Amphion
First of all, I have been away for a while, so I would like to go ahead and apologize if this topic has already been discussed. I did check around and run several searches and I found nothing. But anyway here it goes. If any of you watch "The Screen Savers" you might have heard Megan mention it yesterday. They were discussing "FLCL" and at the end of the segment Megan mentioned that TechTV would start airing Anime on December 30th. I have not been able to find much information on it yet besides what was said. I have searched the TechTv website but found nothing. I am very interested in finding out what Anime they will be airing. Thats pretty much all I know at the moment but I will try and post any new info I find out. Usually when I think I have heard something first it turns out I am really last so that could be the case here too. Like I said, sorry if this has already been discussed. Just let me know and I will remove it. Later
Semjaza
Seems like a really odd channel to put this one. I don't associate TechTV with Japanese anything (other than maybe some videogames)... Strange. Good news I suppose though.
Shy
I watched TSS yesterday, but I must have missed the part where they discussed anime (I was doing other stuff at the time, yeah). Well, any channel showing more anime is a good thing, it will be interesting to see what they show. I doubt it will be anything amazing, probably some old movies from the 80's or something. -Shy
Syk3
Lol, SA's right, a tech channel showing anime? Hahaha, hard to believe. In any case, I'm glad that anime is showing up on more channels. I'm also glad that I get this channel. Wooh!!!
Amphion
To me, techTV is more of a "geek" network than a "tech" network. They air other shows like "The Thunderbirds" and "Max Headroom" wich were both shows that have a huge fanbase with geeks. True its not really tech, but I think it fits into the whole geek category. I feel that they won't be showing Anime like DBZ or Pokemon. I think it will be anime that is aimed at teenagers and adults since the majority of techtv viewers are in the category. But we wont really know untill they release some more info.
TheDarkOtaku
Well, well. Tech TV gets another plus in my book. It was already the only channel I really paid attention to recently. I can't wait to see what show they broadcast. :)

Heh, knowing TechTV, the only type of anime they'd probably show is anime that has to do with robots such as Gundam, Robotech, maybe even the return of Tranzor Z and Voltron. ^_^. Who knows, hopefully they'll show Neon Genesis on there since that has a good bit to do with "mobile suits" or whatever you wanna call them robots on that show. But hey, that type of anime is better than no anime. ^_^. So who knows, maybe I'll even start watching Tech TV a bit more. *crosses fingers and closes eyes*Please show dubbed versions of Transformers that they havent aired here in America yet.*keeps fingers crossed and eyes closed while repeating this over and over again* :D
Kent
I saw the commercial for this. It all looked like good anime. Specifcally, stuff that hasnt been aired by anyone in america. Some was familiar, some wasn't but it was all really quality stuff. Really nice looking, I wanna stress that. The segment is gonna be called "anime unleashed." It looks like its gonna be really good, and none of it is of the usual stuff. No dbz, nothing like that or anything else aired on tv in america. It looks to be nice. If you wanna catch the commercial, I caught it during the afternoon daily airing of extended play. Try and catch it, cause it looks like this stuff is gonna be nice. Till I hear more... bye

As for Neon Genesis Evangelion, I really doubt it, mainly because they won't be able to get the copyright for it. ADV films most likely wants to be the first to release it, on the anime channel. However, it does seem right that they would be showing tech anime. And ones that have never aired sound even better. >_<
Kent
Well I know that what I say wasn't nge because I would have been able to call that. But the stuff I say, even though I was farmiliar with it, and it was quality, I cant say what exactly it was they will show. I wish I could but for now, let me say this, it was quality looking. I dont really know how to go into much more than that since I cant give a title, but I know that its not old. Im gonna look into it as much as possible now because I personally want to know, but when or if I find out more, I will put it here right then. I suggest everyone else keeps an ear out or atleast checks an ep. of extended play during the daily running to see if you of you guys and spot what show or movie it is they are gonna show. btw, it was deffinatly more than one of what ever it was, movie or show. But for sure, there was more than one style. I hope you guys can help me out with this, cause tech tv doesnt seem to be hyping it much yet, but we will see. Lets just do any net researching we can and then just try and be patient.

