The End Of The World As We Know it

I sat perched on top of the large statue that the people of Earth called The Statue Of Liberty. Human life was so fragile. With one brisk twist of your hand you could end it. With one smal twich of your sword you could extinguish it. I smiled as I watched the barren streets below. They all have been ordered by the President to stay indoors, "Where the beasts cannot reach you" is what the stupid man had said. It just makes my job easier. I stood up straight and raised my arm in the air. Tens of thousands of demons flew up from the ocean at my command. They hovered, high in the air, waiting for my signal. I closed my eyes and smelled the day. For a full minute I stood, taking in the last fresh breath of air this city would have for a long time. I opened my eyes. They had turned from mellow blue, to a blazing Halloween orange.

Ryan- "Go..." I whispered. The Demons shot through the air toward the city. Some blasted through the statue, crumbling it's supports. The large figure of a woman started to tilt. I moved back a little so to stay parralel with the ground so far below. A large crunch echoes throught he air, and the top of the staue and I were freefalling. I gripped my tattered wings to slow my decent. Air ballooned under them giving me a small dose of pain. They never will fully heal. The large metal woman crashed to the ground. I landed on it's broken face and looked toward mainland. My fleet was doing it's job. Buildings were on fire, some already collapsed from the heat. And not a one of my soldiers were destroyed. I let a smile creep across my lips and jumped in the ocean to swim to the land.

She smiled. She was ready to fly. In several moments, the transformation was complete and her power skyrocketed. Humanity was doomed. And she knew it.

Tarlain sniffed the air. Smoke, brimstone, and sulfer. She knew that could mean only one fo two things.

Demons, or half demons... She could handle demons, but if the Demonhalves were looking for a fight, they wre going to get one. She arched her back and let the spines ripple around her body. Her senses expanded, and she smiled broadly. They were coming.

Celestine's eyes shot open, bloodshot with fear, and terror. She sat up, breathing heavily from the night before.

It was all a dream, a nightmare...

Things couldn't get worse now. People were dying, and the world had no idea why. Celestine knew it wasn't a virus, like many scientists had said. She knew it wasn't snipers, there were no bullets found. She knew the strange things happening in the Atlantic had something to do with this... but what?

Ariadne sighed, and lay back down on her bed, taking a deep breath to clear her mind from the dream. She walked to the sink, turned on the faucet, and jumped back. She screamed when she saw red coming from that faucet... it wasn't water... it was thicker than that.

Celestine turned it of, petrified with fear. Whatever it was, it was starting there as well...

The Empire State building was smoking, various fires erupting on several floors. Death Knight was hovering above, his platemail glinting in the sunlight. He slowly raised his hand to the sky... The souls of the people he killed screaming as they were transferred into his attack. A small orb formed above his hand, and the city fell silent as everyone felt the darkness descend upon them. Even the demons cowered silently- Death Knight was a harsh being, to say the least.

Silently, Death Knight lowered his hand, aiming directly in the center of the Empire State Building. A bright flash eminated from his palm, as a black beam cascaded downward, straight through the core of the empire state building. The windows exploded outwards, as a massive firestorm exploded from the base. The whole building exploded in a final blast, Dust and debries raining across the nearby areas. The explosion blew out windows across the city, and Death Knight silently descended onto the streets...

Death Knight: You heard the General... ... Go.

The demons reinstiated the attack, even as the plume of dust expanded around the surronding area- The Empire State building had been completely destroyed, all the people within it killed from the necromatic magic that was imbedded in his 'Diablos Maximos' Attack.

Slowly reaching to his back, Death Knight drew Apocalypse Darkness, and kicked down the door to one of the apartments. The man of the house was standing there with a shotgun, shaking, sweating, pointed right at Death Knight's head.

Man: No damned beasts are gonna enter this house! Leave us alone!

Death Knight: ..... Get out of my way.

Using the weight of his sword, Death Knight sliced the arm of the man clean off- It dropped to the floor with a thud, the rifle that he was holding with it. He yelled as loud as he could, before Death Knight ripped his throat apart with his hand, his blood dripping off the cold-hearted undead demon's bones. He silently walked up the stairs, to the kids room...

