Well, I think that this should pose as an interesting topic for discussion. Why are you an Otaku? What introduced you to this kind of anime? What brought you to theOtaku.com? And especally for those ranked as extreme otaku to No Life with x ammount thousands of posts, what inspired your devotion?

Well, I'm not an Otaku. I don't just mean my member rank; I don't consider myself an Otaku.

Anyway, I got into anime all on my own (well, I got a little help from a local PBS affiliate). A couple of anime were being shown on television and (after figuring out what anime was) I started watching it on a local public TV station that shows subtitled anime every sunday night (Urusei Yatsura!). When I finally got internet access in 1998, that's about when I started to read about a lot of different anime.

I used to frequent these other anime-themed Forums (they closed a few months back) last year that had a sub-forum on it where you could plug yours and other people's websites. Someone there plugged Otaku Boards. I checked you guys out and almost signed up, but I didn't. I was already signed up with two other Forum groups and I didn't feel like signing up with Otaku Boards. So I left.

I know RicoTranzrig IRL. One day, I saw him logging on to Otaku Boards. I was like "hey, I almost signed up with them!" A couple of months passed, I got bored one day, and decided to sign up with Otaku Boards.

And now you know the rest of my back-story.
Good day. ;)

I'm not an Otaku... unless you mean like... member of OB... in which case...

I never went to TheOtaku first... I was introduced fully to the boards and their dubby-ness when it was full of dubbies... ahh how times have changed... My intention was to come here and edicate those of duby-ness to what real anime and true anime is and how it probably has changed through the dubbing process. And to show the wonders of Japanese music...

However with 90% of those missions completed, I have just grown to like the place. Friends and whatnot. For some reason people latched on to the "respect TN" thing and before you knew it I was a mod and then an SM... So I stayed and never joined another anime board, although I've been to J-Music boards briefly... I just don't have time for anything else... as you can probably tell, modding a 2000+ member board is tough work, just ask James lol. He's got tons.

Anyway, yeah... I'm here because it's my volunteering job to be here... and because I have too many goof friends and other people I can't just leave to fend without me :p

Otaku as in... Anime Addict?
Well, I guess I never really was really into anime, even though I really love alot of Anime. I can't call myself an otaku at all, because I don't even know half as much as the other members here do.
What introduced you to this kind of anime?
Ever since I was little, the only cartoons I saw in the mornings were anime, since I was born in Korea. I saw alot of Sailor moon, Changoo, Dragonball, Inyu Yasha...etc, in Korean before I came to the U.S.. Then my cousin introduced me to more anime, and explained alot to me about the anime I became interested in. Soooo basically, my cousins helped me get into anime more, even though I started to lose interest when I was ten, and I started liking only pokemon and dragonball. I'm starting to get into anime again, because my cousins keep bugging me with anime videos, hints, etc...

This is kinda embarrissing, but at first I came here for Pokemon Game Cheats... I was a real fan of Pokemon then, so my friend told me about a site called 'pokecheats.com', and I found myself at 'theotaku.com', and I started to browse around. That was about... two-three years ago.

I'm not an otaku and I never plan to be an otaku. I've been watching random anime since I was about six, and I know a decent amount about it... But there are many things I prefer to it.

In the end, I'm mostly here because it's something to do on the otherwise boring interweb. I've grown to like most of the people here as well, so it makes it worth sticking around.

I'm not an Otaku as much as I used to be.

Anyways, I made my first appearance a few years back when I was searching for a site--any site--that had good Digimon information (this was about the time S2 has started, more or less). I was sorely disappointed with the sites I found, and the first site I "applied" to, the girl was too lazy to update anything, so in a huff, I ran off to find another one, a sort of "in your FACE, lady!" kick. :bluesweat

So first art, then I noticed theOtaku.com needed desperate help in their Digimon area, and I /finally/ convinced Adam to let me update it (heh, one of the first to actually work on his site, I believe). I decided to poke my nose into the OBs, so I could keep my ear on any new Digimon info to keep our site up to date.

As far as I can remember, I've been here since V2 (some veterans claim V1, but I don't know). I've had my share of being a mod (ModRod, :modrod: anyone?) and a fan, and now I'm just the eccentric Christian girl that draws really well. ^_^

Ah yes the sacred modrod, heheh.

I've been here since v2, always hanging about with my originally bad grammar and spelling, which I think I've improved by now, lol.

I only really stay because of the people here.. a nice community who can always debate well and have fun at the same time.

Heh...I'm not an otaku. Heck, I barely visit the anime forums. Sure, I've seen some anime, and I've liked most of what I've seen, but I can't really think of anything I'd want to discuss about it.

