wrist cutter
You guys have any vocalists you just love? I'm listening to a song and just thinking "wow... I wish I could do that with my voice". Do you ever think that? Basically I'm asking which vocalists you think are really talented at what they do.

Well, the vocalist from New Found Glory (although I can do that voice too), but I forget his name. And also vocalist from System of A Down, his voice is so unique, I love it. Last, but definately not least is Corey Taylor from Stone Sour/Slipknot. I find him amazing that he can scream for that long and his singing in Stone Sour.. is just amazing, for a good example download 'Inhale' by Stone Sour. :)
Semjaza
I don't know that any of who I'm about to list would be considered amazing vocally to most people, but I find them unique enough to be worth mentioning. Phillips Exeter Blue I of Deadsy. P. Exeter Blue doesn't have an amazing range, in fact his voice is basically monotone when he sings. Somehow he can still do a lot with it, and a puts off a lot of emotion in ways I never really noticed from many bands of Deadsy's type. It's also amazing to me that he can sing in this way and not be just plain boring vocally. Mike Patton. Most people probably know him as the lead singer of Faith No More (at least after 1988), and probably think the band did nothing outside of the band "Epic." Faith No More put out several CDs (some with, and some prior to Patton), and he also was the lead of Fantomas, Mr. Bungle, some solo projects (it is amazing what this guy can do with just his voice and a mic) and upcoming releases from Tomahawk and Peeping Tom. I think most of what Patton has done has been excellent, and the fact that he can sing in so many bands with so many varying takes on genres is amazing. There is a CD Fantomas put out with nothing but classic movie themes, and Patton shows so much range at times with a really pure, or just really gruff voice. He changes at random, which is what I think makes his voice as great as it is. Francis Black of The Pixies. I'm sure most people think this guy sounds horrible, and honestly I'll admit he is nothing special at first. The way he belts out things so quick, changes his tone and alters his voice are really interesting to me though. And he has this patented yell that no one else does. I'd probably also include Kim Deal (played with Pixies, now is vocalist of The Breeders), who has a unique voice that no one really can duplicate. Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nails. Trent is really hit or miss, especially live... There are times when you can tell he just burned out from the tour. But when sings well, he can be amazing (again, especially live lol). He has more of a vocal range than a lot of people realize, and again I think the emotion in his voice makes up for his usually better than average vocal talent. Emotion can make up for a lot in songs for me, and totally makes a difference between two live versions of the same song he could do over a tour. Lastly David Bowie and Jim Morrison... Two people who I think are gods of music, and will never ever be replicated. Image, message or sound wise. Bowie has always been ahead of his time in my opinion, and his vocals have gone through many different stages. I don't think many top him in pure musical talent right now. Morrison is best in the live stuff I've heard, and carries more emotion in one live song or poem than most bands do in their lifetimes lately. I'd also list Philip Anselmo of Pantera and Down... Yes all he does is scream, but if you have listened to his actual downbeat songs where he sings, he has an amazing voice considering. It's probably just great to me because it was such a huge surprise lol. I'd also list the lead singer of godhead (beautiful deep voice, somewhat simliar to Deadsy, but not monotone). Oh, and the lead singer of Curve (I forget her name). She just has an outright beautiful voice. And I wrote too much again... It's early :D
OlgaTheDwarf
In my opinin Mark Salomon of the band Stavesacre has the most amazing singing voice of any band. For screaming it would either go to Dan Weyndant of Zao or the former lead vocals of the band .hopesfall. (his name escapes me at the moment.) Another notable voice is Brandon Rike's from Dead Poetic.

