So...
young Kaito was a tool.
I'm liking Peter less and less. All that power, and he's nothing but a gullible sheep.
And, you know, the whole bit about who was telling the truth - Pratt or Adam - could have been settled by reading their minds.
Hmph.
Alejandro's dead! While he's actually the one I would have liked to see live, at least it's some progress. I'm doubting that Maya will kick the bucket next episode, but wouldn't that be just keen?
Super-mega-unconfirmed spoiler here:
Looks like West just... leaves. Awesome.

Dungeons and Dragons. It's pretty much the only even remotely sociable thing I do, in part because that's one of the only things I'm willing to leave my room for and because all my friends spend all of their damn time playing WoW.
Yes. I do admit I seem like I'm brushing it off as some kid wild about cute things. But that's my first impression when I saw her whining on t.v. and I'm just being straight-up about it.
Yeah, I know. I was just confronting that impression. ; ) No one can protest all the wrongs of the world at once; one thing at a time.
Yes, I meant "endangered." heh. And, um, yeah, any animal is going to be threatened or endangered if humans hunt them excessively. I think that applies to every living creature. According to your research, the dolphins aren't endangered, so, I'm not worried about them. You can be.
Well, that was the whole point of the protest... cut the problem off at the past. Stop over-hunting before the several species of dolphins that were being hunted wound up on the endangered species list (which is not easy to fix once that happens). And I think you misunderstand me; I don't particularly care about whether or not the dolphins are being hunted (there are much worse factors out there contributing to the possible endangerment of dolphins), and I'm not exactly worried about their safety. I was merely trying to give another viewpoint on Hayden's actions, because I don't think it's fair that her protest is being written off as a "just a girl with a crush." Plus, there were several points made that didn't sit well with me.
I just think it's not worth protesting Japanese eating dolphins when there are endangered species out there that deserve this attention.
They're getting the attention; PETA's not exactly resting on it's laurels, and the fate of the world's species does not rest solely on Hayden's head. And like I said, five or six people swimming around in the ocean isn't exactly an exhorbant number.
And isn't that what Hayden's stance is about, because I'm not for certain? Simply to not eat dolphins, period? You can correct me if I'm wrong. And I know that there are a lot of people with that stance.
Here quote can be read as either her wanting to stop all hunting, or just the annual hunt. She's not exactly clear; I'm leaning towards the latter myself.
And asking an American to respect foreign cultures isn't showing respect to American culture? That doesn't make sense to me because respecting other people's culture is one's choice, it's even something that Americans teach in school, and doesn't exactly counter American culture.
We've been trying to tell the world what to do for decades. Cuba, Iraq, Iran, Panama (we incited a rebellion! THat was a fun one), China, etc. Not to mention that we as American's love giving other people advice and telling them how wrong they are, and other countries aren't exactly excluded from that. It's a part of our culture, even if the schools say otherwise. As to the choice: individual Mexicans may choose to celebrate Dia de los Muertos, but it's still part of Mexican culture. Individual choice doesn't exactly factor in. NOTE: It's late and I'm tired. If any of this turns out to be incoherent rambling, my apologies.
Okay, I've read some articles on this issue with Pannettiere, and I have not heard anything about an endangered dolphin species.
That's because it didn't really involve them, at least as far as I know. I was merely mentioning that, indeed, there are extinct species of dolphins that the Japanese hunt.
What? Currently well-off, so this means that they're not endangered?
Yes.
Okay, particular practice. What do you mean by "particular practice" Nerdsy? Do you mean to change the practice by which the dolphin is killed or that the Japanese should not eat dolphins at all?
I mean the way in which they are killed.
You already know that I don't see anything wrong with Japanese eating dolphins. As far as the practice by which they kill dolphins, yes it is cruel. But so is the way all other animals are killed for food. Many fish are killed that way, they get cut up while they're alive.
I've never understood why this is considered a justification. There are other wrongs in the world, so let's ignore them all? I'm not the only one doing it, leave me be? Of course, if you're taking the approach of "why specifically target them, when there are so many other people doing it," then that's just overly demanding. No one can protest all the wrongs of the world at once; one thing at a time.
Now I know the dolphin is a mammal, and a big one at that, and that's probably why Miss Hayden made a big deal out of it. A big cute mammal is getting killed. The only difference in the way they're killed from our "humane" way of killing cows is that the dolphin isn't stunned before getting sliced. While killing cows, the assembly goes by so fast that some cows don't get the full shock treatment and may still feel pain. Not only that but whether the treatment really desensitizes them or just simply makes them unable to react physically to the pain, is uncertain.
Why is Hayden the only target of criticism here? There were five or so other people doing this. Besdies that, I'm not sure why people are brushing this off as "oh, it's just some girl worried about cute things." She cares about whether a species cruelly hunted down; whether or not she thinks they're cute is irrelevant, as her goal is the same no matter what.
If it'll make it more "humane" to stunn the dolphin before slicing it, I have no problem with that. Animals that are killed for food deserve to be killed painlessly. But if it's downright protesting people for eating a certain animal that's NOT extinct, then that's just hypocrisy and intolerance.
It's difficult to eat something that's extinct, not to mention protesting people for doing so. Perhaps you meant endangered? : P And the problem with the "If it aint broke, don't fix it" mentality is that people end up sitting there watching things break. The dolphins are currently neither threatend nor endangered, but according to my research they will be if humans continue with their current practices.
Right. The Hindus aren't apathetic. Why should they protest? They simply respect that in other cultures people eat different things. They're just minding their own business.
My point was not that Hindu's are apathetic, but that other's actions are not a justification. I suppose I could phrase it as "If all the Hindus jumped off a bridge, would you do it to?" It's an exaggeration, but my point is there. And on a lighter note, telling an American to respect foriegn cultures isn't showing respect to American culture. : P

