There are a number of bad things that could happen. The chances of them happening are just extremely low. It's been said by some of the professionals working on the device that the chances of something extremely bad happening are about the chances of one person winning the lottery three consecutive weeks in a row. Besides the theory that states it could create a black hole stable enough to consume the earth, there's also a theory involving a particle called a "stranglet". This stranglet could convert all matter it comes in contact with to itself therefore turning the universe into a glob of "strange matter". There's a much higher probability that it will create microscopic black holes that evaporate almost instantly. This would actually be a good thing because it would give the scientists a chance to study it. For obvious reasons we've never been able to directly observe a black hole before. As many of you I've been keeping up with this thing for a few years now. I'm quite excited for October when the real fun begins. We already know a great deal about what to expect because there are devices very similar to this one that work on a smaller scale. This will be the last particle collider of it's type, because if we get the full set of elementary particles in the standard model the next thing to look for would be strings. In order to build a particle excellerator powerful enough to detect a string (as in string theory) it would have to be the size of a galaxy.

Anyone looking forward to this? It's basically a new NES game. The creators even put fake glitches in to make it more accurately retro. If it's anything like the first two megaman games (which it should be) I can't wait. As far as I know you have to download it from one of the online services. I wouldn't mind picking it up in the store though for like 5 bucks instead of going through the hassle of buying something from my WII online. I don't like the whole not having a physical object to represent the game. Thoughts?

In the vein of Radiohead, Girl Talk is releasing his new album in the "pay what you want" fashion. Just as amazing as his last album "Night Ripper" in my opinion. He mixes a million songs into a huge megamix. My favorite highlight from the album is most likely the mix of Metallica's "One" and that song "Lip Gloss" by I don't know. So do yourself a favor and get this album. http://74.124.198.47/illegal-art.net/__girl__talk___feed__the__anima.ls___/ Lemme know what you think!

Clubs seem to be the best bet for meeting a lot of people. I'd much rather hang around a bunch of geeks and play magic cards or something than sulk in my dorm room with an annoying roommate and hack into the schools highly insecure computer system. Cuz that's basically what happened when I was living in my dorm. (it had it's moments though) Quite frankly I'd avoid frats too, or anywhere there's a lot of drinking going on. That tends to get in the way of studying. If you get behind in your classes it sucks, so make sure to put your school work in front of your social life. Not that I'm telling you what to do, but it might save you a lot of trouble in the long run. Most importantly, just have fun. Play some pranks perhaps. Start your own club. Have a Mario Kart tournament. and good luck :D

I made a game. Thought some people here might appreciate it. You're basically an elf on a unicycle. I mixed in some ideas similar to stuff from Gradius and Contra. Took me about a week to finish. http://www.gigasize.com/get.php?d=v2o1wwnt4vb Edit: Game is back up. Have fun playing it! Some comments may be nice. also.. warning: this game would probably be rated T for Teen. some language may be used that some people may consider harsh. nothing you wouldn't find in a PG movie though.

I Forgot What You People Look Like (Image Heavy)

Here's a picture of me with orange hair, and a picture of me with black hair flipping off the camera for no apparent reason. I had a pony tail for a while, and went through several different phases. I've cleaned myself up a bit since then so I don't really look like that.
You don't sound selfish, you sound uninformed.
I'm pretty sure I just meant to sound selfish. I was trying to say that it would be a bigger problem for the middle east than it would for the USA. The war costs the USA 12 billion dollars a month. The national debt has been rising at a rapid rate ever since Bush was in office. You better be stocking that gold away in a vault. Another depression's just around the corner.

Most likely the funniest thing I've ever seen on the internet. http://cinemassacre.com/AVGN/Nes_Nerd_videos.html *Warning: Harsh Language* He reviews old video games that suck. Anyone remember the Power Glove? If you've ever used one you'll know that it's near impossible to use. There's an episode where he sets it up. It almost reminds me of the Wii before they actually had the technology. Remember the game "Back to the Future" for the NES? Remember how it was just like the movie? Just watch the AVGN's review. It's classic.
Angeldust- Faith No More Once more, a very cool album.
Very nice choice. I'm sure I've listened to that one over 20 times. Mr Bungle - Disco Volante - There was a point in time where this was my favorite album. The experimental metal sent shockwaves through my body. All of the Mr Bungle albums were grand with either their amazingly complicated composition, or cool lyrics. Edan - The Beauty and the Beat - An amazing rap album with awesome metaphors and dope rhyming. Sounds like a rap god busting out his finest over rock albums being played on a phonograph in a gymnasium. Frank Zappa - We're only in it for the Money/Lumpy Gravy - I'm grouping these albums together because it's basically the first and second phase of an amazing album. Frank Zappa was an innovator and his sarcasm is often hilarious over this experimental rock/jazz masterpiece. There's plenty more, but if you're looking for some good tunes you should probably start with those.