The reason I came here, back around the start of v3, was because of the gaming and series forums. The reason I stayed is because I made some friends that I enjoy talking to, and also because this site has the best rules I've ever seen on a message board.

As for how I found OB, it was actually through theOtaku.com...kind of... Anyway, I was searching for a good Zelda site one night, looking for some official art from one of the games, I think, and one of the results on the list was, for some reason, a page called the "Pika Dance." (I have no idea why a Pokémon page came up in a search for Zelda pages). I was curios, so I clicked the link, and was then faced with lots of dancing Pikachu gifs, with the Pokémon theme playing softly in the background. I stared for a minute, and then took a look at the site's home page: www.theotaku.com. I looked over the site, and though I wasn't that interested, I bookmarked it anyway, because I thought the Pika Dance was funny.

Then, after a few weeks, the board that I had been going to closed down for awhile, and I decided to look for another one. I couldn't find any that I liked, and then I remembered theOtaku.com, and wondered if it had a message board. I looked down the list of links on the home page, and then clicked the "Forums" link. I was taken to the OtakuBoards homepage, and after a couple days of looking around, I signed up, and have been here, lurking in the gaming and series forums, ever since.

Well, I don't think I'm an Otaku, exactly, because I haven't seen enough Anime to be classified as one, heh. But, uh, What can I say? I like the drawing styles, and the small amount of Anime I have seen.. So, yeah.

Basically the reasons I'm still here are the friends that I've made, and the Adventure forum. Roleplaying keeps me sane.. Not to mention I have an obligation to be here, what with being a Super-Mod and everything... oO;

Liam "forced" me to join... hehehe...
Though it has grown on me, in the back of my mind I always knew (from what I had heard) there were many other animes than the crappy ones we get from time to time in Australia and I've become addicted to a few of them.
So I'm here for the rpg's (which I don?t do any more) and arguing with people. (Which I've toned down out of the risk of Liam(C2) chopping me up and feeding me to people he doesn't know...)
I guess just to hear about new animes and stuff and to be around great people.
I've never really spent much time at theotaku but I've been in #theotaku for two days straight now, god there is some wacky people there. (YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE!!!)

Liam you really need to get out of there?

:) First question: Why am I an otaku?

Are you asking in the literal sense if so I just didn't put down that stupid anime when I should have and now look at me V_V.

What introduce me to anime that ones rather simple?

I've been watching anime since I was 3 years old, I lived in a time where anime dubs were running rapid with Transformers and Robotech/Macross. Eventually I caught the original Dragon Ball during its first run thanks to underground fan subs by a company now known as ADV Films.

What Brought you to Otaku?

My first exposure to the site was back in High School when various friends of mine use to frequent theotaku.com for anime news and for that ssj5 vegeta pic tico made. Back then I wasn't interested in the site since the info was rather lousy and my site was doing fairly well.

Eventually after a couple of months I saw that theOtaku.com was "taking in links" I sent an email to Adam asking to be put on the links list. He declined but asked me if I was interested in running the anime movie section at theOtaku.com. I agreed, and eventually joined OB the day the anime movie section launched.

Factoring in that the anime movie section launched on Feb 8th of last year I'm almost hitting my one year anniversary.

:drunk: Ok, I should shut up now.

Hmm. . I don't think I would be allowed to consider myself an Otaku, though I originally did come here for anime information. I was searching the net so I could find some info on Dragon Ball Z -- namely (for those who care) the names of a move or two, the name of a character or two, and even some power levels and info on an episode or two. . . ya. . pretty much everything I could think to get, though, mainly for an arguement -- ^_^ fun stuff, right?

Anyways, I found most of the information on TheOtaku.com, however there were a few questions I still had. So. . I went to register in the Dragon Ball forum, and promptly had my question answered. Well, I was curious about the site -- the layout was really good, the people seemed very interesting, and the posts were really well written.

-- I just want to pause for a minute. When I first started viewing the general topics, I saw a lot of Transtic Nerve's posts, and I really thought he was the boss of the site ^_^ (sorry. . lol). Perhaps a bit of his charisma and his post quality is what sealed the deal with me coming back? (well, that and me laughing whenever he yelled at someone's senseless posts) =) Just wanted to say that, don't think I have ever mentioned it before O.o ya. --

Well, I came back many times, and started branching out posting in many of the other forums, but the one that really struck me was Nintendo's forum. There were a ton of good topics, and it was great talking to people who were as thrilled about the GAMECUBE's upcoming release as I was. That became my home for a while, and I just couldn't stay out of it. My time at work kept me away most of the day, so I had a bunch of topics waiting for me to respond to when I get back late that night.