I am so glad
they didn't go through with it. HRG is one of my favorite characters, and while his "death" was well done, I found myself cheering when he came back. I was worried, too. THe spoiler images for Powerless showed Claire holding an urn. I'm not getting the whole "zomg evil" vibe from Bob. Morally grey, definitely, but he's coming off as a good guy who makes hard decisions. Perhaps in the past he wasn't quite so... good-hearted, but he seemed to show genuine remorse at HRG's "death." And I'm so irritated that Kaito didn't reveal his power. He confirmed that he had one, but didn't show it! Blargh! Also: West was awesome this episode. I still hate him, but it was nice seeing him kick some ***.

You know, I could really start worrying more if I knew which type of dolphin she was out getting arrested for.
Pilot whales. Supposedly, they're currently well-off.
You don't see Hindus raising international outcries over the American Hamburger.
How is that a justification to ignore something you consider atrocius? "Hindus ignore it, you should too?"[ I'm not saying I agree hat dolphins shouldn't be used for food, but I don't see how other's inaction should prevent anyone else from acting on their beliefs. And by the way, you say they should ban that particular practice? That's pretty much exactly what she's trying to do; stop that particular practice. Hence why she protested that particular practice. She may have other, broader goals concerning no one hunting a dolphin ever, but they were not voiced by her during this. Unless you've got a quote I haven't seen, of course. If so, by all means, show me. As for dolphins being endangered overall... no, they're not, as far as I've been able to ascertain. It seems they're headed that way, and if people keep treating them as they do now, they certainly will be. To be fair, it seems to be a long way off from getting that bad.
-
There's at least one endangered species of Dolphin that the Japanese hunt. Not to mention that the method Hayden was protesting is somewhat... inhumane, and consists of beaching the dolphins. And I'd hardly call six people paddling out into the middle of the ocean as being an exhorbant amount of attention. Also, I wonder what Masi Oka thinks of this.
Sorry not convinced. You would have gotten me with Peter Patrelli... THAT IS if he hadn't started sucking so goddamn bad in season 2.
Started? I'm pretty straight. I'm not attracted to men (although I often pretend to be, to unnerve some of my more homophobic friends : D). However! While I am attracted to women, I lack the drive to ever go through with anything, even when I'm not the one making advances. This has resulted in a few awkward situations, compounded by my basic social ineptness. The girl usually gets offended, I get made fun of for weeks, and I settle comfortably into the friend zone. Blah blah blah.