I'd have to say golden retrievers given that they're well trained. I grew up with a golden named Bill who was impossible to train, but he was still an awesome dog. I'm slightly relieved that the days of chasing this dog around town are over. Right now I just have to focus on my two boxers. They're a handful, but at least they don't run away. Don't get me wrong, I love my dogs, but boxers fart, and they always want to sit in your lap even though they're huge.
I am very concerned about this election. As far as I'm concerned, Obama doesn't even care about our country. I have several friends in the Army and even those that were stationed in Iraq. They all agree on one thing. Pulling out of middle east would be disasterous..
This may sound a bit selfish, but pulling out of Iraq would be disastrous for whom? As far as the constitution goes we shouldn't even be in Iraq. If I recall, didn't Bush somehow give himself the power to make that decision? I may be proven wrong with upon further research, but that's what I seem to remember.

Snes/Wii: Gradius 3 I just finished Gradius 3 (normal mode) on the virtual console. Probably one of the hardest games I've ever beat. It's awesome though because the more you practice the more you learn and the better you get at it. There's pretty much only one way to beat it and that's not to die once during the entire game. Nintendo DS:Contra 4 I'm not too far into this one, but from what I can gather this is a pretty good game. I've only gotten to the second level so far (normal mode) but it's pretty fun. The only problem I have is my hands get tired after playing the Nintendo DS for a certain amount of time so I can't go all Word of Warcraft on it like I could with the other Contra games.

Do yourself a favor and check out goto80. www.goto80.com Most of the music is free and it's amazing. It's all 8-bit. What's 8-bit music? It's music made on old video game systems and old computers. (ex. gameboy, commodore 64, atari, etc) Maybe you've heard of 8-bit Weapon. Maybe not. Whatever the case I think GOTO80 blows them out of the water. I'm pretty sure the name refers to the programming command GOTO and I'm not sure what the 80 is. Your guess is as good as mine, but I'd like to think it has something to do with the 1980s decade. My favorite in terms of material possessions. They made the best junk back then.

This is a really strange thread...but I like it. If anyone tried to kill me for any reason I'd think they were crazy. If someone's that crazy they're probably capable of killing themselves. If my main intent of dying was saving them, I'd factor that in. Then again I wouldn't probably have much time to think in a situation like that. I guess it would all boil down to whether or not I had the balls to kill them.

Obama. Do you like him? Hate him? Personally I think he's the lesser of the evils so far. He's wants to pull our troops out of Iraq, and he wants to provide cheaper high education. McCain scares me a bit. He reminds me of Bush. He even got Bush's approval recently. He wants the US to stay in Iraq. He said that "we're almost done fighting this war" he thinks that in 2 years it'll be over and everything will be great. He also said that if we pull our troops out of Iraq then the war will come over here. I call BS. If that happened I'd join the army. McCain is also blatantly racist(but that's beside the point). I'm not trying to make this an advertisement for Obama. I'm interested in what everyone else thinks.

Madtracker is a good shareware program. I don't think the free version leaves much out. Search google for that and a VST called drummatic. If you don't know what a VST is you should look at some tutorials for Madtracker to get started (i'm pretty sure it explains the basics of virtual instruments). If you like that there's a much better program called Renoise for $60. Same concept, more features, lots of built in stuff. It has a great community and the program is updated all the time. You could also look into Reason. It has a few virtual synthesizers and drum machines with some built in effects. That's more on the expensive side though, it's about $300 last time I checked. The upside of reason is it's a lot easier to use. If you have a midi keyboard you can just play the synths and/or drums then quantize everything. There's always fruity loops. That's a pretty good place to start from what I hear. I hate the interface though so I've barley used it. There's another free program called buzz. You can get that one at www.buzzmachines.com . It's not that stable though because the creator lost the source code and hasn't updated it in years. There are some buzz clones out there now though that play instruments made for buzz. Fruity Loops is also capable of playing buzz instruments. hope that helps Edit: If you have a little cash and a way to record stuff I'd check out the deals on drum machines. You can get a good drum machine index at www.vintagesynth.com . I got an old korg drum machine for like $20 on ebay.

