn't care about wrestling anymore. I'm not sure what exactly happened, but obviously they convinced him to stay probably working with him in every possible way to make him happier. The thought is that WWE always went easy on Hardy because they felt he was the key to their young female demographic. It's probably true because even when he's losing in a mid-card match on Raw, Jeff still gets popped. In the end though, none of it mattered as all parties involved decided that it would be best if he left WWE to concentrate on other ventures. Now as soon as the news broke that Jeff Hardy was gone from WWE, speculation started that the NWA-TNA might be interested in his services for their promotion. I don't have any inside information to draw the following from but I don't think he's headed there anytime soon. As stated above, Jeff reportedly isn't interesting in wrestling right now so I don't see what point it would serve him to join the NWA-TNA apart from the fact that it would be a lighter schedule, but again, WWE already worked with him on that. In addition, we don't even know the details of his release as often when WWE lets a wrestler out before their deal expires, they end up instituting a clause which prevents said wrestler from wrestling for a competing promotion. I'm not saying that is the case here but there's no way WWE would release someone like Jeff if they had any inkling that he'd join NWA-TNA. As for Jeff's future, I suspect he'll stay out of wrestling for the forseeable future though I definitely have a feeling that he will be back sooner or later. Not only because he is over with the fans, but because he didn't leave on good terms. Also, Jeff's brother Matt is still with the company in good standing and there's always the potential of WWE reuniting the Hardy Boyz later on as that would be received by a lot of excitement from many people. According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, the preliminary Wrestlemania 19 buyrate information is in and the number fell well short of expectations. Reportedly the PPV generated about 525,000 to 550,000 buys, which ends up figuring into a buyrate barely over 1.0. Those figures are about 35-38% below what WWE officials internally projected and the figures that Linda McMahon told to investors at their most recent conference call. To say that it's a disappointment would be a huge understatement as Wrestlemania is the WWE's biggest event each year and they basically stack the card and pull out all the stops to make the event a success. The WM 19 buyrate not only was much lower than expected, but it was the lowest Wrestlemania since the disastrous 1997 edition which was a flop on all accounts (some people consider it as the lowest point WWE has ever reached though the way they are headed, maybe these people will change their minds?). Whether this leads to WWE re-evaluating the state and direction of their company remains to be seen but with Backlash this Sunday, I guess they have the perfect opportunity to start changing everything that is wrong. By the way, the lower tha expected performance of Wrestlemania 19 apparently put WWE about $5.6 million under budget. Ouch. According to 1wrestling.com, WWE has little interest at this time of bringing back Lex Luger. Earlier this year, there were a lot of rumors that the company was toying around with the idea of bringing Lex back and when they started signing and bringing in people like Roddy Piper, Hulk Hogan, Sable, etc., it further fueled the speculation. I'm not quite certain on this, but I believe Luger himself started telling his friends that he'd be joining the company sooner or later. The way he saw it, Vince was getting desperate at seeing the sliding fate of his company and was bringing in past star after past star in hopes that they bring back some of the lost fanbase. Luger is also a big guy size wise and as history as shown, Vince is pretty much infatuated with such men thinking that such wrestlers are what the fans really want to see (this is probably partly why the Cruiseweight/Light Heavyweight division has never worked). Anyway, the bottom line is that Luger probably won't be coming in any time soon though this doesn't change the fact that WWE is still very interested in bringing in Sting. And I'm sorry to say, but I still hate the idea of bringing back wrestlers who peaked in the 90s. Kurt Angle underwent successful neck surgery two weeks ago and by most accounts, he's feeling much better and is still targetting a return to the active roster sometime over the next two months or so. This is probably public knowledge by now, but Angle decided to go with Pittsburgh neurosurgeon Dr. Hae-Dong Jho instead of WWE's surgeon of choice, Dr. Lloyd Youngblood. The two doctors promote radically different types of neck surgeries but for the sake of clarity, Dr. Jho's surgery is less extensive and would only sideline Angle for about six weeks, whereas Dr. Youngblood's surgery is the one that people like Steve Austin, Chris Benoit, Rhyno, Edge and Lita have had with a recovery of time of at least a year. Even though Angle was backstage at the Smackdown! tapings this past week, and even though Dr. Jho has told him that he could be back in the ring as early as six weeks, I don't think anyone in WWE wants to rush Kurt back which if true, would mean that he probably won't be back until about Summerslam or so and it is expected that at that time, he would re-enter into a feud with Brock Lesnar over the WWE title. In regard to Angle's wrestling future, most medical experts anticipate that sooner or later he will need to get the fusion surgery (the one Dr. Youngblood recommended) which as of now, Angle is saying he will get after he retires. In the meantime, if Angle's current surgery suffers from no complications, look for WWE to pretty much recommend all their wrestlers to him because the recovery time difference is invaluable to a company like WWE. Wow, this report is already getting pretty long and I haven't even got to the Backlash predictions, so I'll start those right now... The Rock vs. Goldberg - WWE has tried to make this seem like a "dream match" that everyone is clamoring to see, but they've done an awful job on so many levels trying to accomplish that feat. The most glaring problem has been how Goldberg has been portrayed as "just another guy" when instead he should be made out to be almost invincible since that is literally the only thing he has and ever had going for him. Right off the bat when they made Goldberg feature into that "comedy" skit with Goldust, you knew they were already ruining his character as Goldberg should never ever ever ever be in such silly segments. Then this past week, Rock basically made Goldberg look mortal or dare I say inferior by beating him up with a chair and hitting the Rock Bottom, something which I felt should not have been done. Anyway, what this likely does say is that Goldberg is surely going to win on Sunday as a loss would not only be completely pointless, but he'd be regarded as a complete joke by the fans. Oh, this could also potentially be Rock's last match before he takes off against to shoot another film, yet another reason why he will probably do the job. Prediction: Goldberg. John Cena vs. Brock Lesnar - With Kurt Angle needing neck surgery as described above, WWE went scrambling to find a top heel to replace him opposite Brock Lesnar. After much internal debate, it was decided that Cena's push would be hastened and he'd be put into the Backlash main event for the title. Some will and already have questioned this move as Cena's push has been a lacklustre and not too many people even believe that he has much of a chance against Lesnar. If rumors are to be believed, Cena is almost a stop-gag solution as WWE bookers probably have little confidence in him (yet) as the top heel and speculation persists that next month, Chris Benoit or even someone like the Big Show will instead be penciled in to face Lesnar. On the virtue of that and basically taking everything else into account, Brock surely won't lose this match. But I still would have liked to see Chris Benoit involved in the mix, perhaps even in a triple threat match. At least that way, we'd be guaranteed a good match. Prediction: Brock Lesnar. Triple H, Chris Jericho & Ric Flair vs. Kevin Nash, Shawn Michaels & Booker T - Ah, the Cliq strikes again as this "storyline" has been all about Triple H, Nash and HBK and nothing about Booker T or Chris Jericho. One just had to look at the Raw main event where Booker T came within inches of winning the total but the show ended with Triple H and Kevin Nash yapping at each other with Booker nowhere to be seen (reminiscient of RVD vs. HBK a few months ago where RVD lost, rolled out of the ring and left Trips and Shawn to hog the spotlight). Anyway, I see the faces going over here mainly because Kevin Nash is back and probably getting ready to work a program against Triple H. Furthermore, the heels got the last laugh on Monday and history has indicated that WWE ends up flipping roles at the PPV. I think we can ignore Jericho and Shawn Michaels as they are more or less secondary characters in this match. Much of the attention will instead fall upon Nash and Triple H and to a lesser extent, Booker T. With rumors circulating that Triple H will defend his title against Nash at one of the upcoming PPVs, it seems to fall into place that at Backlash Big Daddy Cool will pin Triple H to set up this "much anticipated" showdown. Prediction: Nash, Booker T & Michaels. Team Angle vs. Los Guerreros - This is probably the only match that will be worth watching if you're a fan of actual in-ring wrestling. There's not much to say here except that Team Angle continues to gain momentum as a tag team that fans can take seriously and I think they definitely need the belts much more than the versatile Guerreros do. With their "leader" Kurt Angle sidelined, I fear that Team Angle without the belts would just fade into obscurity as the bookers would more or less stop concentrating