Cartoon Network Line-Ups...and anime on television announcements

I don't know what to think of Bo-7, it's gonna be pretty interesting to say the least.

I'm curious about IGPX, looks like it'll be good, but I'm wondering if the characters from the mini series will be on IGPX at some point and what will they be like on top of that if they are there.

I gotta agree with Dagger about Bleach, I'd want that anime to be edited as little as possible and AS is the place to put it for that. There are just some things about it I feel that Toonami would change and mess up. I guess it's because of AS's current trend of edits that I feel this way.

The hard thing about Bleach and Destiny is that both shows are stuff that AS wouldn't go near for obvious reasons but would recquire massive editting on Toonami. I guess since AS is trying to do TV-MA (we'll see if they've been able to get away with it come "Double Lips") Toonami might be able to jump up to TV-PG (since they've faked TV-PG with some TV-Y7 shows like Justice League, they might even be able to fake a TV-14 in a TV-PG) and Bleach could get away relatively clean. Ultimately by the end of 2006 this is the Saturday night schedule I would like for Cartoon Network:

(Toonami)
7.0: SGT Frog
7.5: Zatch Bell/Eureka 7/Bobobo-bo Bo-bobo (whichever one is airing new episodes by then)
8.0: The Fantastic Four/Legion of Superheroes (whichever one is ready by then)
8.5: Star Wars: The Animated Series
9.0: One Piece (redubbed by FUNimation, less edits)
9.5: Something completely experimental like Eyeshield 21 or Fruits Basket
10.0: Naruto
10.5: Bleach
(Adult Swim)
11.0: Cowboy Bebop: REMIX!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!(awesomest thing ever)
11.5: BECK
12.0: Monster
12.5: Chromartie High
1.0: Inu-Yasha (last full run)
1.5: Samurai Champloo

That would be awesome.

Big O III? What on earth would that consist of? :animestun

I would love to see Gankutsuou (The Count of Monte Cristo) on Adult Swim. I think it could do really well; the show's flashiness and unique visuals are backed up by a great plot. It has a lot of name recognition going for it, from the classic novel to GONZO to Mahiro Maeda to Anna Sui.

On a different note, I'm wondering where/when Hikaru no Go will show up. Apparently Viz has its TV dates listed as "TBA," so presumably that means they have made some kind of deal. And I can only assume the series is going to air on CN, since I can't imagine any other channels (barring The Anime Network) taking a gamble on Go.

I really don't like Big O. I only like the theme song cuz it's catchy. They should take it off and replace it with a better show, like YYH or something else. Super Milk-Chan is also getting old. it was amusing while it lasted, but now it just seems stupid. :animesigh :flaming:

Well, the last episode of Big O II didn't make any bit of sense whatsoever (if you could explain it to me, it would be appreciated) so a Big O III could be a replacement ending or at least make earlier events more comprehensible. Although The Big O III could be replaced by something else. I'm thinking Fafter since I'm in the mood for some quality mecha and Raxephon and Evangelion are completely out of range for AS (though EVA might air if the linear Anime Network expands to another provider, which could very well be later this year, but if it did air it would be finished before my schedule could happen). My idea for the change will come to me when it comes.

EDIT: Oh yeah! I know what should go in Big O III's place: Cowboy Bebop Remix! How could I have been so stupid to ignore it?

Sorry, but Hikaru No Go is a no-go for Cartoon Network. Lack of marketability already has that working against it, but if the show is anything like the manga, have you ever considered that it's... boring? It'd put most people to sleep, and those who could stay up through it would probably find it tedious and annoying. Remember, Flame of Recca was also supposed to come to TV, supposedly on CN, and whatever happened to that show anyway?

It'd been ages since I watched Big O II, so I can't come up with a completely coherent explanation off the top of my head, but...
you can think of the ending as being analogous to the ending of Eva, with Angel playing the role of Shinji. Roger is the one who convinces her to accept herself--so instead of erasing the world, she presses the reset button again. Because she's gotten over her jealousy and insecurity, she makes the new world's Dorothy human rather than an android. Obviously there's a little more to it than that, but I'm afraid I might mix up some of the details if I try going into more depth.
As for Hikaru no Go, the strength of the story, characters & pacing are such that you don't need to know a thing about Go to enjoy it. The fact that it isn't an action title like most of its peers does work against it, but it dramatizes the game well enough that I can definitely see it appealing to younger kids (at the very least). It'd be an odd fit for Toonami, but I can't for the life of me think of any other stations that would go for it, and as far as I know Viz has never dealt with TAN. I'm sure CN could find a slot for it somewhere. Although I'm going to buy the DVDs anyway, so it won't affect me that much in the end.

I would love to see Fafner on AS. It'd be interesting to observe how people's reactions to the show would change as it went along--it goes through some growing pains, and the difference between the beginning episodes and the later episodes (mainly in terms of the quality of the writing) is nothing short of astounding. Of course, the danger there is that a lot of casual viewers might give up on it after the first few episodes. :animeswea

EDIT: Come to think of it, Gungrave would be so perfect for Adult Swim. If only it hadn't gone to G4...
So, like, hey...yeah.

