This thread is about the anime series NOIR. For those of you who might not know what this anime is about, I will summarize it up for you. This series is basically about a young girl, who has no memory of herself, and a woman, who lost her family at a young age. They meet and form an assassination group called 'Noir'. Noir is supposively the 'God of Death' and also literally translates into dark or gloomy. Their main objective is to find redemption in the things they lost. They have very cool fighting skills and even though the characters look very innocent, they are infact not. It's Love Hina meets Cowboy Beop. I've gotten hooked on this series over the past few weeks, and I highly recommend it! :)

(The animation is sweet and check out the cool music in the series also!)

For those of you who have seen the series, this is just a very basic summary for those who haven't seen it.

Post your opinions about NOIR here!

I have only seen the dvd in newtype but i was impressed. the thing about it is it is HEAVY on the music. Every word out of every characters mouth made you have to sit and concetrate. I was reminded of Cowboy Bebop in the music sense. The story seems really interesting, i could definetly grow to love this series. The animation doesn't hurt.

I like it (average) but the plot comes really slowly. It takes a while to make sense of it which makes it less watchable inbetween action scenes. I still like it though, its got me hooked after seeing an episode with an old Russian who committed genocide but eventually turned into a nice old man with a cat. That was a great episode!

Cool, I found the old post which I made a brief comment about Noir:
EDIT: Everyone hates repetition? That's a darn shame, because, when executed properly, it has a really awesome effect on the overall experience with the anime. Take Noir, where repetition serves as a "you might want to think/take note of this a little more than other things" foreshadowing. In other words, it's a way to represent varying degrees of importance. Noir does it significantly better than every anime I have ever seen, where the singular scene that defines everything is shown little by little, and in reverse. As the series progresses, you see more and more, and the big picture just doesn't hit you until late in the series.
What I like about Noir is that every episode serves some purpose, and the level of symbolism is above even that of .hack//SIGN (haha, I guess SIGN is one generation above me). If you didn't get the point of an episode, you will later.
Hated it to a extent. I liked parts of it but, I found the story a little boring....it also was hard to understand alot of it.
O_o What was hard to understand? This series was the most simplistic series I've ever seen - well, the most simplistic series that was good. You can use spoiler tags, and I'll be happy to elaborate. Haha, my friend and I connected every piece of "inactive scene" to a point. It's simply brilliant, and you will be surprised how such a straightforward series could have such a clever setup.

EDIT: WAAAIIIT a minute... Someone revived an old thread! Darn shame, since there's a lot to talk about in Noir. =/

I've only seen what they have relesed on DVD(I think 23 episodes) and I do think this is a great series, I am sort of reminded of Cowboy Bebop with the whole feel of the show. I do Agree with AzureWolf that the repitition is used very well. It also has some great fight sceans and a good overall story.

My personal favorite episodes are the Inttocobble episodes

YES, finally someone else brought up another Noir thread besides me lol. Anyway yea this is my third favorite anime series as of right now. I finally got the 7th and final DVD about 4 days ago, and it proved to be even better than i imagined it would be. The description of each character is great, the creators of this series did a magnificant job is describing the backround of each character. The artistic drawings where excellent....down to every last facial expression and scenery. There is basically no blood found in this anime except for about 2 scenes. The story was great, about as good as Cowboy Bebop and in some aspects maybe even better. There are a lot of flashbacks that are key to the whole story of this anime and all the threads and loose ends come together at the end of this series. The first DVD may seem a little boring to some but its just basically a setup of the two main characters, trust me it gets so much better from DVD2 onward. And one last thing, the fighting scenes were unreal, espically the ones with Chloe.

I watched the first episode of it. My friend let me borrow it when I went over to his house last week. He gets Newtype magazine too.
My friend told me that he thought it was confusing, but after I watched it, I thought it wasn't. I thought that it was very good. I really liked the song that played when that fancy watch was open. I would like to see more of it. I guess that I will have to wait awhile. I don't think my local entertainment store has it in stock.
I think that it is just a very interesting anime.

I'm really interested in seeing Noir. However, I'm not entirely sure if I want to invest in it yet.

The basic concept definitely appeals to me, and I enjoy anime that makes me think, so a twisty, mind-bending plot wouldn't turn me off. Plus, the animation sounds excellent.

But I also heard that despite a very promising start, the series really slows down, and has a number of filler and "bad guy of the day" episodes. So perhaps I'll wait before buying it.

Its the complete opposite.....in the beginning its kind of a little slow, since it gives a huge backround on every character and has a lot of flashbacks as well. Later on in the series its extremely fast and everything ties in together with the flashbacks playing the most important role in the series. I would really consider spending money on purchasing this series.

~Dagger~
Well, there are "fillers" in the sense that they don't move the story forward. However, you have to realize that there's always a reason for each episode - a theme, if you will. Within one of the early "filler" episodes, it's family and the bonds that demand the right of way. That's the best way I can say it without spoiling anything. :D Seriously, you will look back on some supposedly useless episodes and notice that there was a point to almost every miniscule thing going on. For example, there's one scene with Kirika walking along some tracks, and you have to wonder if they are just wasting time, but when you get a better look at the tracks... ;)

The story isn't the only thing developing in the series, so some episodes aren't dedicated to the plot. In fact, some later events don't make sense without them.

I just watched the second episode a few minutes ago, and I really liked it, considering it was the first episode of it that I've seen.

I have generally heard positive recommendations about the anime from friends, so I was willing to give it a chance. The story is very deep and I can understand it getting confusing at times, but I think this is mainly due to the excruciating ammount of detail put into it. It plays out as if this is something that could actually happen in real life, and I was very impressed. None of the action scenes were drawn out, the story had a chance to develop a lot, none of the dialogue was cheesy, the animation was amazing, and simply put, it was believable.

It left a good taste in my mouth, and I'm anxious to see more. :)

I've seen the first two episodes to it but I like it so far. It is a little slow to start but hopefully as I get more involved the plot will be easier to see. But I must say that both ladies do kick some serious butt and I was blown away by some of the action visuals.
Now to be impressed by everything else in the story!!!!

I watched a few episodes of it and i dont really know what to think of it. Its nice but its too er... easy. Not the plot, but the way things go. I mean, they can shoot down anyone with just one shot, but if they're being shooted at, they just hide behind a chair and they're fine. (did this need a spoiler?)

However, it's so easy because Kirika is a professional killer (and so is Mirielle), but if you want a spoiler answer to your comment:
tests always start out easy and get harder
. Watch more and it'll make more sense. ;)
It plays out as if this is something that could actually happen in real life, and I was very impressed. Believe it or not, the fact that the story and ending were so "simple" (i.e., a lack of aliens, super-heroes, or what-have-you) was one of the complaints people had about it. I'm glad you aren't as low-headed as those people.
