G/S/B Master
OK,I just bought FFIX.And I have a few questions.... Does Quina's Limit glove work on bosses?(I'll be unstoppable if it does,9999 damage!) How do I get to the boss in the cave near Qu's Marsh?(One with dead Bermecia soldiers and Black mages, the last word in the location was Groto) and What level do you recommend fighting the boss? Jeebs
I'm pretty sure Limit Glove would work against bosses. When you enter, get the bell from the soldier. Ring it at the door to open it. When you defeat the Black Mages, use the bell you get from the last one on the door to the left of the big door. Go all the way around and get the bell from the injured soldier. Go back and use it on the big door. Go through it and you will find a room with a big bell. The moogle will use the kupo nut Vivi got in Lindblum to save her husband, then leave. Open the treasure chest and get the bell. Go into the room where the moogles went and talk to them. This would be a good time to rest and save. DO NOT go outside unless you are at a high level, because there are Grand Dragons, which are very powerful. Though, if you stay in the forrested area you might find a friendly Garuda, and if you give it Lapus Lazula, you will get a lot of AP. Anyway, when you try to exit the room the way you came in, the male moogle will stop you and give you another bell. Use it on the door to the left of the giant bell to get into the room with the boss, Gizamaluke. You should equip you character with equipment that absorbs or decreases damage done by water attacks. Break
Mmm. I recommend having a lot of Softs, or whatever you do to cure Silence. Gizamaluke tended to use Silence a lot on Vivi, and I didn't have any Softs (or whatever) so I just had to make use of his puny physical attacks. V_V;; Edit: I am so silly. When I said soft I meant Echo Screen (thanks for telling me, Valen).
Valen
Echo Screens are what cure Silence. Softs cure petrification. As for Level reccomendation, I'd say AT LEAST Lvl 20. Fight the Pythons and steal from the toads. Eat the toads to get Quina to learn a Blue Magic attack. For the battle: Have Zidane steal once (or twice, Giz has good items) and have Vivi pummel Giz with his thunder. Quina should be the healer, and Freya should either use Lancer (under her Dragon command) to take HP and MP from Giz and she should also Jump when she goes into Trance. Trance: Zidane-- Dyne command will appear, use the command closest to the bottom, it's the stronger. Vivi-- Dbl Blk (Double Black Magic Attack) Use thunder twice. Quina-- Cook. A useless command for a boss battle, just allows you to eat without damaging the enemy to half HP. Freya-- No different command. Jump sends two spears down instead of one, damaging the enemy more. Now Giz is hard, especially if he silences you. I'd reccomend you buy a lot of Echo Screens, fight and learn abilities of your weapons (So you can equip stronger weapons without losing the tech.) Talk to the [Big Brother] Moogle in Qu's Swamp to learn about that and/or look on page 4(I think) in your instruction manual to learn how to equip abilities. Once you've learned your abilities, prepare to battle Giz and head to Bermecia, your next destination. I will leave you to battle Giz now, Good Luck! SephirothNIN
I thought Freya's trance threw spears at all enemies, not just more spears on one. Altho I've never....tried it on a single enemy. When I did it on a group though she threw a bunch of spears and it hit everyone.
Desbreko
Whenever I've gone into Trance with Freya, I used the Jump command, and she would just stay up in the air and throw spears down each round until the Trance meter ran out. Very nice, since it would damage all the enemies, and at the same time, she wouldn't be able to be hurt because she'd be up in the air. Gotta love dragoons, heh. She's definitely the coolest character in that game, I think.
Break
Yeah, Freya was definately my favorite character too. Probably strongest too. I can't remember how I defeated Gizamaluke, I think I eventually cured Vivi of his Silence and just attacked with loadsa spells and stole with Zidane and busted him up with lots of physical goodness from Freya. ^_^
G/S/B Master
OoT: Whats up with Break's member title? Moderator & Idiot..... I are idiot. You must ask me on PM, it's a long story, my friend. -Break Anyways is Gizamaluke a beast?I could really cause some havoc if he does. Do you recommand me to learn EVERY abilility that I can learn?
Valen
Yes, and Yes. Learning the abilities will help you in the long run... trust me on that one. I've went through FFIX many times and found it to be much easier. Yes, Giz is a beast. Freya went for the whole trance time? Hmmm I never noticed that... probably because the enemies never lasted after 2 shots. The reason I said that she threw the spear at one enemy is that I was refering to the Giz battle, where you only have one enemy. Btw, once you beat Giz and go to Burmecia, I hope you like those bell doors...
Corey
Someone help me out here... When you fight Gizamaluke Zidane should have a certain ability learned(I think it's learned from a sword). It will blind Gizamaluke and greatly increase your chance of winning. It's Soulblaze or something like that. I'm not much help am I...
Jeebs
It's called Soul Blade. The status effect it causes depends on what weapon you have equipped. And Gizamaluke is a flying type monster.
