Otakupedia Entries/Suggestions/Discussion thread
Nerdsy replied to Charles's topic in General Discussion
Are we at 100 yet? At any rate, here's an article in celebration! Otakupedia Otakupedia is an encyclopedia that attempts to chronicle the vast history of Otakuboards. As such, it is awesome. While the desire to create a repository of Otakuboards lore has existed for years (as early as v2), it was Charles who finally got around to making one. It started as a simple thread in Otaku Lounge, wherein the plan was to edit the initial post with the proposed entry. Fortunately, Baron Samedi quickly realized how clunky such a method would be, and suggested that the actual articles should be posted in a separate, stickied thread. The number of articles quickly grew after that, with topics ranging from the legendary Ginnylyn to the infamous Complaint. After about a month, however, the rate of new articles quickly ground to a halt, and the suggestions thread remained dormant for months. This changed when the mighty DeadSeraphim, lord of all mortal affairs, designed an actual website in which to place the myriad articles. This helped reinvigorate interest in Otakupedia, and articles have been produced at a steady pace ever since then. While clearly inspired by Wikipedia, Otakupedia does not operate the same way. Otakupedia is not a wiki; not everyone is allowed to edit articles on a whim. Charles handles all updates, although he has expressed the possibility of opening it to the public sometime in the future. Even with these restrictions, Otakupedia is a much more casual encyclopedia than is the norm. Articles do not have to adhere to a neutral point of view, with Charles himself often poking fun at several members within their respective articles. Articles also do not need to cite sources, because it's just a message board, and people shouldn't take things so seriously. As of June 21, 2007, over 100 articles have been accepted into Otakupedia. Edit for accuracy, plskthx. EDIT: Picture of Shift. Let's all laugh! -
This is all your fault. I stared at my monitors, but nothing was registering. I simply could not silence the judgemental voice that had taken residence inside my head, blaming me for what had just transpired. It was right. You made the call. You tarnished the good name of a compatriot. It was you who allowed the mole to wreak this havoc. The guilt was unbearable. I imagine what our leader, Gape Ape would say; he would probably tell me that it wasn't may fault, that if I hadn't pulled the trigger, somebody else would have. I smiled. Even when I fail him, he's still supportive. But whatever comfort that though brought, it vanished instantly. What did it matter if someone else would have pulled the trigger? I was still the one who actually went through with it. I was still the one who pulled it. I hadn't listen to the voice before, when it kept insisting that Japan was to obvious. I was too cowardly to defend my position. And it cost the CTU dearly.

Agreed. Too small, me no likey.

I was livid. It was the second time in as many days that my security had been compromised by hackers; to make matters worse, one of my very teammates had been one of them! Could he not have just asked? But I had to forget about that for now; the team was in trouble. I could see the fear on their faces. Mother was only part right; the team was indeed afraid of accusing innocent team members. However, the problem reached far deeper than that. The entire building was permeated with a sense of helplessness. I know I felt it; the feeling of uselessness was driving me insane. Finding traitors was not among my list of skills. This was why I resorted again to my forte: intel. I had discovered the identities of the suspects after hours of meticulous searching, for whatever good it did. Even with the identities revealed, I felt no closer to discovering the truth. But I could not sit idly by and watch as almost the entire team, including our spokeswoman, remained indecisive. Somebody had to take the initiative, and it didn't look like anyone else was going to. I do not wish to do this, as I feel it is too much responsibility for one member to bear. However, war requires action, and I am forced to do this. Shades and Gadget have been the only ones to truly put forth an argument regarding any suspect's guilt. The rest of us have either simply said "but what if you're wrong?" or ignored the situation entirely. Both of stated that they primarily suspect Japan. If I were to go with my gut, I'd agree with them. She has done nothing to further our cause, and her friendship with the terrorist leader has been well documented. I paused, dreading what I was about to do. Could I truly take on the responsibility of what I'm about to do? What if I'm wrong? I breathed deep and steeled myself as best I could. In the absence of an active spokesperson or a consensus among the team, I feel that I have no choice but to declare a decision. Japan is the mole.

The Inevitable O-Lounge Blondes Vs Brunettes!
Nerdsy replied to Andrew's topic in General Discussion
Yes, it is a widely accepted fact that brunettes are more attractive to people, and that's cool. [/size']
Really? That's news to me, especially considering the media humdrum that accompanies famous blondes. -

I'm learning Klingon right now, and by "right now" I mean "have been trying for a good 4 years now but I only know how to say 'We will meet in the cocktail lounge.'" It's hard to learn when you're so lazy. : ( -

I have a small Hadoken :'(

There there, A. It's not the size that matters, it's what you can blow up with it.
If announcements aren't loading try F5-ing your page and see if that comes through.
Yeah, I tried that before I posted, it didn't work. Also, the image problem didn't affect me, is it didn't seem to afflict the Geisha skin. So no worries there.
I've just made an announcement about this. It's a technical error that has to be fixed.
Like, an Announcement announcement? Because it's not showing up for me; I still see Charles' last Otakupedia announcement.
Version 1: This was at theotaku.com/forums wasn't it? It didn't use the otakuboards.com URL from what I hear. Otakupedia Entries/Suggestions/Discussion thread
Also, the board had banner/logo contests as early as 2001. The first one I recall, they simply ended up rotating through all the submissions (thimoc's MS-paint stick figure logo was the first one up), but the rotation stopped long before every submission had been featured... I only remember a couple days of different banners, but maybe Nerdsy or another oldie can confirm or deny that.[/size']
My memory of this is hazy, but I think it lasted for a week or so of a new banner a day, ending with transtic's banner as the official winner. -
Wasn't that v4? With the big block of dark blue and dark purple up there at the top?
Hm, the only colors I see on that page are black, white, grey, and yellow. The banner's not loading for me, though... so that may be what you're referring to. And yeah, the new banner is much spiffier. I do miss having a person there, but I hated the monochrome.