Kent
Ive got a good amount of the "downlow" on the subject. "crest of the stars," "serial experiments lain," "betterman," "dual," "silent mobius." All of those are deffinatly on the schedule. But on the web site for tech tv, they also had an add up that was unmistakably a picture from "macross plus" while that picture/ad also had the name "ghost in the shell" on it. So there is a chance of both of those coming up on their schedule sometime in the future. The starting of this stuff will be on Dec. 30, starting with "crest of the stars." I hope we all get to catch this stuff. Even if we've seen it before, its always nice to see it more or again. Plus its nice to see the "sub culture" of anime growing. I think we should pull something like the rick hunter anime review club "thingy" and talk about the stuff that airs on tech here, rather than have a bunch of different threads started by every newb. the day these shows air. What do you think?
Mako
Just what we need. More dubbed anime on TV.
Kent
Oh please... More dubbed anime on tv! Hmmmm... That is so cliched. And (Mako) that post is just about what I would call spam. Plus, dubbed or not, its still anime that most people dont get to see. So no matter how much some "hard core fans" hate dubbed, it still contributes to the growth of anime, far more than the anime that keeps a language barrier between "us and them." (of course I know sub titles are there. But alot of people dont like to read constantly, they like to watch the anime itself. Although I have no beef with subs.) Either way, Im super crazy about the idea of anime going to tech tv. This is just one more chance for a love of mine, that far too many of my friends dont appreciate, to get the attention it deserves and be appreciated. So, theres just one more thing. I might not be a mod. but I still know that if this crap about subbed and dubbed keeps up, a mod. is gonna get in here and remind us all of what a stupid argument it is. Btw, everyone should go back to the bottom of page one and read the post I put up. It has the list of anime coming to tech tv, and it has some personal insights about what might be on the horizon for anime unleashed. (tech tv anime)
Mako
The question is, is that "growth" good or bad? Yes, it will give more people a chance to watch anime (or give some a chance to watch more anime) but it will simply spurt off into more and more idiot fanboys/fangirls. That huge cult behind DBZ, you can't tell me you actually like that, can you? Same thing goes for Pocket Monsters, and Yu-Gi-Oh to a slightly lesser extent. I wouldn't mind anime on tv, but the fact that most dubs end up being terrible beyond belief turns me off. I'll stick with my fansubs thank you. Kent
Well, the way I see it, no one ever said to drop your fan subs. However, when you sit there and knock on dubbed stuff, it makes you sound like the opposite side of that extreme fanboy crap. You know the fanboy you mentioned, the dbz idiots. Well for alot of us who are in the middle, we see extreme dubbed haters who never have anything positive to say unless its about an anime barely anyone knows of. Then the second that anime gets big, its not cool any more for some unexplainable reason. I think that the growth of anime and tech tv picking it up is a good thing. As you said, more fans get to see more, and new fans will be created. This will have a possible end product that will make anime that is acceptable to you (subbed) more availible to not just you, but many others that may end up wanting to see it. By tech showing it, all that could happen is a positive growth, more anime in stores, movie theaters, movie rentals, and cable television. Of course idiot fanboys may catch on, but why let them ruin an amazing thing that you were already enjoying. If you were enjoying an apple and then everyone ate an apple, would an apple taste any worse than it already did. NO. Plus, like I said, no one asked you to drop the subbed, just quit with the cliched bashing of the dubbed.

I can't stand 'em. Looking at them made me hate Funi quite a bit. It's one thing for people to enjoy anime, but it's a completely different thing when you have masses upon masses of idiots who literally live for the horribly dubbed series. Now, if they were to get dubs of an acceptable quality, I wouldn't complain at all. I'll just hafta wait and see. Oh, and I only bash the bad dubbed series (majority of dubbed anime on tv). Despite not being that spectacular of a series, Gundam Wing had an acceptable quality dub. :p
Kent
I will not give into your attempts at any personal insults. This dubbed/subbed stuff will end now.
Syk3
Hey, let's try to keep to the subject at hand, shall we? Stop the arguing; we have plenty of other threads that discuss the dubbed/subbed relationship. I really won't mind if TechTV edits these animes for pupblic television. It's when they start screwing with the dialogue and cutting entire scenes when it becomes an issue. Ah, well, we'll see when it is released, which I hope is soon. >.<
Kent
Well, just to mention.. I put up the time of the first airing, but off the top of my head I dont remember it. I believe the program first to air will show at 10:00 Jan. 13. Its gonna be the one with the word stars somewhere in the title. Most of that stuff is posted in my thread somewhere in the last page or so. Check it out for a list of everything tech tv is going to air.
Guest Hikaru Ichijyo
A good line up is coming for Tech TV, I'm actually rather surpised that they will be showing that many great anime series that are on my best animes list. Too bad I actually don't have tech Tv, as for the whole sub verses dub issue. I'm going to only put out this warning one last time stop with that bs, we've gone over that debate over a million times and the answer is neither dub or sub is right or wrong its all a matter of preference. Now back to the topic and the next person I catch doing that dub vs. sub thing is going to be really sorry.
XeEmO
It looks good and all, but it's on at 1:00am eastern time. Because of this I probably wont be able to see it.
