Not for those with extremely weak stomachs
I was gone for a good portion of the day getting surgery done on my toenail, which was hurting by just touching it.

Anyway, they made it numb and doug it out, and I felt nothing but the feeling of when your foot falls asleep, but softer. Blood was gushing everywhere and I had a new respect for doctor's tolerance to blood. Anyway, I now have 3/4 of a nail and am wondering if anyone else here has had surgery before.

It was an ingrown toenail, so that means it grows deep down into your toe and presses against your skin. It hurts so much because it was about to break the skin and whenever you touch it, it hurt very badly. It's also because I didn't tell anyone for months on end and so it grew worse.

Well, I've had surgery before, it wasn't pretty but now I'm awfully healthy because of it.

Back when I was just a li'l general in Corporal Mommy's tummy, I had to be taken out prematurely due to.. complications. A few years later, I went to the doctor and they said that I had a vein in my chest that was ready to burst because it was clogged due to the fact that I was taken out early. So I underwent an operation that took a chunk of my vein out, and pretty much threw it away, then they connected the broken vein again (probably with masking tape.. stupid cheap doctors) and now I'm healthy. Unfortunately, however, I have a small scar on my chest now.

Ah I've heard of that ingrown toe surgery they can be a pain. My cousin has to undergo two of those for both his toes. I don't want to sound like a nanny or old maid. But this is what happens when you ingnore something for too long and don't tell anyone about it, its important to listen to your body when it shows signs of pains.

Ack thats enough of Kevin's Public Service Announcments. End Transmission *Fades out*

I also have another one on my right toe, but the nail hasn't grown in very far yet and I can pry it out with a small screwdriver or other . . . erm, unusual intruments that I will dispose of when I am done, and I have already pried it out, so I know I can do it, I just need some nail clippers (since I have lost mine and my mom won't let me use scissors, but I'm about to go do it anyway. Wish me luck :p)

Ah... I feel you pain Kinetic. I had an ingrown toenail twice back then on the same foot. Take the advice from everyone who had it people... it hurts... like hell.

Now as for the main topic... aside from the foot surgery I've had 3 operations done on my eyes. First when I was born, I was born blind and they did something that saved it but ended up cross-eyed. Second when I was about 3 or 4 I had them corrected. Last was about 3 years ago to get them corrected again since over time the effects of the second wore off. Today, my eyes remain stright but due to living life using one eye at a time for so long... (I can alternate between both) it left me with double vision. It sucked at first but I've gotten used to it and due to the wonders of adaptability I have better vision than the average person ;) (I can see farther, clearer, faster and seeing in the dark).

Last surgery I had was closing up a gash on my head after a rather stupid accident... >.>;; I ran into a bullentin board that held the subway maps in the train station. Yeah yeah... laugh all you want but you can blame me since I was running too fast, this was new there, it was very flat, had a sharp edge, my eyes weren't corrected yet so they threw my vision off a bit, it was silver and it had a white wall that made it almost invisible. Anyway, after I smashed into it, (warning following may not be suitable for everyone....)it left a hole on my head that was deep enough to see my skull. Amazingly I was still conscience so I went back to the entrance of the station where a friend helped me get back to school and get help. I forgot how many stiches I got but after seeing the hole... I know it was alot.

I myself have never had an ingrown toenail, nor any serious surgery, but I have had some minor thing before.

A few years back I thought I had a blood blister on my head. Eventually it popped, and a lot of blood came out, but I thought that was the end of it. Soon after, it grew back. It turned out to be a tuma (a harmless one though), so I had to get it removed. It was done right above my left eye, so I could see a bit of a mess on the bandage/patch when I looked through. But because there was anasetic in it, I couldn't raise my left eyebrow, so my right one was slightly higher than my left one. Then.....we went to a restaurant for dinner,(someones birthday I think it was) and I STILL had the gigantic patch that covered about a 1/4 of my face. Needless to say, I looked like an idiot(as apposed to now?).

So, I have somewhat of an understanding of what you have. Plus I have an inverted aorta, and a blood disease called Thalosemia minor, or something like that. Both are harmless(I hope).

I have a friend who has constant ingrown toenails and they gave her the same treatment a while back. They poured acid over her toe to get the nail to actually stop growing since it was that bad. I've remembered her having ingrown toenails even back when we were in 7th grade.

Myself, I've had ingrown toenails before and they really hurt. I can't even run when I've got them. T_T I hope you get well soon.