The children were crying- They had heard their father's scream. They screamed as well, as Apocalypse Darkness cut through the wall, slowly heading for the door. The knob jiggled slightly, as the hatred that flowed from Death Knight eminated into the room. He looked down to the children, and stopped.

Death Knight: ......... Run. Run as fast as you can from this place........

The Children cryed louder, as a small blue shield appeared on them. Ripping Apocalypse Darkness out of the wall, Death Knight silently descended back down the stairs, kicking the body of the man out of the way.

Tarlain followed the smells, and soon came upon a group of demons leaving a rather dipledated house....DeathKnight looked up. A huge female Dragouret was standing in front of him. Flexing her wings, horns glittering.....and she was smiling.

Death Knight: Get lost.

She tossed her head like a girl and winked at him, as if to say,

"Make me."

He glared at her, but that only served to fuel her amusment...

As all that was going on down on Earth, the Goddess and God were watching over in disgust. The God called upon the East Gaurdian, Valen Cernunnos, to come to his quaters. As God talked, Valen looked down at the big rip in the ocean where the demons were flying out from.

God: As you can see, the world is in chaos right now. People are dieing left and right. Your mission is to go to Earth, extinguish the demons, and get back here with their souls.

Valen: May I ask you a question?

God: What is it?

Valen: How..... exactly.... am I supposed to take the souls of souless beings?

God: Find a way! Now go!

Valen: Yes sir!

Valen got up and left God's headquaters. He wasn't too happy with his mission, but saw it as a way to show to God and Goddess that he could be relied on to carry out such a task. On his way out, he stopped by the Goddess's quaters and informed her of his new assignment. She agreed to it and let him go. He spread his wings and took off for Earth.

On his way there, he saw all the light from the fires the demons have been starting. He didn't look too thrilled to be here. Perhaps this would be harder than he thought. He decended into the atmosphere and down to the ground. He landed just about a mile outside of New York. This was the start of his mission.

Death Knight: ..... You're a quirky creature. Leave me be....

Death Knight silently felt that the children in the house had evacuated, like he told them to, and he silently walked twards it. He swung his sword as hard as he could, and cut the house in two- It imploded in on itself, and several demons nodded to Death Knight that it was time to head to Time Square, to clear that area out of humans.

But the mana in the area changed suddenly, as holiness entered the area. Death Knight's glowing red eyes darted up, and he silently sighed...

Death Knight: .... I must depart... a Godsent is here....

Death Knight took his sword and sliced into the air harshly, ripping a tear into space itself- Teleportation magic at its best. He jumped into the portal, and it sealed up tightly behind him..

Behind Valen, Apocalypse Darkness ripped out of nothingness, the portal reopening. Death Knight slowly stepped out, and looked at Valen.

Death Knight: ...... Dont make me kill a Godsent.... I'm damned enough as it is....... Just leave this place....

Celestine quickly got dressed, pulling over a tight, white, leather jumpsuit on, and walking outside. She looked down at a small puddle of water, suddenly glowing red from the center. Celestine kicked the puddle, and continued down the sidewalk, staring at the crimson sky above her.

It was Sunday. She walked past the church, and stopped. She hadn't gone to church in years... She walked inside, and stopped at the alter. A bowl of water lay at the center, still in perfect condition, not a drop of blood to be seen...

Celestine sat on her knees, and stared at the cup. How come it hadn't been affected yet?

The church was silent and abandoned, unlike the city of New York 10 miles or so away from her position, which was torn now and ablaze. Suddenly something in the rafters moved. A young woman peeked her head down and looked around to check to see if the coast was clear before sighing and pulling herself upright into a sitting position upon the floor of the ancient churches attic. You could now easily see that, she had wings! She was in fact an angel... not personallity-wise but in other ways. She had to hide here, it was the only place she could hide without being discovered, discovery was not an option. She went over to a non-stained glass window and peeked out in the direction of New York and shuddered. She was now starting to regret leaving her home in the first place.

