Oh boy, seems my last post was misenterpreted. I don't type in magenta, I type in deep pink. I was just saying that thewords in the entry themselves were in the wrong color. It was deep pink text instead of deep pink text which I assume is what was meant. I was also pointing out that deep pink is no longer an option in the dropdown menu, and that the code has to be written out manually. Sorry for not being clear. -

The part of my entry that says deep pink text isn't actually in deep pink, it's in magenta. Deep pink hasn't been an option in the drop-down bar in a couplle versions, you have to write it out. {color=deeppink}{/color}. James, I'm sorry, but which of my questions were you saying "That's right" to? I'm assuming the lurker, but I'm not entirely sure, heh.
Must be some sort of secret smiley language then. :p
Anime sweatdrops indicate jokes, particularly jokes that probably won't go over well. Essentially the same thing with anime sighs, although they indicate exasperation, whereas sweatdrops indicate a kind of nervousness. And yes, I do spend way too much time thinking about the inrtricacies of smilies. And so I contribute more to this thread than an argument about a joke... I didn't read it all, because I hate transcripts, all-day news channels, and reading 6000 words at two in the morning. According to that one, Lunox, the babies death took mere seconds, although it was very painful. On the subject; if that article is to be believed, the mother had been drinking that evening. It wasn't clear on how much, though. Further, both the father and the mother have criminal records. The babysitter appeared to have been cleared. Any questions regarding whether the baby was okay when the parents returned home seemed to be ignored, although I did not read every bit of that article. It was mentioned several times that the mother immediately went to bed, although the father was up.
...we believe the father was up with the child at some point during the night, and we have witnesses to that effect.
I could not find anything explicitly saying whether or not the baby was alive at that point, though. Hope that sheds a little clarity on the subject... EDIT: I don't know if those links actually work. I kind of accessed them in an odd way. -

Also, come to think of it, Zeh was a mod back in V1 as well, in the Dragonball forum. I'm pretty sure he was also the original mod of the Final Fantasy forum. I'm having trouble accessing his profile on Archive.org, so I'm not sure exactly how old he was when he was modded, but I know he was a mod December 2000. Does this also make him eleven? If so, he ties with Renee. James: According to archive.org, your actual account was created in April of 2001. This would be when you went by James_B, if I recall correctly. Did you have an account before that, or were you just a lurker? Otaku Triad The Otaku Triad is a small group consisting of three members, Sara, Shy, and Nerdsy who registered on the 29, 30, and 31 of March, 2001, respectively. They subsequently all became close friends, and upon discovering the coincidence regarding their registration dates decided to start calling themselves the Otaku Triad. This was mostly due to the insistence (and nagging) of Nerdsy. Eventually, it was decided to allow Ginnylyn, a close friend of the Triad, to join as an honorary member. Due to this, it was occasionally referred to as The Otaku Triad Plus One. There were several other honorary members, including a series of members who were inducted because they were the last ten people to sign up at OB at the time. Their interest was not required. All the core members of the Triad (and for that matter, Ginny) all became prominent members of Otakuboards. Further, the three core members have all been staff members at one time or another. Sara and Shy in particular; they both became Supermods (the equivalent of a Category Moderator) and Shy eventually became the Event Master. The Triad have been members of OB for over 5 and a half years. -
I can't believe she did that. That's really messed up! It's so wrong and I think that she had no reason to do that. Why do we allow fonts that bright and burning? Edit: Well, confusing for me. Everyone else seems to be assuming that everyone is talking about the Ohio woman, which honestly is likely. If you're talking about the Ohio woman, you don't know if she did it. You were not there, you are not on the jury, and the only information you have to go on is some vague article that leaves out a lot of relevant information. If you're talking about the Virginia woman... well, you still don't know, but it's slightly more understandable. Like I said earlier, we don't know very much about that, either, so I still don't think it's justified to jump to conclusions. -
It must have been far before I came and was a PokéMod with you, because I can't remember anything too terrible.[/color']
Oh, long before that. I don't remember when you became a mod (sometime after the switch to VB, right?) or when you joined, but I was really only a terrible member in my first week, after which I realized that the jokes my friends at the time enjoyed wouldn't cut it here. And thus, I instantly matured to a level relative to the rest of the board. Which, at the time, wasn't a whole lot better. : P Speaking of the Pokemon forums. Pokemon Not only was it one of the earliest forums on the boards, the Pokemon forum was also the most popular game-specific forum. While discussion of the anime was allowed, it was very rarely present. Originally, the forum suffered from a lack of direction; the main draw of Pokemon was the one-on-one battles, and those were impossible at the time. The rest of the game was far too simplistic to inspire any interesting topics. Threads ended up ranging from repeated pleas for help regarding an elusive item (often repeated by several new members) to conversations about Pokemon nicknames to an involved fanfic about numerous mutated Cubones. However, that all changed with the arrivals of vaporjolt and Altron Gundam (who would later mod the forum). Both masters of their respective sets of games (Gold/Silver/Crystal and Red/Blue/Yellow), they started rating the teams of their fellow forum members, doling out brutal honesty mixed with helpful advice. Together, they breathed new life and direction into the Pokemon forum. Added to this was the discovery of the Pokemon Battle System, a website which simulated actual Pokemon battles. Forum goers were finally able to pit their teams against each other and discuss their battles in the forum. The battles were quickly dominated by the likes of vaporjolt, Altron Gundam, and Safer Sephiroth, but everyone enjoyed themselves. Some time later, Altron Gundam, vaporjolt, and other prominent members disappeared from the forum, effectively eliminating team rating, and the Pokemon Battle System shut down. The forums suffered as a result, and were eventually deemed to have been played out. They were removed with the rest of the anime and video game specific forums. I know I'm missing a large chunk from the later months, but I wasn't around/don't remember a lot about it. And I was probably being a little dramatic about the "forum suffered as a result," so go ahead and set me straight on that. -
Just a little FYI: It just came to my attention that I typoed Sephiroth's name in my entry regarding MAMA, and this has translated over to the Otakupedia itself.
