G/S/B Master
Well,I'm getting very annoyed by Cactaurs running away constantly. How do I stop them from running?I think I can stop them by casting Berserk on them. But I never made a sucessful shot because I put 100 Berserk into My Status Attack and try to attack but no Sucessful hits.I try casting on them but they easily run away from me....I noticed that when My character make a move,1 of them run away. I tested that theory but it rarely works. So,How do I make them not run away?
Flash
I suggest using that ability that lets your character start off with a full ATB bar at the start of a battle, and also try using limit breaks. Seeing as limit breaks take priority over any other attacks, including the Cactuar's escape. I suggest you use Irvine's Fire shot, it's a sure way to take out groups of Cactuars. Valen
Haha that is quite simple. Junction Haste(100) to speed for squall and the others, use the ST-ATK-J and equip Death(100) to the Status Attack and whip those little boneheads down... hey, they're good AP... 20 a peice... But you can also use Flash's method... and hope you get something like Fated Circle and have 5 cactaurs in the battle... There is also an Item called Jet Engine which lets a GF learn SPD+40% (I think it's 40%) and junction that too... it helps a lot... Btw, junction 100 tornado spells to attack... that'll make them go down a lot quicker. [Refine 5 or 20 windmills for 100 tornado]
G/S/B Master
Does Accelerators let a GF learn SPD+60?
Valen
I think so... you can try it... but I really didn't go after the cactaurs until i got the ship thing and the Lionheart... very deadly on limit break.... love it...
JCBaggee
Junction as much Water magic as possible to Squalls Elem-Atk-J. Let everyone else cast Water or just stand around like a useless bump on a log. Regardless, just killing one will give you 20AP, which alone is very nice. --J.C.
Valen
Yes, but if you at least hit one, you get half the AP that that enemy is worth... so Kill 1 and hit 1 and you get 30AP...
G/S/B Master
THats strange, when I hit one successfully hit one with Squall,I get nothing.
Flash
That's not how it works. If you hit them in battle, you get like 10% of the experience. Not the AP.
Valen
Hrm... I thought that said AP... musta been 10 EXP then... heh...sorry!

Hinata
Originally posted by Gohan Where do u find Cactaurs?
Go to the little island to the East of Esthar and Centra. But you won't be able to land on it until the 3rd of 4th Disc. In which you need to use the Ragnarok. Also see if Quistis' Aquabreath may work...(Can't remember really...it's been a while since I've played.)
G/S/B Master
Maybe I should put Water in ELemental Junction and Stop in Status Junction. So I would cause Serious damage to them and would be frozen at the same time. Can't wait till I get Strange Vision for Selphie (maximum Hit Rate!!!).*Goes off continuing playing Final Fantasy VIII killling Quistis to get her to the danger HP so she could use the Limit Break*
Valen
Either Water or Death junctions. Those work best... Cactaurs = Weak agaist water... and Also, level up your GFs to get the Initiate ability... first strike every battle for the character who has it equiped. There is a beach on the southeast side of the bulge (The desert) where you can land B-Garden and walk through a small path, hand a U-turn and you're there... Map (c)Final Flash, 2002. SephirothNIN
The island where u can find cactuars is South of Esthar, not East. They're in the giant desert section of the map east of the lighthouse. As for actually fighting the things, I found squall w/ the lionheart hit them almost every time, and if the others ran away who cares, just means u have to get in another battle. If you have a high compatibility, try summoning a GF too, they'll come out super-fast. I could've sworn there was some easy way to beat a cactuar but...er...I don't remember what it is, I remember spells didn't do that much damage, and just made em run away. My best guess would be to go into battle w/ someone in critical HP so they can use a limit break right away, maybe Irvine.
Valen
Yes, and when you get into a battle with Five Cactaurs, you have to think fast... hopefully you have an item (I forgot which one it is) that boosts your compatability with Leviathan (Drawn from Garden Master N.O.R.G. around the beginning of Disc 2) to 1000 or use any items you can to boost GF Compatability to it's max for a character... except Carbuncle... s/he's just cute and casts reflect (or was it Protect?) on the whole party... Then after you're sure the GFs can come out as soon as you select it (usually takes between 950-1000 comp. [Check in the GF command on the menu]), then you're home free for the 100AP you get from a 5 Cactaur battle... good luck!
G/S/B Master
Well, here's a con for you all:I can't summon any GF.Pandemona already know Initiate. My brain doesn't think fast and quickly summon a GF.....Does Ifrit kill Cactuars? He's level 78,he learned Sum Magic 10,20,and 30%.*Mutters about should've gotten Jumbo Cactuar in Disk 2* Edit: WOOOOO!!! I'm having a time of my life destroying these little brats! It's like GF ability heaven.I'm almsot done with Carbuncle's,Leviathan, and I think the Brother's GF Ability. Thanks a lot guys!!!!
