Shy
There have been a huge number of topics about deck building lately, so this topic was made to organize this forum a little more. All future topics about deck rating should go here, but you can continue posting in pre-existing threads. Digital Monster
Das ist cool, HyperShadow, but as I don't that much about the English game, let alone the Japanese one, I can't rate it. I did manage to get some cards recently, namely a Yugi starter deck, 1 Magic Ruler booster, and a few cast-offs from someone else. I've composed a Deck that I think is Dark/Earth based, but there's also a big element of magic in the monsters, so there's a few Light-types in there as well. Alexander
Dang...I'd love to have a deck like that! I've got a few of those cards, far more than any one else in my area, but DANG I'm nowhere near that! TWO Black Paladins?! THREE Skilled Black Magicians?! Aren't they the BEST 4-STAR IN THE GAME!?! *faints* (How rare are Supers and Ultra Rares in Japanese Packs? I heard that Ultra Rares were like 1 in every box or so...so I haven't bothered buying any.) The only thing I find rather bland is the Trap Assortment. I see those same cards everywhere... Here's my current Local Tournament Deck. Monsters (5 Tribute, 17 Non-Tribute): x1 Barrel Dragon x3 Summoned Skull x1 Relinquished --- x3 La Jinn x3 Whiptail Crow x2 Ryu-Kishin x3 Man-Eater Bug x1 Trap Master x1 Witch of the Black Forest x2 Magician of Faith x1 Mask of Darkness x1 Cyber Jar Magics (16): x1 Pot of Greed x1 Dark Hole x1 Raigeki x1 Monster Reborn x1 Change of Heart x1 Heavy Storm x1 Tribute to The Doomed x1 Soul Exchange x1 Black Illusion Ritual x2 Swords of Revealing Light x2 Mystic Plasma Zone x3 Mystical Space Typhoon Traps (7): x1 Backup Soldier x1 Graverobber (Signature Card) x1 Horn of Heaven x1 Magic Jammer x1 Mirror Force x2 Trap Hole

Hyper
Take out cards: Four-star monsters with less than 1800 attack or defense (Put in cards like La Jinn, Seven-colored Fish, Mechanicalchaser etc.) 1 Tribute Monsters with attack less 2100 in attack or defense. (Take out Faceless Mage) and put in cards like Summoned Skull, and the new, Beast of Talwar. And maybe Judgeman if you like. 2 Tribute monsters with attack less than 2500. Try cards like Barrel Dragon (great effect), Dark Magician is okay if you want to use it. Thats should help you with your monsters. Try applying that to your Magic and Traps, and see if that works. John2
I have a deck plan for a Dark/Warrior Deck, it will take me so long to build this... 50 card deck 28 monsters 12 Magic 10 Trap Monsters Masked Hellraiser(Rit. 8* 3200/1800) x2 -The Fiend Megacyber(Efct. 6* 2200/1200) x3 -Zombie the Dark Hero(Efct. 4* 2100/500) x2 Hungry Burger x2 Sword Stalker x2 -Don Zaruug(Efct. 4* 1400/1500) x3 -Grave Robbers of the Black Scorpion(Efct. 4* 1000/1000) x3 -Doppleganger(Efct. 3* 650/900) x3 Man-Eater Bug x2 Hane-Hane x2 Magician of Faith x2 Mask of Darkness x2 Magic Ritual of the Hellraiser x2 Hamburger Recipe x2 Mystic Plasma Zone x2 Axe of Dispair x2 Rageki x1 Dark Hole x1 Monster Reborn x1 Change of Heart x1 Soul Exchange x1 Trap Trap Hole x2 Waboku x2 Fairy's Hand Mirror x2 Ultamate Offering x2 7 Tools of the Bandit x1 Mirror Force x1 The Fiend Megacyber- If your opponent has 2 or more monsters than you have on the field, you can summon this card without offering any Tributes. Don Zaruug- If this monster damages your opponent, choose and activate one of these effects: your opponent randomly discards a card from their hand OR your opponent discards the top two cards of their deeck. Grave Robbers of the Black Scorpion- If this monster does Combat Damage to your opponent, they search their deck for a magic card and discard it, shuffling their deck afterward. Doppleganger- FLIP: Destroy two face-down magic and/or trap cards on the field. Zombie the Dark Hero- This monster cannot attack a player directly. This monster loses 200 Attack for each monster it destroys during Combat.