on them. On the basis, I will say that they will retain their tag team titles. Prediction: Team Angle. Dudley Boyz vs. Kane & Rob Van Dam - I honestly have no idea where they're going with the entire Dudley Boyz storyline. First I thought maybe they were setting up the two to split up and feud against one another and then I thought, nah, they're just gonna end up turning face for what seems like the millionth time. As of now, I still have no idea and honestly, it's not even interesting to the point where I could actually care. I guess I'll just predict that the Dudley Boyz will win via the help of Chief Morley and then maybe afterwards, they'll make their face turn by telling the Chief that they didn't his help, they only look out for each other, blah blah blah. Prediction: Dudley Boyz. Sean O'Haire vs. Rikishi - O'Haire is finally back in WWE but he's still not by himself as WWE figured sticking him with Roddy Piper would help him get and stay over. I'm not one to argue with that as I think it's the best way to use these old-timers so in the end, I think it will help O'Haire more than one would assume. Meanwhile, Rikishi is back on TV in the same role we've seen him for YEARS which makes it quite obvious that the guy is stuck in neutral with no chance of really moving forward or backward. They have him with Jimmy Snuka now and feuding against O'Haire but it doesn't change the fact that not too many people care. Conversely, O'Haire is actually a fresh character so I think he'll score a pretty clean victory here, and if not, possibly with some help from Piper. Prediction: Sean O'Haire. Jazz vs. Trish Stratus - Oh boy, another Jazz/Trish match. I think it's time to face the fact that the women's division is pretty much dead once again and though it will always be a part of WWE TV in some form or another, it will never amount to much. Jazz has recently been repackaged of sorts and even though she's still being showcased as "the *****", she's now joined forces with Theodore Long and Rodney Mack in a continuation of their little racist angle. Since Jazz has Long and Mack backing her up, I'll say one or both of them will help her score the win because you know...Jeff is gone and as such, there's no one there to protect Trish! Prediction: Jazz. Big Show vs. Rey Mysterio - Last week I mentioned that I didn't understand why WWE insisted on misusing Mysterio by making him wrestle Big Show. To clarify that, I don't think Mysterio needs to be put into the ring with guys that are so much bigger than him and certainly not Big Show, who is the largest wrestler on the roster. Mysterio is small - we all know that, but when he has to wrestle against a 500lb giant who "wrestles" (I don't know if you'd want to call what Big Show does as wrestling) a totally different style, it exposes Mysterio's weaknesses and shortcomings. Either way, Big Show is no doubt the favorite to win this match because since he's a large man, he automatically will get numerous chances to main event and again, the word is that he may actually face Brock Lesnar as early as Judgment Day in May. Prediction: Big Show. And that'll wrap up this edition of the news and rumors. We'll be having live Backlash play-by-play later today starting at 8pm EST so if you can't watch the PPV, stop by to find out the results. A few of you have asked about the status of the column applications that we were accepting a few weeks back. We have a little over a hundred more emails to get through but hopefully within the next week or two, we'll be contacting whoever we feel would be a good addition to the site. So if you haven't heard anything from us yet, don't worry...no one has. Anyway, that's about it. Later. NEWS AND RUMORS, IF PAGE LOADED HERE, GO BACK TO TOP

First some News/Rumors for everyone (from most recent to oldest) Submitted by ----- on April 22, 2003 at 3:18 AM - Goldberg's contract is reported to expire shortly after next year's Wrestlemania. The plan right now for a Goldberg/HHH feud is to hold off on it until Summerslam with Triple H feuding with Kevin Nash until then. Goldberg would then probably feud with Chris Jericho. - Undertaker had elbow surgery on April 10 and will be out for about a month. Kurt Angle had neck surgery on April 11 and it was said to have gone well and he was out of the hospital two days later. - The Road Warriors have told indy promoters that they will be joining WWE shortly. The plan right now is to give them a tryout to see how they look and how the fans react and then go from there in regard to a decision on whether they should be brought back on TV. - WWE is considering adding a PPV to air on December 31, 2003. Source: Re-written from the Wrestling Observer Newsletter. Subscription information & prices available @ wrestlingobserver.com Submitted by ----- on April 22, 2003 at 3:10 AM - As reported before and even though there has been no public announcement of any sorts, Steve Austin's in-ring career could very well be over due to his neck problems. Austin is still scheduled to return to Raw within the next few weeks as a co-GM opposite Eric Bischoff. At this point, Austin has opted not to undergo any additional surgery because if he did, he would be off TV for several months even if he took no bumps. - More on Kurt Angle's injuries: he suffered his hamstring injury at Wrestlemania only 20 seconds into the match. Tests showed that it's the type of hamstring pull that is slowly healing and prone to re-occur. Angle also had an MRI done before Wrestlemania on his neck and the results showed a cyst in his thyroid which doctors originally feared were the early stages of cancer. However, additional tests have revealed that the cyst as "benign fluid buildup". - Jim Ross is expected to be off TV for at least a few more weeks. The tentative plan right now is for Steve Austin to come back as a co-GM along with Eric Bischoff and then to turn around and re-hire Ross. Jonathan Coachman will continue to fill in for Ross on Raw. Subscription information & prices available @ wrestlingobserver.com Submitted by Richard on April 21, 2003 at 5:26 PM The much talked about Sting/WWE deal seems like it has potential to happen sometime this summer. Sting recently told promoter Andrew McManus of the WWA (who he has been working for) that he cannot commit to dates beyond May. However, the deal with WWE needs to happen soon, as many say this will be Sting?s final chance to get a big money contract before his recognition completely runs out. Submitted by Richard on April 19, 2003 at 11:11 PM WWE.com has removed Tough Enough under the television section of the website and the official Tough Enough website has been taken down from the web. As to what this means is still unknown, many felt that Tough Enough would continue on with another season after the recent re-signing of head trainer Al Snow and WWE?s big interests in the show. However, we will have more on this as we receive further updates. Submitted by Richard on April 18, 2003 at 1:57 PM The following tidbit contains a major spoiler in the upcoming direction of a SmackDown storyline. To read it, please highlight below:
The current plan for the Mr. America angle is for it to be revealed as Hulk Hogan in disguise, which will be obvious once fans see him. This is how WWE will bring the ?suspended? Hogan back into the storylines.
Smackdown! Spoilers April 22, 2003 Nashville, TN Report by: Tony M., -------.com reader *SmackDown! Tapings*
Immediatley after the opening, John Cena's music hits to a big face pop, which soon turns to boos when Cena comes out. He gets on the mic and runs down Brock as well as the crowd. Rhyno's music soon interrupts to a nice pop and we are ready for out first match. John Cena defeated Rhyno via a roll up. Good, solid action from these two. Rhyno fought out of the DVD and went for the Gore, but Cena moved and rolled up Rhyno for the clean 1..2..3. Match lasted about 7 minutes. The F.B.I talked to Benoti about their bet with him over the outcome of his match with Cena. They tell him to pay up, but Benoit says he will pay..... in the ring. Chris Benoit defeated Nunzio in another good match. On his way to the ring, Benoit was attacked by Palumbo and Stamboli, allowing Nunzio to gain the advantage. Benoit eventually made Nunzio tap out to the Crossface after about 5 minutes. After the match F.B.I attacked again but Benoit fought them off, untill eventually the numbers were too big and the F.B.I beat the hell out of Benoit. Stephanie McMahon announced that Mr America would debut next week. Rey Mysterio defeated Crash Holly in another solid, yet a little quick match. Rey win after nailing the 619 and Springboard Leg Drop in a match that lasted about 4 or 5 minutes. Rikishi defeated Roddy Piper via dq. This match was pretty poor, but eventually Sean O'Haire ended it, running in and nailing a couple of superkicks and an Electric Chair on Kish. Shelton Benjamin defeated Chavo Guerrero in a very good 6 minute match, eventually ending when Shelton ~Cheats To Win~ with help from the ropes. After the match, Los Guerreros chase off Team Angle. Tajiri defeated Big Show via Count Out in a quick match. Tajiri all over Show early on, but Show ended up on offense and destroying Tajiri. Rey Mysterio then appeared in the crowd and Show gave chase, giving the win to Tajiri. Dawn Marie and Nidia defeated Torrie in a Sable Swimsuit Competition. Sable declared Dawn and Nidia co-winners, and the two then attacked Torrie. Backstage John Cena convinced A-Train to take out Brock. Brock Lesnar defeated A-Train via dq after John Cena interfered and laid out Brock with the chain and then the title belt. Cena then hit a DVD as SD! went off the air. This match lasted about 6 minutes or so. After the show ended, Brock gave Cena the F-5
- Nomad

Has anyone heard anything from Skrape? I got their CD, New Killer America, today from a friend and popped it in the CD player and I liked it so much I'm listening to it now. It's kinda like hard rock, but I can't really explain it. So has anyone heard and/or like Skrape?

