Kent
Alright, Im trying to get my hands on a good 2d fighting game or two and I want to know about the snk .vs. capcom stuff. If you guys know any good 2d fighting games, post your reviews of them here. I also want to know all I can about the most recent snk vs capcom game for the ps2. Specifically, I want to know everything and anything you guys can tell me. Are there any players they left out of the game? are there any major lapses in the playing? and are there things I should know before I run out and get one of the games from this series? Thanks for the help and just to restate, I want to know about the snk vs capcom stuff, as well as any other good 2d fighters for the ps2. Thanks. Semjaza
Without going into detail, the game is basically the same as its Japanese only DC counterpart. I believe the only thing the GC version has over the PS2 version is the GC-ism controls, as well as supposedly the best visuals of the three versions. The PS2 version also has the roll cancel glitch of past versions, while the GC one does not. That might affect some people's playing style, but not most. The only other 2D fighter I can think of on PS2 is Guilty Gear X. I've not played the PS2 version, but I have the DC import. I personally love the game, as it brought a lot of cool ideas to the table... Although it really doesn't have as much substance or skill to it like CvS2 does. Still, it's gorgeous (640x480 res sprites, instead of Capcoms old low res ones they reuse over and over) and a hell of a lot of fun. I've seen it on clearance a few times, so you might want to check that out.
spike speigel
In my opinion, capcom vs. snk is the best fightin game. ever. I absolutly love the game. The gameplay is great snd it's just overall an excellent game. I can't exactly explain why it's so awesome, it just is.
SephirothNIN
Snk vs. Capcom 2 is really cool, but there are a few characters from snk vs. capcom1 that didn't make it, like Ibuki...don't really remember others actually. It has 48 characters, and 6 different -isms that completely change how each character controls. P-ism characters control like Street Fighter 3, they can parry and have 1 large super meter. S-ism characters control like old SNK style games, and u charge your super meter by holding down 2 buttons. A-ism is like Street Fighter alpha, and has custom combos and super moves. There are a bajillion different combinations and is one of the best 2d fighters on PS2. BUT, Marvel vs. capcom 2 is coming to the PS2 within the next month or so, and that's extremely fun too. It all depends on whether you prefer traditional street fighters tyle, or the high-flying triple-teaming screen-filling super meter style.
Kent
Now that is the kind of discussion I was hoping for. Thanks seph nin. I was hoping to learn about its overall quality and what not. It seems to me this thread is gettin it done. It did take some time for people to come and get involved but I would say its picking up a bit. I am wondering though, is this game worth getting in comparison to all of the new age 3d fighters. Also, is it as "action packed" as the marvel v capcom stuff. See, I really like the snk charactors, I think they make the perfect complement to the capcom line up.
Charles
Well, I consider 2-D fighters and 3-D fighters completely different genres. It's hard to say whether or not it directly stacks up against them, simply because it plays on entirely different plane. It certainly has more characters than 3-D fighters, but the move list pales in comparison to something like Virtua Fighter 4. However, it's faster and easier to pick up and play. As SephirothNIN said, the game isn't in the same vein as Marvel vs. Capcom 2. Capcom versus SNK has a more methodical pacing to it, and features more strategic elements. You can't just mash buttons and pull off a 76 hit combo. I feel that Marvel vs. Capcom 2 is the superior game though. The character selection is more diverse and relaxed. Plus, there is a wealth of secrets to unlock. The major disappointment though, is that the low resolution sprites look pixelated against the 3-D backgrounds. Well, and the backgrounds are fairly boring as well.
Zidargh
Hmm, I plan to buy Guilty Gear X tomorrow, so I'm quite looking forward to it. I've never really been a big fan of fighting games but I suppose I'm getting completely bored with PS2 RPGs. I mean, Suikoden III hasnt even been released out here and I'm starting to detest Kingdom Hearts, I waited 2 years and am completely dissapointed with it. But hmm, could I ask, what do you all love about fighting games. Basically what makes you adore them?

Who doesn't find beating the crap out of people. :p As for the whole 2d fighting games thing. Marvel VS. Capcom 2 is better than Capcom VS. SNK anyday. Guilty Gear X, while fun can get pretty annoying. I hate the idea of being able to kill someone with one move! But the graphic are pretty nice. But when it comes to 2d fighting games Marvel VS. Capcom 2 is the cream of the crop.
Juu
I personally like the SNK vs. Capcom much better on GameCube. The graphics weren't exactly great on PS2, and alot of the attacks that are used on the arcade;pc version of it weren't in the game... It was still pretty kewl. Not great, but.. good. :whoops:
