NeoCactuar
When I first put the Vice City disk in my PS2, I was filled with joy. Watching the loading screen, and finally, beginning the game. Upon taking control of Tommy for the first time, I thought my disk was broken. Broken you say? Yes, simply because of the shocking colours and blurring effects. I was quite disappointed, but I did not give up, and soon found what I was looking for, the trails option. Upon Turing this off, all the colours looked perfect, and the graphics sharper and clearer. The one thing every Vice City player must know, is to turn of your trails. This will make the games colours look a lot better, and the graphics sharper. It will also change the colour of that shocking sky from that orange red colour, to blue.
Charles
Yes, as I've stated in my initial impressions of the game, the first thing I did was disable the trails effect. While it does lend a certain artistic perspective, capturing the tacky fluorescence of the period, it's too prevalent and distracting for my tastes. Plus, it tends to hide the game's improved resolution. On the contrary, I actually prefer to keep the effect enabled in Grand Theft Auto 3 because the game's brown and gray palette is too dull for my tastes sans trails.
Yeah, I found that too. I was never bothered by it in GTAIII, but like you said that palette was pretty crappy. I like Vice Cities one a lot more, it has more vibrant colours, and they are on the whole side more bright, as is what you would expect with the more tropical setting. James
I was a little dissappointed with Vice City's visuals, frankly. They weren't the step up from GTAIII that people were saying. The trails effect was nothing but a gimmick. It's kind of a shame that visibility wasn't noticeably improved and such...and I find that the almost flat-shaded look of some buildings in VC gives the game a slightly more bland style than GTAIII in some areas. Although, I was quite impressed by the whole beach and lighthouse area...it was impressive at night.

Digital
With the trails on or off, it was all the same for me. I liked it either way and it didn't get in the way of my accuracy. In any case turning off the trail does improve the colours but I like the neat trail effect.
Break
Playing my friend's copy, the trails were already switched off, but what really annoyed me is that stupid sun glare. You couldn't see a damn thing when that happens! Ahh.. at least I can check out the visuals in detail on Christmas day. Yum. :) And, NeoC, does this really need to be a sticky? o_O *unstucks it* Just thought it was something people should consider before they begin to play the game - NeoC
Chaos
Personally for me, I take the trails off in GTA3 whenever the character finds those neato shrooms. Adds to the whole 'high' effect. I put them back on when he comes off it. *points to back cover of GTA3 case* You can't beat Red Light District at night when it's raining. So far, that is the best setting I have ever seen on PS2 [seeing as how I haven't played VC yet.] But James, I'll keep in mind to check out the beach and lighthouse at night. If you say it's good, then it usually is. *looks at a screenie of the beach at dawn* Hell, that right there is nice too...V_V