I finished my surveillance, hoping beyond hope to determine the identities of the suspects. The information stormed in my head, and I attempted to make sense of it all. The discussion of my teammates, once nothing more than background noise, now roared to the forefront of my attention. I decided the time had come for me to chime in. I agree with Shades that suspect 3 is almost clearly Japan. however, I don't think we should be focusing entirely on suspect 3. We need to consider the other two. Suspect 1 has been a mystery to me; I went with his or her claim that they never post in hardwired because they never play video games. I found many with very few posts; Birmingham and Shades both had one or two posts, but it was clear from both of them that they play video games at least semi-regularly. Sonic had zero posts in Hardwired, lending credibility to her being suspect 1. However, my firm belief is that suspect 1 is our own spokeswoman Mother, due to her complete lack of interest in video games, and also because the answers given point almost directly to her; her use of bunnies to end fights parallels her use of baked goods to end fights mentioned in this thread. Suspect 2 is a little harder to place via my amazing research. My initial reaction to the questions are Peacock, Shades, and Platypus. However, I realize Peacock would never be that modest... Platypus posts there exceedingly rarely. With further research, I discovered that Birmingham has never posted in Anime Lounge, but he seems to still be somewhat active in Adventure Square... and he doesn't post nearly enough in art studio... I have not completely researched everyone, but I believe wholeheartedly that suspect 2 is Platypus. Mainly due to the "snarky" comment. Suspect 3 is clearly Japan. There's no doubt in my mind; the love for cat pictures gives it away easily, and the fact that suspect 3 was told by someone to join this RPG. As to who the mole is... Japan seems too obvious. Pardon the expression, but she's been in bed with Charlie Bin Laden for years; would our dreaded enemy truly use such an obvious plant? She has certainly been the least active of all of the CTU members (with the exception of Birmingham and MistressRoxie), though, keep that in mind. Suspect 2 shows signs of being a terrorist as well. "Forced" being an interesting choice of words. This suspect, if it is indeed Platypus, would not bring about too much suspicion, and would certainly fit in with Grape Ape's cryptic comments. Suspect 1 would be a hell of a surprise, especially if I'm right about it being Mother. Sonic is still not out of my sights yet, though. That is all I have for you, CTU. Take eveything iwth a grain of salt. I leaned back, relieved that I was finished with this witch hunt. I returned to my surveillance; the terrorists would not rest simply because we were busy.
Version 4 was blue/purple/gray and seemed, for some reason, to be one of the least popular skins we've had. (Super Mario Sunshine wasn't released till just before the switch to v5, by the way. I remember working on ShineGet.com while OB was down for a month between versions.) Personally, I liked it more than anything prior to v7.
Which version was this, then? It's come to my attention that OB has started blocking some sections of archive.org. Something about automated crawlers. Is there some we we can allow the ones from there? EDIT: Sorry, not crawlers. Here's what I'm talking about. -
As exciting as all this is, kids, the reason these threads get locked is because it turns into a "You are pretty!" spamfest to appease the insecure or the attention seekers.. Keep it in mind if you want this to live, yo.[/color']
QFT Also, r2, damn you and your rickrolling! Damn you to hell! -
Except for what I think was a very brief stint with red a couple years ago, OB has always been blue/lavender/grey. Oh, I guess there was also a dark purple banner once.[/size']
It used to be this awful shade of pink sometime in early V1. Also, it was brown or so during the AGB days. And Asphyxia's right; I think v4 was predominantly yellow due to James' obsession with Super Mario Sunshine. : p

That only redeeming aspect of this movie is that they killed Donal Logue. Well, that and Sam Elliot... I must say, I found his Ghost Rider form to be infinitely more interesting than Johnny Blaze's. But everything else in the movie just reaked of awful. And they're making a sequal. There is no justice in the world.

So are we taking bets on when the stalking starts? I'm betting middle of page 5, and closed by page 8 out of moderator annoyance. That's totally me. True story.
Actually, this is me.
-
I'm not liking it too much; I'm not a fan of simple black and white and such. I need color! The sidebar looks nice, though; was that design added in the update? I have a poor attention to detail, so I have no idea if it was always there and I'm just now noticing it or something. I'm using Geisha now (how long has it been since that had an update?), so it doesn't really affect me too much.
I will thank you with candy, and because you reversed time I already did, meaning I don't have to anymore, meaning when I give you candy you'll be owing me candy. In fact that argument folds itself over a million times over so you now owe me all the candy you can muster. That my friend, is my surge fist. -r2
I was wondering where the candy would eventually come from...
When you consider that Dragon Ball has been around longer than Street fighter, your logic is a little questionable there, sir.
Backwards time universe, my friend.
You seriously think that my power to be annoying is weaker than Cell?
Of course not. I'm not stupid. I know you're more annoying than Cell was powerful, which is why I'm suggesting a hadoken, not some two-bit ripoff created by a bald guy in a turtle shell. I mean, come on. Only the original will do.
