Guest Imsirion
yes, its that special time, I'm 15, just got my permit, and started Traffic Education....... and I'm pretty nervous. Thinking about driving and seeing people drive is increasing the feeling, especially now that I practice. I keep it to myself and act normal but I'm kinda scared at the thought. Dont get me wrong, I want to drive, just a bit nervous. Those who drive now, do you remember what it was like, learning to drive, taking tests and doing those school drives? Those who haven't yet, how do you feel? Seeing my permit gives me that giddy scared feeling:D
Phantom
Its a good experiance...you are bettering yourself..and in the end its nothing to be all giddy about.. Its only driving...
1337
Hmmm, I should be able to get my Temps sooner or later, I'm all raedy 15 and a half...I am somewhat nerveous, and I'm sure I'll be a half-assed driver at first, but we'll get the hang of it; my parents did, and I'm smarter than they are! :) :p
Sara
I'm sixteen, and I have my temps. I hate driving. I find it hugely stressful. And I had possible the worst Behind-the-Wheel instructor on the face of the earth.
Kinetic
I was very nervous when I drove a stick-shift (that's all I've driven, unfortunately. And I know I'm 14, sue me :p). I still am nervous, but at least now I know that I am capable of it. I still had that trouble when I switched over to third gear, and that time when I nearly crashed, which would have totalled both of my cars, probably killing me, but other than that, I can't wait to drive! :blulaugh: E D I T: Geez, look how many people posted while I was typing :p
Guest Imsirion
I never wanted to drive untill I started class, but still, If I lived in a big city where I could get around everywhere by foot and bus, I wouldn't bother to learn how to drive. Since I live in a small town with an unclear future, Its somewhat an nessesity. Sometimes I want to drive, then I'll dread it the next moment.:drunk: Hence, the "giddy scared" feeling as I like to call it:)
Deedlit
I wish I could drive....-__-;;;; Just two more years before I can get my learner's permit......
Kent
I actually didnt have a very hard time with driving, but I would suggest the one thing... focus... I know... that sounds stupid. But I mean it in one way. Focus on whats infront of you. I know,... you still need to pay attention to 360 degrees of your enviroment. But I am saying that when your cruising next to that big rig and getting nervous pay attention to whats directly infront of you and only focus on staying in the lines. also, remember that its not your driving you must worry about, its the driving of the people around you. good luck and remember, practice makes better and keep your cool. oh yea, look both ways! Mike
I'm 15, going to take the Drivers Ed. this summer. :) In a way I can't wait, but I also don't wanna go out on the road, what if I get hit or hit someone? lol. I know what you mean with that giddy-scared feeling...like you are excited, but scared to go out there. Edit: Some would probably say it's like a leap off a diving board, which I've never taken. I can't swim. :p
Guest Imsirion
Focusing would be good, since others dont do it. Stupid kids at my school drive with the windows down with blaring music and they do stupid things like not stopping at stop signs and going out of turn at 4 way stops. Hey, how much does your guys D.E. cost, mines 320$.
BabyGirl
Driving is great! Don't be nervous; don't be overzealous. Being nervous while driving can cause you to wig out at random, inoportune times, and can lead to drivers being angered by your inexperienced driving. Keep confident and remember that you have just as much right to be on the road as everyone else. Being overzealous while driving can lead to excessive speeds of 110 miles per hour on the freeway while dangerously weaving in and out of 6 lanes of LA traffic! That angers people even more than slow, inexperienced drivers :toothy: You'll find your own niche to fall into as you drive more! Just don't drive like the Southern Californians... :grumble: As for the stick-shift issue...ehe! Those are fun ^-^ Hard as hell to learn how to drive (for me, at least), but it's so worth the effort!
Kinetic
Driving a manual is easy to understand, it's just performing it that is so hard :p I had it going good (although, I was on a road that nearly no one drives on and I was probably going 35 in 2nd gear :p I was extremely nervous, yet extremely excited. It's when I switched over to 3rd gear that I messed up. I didn't work the clutch right and the gears started clanking, so my mom grabbed the wheel and I eased on the breaks, stepping out of the car :p But yeah, it was a great experience, and sometimes my mom will tell me to grab the wheel (while I'm in the passenger's seat) and steer, but that's kind of hard because I'm not the ideal height and can't see how close I am to the curb :p
Semjaza
I didn't like drivers ed. It actually took me a year (to the exact date lol) to completey finish it. It's 2345345634 times more aggrivating to drive with some weird guy staring at you writing stuff than it is to actually drive. Even more annoying was I kept getting this guy who loved pressing his break when it wasn't needed. The actual driving test at the DMV was easy. Drove 3 blocks, did a Y turn and parked in a diagonal spot. That was it, and I got my license. Great thing to have, especially if you get a car right away. Being able to go nearly anywhere you want while playing whatever music you want is a really great thing. If you want to learn manual... Rent a car and pay for the insurance. You can then practice on that car without worrying about messing it up. You're covered :). A lot of people here seem to do that.