I have a few interesting situations. How would you feel if your girlfriend/boyfriend kissed someone of the same sex? How would you feel if your girlfriend/boyfriend kissed someone of the opposite sex with a different sexual orientation? Personally, I really don't care that much in either situation. Maybe I'm weird though.

NAMBLA: How far can you stretch the first ammendment
XeEmO replied to Starwind's topic in General Discussion
Censorship is everywhere in Democratic countries. Do not be so naive.
To clarify; All I'm trying to say is that free speech is important. If you start telling people they can't say something, you're essentially trying to control what they can say. Who's job will it be to decide if you're wrong? -
NAMBLA: How far can you stretch the first ammendment
XeEmO replied to Starwind's topic in General Discussion
I in no way endorse the actions of pedophiles, but I doubt there would be a way to block their speech. It's as simple as they're evil, but I wouldn't ban the mention of them. Censorship is always a step towards a fascist nation. -
An amazing mind bending philosophical journey into lucid dreaming. Everyone should see this movie at least once. It's by the guys that made Dazed and Confused, Slacker, and most recently a scanner darkly. It's the first movie of there's to use rotoscoping technology. For those of you unfamiliar with rotoscoping, it's when you film something and then add animation over it. Perfect for the premise of the movie, which is a dream. The main character in this movie is dreaming. You follow him around through false awakenings, and lucid moments. He eventually figures out he's dreaming and ponders if he's dead. He can't wake up from the dream. Some of the dialogue in this movie is especially creepy and reminiscent of the dream world. One specific example I can remember is when the main character is talking to someone in his dream about the fact that he's dreaming. He asks what it's like to be a character in a dream. There's also the reoccurring dream character. You know the type. You see him doing one thing and then he's something completely different. He denies the fact that he was ever doing the first thing that you saw him doing. All in all, great movie. Rent it, buy it, but most importantly watch it.

I'm pretty sure it was some show called noozles on nick jr. Something about teddy bears time traveling. I don't really remember watching it, but I found a tape a while back where I had recorded it. Other than that it was Pokemon that got me into things. It may have been corny, but sometimes I just like bad anime. Especially if the voice acting is poor. It kinda brings this whole feel to everything..I can't really explain it. It's just like...happiness through cheesiness.

How many other caffeine addicts out there can't get enough of these things? Does anyone know if Taurine is bad for you? What about ginseng? Is it really a good idea to get 2000% vitamin B in an 8oz drink? My favorite energy drink right now is by that rockstar brand. It's half guava juice, half "energy". I'm pretty sure I'm taking years off my life by drinking these things, but some nights I prefer getting wired rather than trashed. I'll also do just about anything for a boost of energy in the morning.

Anyone heard of this? It's defiantly worth checking out if you have 12 bucks to spare. You can get it on the Wii virtual console. It was originally released in japan for the N64. There's a whole background story for it if you look on wikipedia. The story's not really that important though (to me). Imagine if contra and starfox had a kid. It'd be a lot like this game. You control the main guy by moving left, or right. Then you can aim your gun at other stuff on the screen with the analogue stick. It gets pretty intense. Awesome game.

Dear Otakuboards I'm sure this thread has been done to death, but I'm looking for pro-marijuana research. Do you think marijuana should be legalized? I was just convicted for a misdemeanor of marijuana possession. I plan to take it to court to contest; con·test -verb 4. to struggle or fight for, as in battle. 5. to argue against; dispute: to contest a controversial question; to contest a will. 6. to call in question: They contested his right to speak. 7. to contend for in rivalry. ?verb (used without object) 8. to dispute; contend; compete. Even if I have no chance of winning my plan is basically to legalize marijuana in the United States. I have an essay as well as a movie in the works. Any discussion to promote ideas, or research with sources would help. I'm also thinking about starting a petition for legalization. Once again, I'm sure it's been done to death, but I'd love to come into court with a movie, an essay, and as many signatures as possible for the legalization of marijuana. If anyone's interested in starting a petition in their hometown please private message me about the possibility of getting the signatures mailed to me. Even if It ends up in the supreme court that's fine by me. Just remember the oxford students that proved parallel universes through a calculation. If their calculations are correct I'm going to win the battle in one dimension or another. Good night Otaku Boards. I'm ready for yet another heart filled discussion on the legalization of marijuana.