Death Knight picked up the Mana of another holy innate creature. He hunched over, silently breathing, waiting for Valen's move.

Death Knight: .... Godsent.... Godsent.... Godsent... Blessed be the Godsent that heeds the warnings of a foolish knight, that the day he walks into the wrathful hordes of Demons that are seiging, is the last day he sees the sun.... I must depart, and warn the other holy one....

Using the weight of his sword, he slashed a portal open again, jumping into it.

Near Karina, a sword ripped out of nowhere, literally, and Death Knight silently walked out, heaving his sword onto his shoulder. He silently stared at Karina...

Death Knight: .... Flesh Creature, Depart from this land.... This is a warning from Death Knight, Helper of the Demon Horde's Leader....

The age old skeleton silently walked twards the exit of the church, the souls that were trapped within his sword screaming out to the holy mana flowing through the air to help them...

Karina stared at where Death Knight had exited, and let out a relived sigh after she was sure he was long gone. She sank to the floor, relived that he hadn't tryed to attack her. After she had calmed herself down she went and gathered up her weapons and other gear, if what he had said was true, she wasn't planning on staying here any longer. She carefully folded her wings up behind her and pulled her jacket on to hide them. She then went through the annoying process of sliding her pack onto her shoulders without hurting herself. After she was done she went to the edge of the hole in the ceiling and looked down, it was a good 50 foot drop to the ground. She leapt through the hole and made a perfect landing right in the isle.

Karina: Ok time to go to New York! Now the real fun begins!

She sprinted outside across the front lawn of the church. She stoped and took one last look back before heading down the road towards the city on foot...

A drop of blood fell from the roof, into the bowl of water in the church Celestine was in. Startled, she stepped back and looked up.

From Behind her, a voice came..

Death Knight: Cities were alot more majestic in the middle ages....... now they are all just grey....... monotonous.......

Silently, Death Knight sat in the midst of the church, staring at the bowl. He had teleported here, due to the lack of any type of mana around. He could silently remain here intill the battle was over in New York, and Ryan called on him to lead the army into battle once more.

Death Knight: ...... ...... What is your name, child?

Celestine backed away from the skeleton, and gasped at its features.
How was it still walking??? Did it have somthing to do with the things happening then?

"Celestine." She replied, pulling out her handgun from her belt. "Who the hell are you?"

The skeleton chuckled, as he approached her. As he approached her, Celestine pulled the gun towards the skeleton's head, her hands trembling.

"Well?"

"A knight from the middle ages. I'm here for a reason." He replied, his face motionless.

Celestine lowered her gun and sighed.

"So you do know something about what's been happening..." Celestine implied, her hand still tightly gripping the gun.

"Maybe."

Valen snapped out of the daze that he was in when Death Knight had appeared. He only heard the last thing he had said. Valen drew his katana and walked towards New York.

On his way there, he noticed that the statue wasn't there anymore and that there was an orangish light illuminating above the city. He walked onwards into the city. There were few buildings left standing in this disasterous place. The buildings that were left standing were in flames ready to collapse at any moment.

Valen: Woah... this place is worse than I thought it would be... better get ready...

Valen drew his Isis Dagger and combined it with his Katana in a flash of crimson light. He gripped the new hilt and walked onward drawing ever closer to Time Square.

Death Knight: You dont really want to know, do you?

Celestine: I dont really have to answer that, do I?

Death Knight: ..... Should I show you in person, or would you rather I just tell you?

Death Knight wondered about the repercussions that might come if he took the mortal to New York, but she seemed honestly curious about what was happening. Flesh Creatures were easily caught, attention wise that is, and any somewhat interesting thing could draw them in dangerously close to the forces that cause the interesting thing...

"Show me." She replied, putting the gun away, and stepping up towards him. "As long as it explains everything that's been going on."

Death Knight gestures for Celestine to step away, as he slowly reaches for his sword once again. In that instant, he swung his sword down, slicing the thin air, as a portal appeared before them. Celestine stepped back, looking at the portal, bewilderingly.