Valen
Yes, it is called Soul Blade and is learned by the Mage Masher (I think) either that or the one that you get right before the Festival of the Hunt... you know, the one you have to synth 2 Mage Mashers to get? Oh wait... that's the other attack... oops... Also, Giz will start to use water attacks when he's low on HP... if Jump doesn't work with Freya, go with Lancer if you have it... it takes away HP and MP from the enemy... Learning every ability just for this boss would be a bit silly, if you're going to don't learn ones that edit your strength; instead, learn stuff that can affect the enemy's status. :)
Jeebs
Oh yeah. If you use a tent on the enemy, there's a 1 in 3 chance that a snake will bite, which causes various status effects. You might want to try that at the beginning of the battle, before you do any damage, because it also heals the enemy.
Valen
Yes, and only use a tent on your character in an emergency, for if the snake bites... Poison, Blind, and I think Silence occurs. That's what happened when I used a tent on Zidane when we were battling Ark... I can't believe I got beat by a BOAT....A BOAT! But then I came back and destroyed the peice of s**t boat... So good luck with Giz! Don't bypass those censors, laddie! -Break
SephirothNIN
hey Ark was pretty hard despite being a boat, I don't remember why tho, maybe he counterattacked a lot? Anywhoo that tent strategy works really well. I used a tent on Ozma super-later in the game and it helped a lot, w/o it I probably wouldn't have been able to win. I don't remember gizamaluke being too hard, just use regular boss strategies like using your best attacks and healing when ya need to.
Sandy
I remember that Ark had an attack that put all characters HP to 1 - and it loved to use that attck!*groan* Luckily I had Freya in the party, and she was jumping almost all the time, so she wasn't there when the boatie leashed the attack, thus being able to cure the others... Valen
Hehehe Ark was fun though... Photon would bring Zidane to 1HP, but then an elixer would be thrown on him... Oh, and Peridot works just like a Curaga... hehe...
JCBaggee
Originally posted by Valen Yes, and only use a tent on your character in an emergency, for if the snake bites... Poison, Blind, and I think Silence occurs.
It's the "Poison/Darkness/Blind Snake". It will cause all the aforementioned status affects, unless the enemy is guarded against them. Of course, if you miss, the enemy will be fully healed, so only use it in the beginning of battle. Also, have Quina eat a Beheamoth and learn "Mighty Guard", which casts Protect and Shell on your entire party. It's a short effect, but well worth it. --J.C.
G/S/B Master
I'm already on disk 3 :p.This game is sort of easy.ANyways I'm at the place where Kuja asked Zidane to go to Oeilvert to get a stone. Will anyone give me tips about this area? Zidane is in level 26,Freya's level is 25,Armarant's is 25,and Quina (even though I depend on her Blue magic I have no choice of picking her, even though I should've pick Steiner over her,but Quina does more damage and has more HP than him :D) is in level 24.I'm still training my characters if there is a boss, which there is I think. JCBaggee
In Oelivert, equip your weakest weapons. The weaker your weapon, the more damage you cause in the castle. I know, it's odd, but it's true. You'll find said weapons (Mage Masher, etc.) scattered around the castle in treasure boxes.
Guest Kikyou
Uhh you must be thinking about Ipsen's Castle..Oeilvert is the place where there are guys that have an attack called "Mirror". When they use it, they might do a mirror on one of your guys and they kill them, so don't revive them because when you kill the mirror image and attack the mirror guy, he'll bring out the EXACT same mirror image. Those guys give you a TON of exp points. If you need any help, ask me. I've beaten the game 2 times and I'm playing it for the 3rd time now. JCBaggee
Another thing, while in Ipsen's Castle, you'll see giant stone creatures named Epitaph. These suckers may appear invincible, but for an easy win, use a Soft on them. They will "become too soft to survive" and die. --J.C.
Guest Kikyou
...The Epitaphs are in Oeilvert...if you want to get a lot of exp then do these steps: 1. Attack the Epitaph once to bring on the mirror image 2. Kill mirror image #1 3. Attack the Epitaph again to bring out the second mirror image 4. Kill mirror image #2 5. Attack the Epitaph again to bring out the third mirror image 5. Kill mirror image #3 6. Kill Epitaph -Note: Make sure you have Jelly equipped for ALL of your party...or else the Epitaph can petrify a character. Also equip Clear Headed since Ark has an attack that can confuse your party. And there is a boss in Oeilvert, called the Ark, and he's a pain in the ***. Soon enough you'll notice he always attacks in a certain order. Propeller Wind, Boomerang, Whirlwind and Photon are his attacks, but I don't remember the pattern x.x And equip High Tide...it'll get you into trance faster...
Valen
The pattern is usually Photon, Propeller Wind, Boomerang, Photon, Photon, Boomerang, Whirlwind, Photon, etc. Your best bets would be to do like Kikyou said. Oh, and once you trance, just Solution 9 your way to victory. You should have a lot of potions, High Potions, and Peridot (it heals the same amount as a Curaga) in your items. Use your weakest character to be on the Healing. Use Quina's White Wind and Mighty Gaurd. Also have a few Remidies to cure confusion...