Yeah, I'm noticing a few typos in a lot of the articles. I understand how difficult it is to go through and correct the mistakes after they've been posted, especially since it's updated daily, but at what point are we going to go?
There was also a case in Virginia in 2003 where a woman was convicted of microwaving her son to death. This woman suffered from epilepsy and had black outs after her seizures.
This is the second woman I'm taling about. There are two cases mentioned in the original post; the recent arrest about a 2005 death in Ohio, and a 2003 case in Virginia that actually resulted in a conviction.
They don't know if she did or didn't do it. Just because she's the prime suspect doesn't mean she's the one responsible(sp?).
There are two different women in the original post. One of them hasn't been legally proven; the other one has. Not that that means anyone truly knows, but it's the best we're gonna get. I sort of forgot that myself when I posted my previous post, but I would have said it had I remembered anyway. What threw me off was the anger that seemed to be expressed at a woman who had epilepsy, as I wouldn't put an accident caused by a medical condition on the same level as pre-meditated murder. Of course, I don't have all the information on the 2003 case. If the condition was diagnosed beforehand and she did not take the necissary precautions, then she should be chastised. If she had no idea she had it, that's hardly a reason to vindicate her. Chibihorsewoman, do you actually have any information handy on the 2003 case? I'm curious as to the details. -
Before I get into my opinions on the matter, I'd like to point out that the mother hasn't been proven guilty as of yet, so I wouldn't be quite so quick to judge her.[/color']
Took the words right out of my mouth, but I'd like to add that it's not even proven that the child actually died from being microwaved. I think it's clear that people who mircrowave their children should not be allowed to have them. However, if it was not her fault - and it might not have been - she should not be punished. I myself was burned by a babysitter (allegedly) when I was as young as 2 or 3. It was not my mother's fault, and as far as I know there was no prior evidence that it was an abusive babysitter. However, my mom immediately switched babysitters. She did the right and responsible thing. My mom was not truly responsible for the burn, and in no way should have been punished. If she did it, fine. Let the full brunt of the law be upon her. If not, leave her alone. She lost her child. -
At this current state, Otakupedia is pretty much run by the old foggies rambling about stuff that happened years ago.
Bah! In my day, we didn't sass our elder members. We respected them! You kids today, you've all been spoiled by your custom avatars, different colored fonts, and moderators who actually visit the boards! In my day, we had 40 pre-set avatars to choose from, the moderators hadn't visited in months, and we had to code 7 miles uphill both ways just to bold our words! And we liked it! Also, Altron was actually the famous Flame of Recca from the Recca war,the first flame war I had ever witnessed. His Flame of Recca account was deleted, and back then that counter-acted any IP bans, so he came back as SSJ4 Gokou, and no one seemed to care. Funnily enough, he later ended up defending hte boards from another spammer who was doing the same thing later. Er, that wasn't meant to add to the article. I can write up some more stuff for Altron, and edit that last paragraph to be Otakupedia friendly, but it'll have to be later. I've got will2x to write for now, and I'm pressed for time. will2x Among the first to have registered at Otakuboards, will2x was a controversial figure during his entire tenure. Known for his crude humor and spouting praise for "The Cycle," will2x was a regular poster during V1 and V2. As the months passed (and shortly after his one-year anniversary), will2x somehow became a mod of Games and Stories, the role-playing forum at the time. Despite this, the G&S did not immidiately collapes into chaos, or rather more chaotic chaos, since that forum was not known for its standards. During the Gendo/Shinji incident, will2x was the only moderator to support their actions, and thus was one of the few mods to lose his or her postion after the switch to V3. After the incident, he continued to post semi-regularly until mid-2003. Hmm. I seem to be writing only about the less reputable members. Perhaps I should stop that. -
