I just got word of one of the most amazing albums of this generation. It's called "Time Travel" and it's only on I-Tunes. Why is it called Time Travel? Well it's so ahead of it's time rumor has it that the artist (Xeem) traveled into the future and listened to a bunch of music there. Then he seemingly tried to emulate what he heard. It's electronic, but I wouldn't call it techno. Xeem is sometimes influenced by electronic bands such as Boards of Canada. Another influence is Mr. Oizo. You probably haven't heard of Mr. Oizo, but he's on the same record label as "Justice" (a small band from France). If you haven't heard of Justice you will soon. Just a year ago they were practically unheard of. I had to special order their first EP from Japan and the guys at the store told me they might not even be able to get it. They kind of blew up a few months ago after their myspace got popular and they put out their first album. They were nominated for best music video in the MTV music awards, and for the first time you can hear them on the radio in the USA. I'm not as big a fan of Justice as I am some other electronic bands though. They bring some new stuff to the table, and I'd almost almost go as far as to say they're the new "Daft Punk". That's really off topic though, because I want to focus on this EP by Xeem. I just thought it would bring some nice background information into the equation. I can barley describe how this album sounds. You should go to I-Tunes and see for yourself from the 30 second samples. After listening to those you should have a pretty idea that this is something special. In one of the songs called "Microwave" the song goes from almost static sounding noise to a melodic creepy song with backwards vocals and what appears to be backwards piano. It almost reminds me of Aphex Twin on hallucinogenics. Not literally of course, but if you could give music drugs (as apposed to the artist), that's what it would sound like. At the very least you should check out the samples provided. If you like it, tell your friends, and maybe even buy the album. It's friggin' cheap!

ever deadly cancer sticks (thread for smokers)
XeEmO replied to Metalcore501's topic in General Discussion
I myself a smoker surprisingly hate the smell myself as well as the taste, the only thing I find keeping me going is the addiction itself. So I don't really want to quit, what I hate is when people preech at us smokers!
Yeah, preachers suck most of the time. It's as if they think smokers don't know it's bad for them.
I see smoking as a character flaw in the person as much as most would see being a dickhead. But at least when you're a dickhead you don't ruin the lungs and body of the person standing next to you.
If you do some research you may find a few different opinions on the effects of 2nd hand smoke. As with anything though, keep in mind most sources are bias in one direction or another. Some people will go as far as to say 2nd hand smoke isn't harmful. Others say it's just as harmful as smoking.
If you feel like you have to have this thing every fifteen minutes during your day to go on or whatever then I think you've just got a problem. I admit I'm found of booze but I don't have a compulsive need to take breaks out of my working day to drink and I like gaming/anime but I don't get a little break to go do that to keep me going.
Ok, I highly doubt the average smoker has a cigarette every 15 minutes of the day. That's nearly 2 packs every 12 hours. Right now I've been cutting back on smoking. I'd say I smoke about as much as the average person eats. Which I might add is an activity everyone has to take time for. I have breakfast lunch and dinner everyday, so does that mean I have a problem? I'd also like to point out that as with nicotine, alcohol is addicting. As with anything addicting you run the risk of getting carried away. Some people do have the urge to go through the working day drunk. They're called alcoholics. Cigarettes tend to spread kind of like a virus. If you're friends with a lot of smokers it's not hard to pick up the habit. You may smoke a little bit when your drunk. You may just have a cigarette hear and there. Before you know it you're completely addicted and it's not a personality flaw. It could happen to anyone.
I don't smoke tobacco products, but I do, however smoke marijuana about once a week (sometimes every other week). Weed, unlike cigarettes, is a very social drug. The whole experience is something to be shared with by others. I never smoke alone, if you haven't figured that out yet.
This is kind of off subject but...what makes weed more of a social drug than nicotine? Usually it makes me anti-social and paranoid when I smoke with people I'm not already really good friends with. The only time I find it to be a social thing is when I'm to a certain point of being drunk. Mainly I just smoke it to chill and listen to music before I go to bed, or after a long day of work. However, I've had many conversations with people that spawned from "can I bum a cigarette?" Cigarette smokers kind of have this connection with each other. Most of the time they're forced to stand outside in the blistering cold and smoke. What else is there to do but small talk in that situation? -
I saw the trailer earlier today, and I must say I'm quite impressed. I've been waiting for a DS Zelda game since the release of the DS, and here it is. I can't say I enjoyed the whole sailing aspect of the wind waker. Hopefully you wont have to travel by boat as much in this new one. Other than that I don't have too many worries.