I've been listening to a lot of Tegan and Sara recently. Like, it's almost nauseating how much I've been listening to them. "Walking With A Ghost" segues nicely into The White Stripes, so lots of them, too. Totally awesome. I'm going through one of those phases where I completely immerse myself in music, so I've just been jumping around mostly. ALthough whenever I do that, I listen to a ton of Bowie. Makes me feel better.

Is it okay to beat the crap out of your best friend's woman?
I have a friend who's 4'7. She is a woman. She threw a 6'6 man over her shoulder for patting her on the back.
And this is why one shouldn't hit or insult women. They're crazy, and will go off on you with the slightest provocation. Even a friendly back-pat! Oh, and Odin: that's a very easy way to get accused of rape. -

Tim Kring has personally apologized to fans for the flaws of this season. THis is a helluva surprise. He's essentially listing every single problem everyone has had with the show this season. Most importantly, the complete and utter lack of focus the show's had so far. And he says he's going to change that. Yay! I also love how he's apologizing for West for the completely wrong reasons. The fans aren't irritated by the romance, Kring. They're irritated by what a douche West is. They want him dead (which may happen son. Yay!) ALso, due to the writer's striek, the season finale is gonna be pushed up to December. IF Bennet dies, I'm going on a rampage. EDIT: December 3rd. Late December I could handle... but this is going to feel like such a rush job. Besdies, now there are only four episodes left.
In Ender's Game,
the Buggers were not actually out to destroy the human race. But because the two species couldn't communicate with each other, one of them (I believe the humans) attacked out of fear, and that's how all the Bugger Wars got started.

No...
the buggers intended to come to Earth to invade. The whole twist involving them was that they didn't realize that humans weren't a hive mind soceity, and therefore didn't realize that they were killing sentient life. They likened it to "clipping toenails." They simply didn't think it was really damaging.

I love webcomics. I'm addicted. I read all the usuals... Sluggy, 8-Bit Theatre, Penny Arcade, Real Life, Bob and George (yes, still). But my absolute favorite is kinda odd. Captain Snes. It's basically a fan sequal to Captain N, but done so much better (and so much darker, too. It's awesome.). It's got a great sense of humor, a deep and complex storyline, and great sprite-work. I love all the references, too; Jaydee knows his video game history. The only problem is the lack of updates. I never want to hear anyone ***** about their favorite webcomic not updating in forever until they have to sit through an entire year of "next update coming soon!" And he still doesn't update regularly. EDIT: To anyone that clicks on the link... the comic on the front page is basically a guest comic. That is not the quality that Captain SNES usually has... it's much better.

FIrst off, I am amused. Second, sounds like you've got yourself a good old-fashioned bully, and one you can't really stand up to without getting yourself in trouble. A tricky situation. Further, threatening to kick her *** was not the best move. It probably just goaded her on. Since when you ignore her/take her attacks in stride, she seems to only step things up, sounds like the only reasonable recourse is to either avoid her completely or... well, tell on her. -
As for Matt
taking down Maury.
I loved that scene. Him being a newb has nothing to do with that.
He faced his father and pointed out that the past Matt was in, was actually the painful memory of Maury's.
And really, if you've noticed, sci-fi powers usually do that "super fast maturity thing."
I don't care if there's a precident. It's still lame that
someone with decades of experience using the same power, who only days before owned his son with little effort, was trapped in a coma by someone who had just learned how to telepathically communicate, and barely at that. It's a lame deus ex machina (especially when we saw that Maury was experienced enough to completely block a mental invasion), and I cringe every time I see it. I liked the scene until the end, but he still should not have been able to take down Maury that easily. It made Maury seem like much less of a threat. I was hoping for a nigh-unstoppable bad-***, and I got this.

Plus he isn't that much of a newb. Look at Sylar, he's able to control new powers very well.

Sylar's different.
It's his power to understand everything instantly. His original power. Intuitive aptitude.
EDIT:
As for Adam and Peter? Yeah, I'd be dissapointed too. I'm not really getting into Kensei as the villian this season.

I dislike Thanksgiving. First, I don't like turkey... at all. Of course, that's what my family serves every year. And since my parents are divorced, I end up having two Thanksgiving meals; perhaps 3, now that my mom is remarried. I have to put up with two gigantic meals, and I usually get yelled at at one or the other for not eating enough. Hmph. Plus I just generally dislike holidays for some reason.