SMACKDOWN SPOILERS {you wanna see the spoiler tags?... alright...} April 15, 2003 Norfolk, Virginia Report by:
(yeah I'm gonna tell ya_ - As usual, I missed any dark matches and/or any Velocity tapings that may have occured. If anyone can send us the results to these, it would be much appreciated. - Michael Cole & Tazz come out for commentary after which the American national anthem is sung. Tony Chimmel then welcomes the audience and tells everyone to cheer. - Rey Mysterio & Tajiri vs. A-Train & The Big Show. Mysterio & Tajiri put up a decent fight for much of the match, but they are basically overpowered in the end as Show and A-Train pick up the pinfall victory. After the match, A-Train tries to beat up Tajiri some more but gets the mist in the face. Big Show takes exception and goes after Tajiri so Mysterio hits the 619 and knocks Big Show down. Big Show gets angry and embarassed. - Backstage, Brock Lesnar arrives. - Backstage, Big Show is still mad at what happened, mainly the fact that everyone was laughing at him. He tells A-Train that he is going to go to Stephanie McMahon's office right now to ask for a match against Rey Mysterio. - Brock Lesnar Interview. Cole conducts the interview and congratulates Lesnar for his Wrestlemania 19 victory over Kurt Angle. They show footage of the finish of the match. Cole asks Brock how he felt after the match and Lesnar says he was feeling the pain. He landed on his head and is thankful for being here today. Lesnar says that when he first lost his title, he thought he'd get it back easily. But Angle pulled every trick in the book to keep the title away from him. That's why he knew he had to bring it. Kurt Angle kicked out of the F-5 twice and Brock says he knew he had to do something out of the ordinary to bring the title home. Brock talks about the concussion he suffered but says if he had the option of doing it again, he would. Cole then asks him about Angle, the former champion. Brock says Kurt is probably sitting at home watching after neck surgery but at Wrestlemania, Kurt took him to another level. He has the utmost respect for Angle, but before he can say anything else, John Cena's music hits. Cena comes out and says that Lesnar is disrespecting everyone by lying. He is nothing but a big liar. Cena says he watched the Wrestlemania footage 400 times and he didn't get a concussion. To get a concussion, you need a brain first. But anyway, here's to say that Wrestlemania is over and he better focus on the new big thing. At Backlash, he'll find out that John Cena is bigger than Brock Lesnar, bigger than these people and bigger than that WWE title. Before he can finish his thought, Chris Benoit's music hits and out he comes. Benoit says Cena has no idea about respect. Before you even think of facing Lesnar at Backlash, you better worry about going through the Wolverine, the best damn technical wrestler in the world. Benoit says that no one, not him not you, is bigger than the WWE title - you have to respect it even if you don't respect the man wearing it. Lesnar jumps in and asks Benoit if this means he doesn't respect him. Benoit says he never said that, unless you're saying you don't respect me. Cena says you both better show me some respect right now. Lesnar says let's all respect whoever wins tonight but Cena then cheapshots Benoit. - Eddie Guerrero (w/ Chavo) vs. Jamie Noble (w/ Nidia). Before the match gets underway, Team Angle comes out. Benjamin mocks the Guerreros' accent and Haas says that the Guerreros' grandmother is the best housekeeper money can buy. This basically allows Noble to gain the advantage for much of the beginning of the match. Nidia tries to interfere on Noble's behalf, but it doesn't help as Eddie hits the Frog Splash for the pinfall victory. - After the match, Guerrero addresses Team Angle saying the rumor is that they go down on each other all the time. Chavo says from what he hears, they give new meaning to the term "You Suck". Team Angle swarms the ring and all four men go at it and it's revealed that these two teams will go at it for the tag team titles at Backlash. - Backstage, Nathan Jones catches up to Nunzio and roughs him up, saying he set him up with the police. Nunzio pleads innocence, but Jones will have none of it. - They announce that Undertaker has undergone elbow surgery and will return in a couple of weeks. - Backstage, Sable meets up with Torrie says she was impressed with her Playboy but it wasn't as good as the real thing, as she saw first hand last week. She asks Torrie to help her with her zipper and then asks Torrie if she'd mind if she changed in here with her. Torrie says she can change wherever she likes, but right now she has a match to worry about. Sable wonders: "was it something I said?" - It is announced that at Backlash, Sean O'Haire (with Roddy Piper in his corner) will take on Rikishi. - Piper's Pit. Piper talks a bit about useless nothing before getting footage to roll where he hit Jimmy Snuka with a coconut. He says that for 20 years he has been taking on all comers and he's back to take on the rest. Piper's Pit is making friends...Rikishi, one big tough kid and he asks for footage from last week where O'Haire and Piper laid him out. Piper introduces Sean O'Haire and says that he needed someone tough to watch his back and help him take on the world. O'Haire says he's out here for one reason - Piper is a legend and it's an honor for him to stand here in this ring with him. For 25 years, Piper's been on top of this business. His style and intensity is unparalleled. He wants to learn from the only mind that might be more evil than his. Snuka's music hits and the Superfly comes out. Snuka says there is a problem here - Piper. Then he mumbles some more but I can't understand what he's trying to say. Piper suggests that they bury the hatchet. Piper tries to cheapshot Snuka, but can't so O'Haire helps. This prompts Rikishi to come out but Piper and O'Haire beat him out too and leave. Rikishi grabs a mic and basically says he'll beat O'Haire at Backlash and he challenges Piper to a match next week, which Roddy accepts later in the show. - Torrie Wilson vs. Nidia (w/ Jamie Noble). Sable ends up being the referee for the match. Torrie stares at Sable when she enters the ring, allowing Nidia to blindside her for the early advantage. Torrie gets some help from Sable to hit a DDT for the win and then dropkicks Noble for good measure. - Matt Hardy (w/ Shannon Moore) vs. Brian Kendrick. This match is for the Cruiserweight title. Matt hits the Twist of Fate but Kendrick gets his foot to the ropes, so several seconds later, with Shannon Moore distracting, Matt hits it again and grabs the pinfall victory. - Backstage, the Full Blooded Italians talk about something, presumably about Nunzio's upcoming match against Nathan Jones. - Nunzio vs. Nathan Jones. Match doesn't even last one minute as the other FBI members interfere. They triple team Jones and slam the steel steps on his ankle/leg area before leaving. - John Cena vs. Chris Benoit. Great match, split in the middle by a commercial break as expected. Benoit hits the German suplexes and then climbs to the top for the flying headbutt but Cena moves out of the way. Near fall results, but Benoit snaps on the Crippler Crossface, but Cena fights his way to the ropes. Benoit goes for the Crippler again, Cena counters and goes for the Death Valley Driver, but Benoit counters. Cena then sits on Benoits chest and hooks his legs for the pinfall victory to earn the title shot against Brock Lesnar at Backlash. - End of show.
SMACKDOWN! SPOLIERS April 8, 2003 Chicago, Illinois Report by:
(hehe not tellin)
Smackdown! Tapings: [Airdate - 4/10] - Michael Cole and Tazz come out for commentary. They announce that Brock Lesnar will fight Matt Hardy and that Piper's Pit will return to WWE after a 14 year absence all tonight. - Matt Hardy vs. Brock Lesnar. This is a champion vs. champion match, not title vs. title. Lesnar starts off the match with a huge clothesline but Matt uses his title to the back of Brock's head to turn the tide. Brock spends much of the match selling his "concussion" but he ends up hitting the F-5 for the pinfall victory. - We see clips from last week where Vince McMahon supposedly "killed" Hulkamania, saying it will die a death of leprosy, etc. etc. - Torrie Wilson & Brian Kendrick vs. Nidia & Jamie Noble. Sable comes down before the match and sits down for commentary. She flips through Torrie Wilson's Playboy and applauds Torrie when she comes out. Nidia and Noble double team quite a bit, but they have a little miscommunication problem which allows Torrie to hit a DDT for the pinfall. Sable acts impressed afterwards. - Backstage, Chris Benoit congratulates Brock Lesnar for his title win at Wrestlemania 19 but he says he's looking forward to facing him at Backlash. Rhyno comes up and says that it's going to be him facing Brock at Backlash. Lesnar tells them to go out tonight and beat the hell out of each other but come Backlash, one of them will have hell to pay. - Chris Benoit vs. Rhyno (Semi-final). Rhyno misses a Gore mid-match, while Benoit hits a pretty long flying headbutt which gets a near three count. Benoit ends up winning the match via a simple backslide. - Vince McMahon Interview. Vince says that it was just one week ago that he permanently terminated Hulkamania. As a matter of fact, he gave Hulkamania a lethal dose of leprosy. But he will honor his contract with Hogan - he will pay him every nickel of his contract to stay at home. By the time his WWE contract expires, Hogan will be so old he'll be confined to a wheelchair. But don't worry Hogan - Vince says he will make sure there is a reservoire below his wheelchair to collect his bodily fluid. Vince goes on to say that he looked on the shelf beside Hogan and decided to pull off another one of his creations - fourteen years later: Piper's Pit with Rowdy Roddy Piper. - Piper's Pit. Vince introduces himself as Piper's special guest this week. Piper says let's get one thing clear: nobody but nobody named Piper or Piper's Pit except him. Vince makes fun of Piper's belly saying the last time he saw a belly that big, Mae Young was nine months pregnant. Vince then asks Piper if he wants to join the Kiss My *** Club but then changes his mind. Piper then talks about Vince's failures - the bodybuilding federation, the XFL, etc. The only job Vince has been able to hold is the one his daddy gave him. Vince says that they have one thing common though - their dislike for Hogan. Roddy says that Vince did make Hulkamania, he created everything about you. Vince puts his arm around Piper so Roddy tells him to get his arm off him because he hates Vince too. McMahon calls Piper a son of a ***** so Piper says it takes one to know one. They end up shaking hands and Roddy says he hates Hogan too. Vince's music hits so Roddy asks for it to stop and says that even though Vince created Hulkamania, he did something that even Piper himself couldn't do - he got beat by Hogan 1-2-3. Rikishi then comes out with a coconut and asks him if it looks familiar. Since he was a little kid, he's remembered a lot of things. For 20 years, he remembers what he did to Jimmy "Superfly" Snuka. Piper says that's not between you and me, but Rikishi says he's one of his family members. As this going on, Sean O'Haire comes from behind and clotheslines Rikishi. He uses a chair to Rikishi's gut and back area, laying