Yeah, Quiter is the one posting this rumor. They've been pretty reliable... But people have been known to translate stuff of the site incorrectly. The authors of the page have put up games they hope to see as articles quite often, and people over here get a little too excited lol.

That doesn't seem to be the case with this game though, as they have actual quotes from Square about it... Basically saying the game is still so popular, they think it would be a good decision. Another, something along the lines of them not making it until they could be guaranteed it would be a great game.

Either way, should be pretty cool... FFX2 isn't doing it for me haha.

Woohoo! FFVII sequel! Yeeeaaahhh! ...* cough* ...I mean, uh, I really hope this happens. The only thing I would be worried about, if they do make a sequel to FFVII, though, would be being disappointed if it's not as good as the first FFVII. FFVII was one of the best in the series, and there's a lot to live up to. I just hope that they can pull it off.

Yeah, this sequal has got tons to beat, or even match the greatness of FFVII. I mean, if they really massacre the sequal, I will be very sad. :(

Let's just hope that they will do a good job on it. :)

Death threats are always good, aren't they? o_o;

If they seriously are doing that, I don't think they'll be able to pull it off successfully. They'll need to keep it in the same style as FFVII, but with something not familiar to everyone already. Like maybe character past quests, or a new character that isn't cheesy or hated because she/he's new, or a whole sidequest to do with Zack. Or something.

No, he's not. I definately don't want this to happen.

If it's a sequal, it would completely ruin the ending of FFVII for me. Not only that, if it is a sequal, they would probably bring Aeris back from the dead, which would ruin her death scene.

Now, a prequal might be interesting... But I still wouldn't want it. If it contains any of the characters from FFVII, then we'd all ready know what basically happens.

What do you mean "There gonna make a sequal already"? FF7 was released in 1997 if I remember correctly, and its still unknown when the sequel will be released (2-3 years is my guess), so basically the sequel will be released 7-8 years after FF7 was released!

This was just posted on IGN.com:

November 11, 2002 - In an interview with Japan's Dori-Maga (the former Dreamcast Magazine, now turned multi-platform), Square's Yoshinori Kitase made some comments regarding the possibility of a direct sequel to Final Fantasy VII. Kitase has participated in the development of all Final Fantasy games since part five of the series and now heads the company's R&D 1 team which is currently working away at FFX-2.
"A sequel to FFVII?" comments Kitase while laughing. "In truth, there are many who'd like to make such a game, Nomura, who's working on Kingdom Hearts Final Mix, included. Many of the Square staff participated in the development of FFVII, and the memories are strong. Additionally, expressing the world of FFVII using today's technology would certainly be interesting (laughs).

"However, FFVII still has many fans," he continues. "We couldn't make a bad product (laughs)."

Continuing in response to the question of his team's plans for the term beginning April of 2003 (FFX-2 comes out in March), Kitase says, "Our plans are not yet set for the coming term. Whether we'll work on a brand new title or a sequel to a title that we already have I don't know yet, but I'd personally like to make something new."

So, to recap, Kitase laughs a lot and many of the Square staff has interest in a sequel to FFVII while Kitase himself is more interested in working on something new. The majority of Kitase's R&D 1 staff worked on FFVII, though, so if were were to see a FFVII-2 (a game which, we fear, would almost certainly feature a love sequence involving Tifa and and jive-talkin' Barret), Kitase and his team would be the likeliest source.

Stay tuned for more.

I don't think that this confirms anything. He has said nothing different to what Miyamoto said when asked if there would be a new Kid Icarus game. He pretty much said "some people would like to see a new one, but I'd rather do something new".

I strongly doubt that a sequel to FFVII will appear, given that this article doesn't seem to provide any indication that it will. But you never know; stranger things have happened. ;)

Just remember that its under CONSIDERING. I read somewhere (...?) that the producers are going to see how FFX-2 will work and THEN decide if they should make another sequel.

Yeah, maybe a sequel from FFVII WOULD be cool, but definately with a WHOLE new cast of characters. But FFVII-style plot combined with modern graphics... *sigh of amazement*

I don't want them to make a sequel to FFVII. It was a good game, but adding a sequel will definitely take away from the original. Plus, as crappy as I thought the ending was, I still believe that the game still came to a final-enough end. Why screw around with it? I am anxiously awaiting the sequel to FFX, because ended such thata sequel would perfectly complement the game. This not being the case with FFVII, they should just leave it alone!

I would have to agree with darkness that final fantasy VII really didn't have an open ending. What i think is that Final fantasies producers should just stick with what they did before.NO SEQUELS.I know they are just trying to make money but giving final fantasy a sequel is just a bad idea for final fantasy games.

Beh. It's pretty possible that if they were to make a FFVII sequel, it would never be able to match up to the first game.

The first game just was magic, and magic doesn't repeat itself over and over again, it occurs in sparse and uneven crumbles of ground.

Eh, anways, as James said, that article doesn't even point anything out. It gives the idea that it may be so, but when something's not clearly stated, it's usually just for rumor and upbuild, or just to dissapoint.

Well, a prequel (in my opinion) is going to shed some light on some confusing matters in the game. A sequel would be hard to do, considering that the story isn't left with an open ending, really.

A re-make for the PS2 would do just dandy though. :)

A prequel might be nice, especially for some explanation on Sephiroth and Cloud/Zak. The problem is, any kind of sequel--be it pre or otherwise--would really ruin FF7 itself for me. Most plot questions were answered in the game (except for WHO is that VOICE that keeps talking to Cloud?!?), and any further explanation would be grinding the plot into the ground a little too hard. Dull.

A love sequence between Barrett and Tifa? Now that is scary. And I agree that
Aeris should stay dead--not because I don't like her, but because bringing her back to life would spoil the emotional effect of her sacrifice
.

For the most part, FF7 stands alone as a great game. A sequel might include the aftermath, but that seems rather, well, dull, to me.

Something to remember--FF7 reminded us that everything does NOT have a happy ending, and painful stuff happens. Saying otherwise in a sequel--that everything will be magically ok and fine--will dampen the general theme of FF7.

*stopping now; sick; tired; sick and tired of being sick and tired*
