Adult Swim: AS Originals, syndicated repeats, hardcore uneditted anime
Hate to break it to ya, but some of the anime is a bit edited and hardly hard core. Ever watch both types of InuYasha. They messed up some of the dialog and a few of the attacks.

In all fairness though, I haven't really been watching Adult swim for a while because I try to get as much sleep as possible when I get my daughter into her crib.

Cartoon Network needs to put some new anime on. I'm getting tired of Watching Yu Yu Hakoshu, Inuyasha and Cowboy Bebop All the time. I can go buy the dvd for that. Maybe if They put chobits on there I would watch it. But I'm sure the fcc would go crazy. :(

They can't get Chobits because another company already has the rights to Chobits along with a few other good anime. Maybe Turner Broadcasting could try and get the rights to the Live action Sailor Moon. That would be rather interesting...I just hope it doesn't turn into what Saban had planned so many years ago.

Well, most of the recent anime acquisitions have been uncut. AS animes in chronological order of airing and what edits they've had:

Cowboy Bebop: Some cursing muted, blood removed in some scenes, WTC edits
Yuyu Hakusho: Pretty much uncut, except for some "finger" edits
Pilot Candidate: Midnight Run standard editting
Gundam 0083: Minimalized Toonami standard editting
Outlaw Star: Toonami standard editting
Tenchi Muyo: Toonami standard editting
Mobile Suit Gundam: Toonami standard editting
Inu-Yasha: Season 1 minimal violence edits, Season 2 onward uncut
Char's Counterattack: Uncut
Reign: Minimal blood removed (correct me if I'm wrong, don't remember this one much)
Trigun: Some cursing muted, violence and blood edits in some scenes
Lupin III: Uncut
FLCL: Some cursing muted, nudity editted
Blue Gender: Minimalized Toonami stand editting
The Big O: Uncut
Witch Hunter Robin: Uncut
The Animatrix: Some violence and nudity editted in Second Reniassance, everything else uncut
Wolf's Rain: Some violence editted in the OAV, everything else uncut
Case Closed: Very few scenes editted
Read or Die: Uncut
Full Metal Alchemist: Uncut
Ghost in the Shell: Uncut, except for the video reflection in episode 5
Super Milk-Chan: Some cursing muted

As you can see, edits have been less and less as Adult Swim has progressed. At this point, only excessive blood, nudity, and a few strong swears aren't allowed, while everything is else is fair game. As for how hardcore the shows are, pretty much anything that aired on the original ASA except for Bebop was pretty much just for filler. Inu-Yasha was a fluke, FUNi didn't know what they where doing with Blue Gender, and Case Closed was too controversial for regular CN. Everything else AS has aired I would consider to be fairly hardcore.

Sure you can get dvds for these animes, but not everyone can do that. Cowboy Bebop was AS's first anime so I can't picture them not airing it, no matter how stale it gets. Sure they'll take a break from Cowboy Bebop for a while, but eventually they'll show it again.

Yu Yu Hakusho hasn't ended yet and they aren't showing reruns either. Every week is a new episode for those of us who can't afford to get dvds.

Inuyasha hasn't ended either, but I'm getting tired of seeing it myself. I'm itching for those new episodes to come, but I'm not gonna go buy some dvds, I can wait.

****************
I think Cartoon Network has done a good job with their anime. When one ends or they run out of episodes, something new premieres. CN has had a good variety and FMA and GITSAC really add to their flavor. Curious what great anime they'll bring in the future.

I don't know what how anyone else feels about CN, but I feel CN has really helped Anime come into America and helped make it as popular as it is.

Certainly their past work with SM, DBZ, Gundam Wing, Tenchi, Outlaw Star, and Cowboy Bebop certainly helped anime get popular but they've had trouble keeping stuff up lately. Inu-Yasha is popular but it seems to be mostly from preexisting otaku and hasn't done much to get new people watching anime. Outside of AS they no longer show any anime on weekdays that isn't Transformers or Yu-Gi-Oh. They hardly advertise for any of Toonami's animes outside of DBGT. YYH is somewhat noticed due to its AS run, but Kenshin needs help and SEED didn't get any. AS seems to push their anime portion aside for the most part aside from Inu-Yasha (most of the "attention" it gets is making fun of its most rabid fans) and Ghost in the Shell and Full Metal Alchemist. The latter two shows are going to be the big hopes for anime on CN. If Champloo and an anime comedy better than Milk-Chan come anime will be prominent on AS but Toonami still gets zilch. Perhaps if CN gave DBGT and YYH (and maybe Kenshin or SEED) a weeknight run and if they got a show like Bleach or Naruto and advertised it like hell then Toonami's anime would be in good shape and then if Miguzi wisened up and got a kids' anime that isn't completely butchered then anime would be in great shape on CN in general.

