Gee, what a rip. That guy sounds like he needs a good rolling up in a carpet and being tossed off a bridge. He's probably just hates Christmas because he has to spend it all alone or doing horrible stuff, so he takes it out on you guys. Anyway, I'll get back to eating my mashed plums which taste not too good(I'm serious, this very moment I'm eating mashed, actually sliced plums in juice).
I'd like to see how many teachers even bother to show up.
Very true, getting teachers to work on Christmas Day would be on heck of a job, and I doubt anyone would want to pay them extra money.

I honestly find this hard to believe, as if anyone had enough common sense they would realise that hardly anybody would turn up on Christmas Day, regardless of what he says.

Start a petition, make sure everybody signs it, he won't suspend you.

Leave a diary, typed out, unsigned, about how you're planning a massacre on the day. No incriminating evidence, leave it in a place he can find. Even if he does still make you come to school, get a large number of people to follow him around whenever possible. I assure you, it works. Tried it at my old school once, on one of the teachers. He left after a week of it. But then, we didn't have the diary...

Cloricus, don't say dude within my hearing for any reason.

Just don't go to school... I mean jeeze. It's really simple if you think about it.

This is when you have your parents all complain to the school board. If you do this right, this guy will be either fired or impeached or whatever. Then again, maybe he's jewish.... You should really get 8 days off for Chanuka, or however you spell that.

You'd be amazed at what your parents can do when they complain... remember, they have the power of the vote, which will make a politician crouble to his/her knees. All that needs to be said is "Oh whats that? I'm sorry, you don't want my vote next term? ok" and if enough of you get your parents to do that... well they'll be at your mercy.

like many people have already stated, it's illegal to suspend anyone for signing a petition. Its against your rights as a person.
There's actually this legal jargon about while you're in school the principal acts as your legal guardian, and therefore some of your 'legal' rights are taken away. I forget what it's called, but while you're in school you don't exactly have as many rights as you think you do.

From my knowledge, Christmas is a federal holiday (right?) therefore all governmental institutions including all public school systems are off that day. In addition, if you are Christian (or have some friends who are), you can complain that the school cannot infringe upon your right to freedom of religion and that you must spend that day home to worship your God. (Uh...something tells me that you're planning to do more than that with that day, but...) In addition, there is nothing one can do against petition signers provided the petition merely is a bunch of signatures against the holiday, not anything violent or factious. You should have the position that you peaceably fought the proposal but (and this is important) still followed it, where the leaders directly violated your freedoms of religion and petition - and threatened to abuse their office to violate your right (that is, suspend you for petitioning). "Small insignificant presents"!? Try to get some religious group to fight that, saying that he was defaming Christmas by ignoring it's religious aspect and deprecating the secular aspect.

BabyGirl, yes, the principal does have some rights over you but as decided in Tinker v. Des Moines (the black armbands case) constitutional rights are guaranteed with respect to the school environment. If I remember the quote correctly from my American History class two years ago, the decision said we don't check our rights at the schooldoor. I would think this applies to clowmet's rights. One of the conditions in that case is that the students had the right to wear the armbands because they were not disruptive. For this reason, I'd not recommend a Harlequin-type solution.

Clowmet, did the newspaper give any reasons on why he changed the date? Was it because of his own common sense, complaints from people, or an official veto.

Now that's just crazy. You know, I think that you just shouldn't go to school that day. It's Christmas, a day to celebrate Christ's birthday.

Now who in such a morid person would do that. He woships the Devil. *cuts guy's head off* It's CHIRSTmas. Not SCHOOLmas. Sorry, I just can't control myself.

Go to school...on Christmas break? What does this guy think he's doing? It will probably fall through anyway, but in case it doesn't, just don't go. :) If you can convince your parents to let you stay home, good, but if not, I wouldn't go anyway. This is coming from someone who has never skiped school in his life, but having to go to school on Christmas? I believe that's morally wrong, and it's not the presents that get you off of school, lol, that guy is a dumbass, it's the religious holiday.

What he should have realized, is that he should just take off days from the end of school, which is most ligical, or one or two from Spring Break. That's what my county is doing.

EDIT:Glad they changed it, even though I still don't think they should have taken away from Christmas break.

I say you find find whoever made teh decision, and beat the hell out of them. :p Nah, violence isn't the answer. But you should somehow stand up to them, start a petition or something of that sort.

Last year Mrs.Lindemood wanted us to have homework on the 2nd to last day of school, so Kelsey started a petition. It sounded like a good idea but she said even if GOD signed it she would make us do it. :p It was worth a shot though.

About that lega stuff...

The Supreme court divides law decisions into 3 categories. School, Military, and Other. Basically that mean what goes on in your normal life as far as rights are concenred can and will change if it has to do with school or the military. Plus, you not being 18, have no legal rights. You are basically a slave under your parents. So yeah.

Anyway, as someone said, it's a federal holiday, so unles syour going to a private school, you aren't going anywhere on Christmas, so stop worrying about it and just enjoy it. And like I said, if you have that big a problem with it, like it seems you do, all yo need to do is get your parents to threaten the school board and it'll all be over.

Meh, youre all talking about that maybe at school we have fewer rights then most other places...
JEBUS! Who was the genuis who realised that? Of course, anyone who realised that them making us go to school is basically a violation of anything to do with free will, probably would have said that.
Screw what the guy says, he's not going to rock around to your house and make you come along anyway...
If youre parents are people, they'll let you stay home

that guy was a complete idiot. Seriously, he makes the Grinch look like an Arc Angel. I can't believe that he was even thinking about stifling christmas for you, and his staff, he just sounds like a pathetic, lonely man who would have been the only one to show up.

If my old high school said that, my parent's would have told them to get stuffed, and so would I seen as i have zero respect for that old hole :p

But then again... I get the feeling he could have been kidding. Our principal walked in each of the classrooms, and announced, "We're all keeping you for Christmas! If you don't come to school on Christmas, you all get an F!!!".

Then he left.

By fifth period, the vice-principal announced through the intercom, "Ignore Mr. Dea. It's Friday the 13th, Mr.Dea will be acting a little strange for the rest of the day."

:rotflmao:

My school isn't always this... weird. o_o;
