The 'Future' of the boards

Well, I was thinking about this earlier today. Who would run Otakuboards after Adam and James leave? Will they pass it on to one of the moderators or something? Or will it just die? I mean Adam and James won't want to post on a message board in a good 3 or 4 years. Maybe less.... So what is your take on this?

That isn't the question I want to know but I doubt they would leave they have been here this long and they have reasons to do it. Besides someone would take over from James, I don?t know about Adam though?
The question I want to know is who pays for it all, I don't see any ads around and only one or two on theotaku and I know hosting is cheap in America but even just the upkeep of these sites?

Yeah, there are a few free hosts, but they have pop-ups all over the place...

But that is a scary thought... OtakuBoards without James and Adam would be like a wasteland... Think about it... without them two around, who would be able to ban the annoying spamming n00bs, besides TN? Oh man... this place would be scary... and all the N00b Control members will be extremely active... I don't even want to think about it...

James, Adam, when you make out your will, leave OB to someone trustworthy so it doesn't go to the shitter, okay?

I know for a fact that the boards would be handed over... however, theOtaku.com I don't know... I'm sure it would be offered to someone but there's alot of money in this site and theOtaku.com. SOmeone trustworthy and with money would have to take it all over... I don't see that happening anytime soon though. So I wouldn't worry about it.

I agree with Flash there...

Money from what?
I've heard what happened when you had banner ads... *Shudder*

No this is not a free server and it's a registered domain name. (Three of them in fact)
So some one is dishing out some money to run it?

Well I've seen the boards from befor James was here and they weren't really that good, think James and the other mod?s strictness has forced every ones post qualities up and that makes for good reading and content...

It wasn't just them being strict, it was also being familiar with the boards and how they work, so they're more confident to post better posts... And that just made no sense...

Anyway, Flash is right, lol. I've also seen the boards without James... they weren't as good as they are now... what were they? Ikonboard? Or was it a UBB or somethin?

Lol, heh. Well, I really have no clue as to where the boards may go. They might go to the trash, or they might stay forever. Really, who knows? Heh, I'd know that if James wanted me to, I'd certainly Admin. the boards.

I think it is kind of silly to think about where the boards will be in 3-4 years, this place changes so constantly that we have no idea what will happen in the future.

I expect OB to grow though. With all of the progress that the Otaku has made, this place will soon become a major force in the online anime community (if it isn't already, hmm).

Adam was smart enough to hire James, and I'm sure that James will leave OB in the proper hands when/if he decides to leave.

We all have to move on sooner or later, why is a newbie worrying about this?

I'm sure that it would be handed down to, we all know who, Sephiroth. But if he can't pay for it, I guess umm... TN then. I'm sure one of those two would. Either that or one of the moderators. Because since they have moderated, and experinced how it works, I'm sure one of them will.

For whoever asked what the boards were on before VBulletin, it was UBB, if my board history is correct. Versions one and two were on UBB, Shinji hacked on, and version three was born on VBulletin. Heh. History lesson from CWB. ^_^;;;;

Well, I think TN anwsered the question about the boards, but as for theotaku.com, um... I'm sure Adam has someone in mind. He surely wouldn't just leave it to rot in a cyberspace wasteland... Would he? O_o

Sara's right, ever since the boards went down for version 6, Sephiroth has been taking a bit of an extended absence. Since the boards came back up, I'd be lying if I said I'd seen more than two of his posts. Perhaps he is just spending some quality time with his wife, didn't he also have a daughter on the way? Parenting an infant is not an easy task.

When James decides to leave the boards, he will probably promote Transtic to run the boards. Perhaps, if Safer came back, it would be him. As far as the software, I think Transtic and Elite could handle that well enough. The boards would probably go to a Super Moderator, before anyone else. If memory serves, didn't James say that he would be leaving, and Version 6 was his going away gift to the boards?

When Adam decides to leave however, if no one can be found to take over the three sites, then most likely, Otaku will be closed, banish the thought. For now though, I think we are in pretty good shape.

Yes, and if memory serves me well enough, she would be... almost 3 or 4 months by now...

Yeah, but we all kept him here. Lol. We held him prisoner until he decided to stay... Haha J/K.... I think... But if you notice, Lady Sayia-jin disappeared around the same time Sephiroth did... but she's got her job in Japan now...

Well whoever took over theOtaku & OB would have to Pay about $27 a month. Now of coarse anybody with a Job could pay that, mabey. I think that someone might come along the road that would take it over the OB that is not here yet, Like James, he was a newbie on the boards but he was responsible and rule abiding so he moved up fast.

For those of you wondering about the financial issue, Adam is the one who pays for the site and all.

James is still here, and prolly will be forever, as far as I can tell. ;) Don't you see--he's really a cyborg brain that IS the OBs, and infiltrates our very lives EVERY DAY! *shadow steals up behind her, smacks her over head with mallet, and drags her lifeless body away*

OK, seriously though, I doubt I'll be here in 3-4 years, so this isn't really a problem for me. I tried to go back to Pojo.com once, but their MBs changed majorly. In all honestly, this is one of the best MBs I've ever been on. We got it good here.

Not to be offensive but I believe that with the right tools I could build version one with out to much trouble...

From what I?ve seen of obv1 James wasn?t even there at all and Adam seemed to post about the same amount as James does these days.

So things change, hopefully not too much though...

What we have now, as long as that error msg doesn't come up when I post this, is one of the best-coded boards I've seen.

[Edited - Added]
For any one that cares the error msg didn't come up. d:p

Enough of this silly talk about the future. Because I am all-knowing and all-seeing, I will consult the gods about the future of otakuboards for those of you clamoring to know. It's an odd quest, but it's obvious that a few of you are desperate to know.

Gods, oh gods! What will happen to the boards in the future?

There you have it, the definitive answer. Stick a fork in this thread, it's settled.