Some thoughts on episode 13... Firstly, Orihime's sudden awesomeness stunned me.
She became slightly, uh, less awesome when it turned out that her cool wind-whipping power was being created by a bunch of mildly psychotic fairies, but I'm just happy that she has a talent in the first place. I had been so convinced that she would end up being the token useless female character. Her relationship with Tatsuki is really sweet and touching (and even more homoerotic than before, haha), and I can't help but feel fond of the red-haired girl. Is Chizuru her name?
Secondly, is it weird that I think
Urahara looks very villainous? Though I do like him and his ever-present air of mystery, to me everything about him just screams "secret bad guy."
Maybe I'm merely getting paranoid or something.

I was surprised by the borderline camaraderie between Ishida and Ichigo at the very end of the episode. I had expected them to immediately rip each other's throats out (or try, at least). I guess they do have their priorities straight, after all. And it's great to know that Ishida will receive some decent character development.

I agree with you on a lot of what you say. CN's lost it's thunder in some ways and gained it in others. I think they decided to allocate their anime resources differently.

They don't really commercialize their anime outside of their anime blocks and the ratio of anime throughout the day has really gone down. I see maybe 1 or 2 FMA and GITSAC commercials, 2 DBGTs, and dozens of Inuyasha commercials a week, so yeah anime's really not getting that much attention. They totally screwed up on SEED, I never saw a commercial for it or had any idea it was moved. For those of us who were lucky enough to be hoping .hack was on we didn't miss an episode. So SEED's a good example of bad commercialization methods which was a lack of it.

I really don't get why they came up with miguzi, what killed Toonami as a daily thing was the fact it became the Dragon Ball show. I'm a fan of DB/Z/GT, but hell, people are of course gonna get tired of seeing that everyday.

CN was at it's best Ratio wise when it had the Sailormoon hour before Toonami, then there was toonami, then some CN toons, and finally the Midnight run. Saturday had more Toonami and sunday had Adult swim with Cowboy bebop.
Then things slowly evolved into what it is now. Toonami's replaced with Miguzi which is a show of weak anime, anime inspired cartoons, and some reincarnated Ninja Turtles. With AS nightly dealing out reruns or new animes. Then on Saturday there's a strong block of anime and a little bit of anime on sunday.

I really don't see how FMA and GITSAC are big hopes for anime. Granted FMA is an incredible anime that everyone should give a chance, but as far as hopes for anime on CN, I don't think so. Whenever an anime ends or they run out of episodes they bring out 1 or 2 new shows or new episodes. It's been this way for years and since it works they'll probably continue this process.

Sadly CN's lost it's faith in Toonami it seems, they totally pay attention to anime on AS now and give the leftover scraps to Toonami or Miguzi. I think of anime in CN on a tier system, kinda. Anything they think is mature usually an AS anime, and they put the other good animes that don't have to be on AS because it's not as graphic go on toonami, while Miguzi gets the crap of the crop. With this tier I don't really think Bleach would be a Toonami anime and I can't say anything about Naruto since I've never seen it. Toonami's gonna need something really good that isn't AS material if they wanna do something like take back it's daily slot or strengthen it's block.

wow this is an incoherent mess of thoughts, good luck deciphering it. :D

Note: I merged your thread with this sticky; nearly all topics related to anime on television rightfully belong here.

I think you've got a couple of things confused. First of all, the word "manga" just means Japanese comics--which obviously can't be shown on television. So rather than using "manga" and "anime" interchangeably, type "manga" when you're referring to printed material and "anime" when you're referring to something that's actually animated (as you seem to be doing here).

It appears as though you've provided enough information for fellow UKers to help you out, but I'm sure people would feel more inclined to respond if your post was a little more organized. Next time, try breaking it up into smaller paragraphs, especially if you're going to continue using such a large font. Some additional punctuation and capitalization wouldn't hurt, either.

Thanks in advance for taking this into consideration. ^_^
Hey can the residents in canada get Cartoon network?
Probably not.

I believe that YTV shows many of the same anime as CN. I don't actually live in Canada, so take my words with a grain of salt, but if you're looking for Inuyasha, Witch Hunter Robin or Gundam SEED (can't think of anything else they've aired lately), YTV is the way to go.

After them airing the "Jungle Cruise" episode of Stand Alone Complex, I'm now convinced they'll try to slip in any TV-MA level violence into a TV-14 show as long as the show is neither consistantly TV-MA nor Evangelion (for some reason).

