the actual school part is kinda blah-ish, but even then, some of the classes are pretty awesome. I wouldn't be able to take them if I was homeschooled. the social aspect is pretty decent for the most part. if anything, that's the reason why I'd want to go to school. school's fine, as long as there's breaks every now and again.

I love school!

I see the point about learning skills to help one in his or her future life, but I see two other aspects: school can influence what you choose to do, and there is the love of learning for the sake of learning. If there were no school, we'd be peasants and serfs working all our life for some rich lucky person who takes all our work but doesn't work himself. Do you think one would really want to be a scientist if he never took science classes? Do you think he/she knew before going to school that he/she enjoys science? It is helpful to have an exposure to all areas so that one can understand what he/she enjoys.

The love of learning is one of the reasons I enjoy school. I am never the one to gripe that the math we are learning has no real-life usage; I enjoy doing it for the sake of doing it. I enjoy seeing large groups of numbers transform into a small, clean one, nature at its miraculous work, the stupidity and occasional intelligence of people who are now dead, and large thoughts expressed clearly with little effort. (This is, of course, math, science, social studies, and language arts.) I don't think that this enjoyment should be limited to just me; if you take the time to see the natural beauty of how things work, it becomes much more interesting to watch them work.

Another important aspect of completing school well is the knowledge gained. Why can't most American students locate Iraq on the map? This is because they don't see the importance of finding it. If the media claims that there are suicide bombings and border disagreements between Estonia and Latvia, I bet you the majority of Americans will complain about war in the Middle East. It looks more like Middle Eastern Europe to me. Only if we understand our world can we even claim that it has problems.

School as a social institution? If there were no government-run official schools, there would still be the neighborhood...I don't think that should be seen as relatively important.

No, I hate it. I know we have to go, but the good part is that you get to see your friends. That, and on the bus. Now that's fun.

Anyway, umm.. I voted No. Because if the teachers would make school a little more fun, and teach with more inthuzeasum, I would love school. Like that'll ever happen.

Socially, school is great. I get to see most of my friends, talk about stuff, and it helps make life less boring. We have clubs like Anime Club where you can chat with people around your age that like anime, and obviously watch some.

As for the subjects, I deffinitly could do without them. Of course, I don't really like to get something for free usually without doing any work to pay it off, so it may be a good thing. I just struggle with some of the subjects and am not a fan of homework.

Although we may try to convince ourselves that we hate school, it is just a spur-of-the-moment reaction to some work that we don't feel like doing. I'm sure that if we were introduced to a life without school, we would be able to accept it better.

Yes, I enjoy school for the most part. The only class I don't like is P.E., it's not the ciriculum I don't like. It is the fact that I almost have no friends in that class. No, good friends anyway.....

On a slightly brighter note, all my other classes are awesome, Lunch is the best of course. Of course you don't eat at lunch. You flirt/congregate....:p

My karma has run over your dogma.

^^...heh, sorry, I just had to say that.
Anyway, I do kind of like school. The actual school part (as long as it isn't P.E. or Math) is ok. It's the morons (heh, the stronger word I wanted to use would be blocked) at my school that piss me off the most. I think we got stuck with the biggest losers in Perth...and most of my friends aren't too normal themselves (they're crazy and hyper).
I'd have to say my favoutite subjects is history. My least favourite subject is math...*shudders*
Well, I'm not going to write much more, I don't really like thinking about school on a Saturday :p.

Well, actually this is kind of tricky to answer. Like Kinetic said, some things are good and some are bad.

The bad things mainly have to deal with some really stupid people. Starting with my Shop teacher. He is always talking about respect and how we don't deserve it, but he does. Sure I respect my elders, especially my teachers, but he thinks we should kiss the ground he walks on. Than you have to deal with the people who want to sell you drugs, they just follow you and they won't stop.

There are many advantages of school though. I actually like learning new things, even if I don't like doing the work. My school is pretty ghetto so allot of "Gangsters" and "Thugs" get into fights allot. Hey it may be cruel but nothing beats walking out of Math to see 2 people beating the living hell out of each other. It actually wakes me up. Than, there is lunch. Food and friends, you can't not like lunch.

The point in taking math is that it looks good on your CV, and might help you get a dream job :)

I like school for the most part, as my school has some of the best grades in the country on average. However, I think I made a bad choice, as the people I go to school with are just annoying. Popularity this, stab in the back that.

Actually, maths is probably the most useful subject you will do in school. I know people hate hearing this, and God knows, I've been in enough 'discussions' with apathetic maths students, but really folks, learning to count is kinda essential to modern life. ;)

Everything that you do, whether you're going into business, whether you're balancing your bank books, doing your taxes, or just trying to divide up a dinner bill, you need maths. If you plan on doing something even vaguely technical in the future, maths will play a vital role, from engineering to economics, you can't live without it. And if you plan to do any kind of serious coding, you can forget it if you can't do your maths. Half of first year computing at university level is practically all maths.

But I suppose everyone knows this already, despite all the b*tching. :D

And I agree with Elite. Maths tutoring works. Of course there's only so much a maths tutor can do, the rest is really up to the student. If the kid is not prepared to put in the hard yards, its difficult to make the kind of difference that parents expect.

School? School is a load of crap for me. It's maybe partly the reason I come on the boards, because of all the stupid stuff that happens there.

I go to bed pretty late, after midnight most days and then have to wake up at 7am for school, sometimes only after getting four hours sleep. This doesn't help my sanity or my moods at all so at school, I'm generally very sleepy and crazy.

There are some real bad people at our school that I know. If I didn't go to school, I would'nt know these foul mockeries of human life (although, then I wouldn't know most of my friends either ^_^).

The learning bit is great though, everyone wants a good job or just the job they want. Me? I want to design characters or worlds for videogames, Nintendo I would love. I will probably never get this far, this would be because my graphics class at school is full of people who don't even work. All lesson, the sit and talk, throw stuff around the classroom, take the piss out of me, be violent a lot. The list goes on.

Overall, school is okay I guess. I'd give it 5/10 if I had to. :P

Finally out of school! We got out early today at 1:00. 16 days of pure happiness and joy! Of course one of my teachers that hates me has to give me homework over the holiday. That just goes against the meaning of "vacation" and "holiday", now don't you think? But I already did it and finished it so I don't have to mess with that for the rest of my vacation. So now, I can enjoy it!:)

I might agree. We got out yesterday as well. However, the second i walk in the door, i was planning on leaving and hanging with friends. you know, like a " normal" teenager. But nooooo. My mom has to go and give me things to do. I had to drive all over creation. But it's ok. I like to drive.
