Ura Zelda Screens (Image Heavy)

As many of you will already know, preorders for The Legend of Zelda: Kaze No Takuto (the new GameCube Zelda in Japan) are well and truly underway.

Interestingly, Japanese gamers receive two special discs if they preorder. The first disc includes various new gameplay footage (including games such as Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles, F-Zero: GC and more). The second disc includes both Ocarina of Time ported directly to GameCube (not bad considering it's 100% free), and Ura Zelda. Ura Zelda was originally destined for the 64DD -- it was to become one of the key games that Nintendo would use to sell the add-on.

However, the 64DD failed in Japan and was not released elsewhere. It didn't receive enough support from Nintendo, simply because it became unnecessary (by the time it released, N64 standard cartridges could hold just as much memory if not more).

Ura Zelda was essentially an expansion pack for Ocarina of Time. Whilst I'm not sure on the exact changes, I am aware that Ura Zelda's dungeons are slightly different from those of OoT. And apparently there are some other new secrets and puzzles. Ura Zelda literally means "Another Zelda" in Japanese.

The coolest thing is that Ura Zelda was never released, despite being in a near-complete stage for 64DD. So Nintendo is taking this opportunity to release it for free to Japanese fans. Hopefully these two discs will arrive in North America, Australia and Europe as well. But only time will tell.

For now, I thought I'd share some screens of Ura Zelda with you. Enjoy! ^.^

The Megaton image is a joke haha. IGN took these from Gaming Age, a guy from Tokyopia.com posted them... Megaton is basically a running joke at GA, and I'm surprised IGN didn't figure that out. I think the guy named himself that, not sure heh :).

The graphics are basically the same. I'm not clear on if the graphics run high res now or not, but some of the edges and textures are noticably smoothed out (especially Zelda and Gannon). The framerate is the same as the N64 versions, and there is a slight load time when you enter menus (blah).

Still a nice free gift... We usually get some crappy t-shirt if anything here lol.

What!? It isn't 60 fps? Why the hell not?
Can we say "lazy"? ;) I doubt Nintendo would spend much time on these two, since they're giving them out for free. They probably just didn't want to take the extra time to fix them up.

But yes, Ganondorf and Zelda's faces look a little smoother, and not as jagged. Especially Ganondorf's nose, lol. ...Saria looks to be pretty much the game, though. (I wonder if they made Malon look any better?) :D I also wonder if there are many more little tweakings like this.

As for this happening outside of Japan... Well, OOT I can see, but I doubt Ura Zelda will make it if there's much translation to do. Here's to hoping, I guess.

I'm wondering how they're going to do the control scheme, though, since you only have four face buttons on the GCN controller instead of six on the N64. I just hope they don't use the C Stick for secondary items, because it could get really annoying, having to flick it back and forth a bunch when using the Fairy Slingshot/Bow.

Why would you need analogue control for the Fairy Bow? You push the button and Link puts an arrow to the string and draws it back. You release the button, and he fires the arrow... There isn't anything in between.

Hmm, lets see here...

Control Stick - Move
A Button - Sword
B Button - Action
C Stick - Secondary Items and First Person View
L Button - Z Targeting
R Button - Shield
Start - Pause

Hmm...that still leaves the X, Y and Z buttons free, along with the Control Pad. I wonder what they'll be used for. I'd like it if you could also use the Control Pad for the secondary items. I don't know what X, Y, and Z could be used for. More secondary items are always good, though.

Hmm...Those developers are pretty weird. They make things like Ganondorf's face much better looking, but they can't change the single line of code that locks on the frame rate.

Why do I have a feeling that the water effects will be those of Mario Sunshine. This remake already has more graphical inconstancies than a PSX-to-DC port, so why not go the full mile?

While it may seem that I'm bashing it, I am actually saying all of this in a positive way.

PGC is now saying the game runs at a higher framerate... But Billy is the one claiming this, and he doesn't seem to be able to distingush between 30 and 60 FPS even (SMS comes to mind). So who knows just yet.

Someone I trust has said otherwise though... Perhaps it runs at a solid 30 FPS now, and not a solid 60? Dunno yet :).

They aren't exactly "free." You can't just walk up to the store and grab them. You have to actually go to the store and preorder the game. I'd bet some places will want you to pay the full $50 so you don't run off with the Zelda comp for nothing heh.

Latest word is that it's definately coming here... Still a rumor of course.

A couple of points to remember:

1) X, Y and Z can be used for secondary items, as an alternative to the C Stick.

2) I don't think the framerate is higher, but rather, the slowdown from the original has been rectified. That seems more logical to me.

*blinks* ...There was slowdown in the original? I don't remember ever being bothered by it, if there was. Either that, or I just don't remember it because it's been so long since I played it much. :cross:

And if they have X, Y, and Z as an alternative for the C Stick, I'd definitely use them instead. Hmm...Fairy Bow on Y, Hookshot/Longshot on X, and the Ocarina of Time on Z... I think that'd work pretty well.

It was there quite often, mostly in wide open spots and in certain temples... The thing was that it was never horrible. I remember Majora being a little worse in this aspect. It seemed like both games generally hovered a little below 30 FPS most of the time.

Did it really go below 30 FPS? If it did, then I never noticed, I never do really.

I think that the X, Y and Z buttons would be a lot better for the secondary items, because with the C-Stick, I can just imagine selecting a wrong item (like whipping out the bottle, instead of firing the Fairy Bow oO). And it would be better, simply because of the fact that they are buttons, like the C-Buttons, so we would be used to using them.

With me, it's not the worry of using the wrong item so much, as it is having to flick the dang stick back and forth for using the Fairy Bow and Fairy Slingshot. (Both of which I use frequently enough for that to be a bother--long range weapons are good!) :D I dunno about other people, but to me that's both harder and slower than just tapping a button. Also, what if the stick is accidentally bumped during a heated battle? You may find yourself holding a Bomb while trying to score the killing blow.

Bleh...I think they should have made it so you could shift your view with the C Stick, but that would have involved more than editing the control scheme, since you can't do that in the original.

i've seen a picture somewhere of the GC OOT, they do use the x, z, and y buttons as the invetory, the a button was the action, and the b button was the sword. but i've seen other pictures with c buttons, but i believe they are fake cuz there was a blue button on it. the GC controller doesn't have a blue round button.