Hyper
Your deck is really Dragon-focused. Try adding another Lord of D and flute, more Witches, Sangans, and/or maybe Mystic Tomato. Most of your high-level monsters should be powerful dragons, like Tri-Horned Dragons. Red Eyes are two weak, but tis good that you have 3 BEWD. Just try to focus it more on dragons. Domon
What Booster is Mystic Tomato in? I have one Sangan and i think i have 2 witches of the black forest, don't know. I could get Red-Eyes boosted up but usually i just wait untill i get polymerization and Summoned skull and some tributes than WHAM! Instant chain baby, then its Black Skull Dragon! MUWHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!....Ahem. anyways
Hyper
Mystic Tomato is in MRL. It actually puts it on the field instead of your hand, as a Special Summon. And since I reccomend not using Red-Eyes, try using a fusion-sub if you have one in its place. (The best of the subs is Godess with third Eye)
John2
Yah, those are good, I just cant wait till Fusion Gate comes out in English. Godess With Third Eye and Fusion Gate are a leathal combonation. Is there any card that brings cards out of the game back in?
Hyper
Fusion Gate is a good card. I've seen it be used in various Fusion Decks (The deck theme, not actual Fusion deck) and it pulls of deadly fusions. No card does that Uriel, unfortuantly. Once its out, its out. For good. Kinetic
I'm interested in seeing how HyperShadow would classify my deck as it is right now :) Tribute monsters: Dark Magician Summoned Skull Curse of Dragon (looking for good replacement, can't find many Summoned Skulls) Labyrinth Wall Low Level Monsters: La Jinn x3 Wall of Illusion Neo the Magic Swordsman Castle of Dark Illusions Witch's Apprentice (+500 dark atk/-500 light atk) Spear Cretin (Monster Reborn effect) Mystical Elf Traps: Waboku Reverse Trap x2 Reinforcements x2 Castle Walls x3 Trap Hole x3 Magic: Fissure x2 Sword of Dark Destruction x3 Tribute to The Doomed De-Spell Share the Pain Gravekeeper's Servant (love this) Change of Heart Mystic Plasma Zone Monster Reborn Dian Keto the Cure Master Ookazi Sword of Deep-Seated Soul Exchange Dark Hole Monsters: 4 Low Monsters: 9 Traps: 11 Magics: 16 Total: 40 Side Deck (just extras that I took out this morning, really): Griggle (3000 life points when it is face up and switches to their turn) Reinforcements Just Desserts Whiptail Crow Ryu-Kishin Powered x3 Koumori Dragon Paralyzing Potion Reverse Trap Remove Trap De-Spell Wall Shadow Blue-Winged Crown BEWD Magical Labyrinth ---------------------------------- ---------------------------------- Any comments? Hyper
I'd classify it as a F/S Beatdown. You have most of the right monster cards. I'd dump the Witch's Apprentice. They won't last very long. Just add another Mystic Plasma Sone if you want. Replace Castle of Dark Illusions for Wall of Illusion or Mystical Elf. Those should be your main defense, but becareful with Mystic Plasma Zone on those walls. Get rid of Labyrinth Wall, just Side Deck it Looking for a Summoned Skull Replacement? Try the new Beast of Talwar, its better than red-Eyes in both attack and defense, but for one tribute less. Its a fiend type, so it will fit your theme. Cyber Jar is great for Beatdowns. It can really turn the tables. Add one or two more Neos. For magics try to add a few more power ups. They have the best ones in MRL. Try Malevolent Nuzzler. Its +700 and its a common card. Be sure to replace Sword of DS, it can be a pain being put back to the top of your deck. You might not need Soul exchange. Because then you have to skip your Battle Phase and then you might loose it next turn without ever using it. Take out Ookazi and De-Spell for Swords of Revealing Light and Pot of Greed. Traps, you know what I'm going to say. Try to get those Counter Traps, but I know your probably looking. Great start for a deck.
Domon
I know you think i should dump Red-Eyes but i think i'll keep him but i'll throw in my Sagan. Thanks for the advice though. I know you probably think i'm an idiot for keeping Red Eyes.
