Syk3
Actually, it really is anything but funny. In fact, it's one of the first serious episodes of Cowboy Bebop. Not that it isn't cool, not at all, it's my absolute favorite session. But I do think that AnimeGurl needs to watch her post quality a *little* bit. Kinda throws folks off a bit. ;) I don't really think that you need to be making an entirely new thread about this session. I'm not a mod, but if you like this session why not post so in the Favorite Sesion topic?
Guest AnimeGurl
What? The laughing icon doesn't have anything to do with the episode..."Anyway"... Ballad Of Falling Angels is one of my fav. episodes
Shy
AnimeGurl, we do not need a seperate thread for each episode of the series. Please do not make any more. Ballad of Fallen Angels is one of my top three favorite episodes of Cowboy Bebop (with My Funny Valentine and Cowboy Funk), and this is the episode that made me seriously interested in the series. This session takes the show to an entirely different level, and the battle between Spike and Vicious is one of the greatest anime battles of all time. I can hear "Rain" playing in my head right now, time to get out some of my DVDs... -Shy
vegeta rocker
As I have said before but must say again this is a perfect episode of Cb. Green Bird is running through my mind now...... Rain is also good, vicious and spikes lives reach a new level of hate.
RoseofDawn
yeah i just saw this episode last night....the music and flashbacks as he falls out of the window are great..... and then his line "you sing off-key".... that was awesome... spike speigel
I absolutely love this episode! it's my all time favorite. Why do you love the episode? Guest Chaz $
My favorite session has to be Asteroid Blues because the story introduces Spike and his cool attitude/fighting style. -Chaz $
Change
ROFL... Balled of Fallen Angels, in my oppinon is a good episode. However, if one looks for truly deeper meaning in the series, they will see that it is only a plot device, it lackes the Greater themes of Black Dog Sarrande, Cowboy Funk, Jupiter Jazz I/II, Hark Luck Woman, and The Real Folk Blues I/II. Why are most people drawn to it, the action! However, I have debated with Shyguy and I personaly belive that The Real Folk Blues II had much more acion and was much more satifying than Ballad of Fallen Angels. L.A. Rod.
I must admit(in response to the previous reply) that when I first saw Ballad of Fallen Angels, I was drawn to it mainly for the action, but I disagree that it doesn't have deep meaning to it. Questions for you to debate about with yourself are given in session #1, and some of these questions are scraped away in session #5 but without truly being answered, which keeps the veiwer in tune to learn more. Thus, a viewer is drawn back to this episodes for much more than the action portion of it. In session #26, there are little questions left to be asked(with the exeption of material that was not answered to you in the flashbacks alone, which is why this series is so fantastic), and it is the theme, as {SITH} Change stated, and emotion that makes this episode a landmark in the series besides the fact that it is the final episode. To say that it is much more satisfying than session#5, however, is a different discussion.
Hybrid
My favourite Sesson is "My funny Valentine" because this is when you find out about Faye's (my favourite Character) past and that she was frozen after an accident. I did enjoy "Ballad Of Fallen Angels" alot though, I loved when Spike was using two pistols at the same time in the Church, and I loved the fight scene between Spike and Vicious, I have to agree with ShyGuy that it was "one of the greatest anime battles of all time". Another of my favourites is "Speak Like A Child", because before that episode I always wondered who Ed's parents were, I enjoyed the scene where she was walking into the sunset. L.A. Rod.
Sorry about this, Hybrid, but I believe the episode in which Ed walks into the sunset is "Hard Luck Woman". Don't worry about it though. Even though I know which episode is which, I sometimes mix up the titles of these two sessions.

Otherwise, I really see no point to this "Anime Rocks" statement that you added there at the end. If I didn't know better, I'd say that you posted merely to exceed one more post on your post count. It might as well have said "Post count +1" and if I see any more of these kind of posts, I will delete them, no questions asked.
Change
People who say that Ballad of Fallen Angels is the best episode are really missing the importent exestential themes in latter episodes. The episode is to put it politly "filler." There is nothing significant to it, it is a groundwork episode where a little bit of Spike's past is reveled to set up the framework for later episodes. Yeah, it has some cool action sequences, but they hardly compare to The Real Folk Blues II, which is a much better episode. Don't get me wong, the episode is great, im just not sure if it is worth being called the greatest episode.