We changed stuff. Here's the new Saturday lineup, effective on June 25.

11 p.m. Futurama
11:30 p.m. Samurai Champloo
Midnight InuYasha
12:30 a.m. S-CRY-ed
1 a.m. Paranoia Agent
1:30 a.m. FLCL
5 a.m. Lupin
5:30 a.m. Case Closed

Please enjoy this virtual lozenge.

*lozenge*
Soo, yeah. They took out Trigun again!! :animecry: And now the "all action saturday" is gone too. Oh well. At least we have new episodes of Samurai Champloo, InuYasha, s-CRY-ed, and Paranoia Agent.

Starting Wednesday the 22nd of June at 12:30AM InuYasha starts from the very beginning with The Girl who over came time and the Boy who was just overcome.

How do I know this? I'm psychic.... Or I looked ahead on the TV guide provided by Time Waner Digital cable, but being psychic sounds so much cooler.

Trigun has been rerun to hell and back. It's not much of a loss at this point. And since when is Paranoia Agent an action show? Or FLCL? Or Case Closed? Or Lupin? Futurama actually probably has about as much action as all of those shows and despite being way overreran unlike other AS comedies it actually has a continuing plot and character development so it fits to some extent with the animes.

The one problem I have with the new schedule is Paranoia Agent at 1 AM. Honestly, Inu-Yasha will pull in ratings at any time no matter how awfully late... And do we even need Scryed?

I don't understand how the colors are killing you. Gankutsuou: The Count of Monte Cristo is seriously a work of art and a brilliant masterpiece. While I agree with you, and I do like Gankutsuou's innovative art style, I can see why its visuals would bother some people. The way the patterns are layered can be a little confusing and/or distracting at times, although I imagine it will look a bit more clear on DVD.

Another schedule change?! and I decided to have a tape recording of it this time for future viewing, doh!

I'm happy with having Champloo move up half an hour, the sooner Champloo comes on the better. Though Scryed feels like a mess of ideas not perfectly made right, it feels like such a poo poo party of anime ideas good and not so good. It has it's good points, unfortunately I can't think of any that would prove that statement.

I'd love to see the Count on AS,but I gotta concur about the color scheme.

Side note on One Piece:
After seeing some unchanged episodes a friend had of the first episodes, I see why Eva's so angry about the Edits. They really didn't need to make half of the edits they made on it, especially the toy guns. I'm surprised they didn't edit in wooden swords, heh.

Tri Gun is staying on Sunday Morning Adult Swim. It's on after FLCL at 1:30AM/12:30AM.

And like I said before, InuYasha is being ressurectd from the begining starting at 12:30AM Wednesday morning or 11:30 PM Tuesday night depending on where you live. I think I'll skip those first episodes since I have them on DVD.

The thing I hate the most on [adult swim] is how often they change their schedule. The day they took Fullmetal Alchemist off of Saturday was the last straw! I mean sure, Trigun, Paranoia Agent, Samurai Champloo, Inu-Yasha,
and FLCL are on, but NO NEW FULLMETAL ALCHEMIST!? I will never stop hating them until FMA is brought to Saturday. This their despicable(but alright) schedule:

10:30 P.M.-Samurai Champloo
11:00 P.M.-Paranoia Agent
11:30 P.M.-s-CRY-ed
12:00 A.M.-FLCL
12:30 A.M.-Trigun
1:00 A.M.-4:00 A.M.-repeat
4:00 A.M.- Lupin III
4:30 A.M.- Case Closed (buncha....) :animeangr

Relax. The reason why we don't have new episodes of FullMetal Alchemist is because FUNimation needs to finish dubbing the rest of the episodes so AdultSwim can show them. We don't have an official date yet of when it should be back, but the most logical time would be sometime in the fall of this year. Until then, we have new episodes of four wonderful animes plus some anime movies we can watch. And dont forget, you can watch the reruns of FulMetal Alchemist Mondays-Wednesdays.

Just be patient! :animesmil

That sucks no FMA for a while, but what sucks more is they are Running Trigun they need to drop that for some good Witch Hunter Robin.

Also Gankusuou is it on DVD already the eps I saw were the first 2 and they were a fansub saw them in the same place I saw the Mahou Sensei Negima first 2 eps both were fansubs at the anime club I visit on Saturday.

I want new episodes of Case Closed man get rid of Scryed for new Detective Conan eps. Move Scryed to the Toonami line-up man drop DBZ for it cause I don't find Scryed intresting at all thats why I'm glad Paranoia Agent comes on before it cause after that goes off I'm changing the channel.