While I have never had a surgery on my toe, I have had many surgeries in the past. You see, I was born with a cleft lip! Many of my surgeries were trying to fix that. Another one was because I had a hamangeoma (spelling?) in my knee and they had to cut it out. Heh, it's all good though. They wheel in a big T.V. and an N64 when my sureery is over. ^-^

The only surgery I had done on me was oral surgery. Wisdom teeth taken out and I didn't like the effects of general anesthesia and the pain from the incisions.

Ingrown toenails are tough...I had them before when I hiked trails a lot, but I got them out with a handy clipper and a piece of cotton so it would grow right again.

Ive had a good bit of surgery.

Besides some of the worst dental surgery stories possible, I had a sist in my stomach that had to be removed.

All of my surgeries were nasty and painful, actually, the stomach one was really bad.

Infact, they had to leave the wound open because if they sewed it shut it would have been a big open wound on the inside of my stomach.

I had to clean it every day, and it was horrid.

although one positive thing came from all of this besides me keeping my life...

I got to legally see why people do drugs like morphine.

About 10 to 15 minutes before my stomach surgery they gave me one needle of morphine and then about 2 minutes later another. (it was a mistake to give the second, they asked if I still felt pain and I touched my stomach, I did, so I said yea, when they came back to give a third they mentioned that direct contact with the stomach would always hurt, but my body shouldnt be in any pain. Well the first shot accomplished that all by itself. So the second was unnessacary.)

Any way, I lived, sorry about your toe.

And sorry to anyone who has to or has had surgery in the past.

Well, lets just say that I've had far worse experience. For one, I've split my head open twice. The first time was when I jumped off my roof, and tried to land into my pool, missed and I landed head first, thank GOD that I didn't die. The second time I was in the shower and my shower has a window next to it, and I dropped something and my head hit the corner of the window sill. I'm not one to scream when blood comes out of my head, I actually started to laugh....o_O; This all happened 2 years ago. The second time happened shortly after my first head injury.

I've also split my chin open twice. First time I was young, I think about 6-7 years old. Well I was rocking on a chair and it tipped over and I hit chin first. The second time was when it was still healing and by accident I hit my chin too hard on the table that I was sitting at and it split.

I have split my right foot open once. I was at a party and I was running around the house without any shoes, and there was a GIANT nail sticking out from the ground[GOD knows how it got there...] I didn't see it and I hit it, then my friend noticed that my foot was all bloody and I had to leave early and go to the hospital. No major injury.

I've also split my knee open about 5 times. I don't remember how I did it the first time but all the others were just because I fell doing something and I hit the ground really hard.

*Breathes* I had a lot to say... Those are my injuries... But the strange thing is, I've never broken/dislocated a bone EVER!

I've had a lot of injuries too, but I've only had to go to the hospital once. It is sort of a mix of your first incidents. I split my head open on the window sill because I was sitting on the top of a chair waving goodbye as my mom saw a friend off. I was very young, so I don't remember it, but I remember it hurt very badly.

I also might have fractured my arm slightly, but it's not bad. Other than that, I've led a very uninjured life.

I had a cyst on my left wrist... I noticed it at school, where I had to carry like 5 books between classes (I'm not sure if that's what caused it). I went to the hospital and they did a Beir Block (I think that's the spelling), which basically numbed my entire arm to the point that I couldn't even lift it.

Surgery went by pretty fast, and I was out of their a while later after the medicine wore off. I had to wear a brace and stiches for a couple weeks.

Now I have this scar over my wrist... It looks like I tried to kill myself lol.

That is the only surgery I've had as well. I remember waking up after the surgery, but due to the anesthetic I don't remember walking out to the car or even the trip home. Trying to remember it was like piecing together a night that you were too drunk to remember :drunk:

I had my appendix(sp?) removed when I was in the sixth grade, and I had to spend three or four days in the hospital because of it. I really do not like being in hospitals, they seem really dirty to me for some reason.

The hospital that my mom works for has a Subway resteraunt inside of it, and that just seems disgusting to me. Who would want to have a sandwich made in a hospital? Ergh...

I've always loved going to hospitals for some reason. Maybe it's because of the silence, maybe it's because of the endless vending machines (yes, it's probably the vending machines), but I've always just enjoyed being there.

Oh god, I hate that. My toe will hurt like hell if someone touches it (imagine if they step on it) and I've ruined countless socks that are now partly bloody. I'm probably going to be going through the same surgery that you did, so can you tell me what's going to happen? Tips maybe or whatever?

I've never broken or dislocated a bone ever either. Or had any form of surgery.

Although when I was 2, I cut off half my tongue with a set of jump-leads. I swear I can still remember that day in great detail even though I was only 2. And only God knows how my tongue grew back.

And no, I didn't cry straight away. I used to be scared of blood, and not pain, lol