For some reason I'm under the impression that a lot of people take for granted how amazing it is to be a living creature. I don't know about other people, but I'm in constant amazement of my consciousness, and my perception of reality. I basically go through my day pondering reality, keeping in mind that the world is only as my brain perceives it to be. So basically if I were built another way the same world could seem completely different. I also think about death a lot. Not in a way that's depressing, I?m just very fascinated with it. Generally people like to assume that something happens after death, but really no one knows anything for sure (obviously). I'm agnostic (not to be confused with atheist), so while I don't deny the existence of a god, I don't believe there is one either. There is a chance that there is nothing whatsoever after death. If this is the case, there are a lot of things I can't imagine losing. Businesses among another things weird me out when I think about death. This will probably sound silly, but it just really weirds me out to think of things like McDonalds and death and the same time. I just can't put myself in a place mentally where everything I've ever known is gone. I didn't really start questioning everything in the way I do now until I got older and my views changed. It's interesting to look back on my childhood, and remember learning things in this world for the first time. I have these vague memories of learning to read. While it didn't seem as significant at the time, I think the process is pretty amazing now. When you simplify it, it involves looking at symbols and associating them with sounds. While I'm sure no one can remember learning how to talk, but nevertheless when it's simplified it's a very similar process to learning to read. Basically you're just associating objects with sounds. So through all this eventually these things get imbedded in your head and you start using them to communicate with other people. You also use these skills to analyze yourself and the world. It's very hard to imagine a world without language. So I'm just curious what everyone else?s thoughts are on this subject. The topic itself is pretty broad, so I expect some mixed responses, but I?d like to know your thoughts about life in general. I hope this all makes sense, I?m kinda tired.

I'd like a korg ms-20 synthesizer. Mr Ozio used it to make some awesome stuff on his analog worms attack album. I could probably get one on ebay, but i'd be paying way too much for it.

I've been thinking about getting this game for a while. Recently I've been getting into rhythm games, so this would be a great addition to my collection. The only thing that's been holding me back from this game is the difficulty. From what I've played in the store this game seems extremely easy. When I started playing DDR it took me a while before I could complete most of the songs on light mode. When played Donkey Konga in the store I cleared a song on both monkey and chimp mode my first time. Other than that the game seemed quite fun, I just don't think it would hold my interest as long as some other games would. What I'm hoping for is a sequel that's harder than the original. If that doesn't happen then I'll probably end up buying the game sooner or later.

You should check out the Boredoms. It's the only Japanese band that I listen to and in my opinion they're quite good. A lot of their stuff sounds like Fantomas. The lead singer was also on the John Zorn album "Naked City".

Does anyone else here like Captain Beefheart's music, or even know who he is? He did some work with Frank Zappa. He was on the album "Hot Rats", and I think he and Frank Zappa did a live album together. His style of writing music is very weird to say the least. I believe an Amazon.com reviewer described his music as being like one of those Magic Eye posters. He said it was multi-dimensional music. I don't know if I would agree with that 100%, but I understand what he's getting at, and it comes pretty close to describing it. Right now the only album of there?s I have is "Mirror Man Sessions", but I was going to get "Trout Mask Replica" sometime soon.

I love Pink Floyd, but I like their older stuff with Syd Barrett the best. Syd Barrett was an amazing song writer, and his influence in the early Pink Floyd music really added something. My favorite album is their first, The Piper at the Gates of Dawn.

What's living life to the fullest? The only reason we do anything is because we're human. The way I see it, we could be built to think and do just about anything for any reason. A great life for a human might be hell for an alien. What I'm getting at is you only care about certain things because you're human. The only time you will ever care about anything is when you're alive. You wont care about anything when you're dead, because you can't. Why worry about something in which you wont care about after it comes?
Originally posted by Hataki Vash I remember it, but I didnt think that it was that great. It tasted just like Mountain Dew, and I hated Mountain Dew so I never really drank it. But yea, I remeber it.
I don't see how you can say it tasted like Mountain Dew. I hate Mountain Dew, but I loved Surge.
Originally posted by Leh maybe if they do some better advertising, new look, and new taste, it'll sell better.
If they changed the look and taste, would it really be Surge anymore?