him out. Piper then says "you wanna be like Snuka" and then smashes the coconut over Rikishi's head just like he did to Snuka 20 years ago. - They show the promo for the two French-Canadiens that aired on Raw. Sylvain Grenier and Rene Dupree, I think? - Team Angle vs. Tajiri & Rey Mysterio. I guess this is not for the title. Before the match, they say they will dedicate this match to Kurt Angle, who will be undergoing neck surgery tomorrow. They demand the fans to lower their heads but get booed so they make fun of Cubs inability to win the World Series for some more heel heat. Apparently, Tajiri picked Mysterio as his partner because Funaki was injured last week at the hands of Haas & Benjamin. Mysterio hits a legdrop on Haas to pick up the pinfall victory. - Backstage, Josh Mathews interviews Undertaker about John Cena's comments last week. Taker talks about being respected and says that he has more showertime than John Cena has ring time. He promises to beat up John Cena tonight, saying he'll find out why his mouth shouldn't write checks that his *** can't cash. - Nathan Jones vs. Bill DeMott. This is obviously Jones' in-ring debut (at least on TV). Match was quick and pretty standard with Jones pinning DeMott after a boot to the face. - Backstage, the FBI talk to the police about some of their items that have gone missing. They say they have a pretty good idea who might have done this but don't say anything. - Backstage, Sable knocks on Torrie's dressing room. Torrie says she's in the shower, so Sable says it's okay, it's just her. She congratulates her on the match and on her Playboy, which is apparently selling almost as fast as hers. Torrie asks Sable if she's seen her towel and Sable says yes "right here" and tells her to come and get it. - Backstage, the cops arrest Nathan Jones saying they need to take him in for questioning. Undertaker comes up and snaps, saying that Jones has already paid his debt to society. The officer says that Jones isn't under arrrest - they just want to ask him some questions. - John Cena vs. Undertaker (Semi-final). Cena cuts another one his promos before the match, basically saying he'll beat Undertaker. Taker almost pins Cena with a chokeslam about halfway through but Cena gets his foot on the ropes. Soon after this, they cut to a commercial. Cena then uses the chain on Taker before going to work on his injured elbow on the outside. Cena tells the ref to count Taker out and continues to keep him out of the ring when he tries to get back in. The ref ends up getting bumped by Taker so Cena goes for the Death Valley Driver but it's countered into the Last Ride. With the ref still out, the FBI comes down and attacks Undertaker. Palumbo hits Taker with a steel chair and they continue to beat him up as Jones isn't here due to being taken out of the building earlier in the night. As the ref comes to, Cena crawls on Undertaker and gets the win and advances to the finals against Chris Benoit next week. - End of show.

that was News & Rumors written every weekend by a site I goto, and here's some info on kevin nash (listed from oldest to newest) Submitted on March 30, 2003 at 7:21 PM Word has it that Kevin Nash may make some sort of appearance at WrestleMania tonight as ?Diesel?. That?s not yet confirmed, but that is the word. Submitted on March 31, 2003 at 4:31 AM - Kevin Nash actually is the one who suggested that he come back as Diesel, saying that he has had no luck lately wrestling as Kevin Nash. There's also a thought that he wanted to come back as Diesel because he knows it's a Vince McMahon creation and thus, gives him the best shot at a meaningful role on WWE TV. For what it's worth, he is expected to return on Raw tonight 3/31 but plans are not totally set in stone. Submitted on March 31, 2003 at 4:11 PM He talked a little bit about Kevin Nash?s return to WWE as Diesel. It appears as if that is the current plan, as Nash has apparently dyed his hair back to jet black to play the character. Submitted on March 31, 2003 at 4:36 PM More on Kevin Nash, as he was backstage last night at WrestleMania and was telling everyone that he is coming back on top as Big Daddy Cool Diesel.

I didn't write these. News and Rumors for Sunday, March 30 Hey everyone, welcome back to the often imitated, never duplicated news and rumors report here at r-------.com written up by yours truly. Wrestlemania 19, the so called grand daddy of all them all, takes place later today and naturally, all eyes will be on the PPV to see what happens, what doesn't, who wins, who loses and who debuts. The following report will basically be my own little preview and predictions of the event with ideas and thoughts on what I think could happen. I'm far from successful when it comes to predicting PPV results, but I'll try to lay out various scenarios with one of them hopefully materializing. Anyway, nothing more to say here in the intro so away we go... Chief Morely & Lance Storm vs. Rob Van Dam & Kane - As announced on Smackdown!, this match has been moved to Sunday Night Heat for reasons which are still unclear, though some reports state that WWE simply was worried that they wouldn't have enough time to fit in all the matches and just picked this tag team one since it had the least background to it and because it probably has the least effect on storylines. It's a bit disappointing to many fans as RVD and Kane are among the more popular wrestlers out there, but at least they actually have a match unlike other superstars. I could see a couple things happening here - the first would be to see interference from the Dudley Boyz since they are now part of the "Bischoff Administration", leading to a win for Morely and Storm. I would assume then from there, the Dudleys would somehow end up winning the titles later on down the road, whether it be via a full face turn or not. The other thing that could happen is that Kane & RVD actually win the titles on Heat and then Morely, enraged that he's lost the belts, books the two to face the Dudley Boyz later on in the show. If this happens, it would at least explain why they moved the match from the PPV to Heat in the first place. Even though I like this second scenario better, I'm inclined to go with the heels as there may still be plans for an RVD/Kane feud in the near future. Prediction: Lance Storm & Chief Morely. Undertaker & Nathan Jones vs. Big Show & A-Train - Let's get one thing straight right now: this match won't be pretty in the least. If you think Big Show and A-Train are awful wrestlers, live reports have indicated that Nathan Jones is much worse with many analysts and even WWE officials stating that he is simply not ready to be wrestling full-time or even part-time and certainly not at Wrestlemania 19, where 50,000 will be watching and scrutinizing his every move. I think there's a lot of credence to this claim as it's probably not a coincidence that Jones hasn't wrestled on TV yet or why WWE portrays his character as this beginner who really has no idea what he's doing. Let's just say that he's inexperienced and it shows. The match itself is interesting in that the major underlying plot is that between Undertaker and Jones as the long-term plan is no doubt to have them split by virtue of a disagreement leading to a feud and a PPV match or two later this year. On that note, it's possible that Jones could "screw up" in the match and somehow either inadvertently hit Undertaker or cost the two the match with a blunder or miscue or whatever. As much as I want to list this as my official prediction, I can't see Undertaker losing at Wrestlemania 19 as I have heard that backstage, he's quite "protective" of his streak and always angles his annual matches at the PPV to work in his favor. Of course on the flip side if Jones costs him the match and his undefeated streak, then it does give the angle more ammunition and a reason for the two to feud with each other but because WWE hasn't really referenced Taker's streak all that much, I don't think this is the route they are going. So I'll say Jones and Taker manage to co-exist for their first match and this already stretched out storyline will seap into the spring and possibly summer months. Prediction: Undertaker & Nathan Jones. Victoria vs. Trish Stratus vs. Jazz - You know, normally I'd come out and say that I think Jazz would be the favorite to win this match. She just returned from an injury, she's a "fresh face" in the women's division (relatively speaking) and WWE is trying their hardest to portray her as this psychotic and vicious woman who can and will easily hurt her opponents for her own satisfaction and self-interests. But the one thing that hasn't worked is that Jazz still is drawing virtually no reaction as it seems the majority of fans couldn't care less about how much of a self-proclaimed ***** she is. Victoria, on the other hand, has done a serviceable job as WWE women's champion but she's been running out of steam a little with her title reign being much longer than anyone expected. On top of that, Victoria is wrestling through what could be a potentially serious knee surgery so there is some question as to if she will need time off in the future to take care of that. And finally, Trish Stratus remains relatively over compared to her counterparts and has recently been thrusted in what seems like a romance type angle with Jeff Hardy. The way I look at it, I don't think many fans in attendance would care if Jazz or Victoria wins so by default, I'll say WWE caters to the audience and lets Trish Stratus win. On more note - I'm not sure when exactly she's due back from neck surgery, but Lita should be getting pretty close to returning and I think her involvement in the women's division is much needed just to keep things moving forward. Prediction: Trish Stratus. Matt Hardy vs. Rey Mysterio - This one has been building for a few weeks now and should deliver a nice little match as both guys are strong on the wrestling skills side of things and have strong characters to boot. I wasn't a big Matt Hardy fan when he was part of the Hardy Boyz tag team but since he moved to Smackdown! and was allowed to run with his "Mattitude" gimmick, my opinion changed and I found myself genuinely liking his work and interviews. Mysterio has been fantastic since making his debut last year, working great matches and getting over despite his lack of size. Taking everything into account, this match is surely Mysterio's to win as he's been rumored to be joining the Cruiserweight division ever since he entered the company but until now has stayed away from said division, instead mixing with the big boys and even the main eventers. Even though it's a stretch to believe that WWE will actually dedicate time and effort in finally making this division work, it doesn't change the fact that Mysterio is ready to hold his first singles title and that alone will at least help stabilize the division. As for this match's specifics, Shannon Moore could get involved but I think we'll see Mysterio pull out a clean victory. This probably won't happen but if WWE wants to get creative and have this feud extend longer or even to keep Hardy's momentum going they could have him win the match and then somehow strip him or reverse the decision if it is later found that he is actually a pound or two above the division's weight limit...especially when you consider how much they concentrated on this aspect of the storyline this month