vegeta rocker
Heres the deal: Little freshmen at my high school are all getting face piercings and fighting each other saying that the other thought of it first. I really don't see the point since they have to be covered by a band aid every day and since they are doing the band aid thing everyday others like us are going to start getting busted for piercings that they never would have guessed. So here is my question; since they are all fighting over being individual and not followers, aren't they contradicting themselves by going in big groups to get pierced? Sui Generis
Actually thats the funny part. People get so caught up in being "original" they only end up copying people. Yeah and alot of freshman (luckily not me) do that at our school to. Really stupid. Oh well, they'll learn! Although I do wanna get my eye brow pierced
Genkai
hmm.... well, by fighting over it, they're TRYING to be original.. can't they just be themselves?
James
People are stupid, what can I say. I'm not much of a piercing fan myself...my partner has a belly button ring though. That's kinda cool. ;) But yeah...I doubt I'd ever get pierced myself. A small private tattoo might interest me though.

Kent
Interesting for sure. I actually had to write an essay on this topic for my eng 101 class. I basically said the things everyone else has said. How odd. The pursuit of individuality only to end up being part of a group. I say its better to be an individual in the masses than just another in the group. Plus, I think peircings are nasty and a desecration of the temple/body. They are also just ugly when their in odd places. I will never forget this girl named mary that I went on like three dates with and every time we went out I had the perfect moment where we were alone. It was the time to make a move. I knew she wanted it, so it wasnt anything difficult to do. But then, every time I looked over to make the move, I saw that damn eye brow ring. yuck! I never could do it when I saw that thing. It just grossed me out. Well needless to say, we didnt go out any more. Oh well!
Semjaza
There's very little you can do that someone else doesn't do. I don't know a person who went to get something pierced because they thought it would mae them different from everyone else. I guess they do it to express themselves in some odd way (which I guess is trying to be different then lol)... But most (nearly all) of the people I know that do it, do it just because they like that kind of stuff and want to. It's not to make them feel better about their coolness. Like I dye my hair constantly. I'm sure most people think that people do that to be different in some way, or get attention. I just do it because I enjoy it, and because I can't stand my hair. It's nearly impossible for me to style it in any way other than messing it up or spiking it. I dye to make up for it lol. I plan on getting a piercing or two eventually, but only because that sort of stuff interests me. If someone is looking for a reason to feel better about their own uniqueness, I don't think piercing is going to do much... Unkess they hold the record for most piercings or something. Manic Webb
It's times like this I'm glad to be out of high school. Only freshmen would get a piercing and say they did it first... because, you know, there isn't one rock star or celebrity who has a piercing anywhere on their face. All they're doing is being sheep. It's basically pointless to try to be original in high school. Either your originality is copied or mocked. Then you'll either be fighting over your originality or walking around embarrassed by it (unless you're the type of person who could give a care). Mitch
I think my personality and appearance are enough to appeal and make me different than someone else. I don't need to get a form of body art to express myself more. I already do in almost all of my actions and every word and every word which I speak and write. That's enough for me. But, if someone wants to be that stupid to ruin their beautiful body which they have, that's not my problem. But, some people need to realize that they are beautiful, that they do cause effect upon others, and that they are more than a prick in history. Plus, I haven't even mentioned all of the possible disease which are possible due to piercings. Especially ir is bad if you get your tongue pierced, that really ups a chance for an infection.

Mitch
Mmm...well, I was guessing, but yeh. I've never gotten a piercing, so I wouldn't know. But thanks for laying down the facts. 12 months eh, quite longer than I thought that would take...

Anyway wounds in the mouth usually heal much faster than the same would somewhere else.
Corey
The only thing on my body that's pierced are my ears. And one closed up I think. I'm now in the process of streatching out my left lobe. Well that's completely off topic isn't it... Well I think that facial piercings are horrible. I'm not against piercings on eyebrows or tounges or other assorted areas but piering your face is horrible... Unless you meant things like eyebrows and noses and such in which case I retract my former statement.
SaiyanPrincessX
Yeah the majority of Freshmen at my school are into that fad aswell. Gets quite annoying. I only have my ears pierced, one in each ear. I was only one when I got them though, my mom had them done.
RoseofDawn
even for the look that you get with piercings, im much more keen to the alternative of clips on body parts, instead of the real things.

Phantom
Sure the kids contradict themselves... Personally, I'de get a pericing if it really was something nagging at me...sorta like a voice in my head.. "Peirce that nipple baby" ... ide sorta get sick of it lol.. *laughs at my own idiocy* But I am most certainly planning on a tattoo, one for my girl....Eventually I'll get it...prolly on the arm, her name, my name, around a blade of some sort..
You'll get a kick out of this. I'm getting some wicked piercings when I can. I'm piercing my sides. Down below my ribcage on my side above my waist. I'm gonna' get three rings in each side, the horseshoe type with the balls that screw on one side so you can take them off. A curved barbel pretty much. Also I'd like to get threads surgically implanted in my chin so i could get metal spikes and screw them in and have a metal goatee made of 1 1/2 to 2 inch spikes running across my chin. But that'd cost too much.
Ravenstorture
The problem with things that are "original" is that they quickly become unoriginal if say, someone else does it. I like piercings not because they're popular or original or because I want to prove a point or be a rebel, but because I think they have the capacity to look beautiful and they would look good on me. Saliva is a wonderful acidic healer and blood clotter but the mouth is a horribly dirty place to get a piercing, and a tongue piercing really gets in the way after a while. Not eating anything solid for the first week is pretty damn annoying too. Nipple piercings are cool, but interfere with breast feeding if keloids form and if you don't look after it. Navel piercings are very nice, but you can't get it done if you're too skinny. Not that it was ever a problem with mine... The problem with my navel is that it seems to be growing out. Not good. But fun to tap on with your watch in maths exams, speaking of which I have one tomorrow. I am getting my nose done on friday, just a simple ala piercing. Nothing serious. Later on in life, say, when I finish school in two years, I am getting six barbel surface piercings down my spine, a bridge piercing, perhaps my nipple and three shellrims, two tragums and my lobes three each. Piercings are a beautiful way to waste time. Now that I have expended my wealth of knowledge on piercings, I will prove my ignorance and ask: What's a freshman?
Guest cloricus
Freshman - First year, mainly in collage. American tradition. Or at least that?s what I've picked up from TV and my father. Hehe, I had great fun at a school dinner thing yesterday by being different in a different way than normal. Which of course isn't very normal anyway. Piercing nope don't like them, they look like they would hurt allot. Any one doing that to follow a crowd would be stupid. -Lord Epssy

Ravenstorture
Well, it's over. Yesterday I got my nose done, and I can tell you eddie, it didn't hurt nearly as much as I expected. It hurt just about as much as squeezing a blackhead. Which reminds me, I probably won't be doing that for a while... tomorrow I will be going to Harlequin's house with The Unholy Newt and Jesus Chicken. They don't know yet... I'll take a photo and get it up some time.
Guest Morph
Oi! This has happened at my school, but the big thing is ear piercing for boys... Its stupid, I don't want to piece my ear... But when I get older, I want an EYEBROW piercing on my left eyebrow. It's so cool >