"Well, you've just won a one-way ticket to New York." He says, motioning her to step in.

Celestine hesitates before stepping towards the portal, and stares at him.

"If I find out this is all-" Celestine stops, and continues staring at his motionless face. It made no difference whether it was a trick or not. It didn't matter anyway...

She stepped up towards the portal, taking one more glance at Death Knight. She stepped inside the portal, as he stepped in behind her.

Everyone needs a little transportation to the hot spot now and then...

---

Both of them stepped out ontop of a skyscraper in the midst of New York. Various buildings were demolished, and many fires were out of control around the whole Metropolis. Demons were flying everywhere, slaughtering humans every step of the way.

Medra: Helping humans out again, Friend?

Death Knight: .............. Why arent you killing with them, Medra?

Medra: I needed a break *shrugs* I'm going back at it now. Heh heh. Watch yourself- Someone might wonder whos side you are fighting for if you hang out with mortals too much.

Medra the Demon jumped over both of them, and flew down to where most of the action was. Death Knight turned around, and silently walked a few steps away...

Death Knight: I believe... biblically... this is called... Armageddon....

Karina ran along the side of the now unused and empty highway. Every once in awhile she would come across a giantic crater in the middle of the highway. After the fourth or fifth one she stopped by the side of one and looked down into the deep pit, cars were piled high filled the bottom of it.

Karina: This is just wrong!

She shook her head sadly and continued on her way drawing ever nearer to New York. She didn't know why she was hurrying. Maybe the fact that she had to get someplace safe from the demons before nightfall, all she knew was that she felt drawn to go there as if she was being summoned. After about 2 or so more hours of straight walking/running/jogging she gave up and sat down upon the guardrail. She wasn't used to this, running for her life wasn't something she had to do very often.

Karina: Oh please dont let me be seen...

She placed her pack down upon the ground, pulled her jacket off and stuffed it into her pack. She now unfurled her sandy colored wings and stretched them out. She picked her bag up and slung it over her left shoulder. She flapped a couple of times, testing them, because she hadnt flown in awhile... Unless you count the short trip into the attic of a church flying. Karina had been dreading this moment for awhile now, if someone other then a demon spotted her she'd be done for... not as in death though.

Karina: I'm glad that the four guardians won't come down, I know that much... At least... I hope that they won't.

She was airboune in seconds, now reaching the city by different means that she favoured more then walking. After a few minutes she could see the remains of a skyscraper looming ahead of her. She dropped altitude drastically and sped up. She landed in the middle of a city street and looked around at the destruction around her. Buildings were no more than blazeing enfernos.

Karina: hmmm my isn't this... Very firey? Those acursed demons, never knowing when to leave well enough alone and going off and destroying everything!

She continued to walk down the streets of the once busy city feeling slightly nervous, as if she was being watched...

Valen saw Medra and the demon jump down. He glanced at the big one... it was indeed Medra...

Valen: Oh Shi--! It's Medra... what the heck is he doing here!?

Valen jumped behind a building hoping to keep out of sight. But the moment he had landed against the building...

Valen had heard a rumbling sound coming from inside the walls of this building... it was about to collapse on him! He jumped and flew out of the way of the crashing debris from the top of the building. The building came crashing down in a huge cloud of dust that covered the immediate area. Valen saw this as his chance to get around Medra and finish scaling the damage.

He flew through the dustcloud going through a few flames that were finally starting to die out. He came across a tall structure and decided to stop, for it wasn't touched yet. He hoped they had forgotten about this building.

Valen: Hmmm they haven't gotten this building yet... thankfully...

High in the clouds above New York, an army awaits. Clothed in white robes and pure-silver mails, wings retracted. Armed with master-crafted swords, the finest longbows, glaives and lances. White shields, all with a two-winged crest engraved on the front of them.

The Holy legion.

Leading the army of angels stands Simikiel. He holds the sword Apragsin high up, ready to issue his command. He looks down to the surface, seeing a wave of demons crash into the city from the shoreline. Simikiel brings the Apragsin down, pointing it down to the streets of the evil-ridden city.