and last. Prediction: Rey Mysterio. Shawn Michaels vs. Chris Jericho - WWE has taken their sweet *** time with this feud, spreading it over much of 2003 and building towards this one Wrestlemania 19 though indications are that the problems between these two may not be settled here. Part of the reason for the slow approach is Shawn Michaels' status as a "part-time" wrestler, more specifically that he only wrestles at selected TV and PPV events adding up to maybe a dozen times per year. That's fine and dandy with me because in the meanwhile, it allowed Jericho to showcase his skills as a versatile and multi-faceted performer as he carried simultaenous feuds with both Test and Jeff Hardy. Michaels for his part has been involved in many big Wrestlemania matches and for the most part he has enjoyed considerable success. Jericho, unfortunately, hasn't and most recently he actually lost his undispusted title to Triple H, being inexcusably overshadowed in the whole program by both Trips and his "wife" at the time, Stephanie McMahon. Maybe it's just the optimist in me, but I truly feel like this is Jericho's year, at least at Wrestlemania. There's no telling how many more matches Shawn Michaels has left in him and I really can't understand what it would accomplish by having him defeat Jericho. If Jericho wins though, not only would it give him a huge boost in arguably the biggest match of his career, but it could easily set up a rematch at the Backlash PPV, which as I mentioned above could most certainly happen. I'll go with Jericho winning. Prediction: Chris Jericho. Team Angle vs. Chris Benoit & Rhyno vs. Los Guerreros - Another intriguing match on the Wrestlemania card and perhaps one that will live up to its hype in the ring in terms of the quality of match. Let's take a quick look at each of the three teams - Team Angle consists up-and-coming youngsters Charlie Haas and Shelton Benjamin, both of whom have not only generated a lot of momentum in recent weeks but are doing a splendid job as tag team champions. They are a prototypical heel tag team and are loosely aligned with Paul Heyman giving them some strong backup should they need it. With Kurt Angle taking time off after Wrestlemania, Team Angle will continue but it remains to be seen if they will keep assuming the same name. If they lose their tag team titles at the exact same time Angle leaves (and consequently loses his title), it could end up being disastrous to their marketability as they really would have nothing to convey them as serious tag teams or guys to be reckoned with. Meanwhile, Chris Benoit & Rhyno make up a tag team that I consider a temporary tandem in that WWE just found two established singles wrestlers and just stuck them together instead of figuring out individual storylines for each. Rhyno and Benoit are both too valuable to waste in the tag team division so I don't see this arrangement lasting too long, and in fact, it wouldn't be the least bit surprising to see them go the same route as RVD & Kane as their situation seems quite similar. And finally, Los Guerreros seem like they are always there and are sort of the "middle team" in the triple threat, as they can play both the heel or face role with equal effectiveness. If they win the titles, I'm not sure the audience will know whether to cheer or heel but I guess it will depend on who they pin. In the end, I think it's a moot point as I look for Team Angle to retain. Prediction: Team Angle. Triple H vs. Booker T - I have mixed feelings on this match. On one hand, I'm happy to see WWE attempt to push Booker To the level of a Triple H, an Austin or a Rock by having him actually wrestle for a title at the PPV but on the flip side, anyone who has followed WWE for any considerable length of time probably knows that it's all building up to Booker T jobbing to Triple H - whether it be at Wrestlemania or sometime soon thereafter. The fact that Booker pinned Triple H last week on Raw (albeit in a tag team match) is basically the writing on the wall, as it's very unlikely for Triple H to give someone not named Austin, Rock or Undertaker two straight pinfall victories over him and that's not even taking into account that this match is at Wrestlemania. Now that I have all but conceded a Triple H victory, my only hope is that they do it in a fashion where Booker T comes off looking strong...well not strong, because that's kind of an oxymoron - but not looking weak if you know what I mean. I don't want to see Triple H kick the crap out of Booker and then casually hit the Pedigree for the 1-2-3 in the center of the ring. If there's ever a match I want to see a DQ ending or some sort of screwjob with interference from any outside party, this is it. So I'll just say go on that and say that Ric Flair helps Triple H win the match. Of course, I'd still love to be proven wrong. Prediction: Triple H will retain. Kurt Angle vs. Brock Lesnar - A few weeks ago, this was probably the most anticipated match on the card as it would be the first ever prowrestling match between these two former amateur wrestlers. Furthermore, the foundations for this match had been set ever since Brock made his debut on WWE TV and since then, the company had done a great job keeping these two apart. Unfortunately, things don't always go as planned and along the way, Kurt Angle re-aggravated a serious neck injury which will require surgery within the next few weeks, all but giving away the result to the match and preventing the two from going all-out and giving the audience a match that only they could deliver. Don't get me wrong though - this will probably still be a great match, likely one of the better ones on the card, but Angle is wrestling with practically a broken neck and even though he will still try to compete "normally", he won't be the same and Brock won't be the same knowing Kurt's condition on the other side. WWE has taken steps to reduce expectations in the fans' eye and to steer Angle and Lesnar into a less dangerous match by selling an injury to Brock that occured at the last two Smackdown! tapings. This will apparently be used to explain why the match will be primarily mat-based even though fans will probably anticipate high flying moves, German suplexes and the like. The really sad thing about this match that many people don't realize is that it could very well be Angle's last match and on Smackdown!, Angle cut an almost shoot interview where he talked about giving it all and possible retirement and what not. His neck injury is so serious that there's always a chance that he just won't be able to make it back and according to backstage reports, that is precisely the reason he wanted to go ahead with the Wrestlemania match - he wants to leave on his terms, working at the biggest PPV of the year and working a great match, even by his standards. Whether you love him or hate him, I hope you all watch Angle wrestle this Sunday and think about the unbelievable risk he is putting himself through just to entertain us, the fans. Now that's a professional. Prediction: Brock Lesnar. Steve Austin vs. The Rock - Austin vs. Rock, Wrestlemania part three takes place as probably one of the co-main events with the Rock looking to snatch his first win over Austin at the annual extravaganza. Both wrestlers have just recently returned from their respective hiatus from the company, Austin walking out after he disagreed with the direction of the company and Rock absent due to the filming of one of his many movies. Austin is expected to stick around for the forseeable future and work more or less a full-time schedule, including some house shows, all TVs and all PPVs. Rock's status is uncertain as he will definitely be gone by summer but could stick around until then depending on certain circumstances. With Goldberg now signed with WWE, there's a great chance that Rock will end up feuding with him as originally planned and it would make sense as Rock would be the heel (as he already is) and Goldberg would naturally come in as the big babyface. Where this puts Austin is unknown, but he could either go onto to feud with Triple H or even move to the Smackdown! brand if need be. As for the match itself, as strange as this sounds with Austin just back and Rock possibly leaving again, I think Rock needs the win more. He'll have Eric Bischoff, Chief Morely and gang unofficially on his side and if Rock wins, this is a good way for it to happen. From there, Goldberg could debut on Raw and step up to take on Rock while Austin could go in either of the directions I already mentioned. Prediction: The Rock. Vince McMahon vs. Hulk Hogan - Would you believe it but this match may actually be the main event and will be given 25 minutes of air-time according to internet reports. All I can say is wow. I mean yes, it's a great historical type of match, but seriously, not too many fans today find it THAT interesting as it's several years too late. If Vince and Hogan have so many issues with each other, why wait this long to let everyone know about it? I mean jeez, Vince brought in Hogan to poison the then WWF a year ago! This match is also between two guys around 50 years old with little wrestling ability and smartly, WWE has decided to make it a "street fight match", basically to hide the fact that neither guy can wrestle. There's also the retirement stipulation which suggests that if Vince McMahon wins the match, Hulk Hogan has to retire from wrestling forever. I don't see that happening, especially since Hogan just returned to WWE. Don't think he'd agree to come back for two matches, including a job to McMahon leading to his "retirement". However, this is not to say that Hogan will still wrestle on WWE TV. With this being Wrestlemania where it all began so to speak, Hogan could very well defeat McMahon and then just sort of ride off into the sunset (sort of like how we all wished Bret Hart's career would end!). Either way, I see Hogan going over because it gives WWE the most flexibility going forward. Prediction: Hulk Hogan. That's it for the Wrestlemania 19 matches, but with it being a four hour spectacle, there's probably going to be lots of other goodies sprinkled in to make the event feel extra special. In case ayone is wondering about Goldberg, it is not expected that he will actually appear at the PPV, though it's not out of the question for the commentators or wrestlers or whomever to subtly hint at his arrival. The plan as of now is for Goldberg to appear at Raw the next night at which time, I presume they will get him started on a storyline with the Rock or possibly Triple H. Unlike Goldberg, someone who could very well show up at Wrestlemania is Kevin Nash. Even though he has yet to be cleared to officially wrestle (at least from what I know), there have been rumors of him making some sort of an appearance at the show to jumpstart a future angle. If he does show up, it's a good bet that he'll get involved in either the Triple H or Shawn Michaels match as anywhere else really wouldn't make sense. And finally, there's the usual group of celebrities that always show up at Wrestlemania. WWE has already planned segments with the Miller Lite Catfight Girls, Limp Bizkit, and Ashanti, who will sing "American the Beautiful" at the beginning of the show. Rapper Fabolous, who was supposed to square off against John Cena in a "rap-off" has reportedly dropped out of the event so I'm not sure what they'll do with Cena now.

