Phantom
Last year I came across some rather startling facts. Mostly the startling part is that the average student aged transversly between 13-18, wake up far later than the average school start time. Here in southern Ontario, the public highschools start at 8Am. It was said in the article presented to use by our law teacher that the average student isn't even awake until well after 10Am. This node of controversy was apperntly derived from the fact that early morning testing has been spoiled due to the students not acheiving any high scores whatsoever. Currently, all the tests I have ever written before 10Am have been utter sucesses, and the fact that I am not affected by it surprises me because I almost always feel dead in the morning...like a Zombie. Ide like for some members to share their feelings toward this issue, may it be complete contrary to my feelings or complete agreement. I want to know how you feel in the morning, and if you score highly on early tests or not... and/or if you agree or disagree with me on the statement that we dont even wake up until well into the morning? I dont think we do, but I do think if we try, testing can be easily won, even if your dead sleeping. ->MK
Dan L
In the morning I just pretty much switch off.. if I have a lecture, and the lecturer has already made notes for us.. good, I can just amuse myself for a few hours in my own little world.. If not, I still do that, and then look up what the lecture was about when I get home.. In short, in the morning, it all goes in, then goes straight out, as far as highly intelligent biochemical concepts are concerned.. But I've never really thought about a link between my exam score and the time of theexam, so I couldn't tell you...
Circ
I start college (I think that's the equivalent to our CEGEPs) at 8:00, I'm up at 6:00 so that my lift comes pick me at 7:00 (Yeah, I study a bit out of my reach XD). I'm pretty awake in the morning. I get a REAL down, however, around 3:00 to 5:00 pm. I'm usually snoring in my Chemistry classes at those ours XD
Mitch
If it's Monday, I'm out in the morning. If it's any other day of the week, early tests really have no dissipation via my sleepiness. It's just usually Mondays that I'm pretty out of it all. But yes, I do think earlier morning tests are effected by our tiredness.
Red
I'm the man who needs his sleep but refuses to sleep at the right time :D Because of this, I'm always incredibly tired at the start of each day. However, I still perform well in exams regardless of the time of day or how tired I am. Then again, I've never had to face an early morning exam on a Monday, lol.
Guest Matt
MY school starts at 7:40 AM, so I have go get there pretty early. Usually no one is awake until about 3rd period.
Transtic Nerve
It's been well documented, as forseen, that high school aged children are not fully awake (meaning their attention span is not at full scale) when the average highschool starts. In fact, it became a rather controversial item my senior or junior year. A law went to be passed that would change highschool starting time till after Middle school (middle school starts at 8:30 or 9 here) so that highschool kids could gain more from their education, ofcourse it didn't pass. People just don't care. I didn't what time school started, I still went to be at 1:30 am and woke up at 6:00 am.
Sara
I really don't have problems with tiredness, unless I'm sick. My school starts at 7:16; I wake up at five thirty to catch the bus. I go to bed earlier than most of my friends, but...that's just what I do.

I never do well on tests if they're early in the morning because my brain is still fast asleep. I had an algebra test today which just happens to be in second period, so my brain was off most of the time. I hope I did well..... Lady Asphyxia
I'm like a zombie last two hours of school on Friday afternoon, when all of the late hours and early risings catch up wtih me....until then, I'm pretty alright.
Lilac oranges
i could belive that...i can never concentrate in school until after morning tea...but i think its more that most students today don't go to sleep until 10pm...to be able to work/live to your full potential your supposed to get 10-12 hours of sleep a night and the last two hours of that are the most important. so someone going to sleep at 10pm and getting up at 6am for school misses those two important hours of sleep. *madEE*
I know what you guys mean, when I was in school or when I had to wake up early for work or a game I was never really able to concentrate on what I was doing. But now my hours when I sleep are really weird...I sleep some days for 16 hrs and others for 2 hrs. I stay awake all night and sleep during the day. So I do feel like a zombie at times, being the only one awake at night, and a vampire in the morning. :D
enigma
I don't have much of a problem with sleeping. I usually get good hours, so I wake up somewhat refreshed. Not running around like a maniac everywhere, but not collapsing on the bathroom floor either. I do get tired though during the last subject at school on friday when it's really humid. The only thing that keeps me awake is everyone's snoring, or if I'm doing german, the two loud high pitched voices of constant nagging, complaining and winging of two painful pains in the ***(pardon the censor). "It's too cold, it smells funny in here, can i get a drink, etc." So that always keeps me awake, and insane.