Does anyone remember this awesome citrus soda? Coca-Cola took it off the market because it wasn't selling very well. I was a big fan of the soda, and I was wondering if anyone else here was too. I used to ride my bike up to the store every so often (whenever I had the money) and get some Surge. My parents didn't want to buy it for me because it had a lot of caffeine in it. Surge is known as Urge in Europe and I believe it is still being sold. In the USA the only place you can find it is in soda fountains. There's a website called Save Surge that was made to bring back Surge. www.savesurge.org - Check it out if you want to fight to get Surge back in stores. Please share your thoughts or memories about this soda. I'm curious to know how many people remember it. I'm also curious to how many people like this soda.

I bought Showbiz a while ago, and recently I paid $24 for Absolution. I have yet to buy Origin of Symmetry, but I'm sure I will before too long. My friend bought it when he went to Europe so he wouldn't need to pay the import price for it here. Personally, I like Showbiz more than Absolution. If you were to ask me why, I wouldn't be able to tell you, but I think it's because Showbiz was my first exposure to Muse.

My favorite song from Damnation and a Day would have to be "Damned In Any Language (A Plague On Words)". I also love their instrumental songs; they really seem to set the mood. Every album makes you feel as if you're entering the gates of hell (in a good way). I would definitely recommend to Cradle of Filth to any metal fan. If anyone out there is a metal fan and doesn't know about Cradle of Filth you should at least download some of the samples off of amazon.com. I love cradle of filth, but Damnation and a Day certainly isn't my favorite album by Cradle of Filth. While I don't think many Cradle of Filth fans would agree with me, I think Midian is their best album. Edit: I ment to say my favorite song was "Better To Reign In Hell", which is what the song I said above runs into.

I've been a Simpsons fan for quite some time, so I'll join as well.

I hate it when people ask me what my favorite band is, because I can never give them a straight answer. It kind of depends on what day it is, how I feel, and what musical phase I'm currently going through. My musical phases so far have consisted of classical, jazz, rap, rock, and metal. I've never really liked country, but I do like some of Neko Case's solo stuff. It's very good countryish rock. Now, if I were to pick one band to call my favorite, it would probably be either Frank Zappa (well...favorite person), or Pink Floyd.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I remember Furbies having a select vocabulary. I'm almost positive you couldn't teach them to swear. Please provide a link to information about Furbies if you think I'm wrong, and not just a comment. A few years ago I bought one (long after the craze) for $10. The only reason I bought it was because my friend bet me too. I got some pretty strange looks from the people working the in the store I bought it, and especially from the person at the register. To make a long story short, it got run over by a car twice.

Has anyone here heard of this band? I'm really fond of their CD "In The Aeroplane Over The Sea". I also have "On Avery Island", but I prefer the first one stated. I tend to have a hard time describing music, but their music sounds like a mixture of folk and rock. Not only do I like the sound of this band, but the lyrics are also quite good. They have a website ( http://www.neutralmilkhotel.net ), but unfortunately I don't think they have any sound clips. If you would like to hear some samples (which I recommend you do) head on over to www.amazon.com .

The one time I listened to Celtic music I was in a car with "Party" written on the side. I was going through the mall parking lot (with some friends in the car) screaming "Party" at everyone. Some people screamed back, others smiled, and some people just flipped us off. Eventually we went into town and did the same thing. We even got a bus driver to start head banging. Good times.

Here's my desktop. I resized the image so you might have to squint. :P

Does anyone remember the "teenie beanie" babies from McDonalds? I tried to get one on several occasions but McDonalds was out of them. I think they sold them twice, the second time with different beanies, because it was so successful the first time. I was so jealous of a friend, because her sister worked at McDonalds and got her one of each. She also got the Christmas version of Teddy before I did. I ended up getting Christmas Teddy as a late Christmas present from my aunt.

Wow, I have about 50 of them in my closet. I was in 4th/5th grade when the craze hit, and I ended up buying a lot of them. I also got quite a few of them as gifts. I even have a beanie baby handbook that says how much they were worth. It's been a while since I've even thought about beanie babies. I remember saying that I was going to keep them around for the rest of my life and never get tired of them. It's been quite a few years since I've even looked at them now.

I saw it in London a long time ago. I loved it then, and I still love the music. There have been groups of people that travel around preforming it. I don't think these shows are up to par with the show on Broadway. When I saw it there were 2 members of the original cast. I don't think any of the original cast is still preforming, but depending on where you see it, it has the potential of being an amazing show.