Velocity & SmackDown! SPOILERS WARNING: SPOILERS INCLUDED Tuesday March 25th, 2003, San Jose California Dark Matches: Sean O'Haire vs. Jobber Sean O'Haire basically put on a bunch of power moves in this matchup, several clotheslines, and kicks as well. Speaking of kicks, O'Haire went for a Spinning Heel Kick on the jobber but the no namer fell the wrong way, completely missing the spot. He still sold it though, it just looked really funny. Winner: Sean O'Haire via pinfall Kanyon vs. Local Guy Kanyon got a decent pop from the crowd until he started pointing and garnering heel heat. He got it pretty decently and got some heel heat for a good dark match to say the least. There was some good offense put on by the Local Guy, but Kanyon came out on top as usual. Winner: Kanyon via pinfall Velocity Tapings Jamie Noble vs. Funaki This was a pretty good match in my opinion. There were a bunch of great spots in this matchup and nothing looked botched at all. The middle kind of dragged on a bit, but Smackdown's #1 Announca ended up getting the pinfall victory here on Jamie Noble with what looked to be some sort of inverted DDT off the top rope. Winner: Funaki via pinfall Bill DeMott vs. Weekly Jobber I have no idea what the point of this match was. Bill DeMott came down and just gave this jobber two hard clotheslines and the match was ended via knockout I suppose. Bill DeMott althought the supposed heel in the match ended up getting a huge pop after power-bombing the jobber post-match. The post-match confrontation with him and the refs lasted longer than the entire match itself. I don't know if the jobber just gave up or what. But this match was no good. Winner: Bill DeMott via knockout Tajiri vs. Johnny Stamboli w/Nunzio I liked this match a lot. Tajiri was very comedic as after he sent Stamboli over the top rope he did a little flick under the chin thing which made the crowd laugh a lot. Tajiri locked in the tarantula which was awesome to see on Stamboli as well. This match was pretty much Tajiri with a few power moves by Stamboli and interference from Nunzio. Stamboli picked up the victory with a power slam of some sorts. Winner: Johnny Stamboli via pinfall Onto Smackdown! we go... Rey Mysterio & Brian Kendrick vs. Matt Hardy & Shannon Moore This match was by far the best match of the evening hands down. It showcased what the cruiserweights are about and Matt Hardy ended up picking up the clean victory when he hit a Twist of Fate on Kendrick. There was good offense put on by all members of the match. Post-Match, Mysterio ambushed the ring and ended up hitting the 619 on Shannon Moore and the West Coast Pop as well. Matt Hardy ended up having the last word though by hitting not one, but two Twist of Fates on Rey Mysterio. Winners: Matt Hardy & Shannon Moore via pinfall We saw Hogan on the screen and the fans popped huge seeing him walk through the backstage area, and guess who was with him? None other than the mouth from the south, Jimmy Hart! Charlie Haas w/ Shelton Benjamin vs. Eddie Guerrero w/Chavo This was a good match all around. A strong Eddie chant was made at the beginning of the match. I don't know if Eddie was selling an arm injury of sorts during the match but he held his left arm for most of it. I think he was legitimately hurt as he didn't end up winning with his trademark Frog Splash, just a unique roll-up so to speak. I hope this doesn't effect the match this Sunday at Wrestlemania at all. Either that or I'm a complete fool. Winner: Eddie Guerrero via pinfall Kurt Angle comes on screen and asks to where Brock Lesnar's locker room is. End of Segment We see a shot of the next match coming up and it's Nathan Jones making his debut against Chuck Palumbo We come back to find the Undertaker on the screen and he finds Nathan Jones who opens up a door to a locker room to find Chuck Palumbo on the floor. I guess we won't be seeing Nathan Jones' debut tonight. I feel so cheated... Torrie Wilson package plays promoting her Playboy shoot. She is HOT! HOT! HOT! Afterwards Nidia comes on with Jamie Noble and complains about her not being on Playboy. It ends up being a bit humorous as Noble gets slapped for oogling over a poster of the Playboy Cover with Torrie Wilson. It sets up the match between the two coming up next. Torrie Wilson vs. Nidia w/Jamie Noble Torrie Wilson picked up the victory in a short and sweet match. There were a few wicked bumps in this match. But this was all simply filler to promote that magazine of hers. At least it was short. Winner: Torrie Wilson via pinfall Backstage we see Nathan Jones being confronted by his opponents at Wrestlemania, A-Train and Big Show. Big Show and A-Train just look at Jones and say that he won't do anything without Taker around. End of segment. Big Show & A-Train vs. Chris Benoit & Rhyno Chris Benoit applied his technical style to carry Big Show who simply lugged around the ring and threw Benoit throughout the course of the match. A-Train got the usual shave your back chants. Benoit shined in this match. Rhyno got in the usual moves as well, the gore and what not. When things were looking pretty gloomy from the ramp comes Nathan Jones who enters the ring and punches Big Show and A-Train back and forth, back and forth, back and forth about 5 or 6 times. It was pretty ridiculous and then finally Big Show took him out which was a nice change of pace. Then came out Undertaker to save the day completely and clean house. Jones and Taker stood in the ring after all was said and done and got some pops, mostly meant for Taker. They stood at the top of the ramp and both lifted their fists up for another pop. Winners: Big Show & A-Train via DQ We see another Hogan/McMahon video. I'm not going to go through all of them since they pretty much aired in between every single match, but this one had footage from last week's assault by Vince McMahon on Hogan. Big Bad Voodoo Child plays and out comes Hogan to a thunderous ovation. It was by far the loudest pop anyone got in the entire evening. He gave a pretty good promo concerning the match at Wrestlemania. I'm glad he made an appearance because it was my own way of saying Thank You to Hogan, that's for sure. Hogan's first words, "You're Damn right Vince McMahon fears Hulk Hogan". The other humorous line from the promo was, "Vince McMahon might be a genius, but he's an EVIL damn genius". The way Hogan said it was classic. I think Smackdown needed more mic work on the evening, just my opinion. After this there was a package that listed all the matches scheduled for Wrestlemania. There had been some speculation about whether or not Chief Morley is taking the place of William Regal at Wrestlemania or what effect it had, in the package it had Kane and RVD taking on Chief Morley and Lance Storm for the Tag Titles, so that clears up any confusion there. Shelton Benjamin w/Charlie Haas vs. Chavo Guerrero This was another decent match. Both men got a good amount of action in, but it was another roll-up victory for Los Guerreros in the evening. The crowd was pretty silent for most of this match with a slight Chavo chant being heard. Afterwards with Los Guerreros celebrating in the ring, Team Angle came from behind with their belts and clocked both Eddie and Chavo. Then came Benoit and Rhyno out to ringside to clean shop and get rid of Team Angle. Benoit and Rhyno were the last ones left in the ring. Winner: Chavo Guerrero via pinfall Backstage we had Kurt Angle finally making his way to Brock Lesnar's locker room and there was a bit of a mutual confrontation going on. I could hear most of it, unfortunately the fans just wanted to chant WHAT! after every single phrase Kurt said which sucked royally. It was a bit eerie with the foreshadowing Kurt Angle made. He said something along the lines of, "If you end my career at Wrestlemania, Brock, then to me, it doesn't matter, because I've done it all in this business." To the casual fan I guess that didn't seem like much but to me it did. Kurt I hope you know what you're doing at Wrestlemania. Main Event John Cena vs. Rikishi Cena came out to his hip-hop thugonomics music and got a mixed reaction from the crowd, all the while as Rikishi made his entrance, he got a huge pop. The fans popped again for the Stink Face on John Cena, Lord why I have no clue. John Cena ended up getting the victory after he CLEANLY lifted Rikishi on his shoulders, held him there and slammed him from his shoulders down to the mat. John Cena wins via the Death Valley Driver Winner: John Cena via pinfall Post-Match John Cena called out Brock Lesnar and demanded that he come out to the ring. John Cena ends up leaving the ring to go looking for Brock, and seemingly we come from a commercial break. Cena ends up coming back out to ringside in a matter of 15 seconds. Good searching there for Brock. He ends up saying that he's gonna wait now since he's been informed that Brock is making his way to the ring. He then says he didn't know that Brock sucked as much as San Jose. MAJOR HEAT from the crowd. Brock's music hits and he gets a loud pop from the crowd, second to Hogan's. He makes his way to the ring and stares down Cena, who looks like a Cruiserweight compared to Lesnar. Cena and Lesnar have their verbal exchange until Cena spits in the face, which prompts an assault on Cena by Lesnar and Brock ends up hitting the F5 on Cena. End Of Show