The instructor at the DMV was nice when I took my test. I'm just glad they don't make us parallel park (I'm still scratching up the tires). My biggest issue is parking in general. I can't parallel park unless I'm on the corner and I'm too afraid to try to park between two cars in a parking lot. My biggest fear is running over a pedestrian. :nervous: The first time I took lessons, I over-shot the stop-sign and didn't come to a complete stop until I was half-way across the intersection. I haven't done that since, but sometimes it still scares.
*madEE*
I also felt a little nervous at first, but as soon as I turned 16 I was forced to learn how to drive!! LOL my dad wanted someone else in the house that he could trust to drive, even now my sister is 2 yrs older and still doesn't know how to drive. But I had to get my learners, take the classes, lessons and the test all within a month. So I was a little nervous to begin with. It was worth it in the end b/c he got me a car, but I'm always one of the drivers when we go out with friends. :( But I don't drink and drive no worries. All I have to say is it gets better with time, especially since you start to relax. But don't get carried away, and like others say FOCUS!! And don't drink and drive!! Other then that have fun!!:D
Lilac oranges
you guys can drive when your 15....what country are you in? i'm in aus and we can't even get our learners permit until where 16 and 6 mnths!
Kinetic
Yeah, we can get our permits at 15, and 16 for the liscence I believe. But in Texas, I think they made some idiotic rule where you still have to be with a driver over 21 until you're 18, then you can drive alone. Mitch
Driving is one of the most stressful things I have experienced. It just seems to make me nervous all over. What's more my parents tease me everyday because I'm sixteen and don't have my license. And then, whenever I drive with my Dad, every little error that I make he screams at me and pops me lightly in the head. Which only succeeds into making me even more stressed and driving worse. Blah. But I can drive fine. I just never know where in the world I am going. Well, I know from my street and some other places....but I hate that sense of feeling lost. That's the worst thing about driving to me. All the rest was easy.

Me well I'm 14 and have had my learner's permit since March. The first time I got behind the wheel though was very scary! I was deathly scared, because we have some insane driver's here in Kansas so people kept zooming by me and barely missing me...I was going insane! >.<...but anyways I'm better now, its a great way to travel... And as they always saying...Driving is a privledge not a right...
Guest Imsirion
Thanks for the encouragements guys. Its always good to have it. I'm not as nervous as before but It'l most likely kick in next time I practice. Last time I drove, I all most ran down a volleyball net. (really:o ) Kids at my school dont seem to be the most sensible drivers, I came inches away from getting hit while walking home from school. I was coming tyo the road when a girl in a car stopped at the same time and she didn't put on her turn signal. I thought she was going straight of course so I stepped into the road and she suddenly took a sharp right and all most hit me. What made me mad is she didn't even notice! She was messing with something on the ground and popped up after she almost hit me. I think what kinda worries me is being on the same road as those kinds of people.:drunk:

Pepper
Everyone (at least those who've never driven) think driving is this big joyride. Really? It sucks. I drive just fine, leave me with the car and it'll be okay...may smell like Strawaberry perfume but it'll be O.k. My biggest driving fears are giant shipping trucks, bridges and those really sharp corners on the edges of cliffs n' stuff. I fear the trucks 'coz one might just fall on me one day, the bridges 'cause they bust all the time and the cliff paths 'cuz i may drive off one o.O;;. I have credible fears. And as for you and that woman who didnt know what she was doing, there are more like her on the road. They're called drunk drivers.