The Harlequin
I don't have much problem with sleeping. I usually get good hours... none. I sleep as little as is humanly possible. Which is normally three of four hours a day, at most. I do fine on tests, whenever they are. That's right everyone, give up sleeping! And food! And water! I've done all three, and I'm kind of okay...
Phantom
I have tried that...still aced tests...still did fine..just felt like i was ready to die after every step after about four months of it.
Dan L
whoa.. if we had schools starting over here in the UK, any earlier than 8:30, we'd feel sorry for the kids.. our schools don't normally start until around 8:45 at the earliest (though it does depend).. so the kids aren't that tired in the morning.. Makai Kite
I'm always tired. My best friend is a culinary miracle known as coffee. I end up waking up at 5:15 in the morning every morning for school, but I drink a really caffienated cup of coffee (w00t!)each day.
Sui Generis
My school starts at 7:30 and I'd have to say everyone in our school is dead for atleats the first hour. 'Cept me. I've discovered the miracle of our schools Cappaccino machine! So yeah I'm pretty much wired in the morning. However before I get that coffee, you could hit me in the head with a baseball bat and I wouldn't know. But yes tests are definatly affected in the morning! Even though its the opposite with me because of caffeine withdraws!
Muse
Man.... You should see me in the morning, I swear, its Morning of the Living dead. I have these deep, black bags under my eyes and I cant stop yawning. For the past few weeks, I have been going to bed at 10:00, but actually falling asleep and 1:00. I have been yawning in class and barely paying attention. I dont know how to sleep well. But as for tests, the good thing is our class is divided into two classrooms, and the smarter kids(that being me) go into AM reading at 9:30, and Reading(next to Spelling, of course) is my best subject, so I ace all of my tests. So by 11:30(PM Math, the most uncoolest part of the day) I am rejuvanated(sp?) and ready for bordism. So I do OK on my Math tests because I have played with my friends and gotton the urge to fall asleep face down on my desk;) So yeah... I am more of a Vampire than a zombie due to some...ah... intersing features...
TheShinje
I never had a problem with getting up, my course starts at 8.30, so I'm usually up by 7, it's staying awake that's the trouble :p However, soince the multimedia course is so exciting! i've not had that problem since leaving high school
Fall
Man, all these shool's that start at 7:30/8:00. That's like just after dawn here. My school starts at 9:30. So I'm up by 9, have a quick shower and at school by atleast 10. :D
Spikey
Let see...I go to bed at 10:00, wake up at 5:00, that's about 7 hours is the most I get each day. They say that people need at least 8:00 hours of sleep. I don't believe that. I don't, and I'm just fine. When I wake up, I'm ready to go. I don't really have a problem with it. I get up, change, eat a little, got to gramp's house, get on the computer, and then get on the bus. Not alot. My school starts at 8:30, but high-school starts at 7:30. Since I wake up at 5:00, it's not much of a problem.
amibasuki
usually I get up at 5:30am so I can be at a church seminary class that starts at 6:30. I'm usually dead in that class, though sometimes I actually manage to stay awake for most of the class period. by the time I get to school for 1st period at 7:45, some the sleepiness has worn off (unless I did something like pull an all-nighter *wince*), but it's still pretty much there. I would've thought I'd get the worst grades in that class, considering it's Algebra, and I'm usually horrible at math. but it's actually the class that I've got the highest grades in this year. go figure. so no, I don't think lack of sleep has to do with whether you get good grades or not. I'm probably one of the best examples you'd find anywhere, lol. though if you try keeping it up for long enough, it could start to get ugly....
Rhys Mayiessen
Hey cool Mystic's Knight is from Ontario too! Anyways my highschool starts at 8:40 so I ususally get up at 7:30. I have no problem getting up in the morning. Right when I suppose to get up I do. I don't stay in my bed and say that I need ten minutes more of sleep and I'm perfectly okay thoughout the day!:D
