:D Ok, I have this rather interesting idea that may boost the user activity in Anime Lounge. Now guy's I'm thinking on starting a video club sort of thing on OB. Basically I would assign a sort of "homework" assignment for you guys in the form of a video/dvd you must rent for that week and go home and watch. Aftewords we would discuss it in this very same thread in a rather interesting school type sort of manner.

So if everyone is willing to give this a try, we'll start out with an easy anime to find. For this week please go out and rent, unless you own or are willing to buy Spriggan. When you've finished watching the Video we'll discuss it in various aspects.

So what does everyone think of this idea, and are you willing to allow me to expand your horizons on a weekly basis?

So, this is like a bookclub, except for Anime? It sounds pretty interesting, but most of us really have no way to rent animes. At least, I don't. And I certainly don't have the money to buy a movie every week, haha.

In any case, I heard that Spriggan is supposedly based off Trigun, but no Vash? How can you have a Trigun flick without Vash?!?!

I'd do it if I had money heh. Seems like an interesting idea. Maybe if I can get the stuff off Kazaa I'll join in... :)
That seems like a good idea, except I really don't want to be filling up my computer, with me getting a new one in about a month of so, lol. Ohhh, it's a good idea, but I suppose I will miss out on the first couple sessions.

Sounds like fun I'll do it. If I can find a copy in my area is it a series or movie?
It's a movie. I doubt Kevin is going to have us rent an entire series, lol.

Hm, this sounds like a fantastic idea.

Only thing is, I have to work out where to get these animes from! I'm just wondering if there is anywhere nearby that rents out a lot of anime. My local video store has quite a few anime titles, but probably not enough for something like this. -.-;;

;) Well...no I really wouldn't be able to do cover series, mainly for the fact I have to factor in various issues related in doing so. First off, O_o we sort of have a lot of threads based off of series here, and another thing is it would take a good year to have everyone watch the whole series, after all the anime distributors at least in the USA are rather slow to bring out series volumes.

I would like to do a series one eventually but I have to at least go to the video store to see what's avaiable and it would have to be probably one volume at a time, spreaded out between anime movies. After all it would get repeatitive.

As for where to rent them, I'll do some research for you guys that have trouble find them...I'm trying to bring ones that are very easy to find on the markety but I'll post some solutions later.

Umm anymore questions about this idea?

btw- Shy yes lets make it bi-weekly it would be rather hard to do it weekly

Well I found a copy of Spriggan yesterday and was considering picking it up until I saw the $45.00 price tag which decided me against it. I'm going to call around to the video stores in the next couple days and see if anybody carries it.
Forty-five dollars?! I can get the entire series of Trigun for less than that. Not to mention get the Spriggun movie for $11.50 (PM me to find out where!).

In any case, I'm interested to find out which stores you can rent anime from, or if it's possible to do it online. o_O

Have no fear I am here. I had that VHS in my rack for 2 years now. (Haven't seen it since :P ) Just let me scrape of the layer of dust to see if it still works...

As for renting animes, last time I checked Blockbuster usually have some anime. Only thing is that its most likely they're all dubbed and/or not very good anime. The two main reasons why I don't rent. I borrow from friends instead if Kazaa lets me down. :P (which hasn't happened in a long time)

There's always the option of using animeniacs.com.

They have a large selection of exceptionally cheap anime and are a very good resource. I haven't used them, but am looking forward to.

But, back on topic, I think this is a great idea and I'm in full support of it. I'm going to go search for Spriggan, since I've wanted to see it for a while anyway.

Uh... I got a question... everyone seems to be for this idea but when exactly can we begin giving reviews for this? Right now or is there a set date when we turn in our 2 cents?
Umm I guess you didn't read that well I said we were going to discuss this anime in full detail not give a review on it. Reviewing gets way over redundant and I have some interesting topics and view points to make this not a normal run of the mill topic discussion.

As for the beginning this discussion....I'd like that when people actually have seen it that they at least post that they did. I'll give everyone till Next Tuesday to get ahold of Spriggan, and then we'll start this ok?

Sounds like a good idea to me. ^-^

I bought Spriggan when it was released in the US, and I liked it. They had some really cool fight scenes, and I like the exotic music. ^^ McDougal was really annoying after a while, though... It seemed to carry on too long, but I still enjoyed the movie. Not one of my faves, but still good...

Funny, I was going to suggest the exact same site. o_O One thing, however, there is no ".com" site, just ".net" and ".org" I believe. :) I've used them...::counts:: For five purchases, great selection, prices, and reliability.

Yeah, kind of straying the topic here. I've got my new computer (gives me a faster system to download with and has a larger hardrive), so I should be able to see Spriggun any day now. But then, if you are going to discuss it Tuesday, I better wait until the next anime. After all, I want all of you to begin these discussions as soon as possible; that is what this thread is for.

I'm in, but wait. I'm not old enough to drive, so it might take me buy, oh say, about by Saturday before I get it. So, I'm just a little lazy. Srry, but I'll watch some. Also, do we have to watch anything like Akira. I can't watch it when my lil' brother, and other stuff. So I ask if you can keep those kind of animes down for awhile. Thanks.

I'll take a wild guess and say not too many people must have gotten a hold of this since no one is discussing this and a week has past since the deadline. For me no one in my area is carrying it as a rental and I have not found the time to buy it online, sorry. Hopefully I can get a hold of the next one you discuss.

Spriggan is certainly an excellent anime, So I have watched it. I guess I could discuss the religious side of things, In some areas it was blasphemous, like saying Noahs ark was a super kind of space ship made of titanium steel or something, with special locks and super technology, that's saying they don't believe an ark as described in the bible can stay afloat.

On the other hand, the evil kid (forgot his name) Seems like the beast of revelation, with a death wound that was healed. It certainly links to the bible in more ways than one.
