Shaun
How often do you find yourself saying "I'll never do that...." and then a bit later, you're doing exactly that? I have found that, as I have gotten older, the things I said I'd never do are becomming easier to do. I just realized it too. What are your thoughts? KittyLynn
Well, I said that I would never jump my horse that high, but then I did it the day later! It isn't really what you probably meant but :>
Shaun
I mean stuff like "Oh I'd never eat that." or "I'd never date that person." or "I'd never be involved in that stuff." You know:)
Ryan
Well, I said I would never eat an artichoke, but now I crave them every day because they are so good! I still won't eat spinach.

PiroMunkie
I used to do that when I was a little kid. Mostly whenever I would get mad at someone. I would say things like "I am never going to talk to you again!", "I am never going to play tag with you again!", or "I am never going to play Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles with you again!". The next day I would probably be doing just the opposite. I do not really do that all too often these days. I am too damn stubborn to allow myself to lower myself to such hypocritical levels. Although, it is quite a different case from the way it was when I was younger. I mean, as you see above, all those things are not really serious things. You are not really faced with many bad things when you are a child. You are too naive and innocent to notice. So you just live your life day by day being your happy-go-lucky self. When you get older you have to face things like drugs, sex, friends, school, violence, etc. So if someone says, "I am never smoking marijuana again!" they are old enough and experienced enough to care. They can back their statement up with a reason, or reasons. That person can then stick to that reason, or reasons; and use them as a constant reminder as to why they should not do whatever it was they said they would not do. When you are a kid, you do not have reasons. You just said that because something someone did made you angry or sad, but children will get over it and go back to doing what they said they would not do. The only semi-exception to this that I can think of in my own personal experience was when I was around the age of five or seven. I was at a wedding reception and there was a beverage on a counter without anyone by it. It looked like pop, though I also thought that it could also be alcohol. I did not think to smell it first. So I just gave it a sip. Indeed, it was beer. I did not know the real reasons alcohol was bad. I just decided from then on not to drink an alcoholic beverage because it tastes horrible.
Mitch
As we grow older we become more adaptable and easily effected by things. I do not mean that in a fickle manner, but, as we are older, we become much more understanding and perceptive of ourselves, our feelings, everything in general. Change is the key word I would associate with this thread, and change is not always all that easy. The transition from my childhood and to where I stand now, as a teenager, was a long and yet well guided path. Although bumpy at times, mostly it was smooth treading. I do believe that the older we get, the more we can be applied to the behavior of that of our parents, and our peers. You see, we learn what we know not just from school, but from all of our personal experiences amassed into one whole. We then take that, and adapt to a certain situation when it does arise. Yes, I've changed my mind on numerous things as I made my transition from young and ignorant, to, I suppose, semi-experienced, and semi-knowing. I used to never want to eat fish: Now I eat it and love it. But also, other than those changes that we bring about ourselves, there are those which we cannot control and are tempered to suffer through. But, besides that, yes, I do believe everyone has rethoughten or rechosen their stance on numerous matters throughout their long lives. Some smaller, yet some bigger.

Manic Webb
I once promised myself I would never ever color my hair. Why? Because it was too darn trendy. I don't want to get attention from people just because my hair is a different color... Anyway, I colored my hair grey/silver a couple of times. One of those times, I was letting the drama teacher demonstrate how to make you look old with make-up and he colored my hair grey in the process. I wiped off the make-up, but I spent the rest of the day with grey hair. Someone gave me the nickname Sisqo that day. In fact, I was called Sisqo up until the week I graduated... and the hair thing happened my Junior year. When I was 4 years old and my brother got his ear pierced, I told my mom that I never wanted my ear peirced. Ever. A week later, I had a cubic zirconia sticking out of my ear. But believe you me, I haven't gotten anything else pierced since then. I refuse to get my nose or tounge pierced. It's just not gonna happen. I'll be back in a week to tell you if I went through with it or not. :)

Phantom
Lala la... ok tempted us all now you have to tell us all... PLEEEEEEZE!? lol jk Anyway, regarding this whole issue and corresponding it to age....Im not sure, but as you get older, I'd think your brain is a bit more developed and your memory bank is now a bit more filled with common sense knowlege...sure it isn't gona stop you from commiting offenses that human nature only justifies....but, as your older your judgment is a tad less impared by the whole youthfull naive inocenceness... heh now its more impaired by illogical adult stubornness :smirk:
James
As you get older, I think you are a lot less impaired generally. You're able to make better decisions based both on maturity as well as experience. I don't know if there is anything I said I wouldn't do that I have done. If I say I'm not going to do something, I'll rarely go back on that (like smoking or something). For the most part, it's more a case of saying "I can't imagine myself doing that". It's funny how in only a short period of time, your life can be totally different to what you had expected. Or at the very least, you've had experiences that you never even dreamed of before. So, yeah...in my case it's more about doing things that I just never thought I'd do -- either positive or negative, but mostly positive.

Kent
There are also some things that seem nasty when you are young but become much better when you are older. This (in my opinion) goes for, but is not limited to, all vegetables, and beer. When your younger beer is just nasty. When your in highschool, its just what everyone drinks to party. But one day you realize that you dont need to get drunk and there are beers that actually taste good. Do it enough and almost all of them will taste good. You grow to like it. Its almost like that horribly disgusting habbit of smoking. First time and its cough cough cough, eventually your puffin like the best with no trouble. (btw, I really think smoking is un-attractive and just nasty, I dont do it) I would have to say my personal "take backs" would be the vegetables. I never really dis-liked them, but I never loved them. Now I love to eat vegetables.

That's exactly what happened to me with Pokemon, Digimon, Nadesico and Evangelion. I can't help it... The major thing I'm really trying to avoid at the moment is smoking. I never want to start, but the more people around me do, the more I feel I could do it. It frightens me, because I know what it can do to you. That's one thing I'm determined not to go back on my word about. I've never said 'Im not going to be religious', as I was a Methodist for a very brief period when I was very small and incapable of thinking what I was and wasn't never going to do (don't you just love double negatives?). besides, I like having a little faith, even if it's not in anything specific. I always feel like something's watching me. Maybe that's just paranoia...
Guest Hikaru Ichijyo
As for as drugs and beer go, I would never do that and strongly stick by that decision. But with other things, silly stupid things, I said "I would never do that and then did." Holds up his Pokemon Games and Yugioh games for the gba, yes folks I'm very weak minded for stupid crazes and stuff.
Shaun
I hope I never go back on my word about not doing drugs, drinking or smoking. Those are some things that I am detirmined to stick with. I don't like to be called religious. I am a Christian, but "religious" has way too many negative connotations attatched to it. And I totally cannot stand those "so called christians" who talk about every little thing, and look at you like you're trash if you don't do it their way. That's not how true Christians work, my friends.
