The Getaway!!!

I think this is another great game, but why do they have to be mean and bring out loads of good games before Christmas?

The question is what is The Getaway squared off against Vice City?

Which game do you prefer and in what areas?

I enjoy playing The Getaway even though I've only just got it I can tell its a fab game! I like the idea of being based in London as it's only a 20 minute train ride from where i live so close to home. Also i think it's way more realistic to Vice City with the deaths and characters. I must say also i find The Getaway more challenging than Vice City which is a good and bad thing as i get infuriated with games when i can't do them and good as it will take me longer to get the hang of missions. A bad thing is that you are always in a mission, but you can wonder around but there aren't many of mission things to do like Vice City really. The cut scenes are decent, but you can't skip them so when you have already seen it, it gets rather .

I recommend it to be down on your Christmas list, so if you get it or have it please tell me what you think of it and compare the two games.

 Grant :demon:

i thinks this game is cool. I have only played the demo of it, and i have to say that it is harder than vice city. The graphics are better and the cars are actual cars. Its good how they copied London in such great detail. The only down side is you only have three weapons :( but who cares, i will be enjoying this game on christmas day :)

Yeah the weapons is a bit of a bummer and the cars being quite slow can get annoying (but very realistic). The Londoner accent is great and very well done. It's quite funny the way they swear alot! Another thing that disapointed me is that like GTA games i found a glitch on The Getaway the other day . Oh well it's still a great game so yeah you shoud get it!

i have got it for Christmas, yeah they have got the accents really good and they swer a lot which is a really good asset to the game because in Vice City they dont do that a lot. I also noticed that the cars are easily damaged too but i like the way the tries melt when the car is on fire. what glitch did u find?

To even compare this game to Vice City is rediculous. Sure, they both support violent content and allow freedom, but The Getaway seems like it plays out similar to a movie or something. Supposedly (havn't played it yet), there is nothing on the screen, and you really don't have as much freedom as Vice City. It doesn't come off as a video game, which is a cool idea, but could really be ruined if it isn't handled with caution.

I think I'll rent it first. ;)

You do have a bit of freedom, there is a mode where you do not have to do mission you can just run around the town, but i aint too sure since i aint played the real game yet i have only played the Demo which as the first mission.

I think the demo is slightly different supposely, not sure. It's really frustrating being that hard I mean I've had James Bond: Nightfire a day and completed it, but The Getaway is well hard! To get that mode you were talking about I believe you have to complete the game, whether my sources are wrong i don't know!?! I just run around anyway it's fun. I admit that Vice City is amazing, but it really really annoyed me as it won't let me load my game (which i had finished ) it just comes up as a pitch black screen. Ahhhhh so many games i want, why do they all come out for Christmas?

BigCajones, isn't it obvious? All great games are released at Xmas, because they sell alot of copies at this time of the year! The Getaway looks great. Is it anything like 'Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels', that film, because the advert reminds me of it. What weapons do you actually have then? From screenshots that I have seen the cars look a bit sketchy, but it's probably been improved in the final release!

Hmm, you guys like it but in the UK it has had a negetive response

Control system is rubbish, no tourist mode (added to Japanese version I think) and once you complete the game there really isn't anything else for you to do, you can probably complete it if you rent it out and play it a lot

Well I don't think the cars are that sketchy really they look pretty realistic and london like with the bonus factor of their accents. It's a bit hard navigating though it has indicators, but they aint a great help it should have a map allthough I should know london pretty well.

Supposely you can get tourist mode when you finish the game, which is something to do (I know Vice City has more to do as extras). I guess if you got used to The Getaway you could complete it in like a week of renting it, but I find it harder than Vice City!
there is nothing on the screen
If you mean in terms of traffic, I don't think they would have attracted many people to the game if they fully recreated London traffic, lol.

you really don't have as much freedom as Vice City

True, but I would never compare this game to Vice City. It seems to be trying to be more realistic and to pull away from the whole GTA type of game. Once you complete the game you can roam around the city, as far as I know.

There is no health bar, no map. I think this is very good indeed, as you don't really get a little dot that follows you on a map in real life, or something that tells you when your death is imminent.
The only way you can tell that you're injured is by looking at your character. The only really unrealistic bit is the fact that the police officers all carry guns, which really doesn't happen in the UK.

The fact that I can drive past my house is a very cool bonus as well :p

I think everyone would vote for Vice City, but it's still a good game for your Christmas list. It's funny how you can recover just by leaning on a wall lol. I like being able to roll, strangle people and hide behind walls, which I think the next GTA should do maybe and add like some sort of autosave, so when your in a rush you don't have to leave it on all night. Also STOP those glitches!!!

I think the graphics on The Getaway are really good and the virtual London is cool although the navigation is really oonfusing and the controls are a little dodgy because you cant always move in the direction you want to as i found out when i tried to dodge a laser beam but set it off and died because of the gas but other than that i think its a good game although i like the animations on gta vice city and the weapons and cars
