I was watching the episode vegeta's pride yesterday and I was completely amazed. I never thought that I would ever hear Vegeta say what he said in that episode. When he was watch Gokou and Kid Buu fight. It just isn't the vegeta that I am used to hearing. It kind of caught me off-gaurd

Vegets has been through a few changes over the 250 odd episodes, His character has developed and changed over the series, and I like that in an Anime. Vegeta's evil character has slowly been turned good, showing Toryamas professionalism when it comes to manga storylines.

It is quite true Vegeta is on his own side a lot of the time but he does eventually turn semi-good.

Vegeta was an absolutly classic villian, very ruthless and backstabbing and then through getting to know people and sharing his life and even sacrificing it, Vegeta gradually grows to become good of charcter a suberb and difficult process to do

What did Gokou say to Vegeta so Vegeta would sallow his pride and fuse with Goku? I only get to see the dubb so I'm not sure on this one.
In the series, he did exactly like he did in the dub by tellin him about all of his friends and family being killed and that they'd be next if they didnt fuse.

In the movie though, its a totally different story. I wont tell ya that though since you havent seen it yet and I dont wanna ruin nothin for ya. ^_^

I kinda wonder whether the topic of this thread is the episode "vegetas pride" or the pride of vegeta itself.

I would say it looks like both, and so I will comment on both.

As for that individual ep. I thought it was excellent. The art quality and the charactor insight provided by this episode are both worth taking the time to watch.

Now, for the subject of vegetas pride itself...

Well this is one of the more in depth subjects in dragonball. Vegeta has always been a charactor that was so tied to his pride that the story is always working around it.

Whether fighting freiza, cell or buu, they all got a taste of vegetas pride.

I think the best example of charactor development which occurred in the dbz story was in the 12th movie, when vegeta and gokou were fighting janenba.

It was just after vegeta showed up and tried to fight janenba by himself, he lost that scuffle quickly and ended up in a huge pile of spikes trying to recoperate.

Gokou got to him quickly and the two exchanged words... it was in this dialoge that the event occurs.

Vegeta actually begins to cry, not because he was beaten down, but because he couldnt do what gokou was trying to do. Although niether were succesful, vegeta felt ashamed once again due to his inability to succed were kakarot failed.

While vegeta is crying and venting himself aloud, telling gokou about his own feelings of failure, gokou says something to the likes of..."ah, I would expect nothing less, vegeta, my prince of saiyans."

In that one speech it becomes obvious that vegetas pride is so important through out the whole series, that even gokou has come to respect vegetas pride.

Vegeta is with no doubt one of the most complex charactors in the series and for that reason amongst others, I will say that vegeta is a wonderful asset to the db series.

well vegeta has made a 360 degree change, remember when we first got to know him? and how he was gonna kill everything? and now look at him, willing to kill himself to save everything...its just so freaking great what AT did dont ya think?

Even though Vegeta's pride is one of the most fascinating & appealing things about him, it has also been a hindrance to him rising to the levels of power that he wanted. I touched on it in Gokents' thread "Natural Talents & Abilities" so I won't repeat myself, but if you want to know my opinion, read that post of mine.

Another thing to add is that the more Vegeta lets go of him pride throughout the series, the happier & less stressed he becomes. I think Vegeta's pride is more "ego" than "self-esteem."

This ep. was definitely one of my favorites. Vegeta has always been one of my fav. characters, and seeing this change in him was amazing. Of course, you could see a small change when he sacrificed himself to try and kill Buu, but this episode showed you how living on Earth with a wife, son, and with friends totally changed his attitude. Vegeta is definitely the most interesting character to watch, because of how he was in the earlier episodes.

I just wanted to bring this back because I remembered it and knew it would serve as a good thread to get across my point.

Just yesterday they (cn) showed vegetas respect.

It was a great episode to see vegeta finally come to terms with the fact that gokou is the the greatest fighter in the universe.

Im also gonna find another thread that gets to another point I have to make about power levels...

Lets hope its still around so I dont have to start a new thread.

vegeta was the most original anime character i have ever seen, i swear. and his pride adds alot to that. but that pride of his seems to be slowly dissapating as the series progresses. i haven't seen any of GT yet, but i'm afraid vegeta's gonna totally lose it in that series. that sucks because his pride is a big part of his personality. when he said that about goku being the best and everything...i dunno...it just didn't seem like it was really him saying it, ya know?

Pretty funny ^_^ I liked him when he still held his pride filled grudges, about the time he killed the downed ginyu force with out thought* that was when he became my fav character. Or even when he and Napa were on the rampage actually becuase my last fav char piccalo was growing to weak and his competition with goku was over*

I object! Goku is not automatically the best fighter in the universe because his power level is enormous. You need strategy to beat a monster like Buu. He couldn't be beaten with the two powers of Goku or Vegeta, but if Vegeta didn't suggest the idea of using all the Earth's people's energy to make a Spirit Bomb they would all be dead right now. I'm only saying that Vegeta is way smarter than Goku can ever hope to be.

Well, I don't have a chance to watch all of DBZ episodes yet...due to my busy schedule. :( Vegeta character is very original, it's one of the best character in Anime, or in any story that I've read before. His character is well develop through the series.