Why would they add Futurama to the Saturday Line-up Chibi it makes no sense seems kind of redundant to do see we already see it on the weekdays and there are no new episodes to contribute to the Saturday line-up we could be watching something else better. no one wants to watch Futurama and FLCL over and over again I love both of them, but hey its pretty boring watching the same series and eps over and over again.
Yes. :animesmil
I honestly don't get what you see in that show. Awfully cliched plot and characters, uninspired action scenes, average animation. It's honestly no better than Inu-Yasha's worst points, except that Scryed has at least some sense of pacing. In fact, the current episodes of Inu-Yasha I find more involving than Scryed. Not that I feel that happy watching even a good episode of Inu-Yasha since the show has no ending. Adult Swim, just move Inu-Yasha premieres to weeknights and send Scryed to the Friday late night/Saturday early morning Bandai deathbed block and then put Fullmetal Alchemist reruns as the ratings powerhouse to boost premieres instead of Futurama and I think we can all be happy with AS Saturdays.

Also, something that might be interesting to Naruto fans is this interview concerning the dub:

http://narutofan.com/index.php/content-americanized%20naruto,interview%20with%20naruto%20staff

Some things of note in the interview:

--All of the characters have been cast, although no announcements were made (other than the previously made announcements for Blum as Kakashi, Vic as someone, and an unknown as Naruto).
--The first season of 52 episodes has been about halfway scripted, and recording starts in late June/early July.
--It seems that the people who are producing the dub are fans of the show, which combined with TV-PG DBZ and a pretty bloody Naruto promo on the CN Summer Special increases the chances of it airing with little-to-no edits.
--The Shonen Jump translations for the attacks will be used (which in all honesty aren't all that terrible).
--Most of the original music will be used, though they say that they need to produce some new music for it. This could mean covering up silent scenes ala Pokemon (which would be a negative), but since most of ShoPro's productions that completely change the music still have some silence, it could just mean that they couldn't get the rights to some of the songs and thus they will be dubbing them (which is pretty positive).

Everyone needs a little trashy fun sometimes. s-CRY-ed makes for great mindless entertainment--it's all about the fighting, but it's done in such a way so as to not be completely boring. Plus the series has a great sense of fun. I'm rather surprised that you don't like its animation, given that it's more or less on par with that of Gundam SEED (and I'm not saying that because of the character designs).

As for Fullmetal being a ratings powerhouse... it hasn't done poorly or anything, but do you think it would really have the same ripple effect as something like Futurama? It seems to me that an all-anime night still isn't feasible, ratings-wise.

As far as I'm concerned, the SJ attack translations range from weak to completely appalling. But I'll let the Naruto fans hash that one over.

Gundam SEED's animation isn't that good, actually. I guess it was just easy for me to praise it because most of the rest of the show is interesting and I'm a sucker for the awesome mecha designs in the Gundam series (other than G and Turn A, which despite Turn A being a good series the designs were attrocious). And Scryed's animation I actually think is actually pretty good. I'll admit I was being rough on that part. The show just doesn't appeal to me as a whole. Meh, maybe I'm just being spoiled by the much more awesome brand of mindless fun that is Samurai Champloo.

Fullmetal often would beat Futurama's Saturday showing in the ratings and it gets more advertising than any other reruns (not counting FG/AD which are new to AS but reruns in the general scheme of TV). It could probably hold on it's own pretty well. Think about it. Assuming that most Futurama fans (who aren't sick of the constant reruns) only watch anime casually, they probably have tuned in for Futurama on Saturdays often and then decided to keep the TV on after it. Then they caught a bit of Fullmetal Alchemist and thought "Hmm, this show's pretty good, I'll try to tune into it." Then after 6 months of watching FMA after Futurama they'd see that their favorite show wasn't on for some reason. Then they'd realize FMA was on and think "Hey, I like this show. It's not Futurama, but I'd watch." Whereas if they saw it replaced with Inu-Yasha, a show they probably had much less obligation to follow they'd think "Aw, why'd they have to replace Futurama? I'm not tuning in next week!"

Yes, the Naruto attack translations are bad but it seems that a lot of hardcore fans of the series think that Viz "ruined" the manga with them, which seems quite an overstatement. I'd say that the attack translations on Naruto have the same effect as the disco guns on SEED: I hate them, but as long as the integrity of the rest of the show is kept I'll manage. As long as the actors are decent, the original background music is kept, the edits are minimal, and the plot and character development is completely preserved, that's all I would need.

I have to confess that I never did understand the reasoning behind the disco guns. What are they trying to teach kids--that it's better to kill people with lasers than with bullets? :animeswea

I got up early to watch Eureka 7 this morning (what kind of timeslot is 7:30 a.m.!?), and I was reminded of how ridiculously awesome the series is. When is it coming to Toonami? I feel like I should know the answer already, but ah well. I apologize if someone posted this a few pages back; I've been very forgetful lately.

The disco guns are even more pointless given that Justice League Unlimited shows realistic guns (heck, they show nearly everything that most of Toonami's animes are editted for) at an earlier timeslot.

Eureka 7 actually hasn't been officially announced for Toonami, but basically Bandai+Bones/Sunrise+"Next Big Thing"=Cartoon Network. Bandai can basically pitch anything to CN and they'll buy, despite the fact they've had a lot of flops in the past. And given that Eureka 7 is neither a show you have to wait 5-10 episodes before it starts getting interesting (i.e. SEED) nor crap (i.e. DICE), I doubt it will flop.