Simikiel: Charge.

The angels spread their wings, and swooped down, brandishing their weapons. The ones armed with lances launched first, lances held out strongly infront of them to pierce demons as they swept through the streets. Next went the ones with glaives to clean up the rest of the lesser evils. And now came the main attack. Angels with bows and swords flew down from the skies to join the skirmish. Simikiel lead them into the streets, and begun the slaughter of the satanic creatures.

One after another, Simikiel takes their heads with his sword, Apragsin. Mercilessly, he strikes them down, lining the streets with blood. Effortlessly, hordes of them are annhilated with a few slashes of the Apragsin. Simikiel grins. It's been awhile.

Death Knight silently walked past Celestine, and looked down at the angels. His glowing red eyes stopped glowing... He had shut his eyes. He reached back, drawing Apocalypse Darkness, and he silently looked back to Celestine...

Death Knight: ....... Guns do work on everything with flesh.... remember that..... We will meet again.....

With that he jumped off the building, Hasting himself. He fell further and further, flipping to where he was upright in the air. He landed with a loud crash, the concrete around him cracking.

Death Knight: ...

Silently, he raised his hand... Down the street around a mile away, was a large battle. The Holy Legion against Demons... Death Knight new it was his duty to dispense with any of the Holy Legion. A small orb began to form in his hand, as the innate mana in the area suddenly turned to Necromatic. Wispy souls flew out from his sword, screaming, and into the orb. Death Knight's eyes flashed red as he raised his hand...

Death Knight: DIABLOS MAXIMOS!

He threw his hand out, and a large beam cascaded down the street, ripping apart the asphault with ease. Various Demons screamed aloud, jumping out of the way as the beam hit them- Their bare flesh ripping apart. The beam continued on for a short distance, before exploding in a massive mushroom cloud...

Valen looked at the army of angels flying by and slaughtering every demon in their way. It looked as if they were going to win effortlessly. Until Death Knight's beam pretty much exterminated most of the warriors.

Valen jumped, about to take flight, when he was stopped by something. He looked around and saw something attatched to his leg. He gripped his Isis Katana and slashed at the demon. The demon's body split as if it was a liquid. This confused Valen. No demon has ever done that before or went down that easily.

Valen looked at the mushroom cloud, sighed, and muttered something to himself...

Valen: So much for the backup...

He took flight once again and headed towards the middle of the city.

Karina felt so out of place as she wandered through the destruction. suddenly she felt the Earth shake violently under her feet, she whipped around and spotted the mushroom cloud, so close...less then 10 blocks away.

Karina: Oh crap!

She opened her wings up again, she didnt care if she was seen anymore, she got into the air as fast as she could and started flapping for all she was worth, getting deeper into the concrete jungle.

Death Knight: ...

Silently, he sheathed his sword and walked foreward. His iron boots clanked in the silence that was only broken by the occasional human scream. A fog was beginning to fall on the city, almost ominously. It was thick enough to hamper Death Knight's vision- He had to rely on the sounds he was hearing, and the mana he was feeling around him to detect where most of the fighting was.

Death Knight: ... ... ... ...

Slowly, almost hesistantly, he arrived to where Simikiel was fighting with the surviving members of the Holy Legion. Death Knight hunched over, almost on all fours, before charging foreward at high speed, sword drawn.

Celestin: .....my god.

A low, gentle pur registered behind her and she whirled around. Huge wing. Horned forehead. Glittering teeth. Beast. She screamed, until she saw the human like smile. Tarlain watched this girl patiently....She was so excitable....then again. Most humans were. She held out a hand gently....palm up.

Celestine put out her own and shook the Dragouret's gently. Her hands were rough, but not unkind...

"My name is Celestine. Who are you?"

The speechless Dragouret shook her head helplessly and gestured to her throat. The human noded in understanding. So she was mute. Oh well.

The Dragouret placed one clawed hand on Celestine's forehead, memories flooding into her mind.

"I am Tarlain....last of my kind."