I became a moderator of the Nintendo forum for a short while, but with work just draining more and more of my time away, I was finding myself on the boards less and less, and stepped down (or replaced, I can't remember -- though I am not really saying this to sound upset, I know I couldn't handle it time wise)

I made a few friends on the boards, and that definitely kept me coming back. PMs were just shorter emails, and a nice and quick way to chat with some people. I have talked to a lot of board members online (AIM or Yahoo Messenger) and found the people that post here to be some of the best I have ever met in my life.

I don't post as much as I used to, but I always visit everyday to see how life is going with everyone ^_^ Though I don't post as much as many do, I try to put in as much info as I can possibly squeeze into my posts, sort of quality over quantity ^_^ (hmm. . again, not bashing on anyone here, just saying. . that's me, your NorykoAngelcry)

If anyone ever needs to talk to anyone, drop me a line, PM, email, or AIM. . I am more then happy to chat it up (if I don't have a room full of people yelling at me). *bows deeply* Thanks everyone for enriching my life.

I feel deja vu- I've said most of this stuff so many times before... I found the Otaku.com various times while running searches for digimon for my fanfic, which was on DigimonUnlimited at the time (I never should have put it up- it was rubbish). Anyways, when that shut down, I had to look for a new place to put my fanfics up and I saw the Otaku.com again. It didn't work at first, and for a laugh I went to the boards. Immediately I signed up and the rest is history *polishes ModRod*. I'm pleased to say I've met (not in RL, unfortunately) lots of people here, many of whom I consider friends and talk to lots on MSN and AIM.

What do I do here? Um... I like talking to people who have similar tastes to me. It's very difficult for me to talk about any anime series around here because it's a pretty obscure market down here in the UK. I think I know only one other person who likes anime, and he's only seen stuff I haven't. It's very refreshing to be able to come here and let off steam about an anime character or episode. And I moderate the Yu-Gi-Oh forum, which I'm very proud of.

I would say I'm a semi-Otaku. I'm not absolutely devoted to anime (yet), but it is a major interest for me, and I keep forgetting to watch it as much as possible. Were I not at school, I would be a die-hard Otaku. Very much so. Watching Digimon, Zoids, Eva, Macross Plus, Nadesico, Outlaw Star, Pokemon (I guess), Blue Gender, Mononoke, Lost Universe, and any others I want to see. I have about 22 anime soundtracks, and I'm addicted to them, so I guess I'm definately an anime music Otaku. But I keep forgetting the channels' schedules, so I tend to miss them, and I haven't the money to buy lots of DVDs. Still, there's plenty of time to sort that out...

I joined the boards back in May 2001. While searching for DragonBall Z material for an art project, I stumbled upon the boards. I had visited the main site on several occasions for that very reason, but by some twist of fate, the site was down and I was redirected to the forums.

I gave them no thought and went about working on my project. I just wasn't interested in online forums.

Upon completing the project, my friend and I became bored. We were the practical jokers of the class, and our teacher's tolerance of our "sense of humor" was wearing increasingly thin. Suffice to say, we needed something to keep us out of trouble.

So, I started searching aimlessly around the net wondering if "that site" was back up yet. I wanted to look at the DBZ pictures, darn it! No dice, I was once again redirected to the boards, which would soon upgrade to version 2, according to the message that popped up.

"What the heck," I thought to myself. I figured that I would get a few laughs out of the place. Hehe, I intentionally joined under the silliest name I could possibly fathom, and immediately let the community know that Mr. Satan was the man.

I also spammed a bit, saying that Sonic the Hedgehog was my favorite Digimon because he possessed the sacred dragon whistle. No one responded to that thread. Go figure. To date, that is my only post in that forum, lol.

After a brief time, this place grew on me. It gave me something to do while I was bored, and the discussion was entertaining. My friend also joined too, flamed a lot of people, and caused our entire school to become banned from otakuboards, since they operated on a singular network.

Thankfully, we graduated shortly thereafter, and I found myself still using the site. After version 2.0 went down I went on a brief hiatus. I had just reached Master Member with 500 posts and was forced to start over with a different name, since the character length of the old name was too great for the space provided, so I was a bit discouraged. I was still around, but rarely.

When I came back, it was in an effort to defend the mighty :sniggers: X-box. It seemed like a cool challenge, but it didn't go so well. It did mark my first run-in with Semjaza though, in which I swiftly throttled him. Well, not really, lol.

After that experience, I started to come around a bit more. The "Crazy White Boy" name wasn't so bad, and it was still possible to have fun. After all, the gaming forums had been expanded since my version 2.0 romp.

Fast forward to now. Some things haven't changed. I'm still not an otaku (cataku). Anime isn't my thing. Phew, and I'm still not a message board kinda guy. This is just a unique spot. But, I have met some neat people, had some good times.