amibasuki
I love the way Mariah Carey sings. I just hate how she changed her image and music style and became trashy :demon:. some other female singers I like are Celine Dion and Sarah McLachlan. can't think of any particular favorite male singers at the top of my head right now. She has such an amazing voice and she just wastes it on this music she's been doing lately... her older stuff was quite good though.
PiroMunkie
Davey Havok, the vocalist for AFI. I swear that guy has his own octive, lol. I often find myself wishing I could sound like him when I sing. Tim Armstrong, the lead vocalist for Rancid. Sure he may not have a nice "flowy" kind of voice, but it fits their music really well. In turn, it makes it sound good. I think my voice would give out if I tried to duplicate the sound. That's all I can think of right now...
Anna
I agree w/ Piro on the Davey guy; really impressive. I agree with pretty much all the singers that have been listed so far. Personally, I'd love to be able to sing like Tamara from Sonica. Her voice is sooo beautiful.... powerful with an edge but sensual and pretty. I'd give my right foot to sing like her. Oh yeah, now that I think of it the lead singer for NFG is Jordan Pundik. His voice is alright, you certainly have to give him props because I haven't heard many guys with his upper ranged-tone (heh, I made a new word ^_^). A good strong tenor he is! And, if it were possible, I'd LOVE to be able to have Nick Hexum's voice from 311. ::melts into a puddle of goo:: GAWL his voice is perfect, I love it. Lovelovelovelove it. And Brett Scallions (Fuel) can sing, too. Man, what passion and energy...... he sings very powerfully in my opinion. I don't care much for the music--it's alright I guess--but I listen to Fuel for Brett's voice. Has anyone mentioned Maynard yet? Maynard (APC, Tool) is a really good singer (among other things). Hmmm....... this is all I can think of for now.
Kinetic
I'd have to say the lead singer of Metallica (I can't seem to find his name) or Kurt from Nirvana. They both have such unique voices. Not very meloic voices, but voices I have always loved.
Rancid
Lars Frederiksen from Rancid, Adam Sandler....I can't think right now...Joey and Johnny from The Ramones. There's more but I can't think.

Sere Tuscumbia
Michelle Branch. That woman can SING. And Betty Buckley from "Cats". The woman who made the song "Memory" such a famous song among musical fans. Ah, that woman is wonderful . . . There's others, but those are the only ones fresh on my mind right now. Possibly Anthony Stewart Head . . . ooo, listen to the bass notes . . .

lol Yeah, the guy who plays Giles is a good singer. It's just funny that you mentioned him. I never really thought of him as a singer. Some people I think have good voices are Stevie Wonder, Barry White, Mariah Carey, and Michael Jackson when he was still in the Jackson 5.
Transtic Nerve
James Hetfield is the lead singer of Metallica Johnathan Davis is the lead singer for Korn... How odd is it that I, of all people, know that.

And, don't laugh, I'd have to say Enya. She's got some good stuff, really!
Flash
I think Jonathan Davis fro KoRn has a really awesome voice. Wish I could sing like that--Because it's really hard to, on account of he's so good at it.

Kinetic
Another voice I would love to have is Gavin Rosedale's from Bush. He has such a unique voice and his accent is awesome when he sings.
Anna
Ah yes, Enya is beautiful. James Hetfield from Metallica is definately awesome as well. MICHAEL JACKSON can SING y'all. Sure he's got a really high range and a lot of people are turned away from him altogether because of tabloid propaganda (and I personally don't believe a word of it), but you have GOT to admit that he is one the most incredible artists of all time. Not only does he has magnificent energy in his voice but he can dance like no other.
Omar Harris
He may not be a professional but I love the voice of Wayne Brady. Professionals with good voices: Stevie Wonder, Barry White (my friends say I have his deep voice), Mark Anthony, the lead singer of Lifehouse. BabyGirl
I am simply in love with Ewan McGregor's voice in Moulin Rouge. Even though he's an actor, his voice is incredibly beautiful. I also think that Brandon Boyd from Incubus has an amazing voice. He's just overall wonderful  I'm sure I'll offend some Red Hot Chili Peppers fans by saying that their lead singer is horrible live. If you can't sing well when singing live, then [I personally believe] that definitely puts you on a much lower talent level.

treton_noir
my definition of a good vocalist requires the subject's voice to be unique sounding instead of the generic singing voice employed by the likes of lifehouse, the calling, our lady peace, etc. my good vocalists (and not necessarily my favorites) include: - maynard james keenan(tool) & (a perfect circle) -anthony kiedis and flea(RHCP) -rob zombie(white zombie) -marilyn manson -kurt cobain(nirvana) -billy corgan(smashing pumpkins) -eddie vedder(pearl jam) -serj tankian(system of a down) -liam gallagher(oasis) -scott weiland(stone temple pilots) -les claypool(primus) -maxim and keith (the prodigy) the list goes on. oh, and the comment about anthony kiedis(RHCP) live also applies to dave grohl(foo fighters).