sure i'll join stayn on topic.... - The original plan in regard to the title match at Wrestlemania 19 was for Chris Benoit to take Kurt Angle's place. The only disagreements internally were whether to have it as a face vs. face match or to turn Benoit heel by aligning him with Paul Heyman. The latter scenario would have seen Benoit injure Angle and then for Team Angle to back up Benoit and change into Team Benoit. Benoit would also have been revealed as the unknown wrestler who injured Edge. Though this is a moot point, reportedly, Vince McMahon favored keeping Benoit face. - Representatives of both Goldberg and WWE have stated that the two sides are very close on a deal. Goldberg was sent a contract before No Way Out and since then the two sides have been working through it to mutually modify it. In terms of salary, that is settled and the only stumbling blocks remaining are dates and creative but they aren't too far apart on those. If Goldberg does come to an agreement with WWE, it is expected that he will debut very soon after his signing. - WWE will be putting out a Steve Austin autobiography in the near future as ideas for it have just recently begun. Tapings: [Airdate - 3/20] - Michael Cole and Tazz come down for ringside commentary. They also air renditions of "America the Beautiful" before the Smackdown! opening hits, including a quick recap of the incidents last week where Kurt Angle snuck out a victory over Brock Lesnar. - Charlie Haas vs. Rhyno. Shelton Benjamin accompanies Haas and Chris Benoit accompanies Rhyno. These four, along with Los Guerreros will face off in a triple threat match for the tag team titles at Wrestlemania 19. Benjamin uses every opportunity possible to try and interfere so Benoit chases him around for a bit. Haas works over the knee of Rhyno for several minutes. Rhyno fights out and tries for the Gore, but Benjamin hauls him down drawing Benoit in. Rhyno wins when Haas ends up using the title belt, causing a disqualification win. - Backstage, Stephanie tells Brian Kendrick that she was disappointed to find out he was The Penguin. Every week he defies her authority. Doesn't he understand that he's a liability, that he's not a part of the Smackdown! roster. Kendrick says he thought by beating Matt Hardy he would impress her but he says he's sorry. Stephanie says that she didn't call him in here to yell at him. Tonight, she will offer him an opportunity. He will get a Smackdown! contract if he beats Shannon Moore tonight. Kendrick thanks Stephanie for the opportunity. - Another John Cena promo airs. Says that he has an open challenge at Wrestlemania 19 to outrap anyone. And then after that he has eyes set on The Next Big Thing. He also reveals that next week he will return to Smackdown! and warns Brock that payback is a *****. - Another Los Guerreros promo is shown. They offer to play golf with a couple other people and place a little wager. As expected, the Guerreros cheat to win. - Rikishi, Eddie & Chavo Guerrero vs. Chuck Palumbo, Johnny Stamboli & Nunzio. FBI double and triple team Chavo on a number of occasions, isolating him in their half of the ring. Chavo finally ends up tagging out to Eddie who tags out to Rikishi who cleans house and then tags Eddie back in. Eddie hits the Frog Splash on Palumbo and gets the pinfall victory. - Backstage, we see Hulk Hogan who is getting ready to sign a contract later tonight to wrestle Vince at Wrestlemania. - Rey Mysterio vs. Jamie Noble. Noble has Mysterio has in trouble for much of the match but at one point Nidia interferes and Mysterio takes her out with a pescado. Noble gets angry and tries a Tiger Bomb which is countered. Mysterio then hits the 619 and the West Coast Pop and pins Noble. Match went about six minutes. - Backstage, Kurt Angle tries to pump up his brother Eric Angle, saying they're going to stand up to Brock Lesnar, etc. etc. Cole can't get over how much the two look alike, saying they are almost like twins. - Team Angle Interview. Eric is selling his injuries from last week at the hands of Brock Lesnar by walking around in crutches. Kurt says well, well, well, look who's still the WWE champion. When Stephanie forced him to face Brock, he admits that he was nervous but only for a second. Then he remembered that not only is he the greatest athlete this business has ever seen, but he's also the smartest. Intensity, integrity and intelligence and don't you people forget that. He says Eric withstood Brock's onslaught, allowing him to beat Brock 1-2-3. Kurt tells Eric that he's the best brother a guy can have - he loves him. And not like the people in Kentucky like their families, not in that way you sickos. Kurt tells Eric again that he loves him and Eric responds by saying that "Mom was right - you don't suck". Kurt asks Brock if he's happy. He just injured an innocent man and nobody but nobody lays a hand on his brother. Kurt promises that this will never ever happen again. And Brock Lesnar, you say you're the next big thing. You're not the next big thing, you're the next big sore loser. You can't beat me so you take your anger out on my brother Eric you big loser! Kurt tells Brock that he's an embarassment and a disgrace to amateur and professional wrestling alike. He only has one more thing to say - I'm the champion and you're not. Oh and another thing, Kurt demands an apology for what he did to Eric last week. What you do to one Angle, you do to all Angles. He demands that Brock come down and apologize right now, face-to-face. Instead, Stephanie McMahon's music hits and out she comes. Stephanie says she's the one who's sorry - because not only does he still have to defend his title at Wrestlemania, but should he try to get counted out or disqualified, he will forfeit his WWE title. She says it's not a punishment, it's like a reward. She says that Kurt and Brock are two of the finest athletes around and they owe it to the fans to give the best damn Wrestlemania match they can. Kurt says he can accept it but he won't do it for this people; he'll do it for himself. He says he won an Olympic gold medal with a broken neck and he can surely beat Lesnar one more time. But he says he's not going anywhere until Brock Lesnar comes out and apologizes. Stephanie says then fine, have it your way and on cue, Brock comes out. Kurt throws Eric in front of Brock. Brock then gets low-blowed and then hit with a crutch in the neck. Kurt then brings in a chair and hits an Angle Slam on it. - Undertaker vs. Bill DeMott. Standard match with much of what you'd expect from these two. Taker ends up hitting a chokeslam near the end and then follows it up by hitting the Tombstone piledriver for the victory. - Backstage, doctors evaluate Brock Lesnar's condition. They fear that he has broken ribs, the same injury he suffered last year around the Survivor Series I believe. - Shannon Moore vs. Brian Kendrick. Matt Hardy is alongside Moore for this match. Hardy at one point slams Kendrick into the steel steps, but Kendrick ends up kicking out. This prompts Mysterio to come out to even up the sides. Moore gets distracted by this and Kendrick ends up pinning him for the win. Kendrick now has a job on the Smackdown! roster. - They show a clip of the Miller Light Cat Fight girls and announce that they will be appearing at Wrestlemania 19. - Chris Benoit vs. Shelton Benjamin. Haas and Rhyno are both ringside. Benoit gets the Crossface on Benjamin so Charlie Haas tries to interfere, but Rhyno delivers a Gore. Benjamin can't escape and is forced to tap out, giving Benoit the victory. - Mean Gene Okerlund gets into the ring and talks about Hulk Hogan and Vince McMahon, saying without these two, there would be no Wrestlemania. Tonight, they will sign their contracts for their match at the PPV, one that is 20 years in the making. Hogan is introduced first and the announcers re-iterate that if Hogan loses, he will have to retire from wrestling. Hogan chants engulf the arena so Okerlund says let's get on with business. Hogan interrupts him and says that these Hulkamaniacs are unbelievable so they start chanting his name again. Hogan finally starts talking and says that he understands what this contract means, but there's no way in hell he's going to let Hulkamania die. Vince McMahon had the audacity to come out here and says that made Hulkamania, but as God as his witness, he is dead-*** wrong. Hogan says that as he stands before everyone, as he lives and breathes, the fans made Vince McMahon. But instead of standing out here all night long, why don't we get Vince out here right now and get this contract done. Vince's music hits but McMahon sneaks up behind Hogan hits him with a steel chair. He nails Hogan several times and then hits him with a shot to the head, busting Hogan open. Vince signs the contract and then makes Hogan sign the contract in his own blood. - End of show.

