Guest Musahi
From Gamepro.com So what is Metal Gear Solid 2 designer Hideo Kojima working on now that Substance is done? According to a report in the Japan Industrial Journal today, his main project is a Game Boy Advance action RPG with a light sensor sticking out of it. Called Bokura no Taiyo ("Our Sun" in Japanese), the new GBA game's sensor is calibrated to measure the strength of surrounding light. The sensor can tell the difference between natural sunlight and indoor light sources, and where you decide to play Bokura no Taiyo will have a major effect on the game. If you play outside on a bright, sunny day, for example, this will be reflected in the power of your character and the area he goes around in; if you play in the dark, you'll have a harder time proceeding. In other words, you'll need to watch when and where you play this game to do well at at. Bokura no Taiyo is due out sometime between the spring and summer of 2003 in Japan; no U.S. release was mentioned. As for the gameplay itself, the journal (being a trade publication) didn't say much, mentioning something about defeating vampires as part of the game but not getting into any specifics. We'll keep you posted.
Interesting news eh? I can't wait till I can get my hands on some screens. Hopefully it will be brought over to the U.S. Knowing Kojima he is going to work wonders for this game. Desbreko
I've also heard that he's making a Metal Gear Solid 3, actually, but I don't know if it's true... This sounds very interesting, though. If the game has to do with fighting vampires, I wonder if the amount of light around changes how many and how strong the vampires are.
Guest Morph
...Sweet, that would be so cool if what your saying is true Desbreko. I would love to see a MSG3. I really like vampire based games like the Blood Omen series. Its a good type. I really want to see more of this in the future!
Hideo Kojima said many times in many interviews that he would most certainly not be working on another MGS game... although money or just the thrill may have tempted him back, lol. The whole light detection part seems a very cool idea to implement into a game, as long as they don't botch it I'm going to look out for this one. All I have to do now is buy a GBA! ;)
Schrat
wow, that cartridge looks sweet...But the thing that worries me is that the "board" is not covered...
NorykoAngelcry
Very interesting idea. Game will be interesting depending on how well the light sensor works. I really don't go outside much to play video games, but perhaps that would get a lot of people outside playing some games in some fresh air *shrug* And I would hope they would come up with some sort of protective cover for the sensor (and the exposed board). A clear plastic cover would work fine I suppose?
Desbreko
Lol, yeah, they're not going to just leave it hanging out in the open like that. The picture is probably just of a prototype or something like that.
Sniglefager
Actually, about that MGS3 thing, Electronic Gaming Monthly has reported that he will be working on a new MGS. Also, that "My Sun" game, it's actually gonna be about a vampire.
Desbreko
Yeah, that's where I heard that he's going to be working on another MGS. It was in the rumors section, though, so it may not be true.
Kinetic
I would imagine that he would make another, seeing how they
left such a huge cliff hanger at the end of MGS2, what with the Patriots being men who died so long ago. They wouldn't just leave it at that, would they?
As for the light sensor idea, I think that's brilliant, although people wouldn't be able to see the game as well, thanks to the sun. I would just deal with the hardness level and stay in the dark :p