There is absolutely no way that this is a filler episode; you even contradicted yourself in saying that it has background information of Spike's past. A filler episode is more an episode where it has nothing to do with the overall plot, and is just there to provide a 20 minute seperate story for entertainment. Rather, Ballad of Fallen Angels is vidal to the series and plot. It provides background information, you see Vicious for the first time, Spike encounters Vicious for the first time since he left and they engage in one of only two battles in the entire series. And other than Ed, the episode had every character and focused on each of them. This episode is a fantastic example of classic Bebop, and show such genres as fighting, romance, mysterious, and comedic. The action is great, and it continues leaving you on the edge of your seat. L.A. Rod.
I would say that the best filler episodes of the series are "Cowboy Funk", because anybody who tries to put more significance into it is simply trying to play out the whole "read between the lines theme", and Pierrot Le Fu. The worst one's would be ofcourse Toys in the Attic and Wild Horses. To say that Balled of Fallen Angels is nothing more than a filler session is too hard to understand, and I have to restate comments I already did in a previous post in this thread. As I said before, the flashbacks of the first session give questions that are touched upon in session five; but these questions still remain unanswered which help to intrigue the viewer. The action is simply a backdrop to the central idea. The Jupitor Jazz sessions seem more like filler episodes than the balled is, but this is still hard for me to say as they do touch on the woman named Julia and the antitrust between Vicious and the elders.
YES! You read my mind perfectly. :) Cowboy Funk is a funny filler episode, but Pierrot Le Fu is the best (that episode is so awsome, I'm going to go watch it). I really hated Toys in the Attic A LOT, and I though Wild Horses was pretty stupid too. Ballad of Fallen Angels answers and creates many questions that have to do with the over-all plot. You find out who the bad guy and the romantic figure are, and how Spike met them. I didn't really like Jupiter Jazz too much, mostly because of the lighting and the slow story-line. It seems filler to me too in the sense that you meet a main character during the two episodes, and
he is killed at the end
. They go to that planet, and leave in the end. Essentially, it does not have much to do with the story-line other than the clues with Vicious, Julia, and the elders.
Change
Cowboy Funk was no filler. It was symbolic for Spike facing himself.
Shy
I don't know how anyone could consider BoFA to be a "filler" episode. It introduces the character of Vicious, who is the main protagonist in the series. For that reason alone it qualifies as a very important session, would you call Jammin' With Edward or Asteroid Blues "filler"? Of course not. With a few simple words it sets up the Spike/Vicious conflict, it does such a great job at this that dialogue probably wasn't even needed. There is also a lot of foreshadowing for The Real Folk Blues. You see that Faye and Jett are left out of the fight, that's because Spike wanted them left out of it. Also, if Spike was found and saved by Faye.
There is a good chance that something similar would have happened after the Real Folk Blues (I have an excellent idea for a fanfic about Faye, heh.)
-Shy

Eh, I'd have to disagree with you there too. While it is cool to have Spike fight someone so similar, it really has no affect on the plot as a whole, and there is nothing else in the series that brings up the topic of Spike fighting with himself. Fighting Vicious didn't have anything to do with fighting himself, since Spike fights so many people in the entire series, and Andy is the only person that you can see Spike's reflection in. That topic was the outlining theme in this episode, making it a filler that doesn't affect the plot.

The ideas brought up here reminded me of one of my favorite episodes in the series for an odd reason. Hard luck Woman What reminded me was the idea of spike fighting and the way spike meets a true master of his own fighting style. Ed's father. Ed's pop is the best fighter in the series. Just look at his ability to not move at all while spike is flying wildly in every direction. Now think about what spike tried to teach the kid in that "waltz for venus" episode. (I do believe that was the ep about the plant to cure a girls blindness and her brother.) That should be enough support for my basic comments about ed's father and spike's fight. sorry to jump topic. Change
you know syk there is more to art than plot the symbolism of spike fighting himself and conquering himself just before his death is interesting he reaches the pinical of his growth as a a character with that fight he had to look himself in the face and overcome him flaws the entire series it truely about the growth of each of the characters bofa is not a bad episode but all ti has going for it is plot no greater meening too it