For whatever it's worth, they did have that special warning before the episode. I must say, I'm almost excessively impressed with AS for airing "Jungle Cruise" relatively unmolested. That was pretty daring.

Evangelion was a couple of years ago, anyway; back then I'm pretty sure standards were stricter for every series. And didn't its brief run take place on Toonami? Eh, maybe I'm not remembering this correctly.

EDIT: Apparently Paranoia Agent and Samurai Champloo are both coming to CN this summer. Let the celebrations begin!
In addition to the two new shows, Adult Swim anime programming director Kim Manning has disclosed titles that they aren't planning on acquiring and mentioned some movies they plan to air.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Adult Swim anime programming director Kim Manning disclosed some of Adult Swim's anime plans for 2005 during a message board Q&A session on January 20.

Cartoon Network has acquired the rights to broadcast the remaining episodes of Inu Yasha (episodes 105-167) but no time-line for their broadcast was given.

Manning explained that Adult Swim has no plans to seek the USA TV rights to Naruto or the Fullmetal Alchemist movie. Also, she confirmed that, due to inadequate ratings, they won?t be acquiring any more episodes of Case Closed but will keep rerunning the 50 they have already shown. She said there are no plans for Adult Swim to produce a 3rd season of Big O, and that they have allowed the rights to Outlaw Star to expire. She also said they still plan to air the Metropolis anime movie, the first 2 Inu Yasha movies and the Cowboy Bebop movie this year. The Bebop movie is planned for this coming fall but she didn?t say when the other movies would run.

Thanks to Herb for this news.

Clarification: Please note that Manning stated that there are no plans yet to acquire TV rights for Naruto, the Full Metal Alchemist movie or Robotech. Regarding Naruto she added, "I think Naruto is an amazing series."
No plans "yet" for the Naruto series? are they trying to gain USA TV rights to Naruto? I say go for it, if it ain't 4 kids dubbing the anime Im up for it. If they show it on Toonami Im sure it'll be butchered, but in Adultswim? hey hey...

If 4Kids Entertainment does end up getting the rights to Naruto, I'm sure it would end up on the Toonami block, or even Miguzi if they edit it enough.

The 'Guz usually ends up with 4Kids shows and an exclusive (see: Totally Spies), while Toonami tends to get FUNimation and another exclusive (see: Megas XLR). Both got Teen Titans as well, but that's shown pretty often on CN period, as well as on KidsWB every Saturday.

Adult Swim tends to go for anime dubbed by ADV, Sunrise, Gainax and Viz, so it would more than likely show up there if one of them gets hold of it. They'd be crazy not to, seeing as Naruto already has a large fanbase here in the States and it hasn't even come over here yet (officially).

Inu-Yasha being kept and Detective Conan being discontinued was pretty much expected for obvious reasons (I know there are some Conan fans out there, but in all honesty, it's an "eh" series), but I'm glad that they're showing Metropolis and Cowboy Bebop: Knockin' on Heaven's Door (or The Cowboy Bebop movie, whatever you want to call it). Those should definately boost ratings whenever they decided to show them, but I hate to think how the CB movie might be edited for showing on AS (though I've only seen the Japanese version, so bleh.).

Seeing as how Full Metal Alchemist is most definately on the rise in popularity here in the States, I don't doubt that they'll eventually get the rights to the movie as well. Like I said with Naruto before, they'd be crazy not to.

But yeah, all in all, I'm pretty happy to hear this. ^^

On a somewhat unrelated note, it seems that Initial D will be coming to "American TV" in May 2005--which could mean TechTV, but is more likely a reference to The Anime Network or someplace equally obscure. The channel in question will inevitably end up airing the horrible "tricked-out" dub that made me lose all faith in Tokyopop, so I have no real interest in seeing it.

As for the Adult Swim news, I'm confident that AS will pick up the FMA movie once it's actually licensed and so forth. Naruto could go to either Toonami or AS--I have no idea how they judge that anymore--but if 4Kids licenses it (heaven forbid), it'll definitely end up on Fox. -_-

I really hope 4 Kids doesn't get Naruto. There would be mutiny. I wouldn't put it past them, though. They took Yu-Gi-Oh!, Shaman King, and One Piece even though they would be considered teenage series in the U.S. It's horrible. All the dialogue and names get changed. Sakura would be Sarah! O___o *musn't think of that*

I think I heard a rumor that AS was picking up Samurai Shamploo, but I haven't actually read any news sites recently to confirm this. ^^;; And if I remember correctly, they pushed back showing the first InuYasha movie until spring (I think they were supposed to show it in November, but there were legal issues).

Sorry if I was a bit repetitive. I'll see if I can scope out more news. ^_^
