Piece of advice, please!

I humbly approach you with this humble thread...

Okay, seriously, I NEED your advice on something:

Should I buy Final Fantasy VI (6)?

I've been surfing sites, but I haven't really found decend reviews on it. And I would like to hear your opinion to it.

The deal is that I don't own PS2, so Final Fantasy X is out of question. So, because my FF-addiction has shown some renewing symptoms, I was concidering to buy FF VI to PSone. It has just been released here in Finland, yet it's very cheap.

The problem is that I don't want to be disappointed, because I've played the games from VII-IX. I KNOW it will not have as good graphics or effects, but what about the plot? Playability? Longevity? Complexity?

Please give me answers, because I know you have them!:bawl:

Well, to my understanding, FF 6 comes with FF 5 and a average music CD featuring selected songs from the two games (FF Antholigies). They nearly identical to their SNES counterparts except for the fact that there's FMV at the beginning and the end, the load times of a CD (not too bad), and a few extras you can unlock.

Storywise, they're both very strong. If you can get really into FF 6, it's somewhat of a tear-jerker at times. It'll last you around 17 hours, maybe more. The battle system of FF 5 is a bit more complex than FF 6's, but FF 6 has more playable characters and you can completely customize your party, even the main character (whoever that might be).

I'm pretty sure that FFVI is seperate over there, and that they released FFIV and FFV together... But whatever...

17 hours? Lol...I'm playing through it again on the SNES (as FFIII), and I've been playing for almost 30 hours and there's still lots left for me to do. I'm expecting it to last me at least 40 hours, probably more like 45-50 if I really want to do everything.

In terms of storyline, it has one of my favorite stories of the FF games, with FFVII's story coming in about even with it. As for complexity, you can really have it as complex as you want. You end up getting tons of different characters, and you can customize them pretty much however you want, since (almost) everyone can learn magic. There's even one character that you don't actually get to control in battle, though he's really strong.

Pretty much, if you liked FFVII and you don't need flashy 3D graphics to enjoy a game (though you'll still get some in the cut scenes they added for the PSX remake), you'll probably like FFVI. It's my favorite FF game of them all, out of the ones I've played anyway, and any fan of the FF series should definitely check this one out.

FFVI is excellent, even though I haven't finished it. It has plenty espers (Summons) and the things the characters do can really make you laugh at times (especially Locke).

FFV is brilliant too. I only played it for a while, but it's Job System is super-elite. Like mix-and-matching your characters ^_^

I need to get FFVII and FFV back off my friends...

As soon as i saw it's about FFVI i knew Des would beat me to it. He's pretty much summed it up, although there are a few other points. Each character has a "history" that comes with them, and you get to learn everyting about them. It's the MAIM reason why people really enjoyed the game, you could get so into it's just because you KNEW everything you could, as if you almost were the character. You begin to know them so well, most people could prolly act a certain character out. that may sound a bit... wierd but it's quite true, If the characters were like those of BOF IVs than no one would even remember it, let alone call it a Final Fantasy. *grins* Well, I had to leave something for other people to say, didn't I? Lol...I know what you mean, though, about being able to act out characters' actions. I'd be perfect for Locke, heh.

But yes, FFVI has the best character development of any FF game I've played. For me, it really is the main reason I like it so much, and the reason I like it more than FFVII. And believe me, I like FFVII a lot, so that's really saying something.

I believe you, guys!

This is the kind of info I REALLY needed, because it's very hard to find these kind of comments anywhere on the net - all the fansites are all about character statistics, attacks, hints blah blah blah, but it hardly serves a person who doesn't OWN the game yet.

So many thanks!:D Maybe I'll come back to this section after I played the game and share my opinions...

FF6 is impossible to beat your first time through in 17 hours without cheating (and that includes using save states on emulators, although even then I'd find that hard to believe). I have beaten the game in 25, and that was my 3rd time playing through it.

I did not like the PSX rereleases of these games... The loading times are unbearable for me. You hit a monster in FF6 and you seriously have to wait a second for the little hit animation to load. There is loading between menus... After playing my cart versions, it just drove me insane.

In terms of gameplay though, it's an excellent game and I can't recommend it enough.
