Sons of Liberty:

Metal Gear Solid 2: sons of liberty (SOL).
The maximum thrill infiltration without being spotted by the enemy. The world's first and finest, ultimate "stealth" game recored sales of over 6 million copies. MGS2: S (japanese version) featuring English voices, allows selection of Japanese and english text with 6 difficulty levels.

VR Missions:

Infiltration training in VR environments. Pursue ultimate game play. MGS2, with various gameplay elements, allows you to pursue different action options. "VR missions" focus on each gameplay element individually. Different clearing conditions exist for the various stages allow you to play them over and over to beat the highest score.

-sneaking mode: there or 2 kinds of stages- "sneaking" missions that allow you to experience MGS's most basic fun of avoiding being spotted by the enemy and heading for the goal, and "eleminate all" missions which the goal appears after gaking out all enemies.

-Weapons mode: A mode in which you practive using the weapons from SOL.

variety mode: special training under various conditions. this is our challenge for totally new gameplay using the MGS2 system. Experience a completely different MGS.

Alternative Missions

Realistic training utilizing SOL environments. Snake running around in the Plant, diffusing bombs on the tanker, etc. etc. provide "enjoyment" completely different from what you experienced in SOL.

Bomb Disposal Mode: Diffuse bombs by finding them and freezing them. Discover the cleverly hidden bombs with the first person view- the battle against time revisited.

Elemination Mode: Take out all enemies. althrough the basics of the infiltration spy action game MGS is avoiding battle, here your objective is to take out every single enemy. shoot like you've never shot before! slice like you've never sliced before!

Hold Up Mode: make all enemies hold up while feeling the tension crawling up on you.

Photograph Mode: Take photos as instructed. Some of these are simple photoshooting; and other involve real thinking. Complete objectives involving various "themes."

Snake Tales

Snake, who was available only in the Tanker Chapter of SOL, is now the hero. Play through the 5 different stories by completely different missions assigned accordingly.

I'm not really surprised that this thread hasn't gotten much feedback, considering how the game hasn't released for the PS2 yet.

I haven't even picked it up for Xbox, with all the quality software being released. The game should be a good value, depending on how elaborate the enhancements are. I, like many others, felt a bit burned with MGS 2 when it released, so I'm a bit weary of buying an expansion of a year old game that just wasn't very good to begin with.

The return of Meryl sounds intriguing though, pending it's not a brief guest appearance and really adds something to the storyline.

I just saw an awesome commercial for this game.

It was actually really funny and in the end, the guy sneaking around got caught and it showed a little cg exclamation mark over his head.


But what really got me, was that it made the point repeatedly, only on xbox.

So whats the deal, is it really only for xbox?

Currently, the game is only available for Xbox. However, it should be available for the Playstation 2 early next year. The situation is similar to Splinter Cell. The Xbox receives the game first, closely followed by other consoles. Although, Substance won't release on the GameCube to my knowledge.

I like most others won't pick this up. I was pissed when after the tanker I was stuck with raiden and couldn't be snake. I mean the whole point of the game is to be snake damnit that's why I played the previous games. Also the storyline didn't stand up to the last games and it had that stupid ending that just totally pissed me off.

MGS2 was, in my total opinion, one of the worst games of that year. I have no plans to get Substance at all, but I am interested in seeing how the PC version turns out.

The Xbox version supposedly has lots of framerate problems and such as the game was made for PS2 hardware. Apparently the actualy game itself was simply ported over and not tweaked in any way. For example, the rain in the first scene slows the game down. I've talked to a few people who have it, and they all tell me the same.

I guess if you really want it, you're best off waiting for the PS2 version, which comes early next year like CWB said.

There is talk going around that MS might have grabbed Splinter Cell for itself... Although you never know, as whenever there is a temporary exclusive (such as Dead to Rights on GC and PS2 or Substance on PS2), the media is basically stuck on a blackout and is not allowed to talk of the other versions. So I'm hoping.

Eh, Im not too excited about it. MGS2 was rushed, and I hated the fact that they had raiden. That made the game so damn bad. And I'v sort have lost interest in the series.

Metal Gear Solid 2 was the best game of the year, and probably of all time. I loved the story, and how you could be Raiden for almost the entire game! The game was very well made, and I loved the ending. W00!!!!!!!!!! :)

Ahh, had to get that off my chest. To much negativity. ;) People who know me know that I'll be getting Substance. It has everything from the original (duh) and more, making it so that you can have more guns, different costumes, and even play as Snake through the whole game for those of you who disliked it for that reason only. They have more stuff too, like VR missions and such, playing out like a directors cut of Metal Gear Solid 2. I'm just angry that Microsoft got to the game first.

HAHAHAHA...[i]that[/i] commercial. OMG, that has to be the best video game commercial I've ever seen. It had him crawling around, running in a box, then at the end...LOL..he gets caught outside his window and the exclamation mark goes off. :bluesweat

I'm not exactly a Raiden fan, and I prefer Liquid over Solidus, but that game was awesome. (I completed it about an hour ago o_o;)
The dog tag collecting, the guards' reaction to being aimed at with a Stinger at the testicles, lol. The game is so detailed down from hitting your head inside a locker to the way the smoke blows with the wind in the Tanker level.[/b]

I'll give it this the gameplay, graphics and controls were awesome. Collecting dog tags, taking pictures and all of the past games features was great too. But the storyline towards the end just got stupid. There was also to much fmv and some of the radio conversations go on for more than 45 minutes thats just overkill to me. That and I bought the game so I could be Snake not some noob agent. The whole Jack and Rose thing was funny for about a 1/4 of a second before it just got on your nerves. Finally the last couple of boss battles were so simple that it's not even a challenge at the highest difficulty.