Hyper
I don't think your an idiot. Its just Red-Eyes isn't the best dragon and that there are others you could use. But Its your deck,so do what you want.

Hyper
Your welcome, Kinetic.:) See F/S Beatdowns are my fave, so when people ask advice about them, I use peices of my deck to help. And even some people might have seen this before, here is my F/S Beatdown, a rather old English deck, not updated for PSV, but I still do really weel with this deck. Kinetic
That would be a nearly ideal deck in my mind. My friends think that themes are near useless and to focus on few victory strategies is dumb. I'm saying, as in my traps, I have Reinforcements x3 and Castle Walls x3. They thought it was too much but what if the problem comes up where they have BEWD with Sword of Deep-Seated on it and all I have is a Labyrinth Wall. What would I use to defend him? If not Chorus of Sanctuary or something, I would use my Castle Walls. They believe it's all a bunch of crap, but that's why they lose :)
Hyper
Themes are the most important thing in a deck. Without one, you don't have a deck. My friends had to find out the hard way. They've never beaten me. Why? they doesn't have a theme. No matter which deck I use, I still beat them. Themes help. A lot.
John2
Yes, once I started using theme decks I began to win alot more often. My friends had no idea what hit them. My Fire deck(just finished :D), my Dark deck, and my Water deck beat them every time. Any help on latest deck: Monsters: 21 Trap: 10 Magic 14 Monsters: Summoned Skull x3 Giant Soilder of Stone x3 Mystical Elf x3 Unhappy Maiden x2 Wall of Illusion x2 Mask of Darkness x2 Magician of Faith x2 Nimble Momamga x3 Spear Cretin x1 Trap: Mirror Force x1 Mirror Wall x2 Trap Hole x2 Waboku x2 Gift of Mystical Elf x3 Magic: Ring of Magnetism x2 Chorus Sanctuary x2 Axe of Despair x2 Final Flame x3 Tremendous Fire x2 Monster Reborn x1 The Reliable Guardian x2 The idea is to use Ring of Magnetism on my high defence monsters and make them attack then use either Mirror Force to destroy all their monsters, or Mirror Wall to make their monster's attack so low that my high defence monsters leave a nice impact on their life points. Nimble Momamgas and Gift of Mystical Elfs will raise my life points enough so my Mirror Wall can stay on the feild longer. Direct Damage to help finish them off faster. Reliable Guardians, and Chorus Santuarys to raise the defence of my monsters even higher. Axe of Despair will be able to raise my Summoned Skulls attack high enough to tromp my opponets half attack monsters, or raise my high defenders even higher. Thanks HyperShadow, if there's anything else you know how to contact me ;)
Hyper
You shoudl alter the ratio of your cards. You have 30 magic and traps, and only 15 monsters. Thats not the best odds for a deck. Try evening out your deck. Some magics are a little unneccesarry, and you should have more attack monsters to if you plan on attacking directly. And for more life point gainers, try Nimble Momamgas. HeroBear
Ok, here's what I have so far: Tributes: Wingweaver x2 The Legendary Fisherman Sword Hunter Labyrinth Wall/Wall Shadow Non-Tributes: Giant Soldier of Stone Battle Ox The All-Seeing White Tiger La Jin, The Mystical Genie of the Lamp High Tide Gyojin Hiro's Shadow Scout (effect) Sonic Bird (effect)x2 Bite Shoes (effect) Ameba (effect) Hane-Hane Trap: Castle Walls Just Desserts Trap Hole Reinforcements Fairy's Hand Mirror Enchanted Javelin Gravity Bind x2 Magic: Pot of Greed Ookazi Gravekeeper's Servant Megamorph Malevolent Nuzzler x3 Umi x2 Ground Collapse Magical Labyrinth Horn of Light Monster reborn Remove Trap De-Spell Rush Recklessly Ritual: Crab turtle x2 Turtle Oath x2 --------------------------- What I'm pretty much going after is playing 3 star Lvl cards with my Gravity Bind. With luck, I'll power up my 3 star monsters to take out my opponents 4+ monsters and bring him/her down that way. If all else fails I have megamorph for when my opponent destroys gravity bind and my monsters, then bring in the big guns, such as my wingweavers, fisherman, etc. I think I'll need Change of Heart so that I won't have to tribute my monsters to summon Crab turtle. Your thoughts?