Smackdown! March 4, 2003 Bridgeport, Connecticut - Tajiri vs. Rey Mysterio vs. Jamie Noble. The winner of this match would get a title shot at the Cruiserweight championship at Wrestlemania 19. They also announce during this match that Matt Hardy will face Billy Kidman later tonight so I suppose the two winners will face off at the PPV. Rey Mysterio ends up pinning Tajiri to become the #1 contender. - They announce that Vince McMahon and Hulk Hogan will both be here tonight, the first time they will be face-to-face since the "screwjob" at No Way Out. - Los Guerreros vs. Chuck Palumbo & Johnny Stamboli. Of course, Nunzio came down with Palumbo and Stamboli but Rikishi was absent due to some PR duty that he had to cover. The Guerreros end up winning after Eddie hits a frog splash and Chavo, the legal man, makes the pin. After the match, the FBI, showing their strength in numbers, beat up Eddie and Chavo. - Backstage, Paul Heyman ponders what he did to deserve the steel cage match with Brock Lesnar. He says he's not a superstar, he's a super-agent, he's a businessman. Big Show tries to calm him down saying he has Heyman's back, but Angle says unlike some people, he won't use his brawn. Angle says he will use his brain and he will go talk to Stephanie because as WWE champion and his personal relationship with Stephanie if you know what he means, he thinks he can talk Steph out of the match. - Angle and Heyman go to Stephanie's office and Heyman pleads to her saying Angle has so much respect for her. Stephanie interrupts and says he's not getting out of the match and Heyman says that's not what he's here for, he just wants one concession. Heyman then interrupts in panic, begging Stephanie to cancel the match at which point Angle kicks him out of the office. Angle then tells Stephanie to start off where they left off - at Valentine's Day...does she remember that? Steph says yes so Angle says they have a personal relationship as well and they each have the hots for one another. Stephanie says he's right but there's a time and a place for everything and right now it's for business. They had something special but right now, Kurt should concentrate on Wrestlemania 19. Angle says he's confident that he'll beat Brock at Wrestlemania. Stephanie gets mad saying she can see right through him and his advances. And you know what at Wrestlemania, it might be a REMATCH not a first-time match which confuses Kurt. Stephanie explains that because Angle pissed her off, she has decided that if Brock Lesnar beats Paul Heyman in a cage tonight, he will face Kurt Angle for the WWE title next week in Angle's hometown Pittsburgh. Looks like this is their way to get around the Angle injury. - Matt Hardy vs. Billy Kidman. As pointed out before, the winner faces Mysterio at Wrestlemania 19 for the Cruiserweight title. Very short but good match with Hardy getting the pin and retaining his title. - We see footage of Torrie Wilson's Playboy photo-shoot from Los Angeles. She basically says she's dreamed of it all her life and she's excited, etc. etc. - Backstage, Josh Mathews interviews Nidia, who apparently is angry that she didn't get to be in Playboy. They show footage of Nidia visiting the Playboy mansion and her wanting to give Hugh Heffner a message. She tells a security guard to tell Heffner to watch the Girls Gone Down PPV because she'll prove that she should have been chosen the diva to appear in Playboy. Cutting back live, Nidia challenges Torrie to a "body challenge" at the GGW PPV. Mathews asks Nidia what that is and so Nidia says simple - whoever looks better naked wins. She gives a stunned Mathews a quick preview. - They hype that in a second we will learn more on the Undertaker/Nathan Jones relationship and soon thereafter, we see Undertaker training Nathan Jones, helping him learn the basics of the ring. Taker tells Jones that the wrestling ring is just like a prison cell - you have to put your time in and you have to make sacrifices. If he didn't think Jones could do it, he wouldn't be here. Jones beats up one of the helpers and doesn't let go until Taker intervenes. - Undertaker vs. A-Train. Big Show and Nathan Jones are both at ringside. A-Train ends up winning via DQ when Jones interferes. After the match, Jones, Taker, A-Train and Big Show all end up fighting for a bit but Taker and Jones get the better of it. - Backstage, Hulk Hogan is shown and he tells a referee that he heard what Vince McMahon said last week. Tonight he will prove to the world who the real coward is. - Backstage, Stephanie kicks out A-Train and Big Show from the arena, despite their protests. - Another John Cena promo is aired where he talks about getting revenge on Brock Lesnar. - Hulk Hogan Interview. The crowd gives him a huge ovation again and he says that they are unbelievable. But he has to get something off his chest. He is through with Vince McMahon and is tired with playing games with Vince McMahon. He knows Vince would love it if he just walked out his life forever but that isn't going to happen. Vince can go ahead and screw him out of his match, he can call him a coward behind his back, he can tell the whole world that McMahon-a-mania is running wild. But none of this changes a damn thing - there's an issue between the two and it goes longer than 20 years. Everyone knows what it's all about so all he has to say to Vince is: Get your *** out here now and let's settle this like men. McMahon's music hits but he tells them to shut the damn thing off. He says he has no problem settling any issues with Hogan any time and any place. Crowd chants ******* so Vince says "yeah, there's the *******" and points to Hogan. Vince says he does have a problem doing it as men because quite frankly, Hogan is not a man. Hogan is just a mere shell of a man and he knows it when he looks in the mirror. Vince says that after all he's done for Hogan, he can't believe Hulk would call him out. Hogan tells him to shut up and says that week after week, he says he hates Hulkamania and how he created Hulkamania. But you know what, Vince is dillusional because he did not create Hulkamania. Hulkamania was a success inspite of you, not because of you. It lives because of all the Hulkamaniacs. Hogan says that the fact that he helped built this company makes Vince sick to his stomach. All those billions of dollars, the lear jet, the homes he has - it's all because of Hulkamania. Vince tells him to shut up so Hogan responds by telling Vince to kiss his ***. McMahon says it seems like Hogan has started to believe his own ********. He could have had anyone but Hogan interrupts and says are you serious in thinking that someone else could have ran with Hulkamania? Nobody ran as long and as hard as Hogan. If Vince actually thinks he was just a person in the right place at the right time, then he's a bigger dillusional bastard than he thought he was. Hogan then messes up his lines a little, but he basically tries to say that it was supposed to be Hogan vs. McMahon a few weeks ago but Vince threw in the Rock instead. Hogan challenges Vince to a match tonight. But Vince says "there's no chance in hell" and that he doesn't hate Hulkamania. But for the record, he hates Hogan because Hogan turned his back on him by joining Ted Turner and competing against him. Hogan then says that if it wasn't for him, his *** would still be in prison where the word "screw" would have a whole different meaning. Vince then blabs a little bit more and says Hogan won't have a match, but he'll get a fight - the first real fight Hogan's ever been in. At Wrestlemania. But wait Hogan, there's one stipulation - not if, but when you lose, you will never ever wrestle again as long as you live. Vince says that he created Hulkamania and by God, at Wrestlemania he will kill it. Hogan says hell yes, he's been waiting for this his whole life. Hogan ends with his "you better start training, eating your vitamins and saying your prayers" catchphrase to end the interview. - Team Angle vs. Rhyno & Chris Benoit. This is a non-title match so you know where they are going with the result. They announce that Edge will undergo neck surgery this coming Tuesday. They interrupt the match with a commercial but the finish sees Benoit hit the Crossface on Haas resulting in a submission victory. - Backstage, Kurt Angle tries to get Paul Heyman's confidence up. Heyman is discouraged so Kurt snaps and says that if he doesn't win, he'll havve to wrestle Brock Lesnar next week. He tells Paul that he will win tonight because they are a team and no one man is bigger than a team. - Brock Lesnar vs. Paul Heyman in a Steel Cage Match. Just to re-iterate, if Brock wins, he gets to face Angle next week in a title match. Heyman stalls at first so Lesnar beats up Team Angle before Heyman finally enters the ring and the door is closed. Heyman gets worked inside so Angle continually tries to get inside and eventually succeeds taking out Brock's knee and then hitting the Angle Slam. Lesnar ends up winning the match by hitting the F-5 for the pinfall.
