I like FFVI, mainly because of the diversity of characters, and because each of the many characters actually has a pretty good story behind them, for the most part. The story is excellent, as good as FFVII's, in my opinion, and it has some of the best attacks and whatnot. I still can't get over being able to do eight attacks with one character using a Genji Glove and Offering. My only real complaint about the game is that almost every character can learn magic. I think that makes it just a little too easy.

Final Fantasy 4.

I used to have a big interest in FF6, and I still do... It's generally the one I talk to about people when I say I prefer pre-FF7 games in the series as everyone knows of 6.

However, I prefer 4 for many reasons... The main one being that 4 (well 5 too, but I'm not a big fan) managed to make up for a rather cliche story by its characters and their interactions without becoming a huge melodrama fest like FF7 and on did. It also totally avoided the very mechanical character development that started in FF6 (althought VERY slightly at that point) and just got worse and worse as the series went on.

Really short game compared to other FFs, but still damn fun. The dungeon layouts were pretty damn good as well, something FF has basically given up on since FF6.

Anyway, despite that rather lame complaint, FF6 is my second favorite as the characters were developed so well and the core gameplay was so polished. Every last character was likable and had a good history. Even Mog, who they could have just given up on really (this doesn't count the two hidden characters). The dungeons were good, there were some nice additions to the fighting system and the whole Esper idea (later mimicked in FF7 and 9 in differet ways) was pretty damn cool.

Kefka will forever be my favorite bad guy in a FF game.

I am not as into the FF games on PSX, although I did enjoy 7 somewhat... as well as X. The other two were hit and missl -- mostly miss for me lol.

Although I am a big fan for ten, I also like VIII. The main reason I love these games, is because they are the only ones I have been able to play. I am about to borrow the seventh one from a friend, and then maybe nine. But I also love these two, because of their graphics. I am hesitant to play games before FFVII, because I think their graphics are to primitive.

Ah, that's just being shallow. Graphics aren't everything.

My favourites? Well quite frankly, FFI and FFV are right up there on par with FFVII, and their graphics are 'primitive'. Not everyone thinks the graphics are 'primitive', you know.

Everyone says they wanna see an FFVII remake with PS2 graphics and all that? Well I secretly wanna see FFVII and FFVIII remade for the SNES with FFV/FFVI sprites! My secret revealed!

FFX was really good. Although for some reason I am still partial to FF8.

FFX for me just seems to flow and the story works very well.

And I like FF8 alot because it was so long! There were just so many different things to do in FF8. I was entertained for many many hours.

Yeah. If graphics made the game, there wouldn't be a Final Fantasy series, let alone a SquareSoft. Ever wondered why they're called Final Fantasy? It's because SquareSoft was losing money, and only had enough for one more game. That one game would either make or break the company. So, they named it Final Fantasy because it could have been their final game. And if an RPG needs flashy 3D graphics to be good, the original Final Fantasy wouldn't have saved SquareSoft.

I guess my "secret" would be that I think they should all be in 2D, with sprites instead of polygons, and just have 3D cutscenes every now and then. Pretty much like FFVI in Final Fantasy Anthology. It would sure save a lot of space on the disc, heh. :p

Flashy 3D graphics didn't even exist back then. Those graphics were quite good for it's time, especially when the only comparison was Dragon Quest II which was released rather close to FF. Anyone can tell you that DQII probably looks worse than the first one :D lol.

If they wanted to do a FF in highquality 2D, it wouldn't exactly be small in file size... Considering they'd hopefully do a lot of it with high resolution sprites. Square's next game in the SaGa series for PS2 looks like that, and it worked out damn good. I can't see FF ever being anything less but on the cutting edge of what graphics are right now, so going back to 2D would make zero sense for the series... it is afterall, Square's flagship series.

You'd have to rely on other lesser know RPGs (some from Square itself) if you wanted something like that I'd say lol.

 Uh, well, I have to say that the graphics were ONE of the main reasons I got into the series in the first place - I'm a sucker for japanese style!

My fave game of the lot is FF9, because of it's "fairy-tale"-look, it's longevity, the humor, the playability, and of course the characters and the eidolons (I really ADORE all the summoning monsters in the series). And it wasn't too hard either (I suffer from serious traumas from trying to beat Safer Sephirot for hours :( ).

I'm also interested in FFX because of it's "carribean"-scenery, but since I can't afford to have it, I can't really say...

If we turn the question around, I'd have to say that my LEAST favorite game of the three I've played (7-9) is the eight part. I LOVED the characters in it, and the gardens were cool too, but that was about it. It was WAY too hard, it's weapon-upgrading system sucked, and the junction-system was too complex for my taste. And the amount of secrets I HADN'T found before I gave up playing it...

Well, somebody have different opinions, but this is mine. :D

Final Fantasy IX was a fun game to a point, and as you said, not that easy to get into... but my favorite game was Mistyc Quest. Though many people say it sucked and it was boring, and had no story, I liked it. It had a good story, the enemies were fun, the gameplay and spells were much better than some they have now. Overall, I'd say Final Fantasy Mistyc Quest was the best Final Fantasy game ever created. But that's just me...

Hmm...I think FF6 is the best one, with everyone having individual skills, and having the largest variety of equipment. FF7 is my favorite however, since I had the most fun playing it and er...well it's just my favorite lol. FF5 was fun as well, but after FF tactics the job system in 5 tended to get on my nerves, like how it re-equipped u every time u switched jobs or abilities ><. Speaking of which where's FF Tactics on your poll?! I've spent more hours playing FFt than 7-X combined....well maybe almost as much.

Before i even read your post I added it ;)

Tactics is definately the best. It was a unique break from the mainstream type of RPG's, and brought about a whole new style. I'm confused as to why Squaresoft never made a second one....

Ditto.
But only one typo: EVERY one can learn magic by giving an esper to someone......
But still FFVI is the best. I liked Shadow over all the chars.

FFX! Why you may ask? Here's your answers:

1) The strory line flowed very nicely, and gave many unexpected twists and turns.

2) The concept of the sphere grid was awesome!

3)The visuas were amazing.

4) There were actually voices with this game.

5) The characters were well defined.

6) Evryone can learn any ability or type of magic, whether it be steal oo lancet, to holy and ultima.

7) Tidus. I think I'm in love with him. ^^

No, actually, not every character can learn magic. You can't equip Espers on Umaro or Gogo, so they can't learn magic. If you put the "magic" command on Gogo, he can use magic, but only spells that the other party members know. He still can't actually learn magic himself, though.

I liked FFVII the best. It had a great story line, one of the best bosses in the Final Fantasy series, awesome characters and everyone could use magic and summons. I pretty much like all the ones I played except for IX. I hated IX so much, sure it had good graphics but I did not like the story line and the little action thing that popped in out of nowhere. But back to VII, yeah, it was a great game.
