BigCajones
Bill Gates must have something up his sleeve or just showing off his big bucks when he bought Rareware for 375 million big ones!!! I thought Rare made loads of brilliant games for the N64 such as Goldeneye, Perfect Dark, Banjo Kazooie, Conkers Bad Fur Day, Donkey Kong 64 and probably many more I have forgotten. These titles won't be on the GC again :bawl:. I suppose it doesn't really effect me as I own all 3 of the competing consoles, :p but what do you other Gamecube players out there think about this? Will it make a big impact, because Bill Gates could do this again with another great company making games. If he wanted to he sure has the dosh! At the moment I believe Rare have only listed Kameo and Perfect Dark 0 as titles they are going to release for the Box next year, but they have loads of other huge titles coming from viewing X02. SaiyanPrincessX
I love Rareware.. My favorite N64 game is Jet Force Gemini. My brother used to use Rareguy as his name. The Bill Gates had to go and buy it.:flaming:
Hittokiri Zero
Wrong DK still belongs to Nintendo =], alot of those games wre a combonation of Rare and Nintendo, although susally published under Rare's name, so Nintendo will be retaining certain titles such as Donkey Kong! But bye bye Perfect Dark and and Conker =\ most probably bye bye Banjo Kazooie as well ='{. nevertheless the GC is still a great buy dang those hoes at microsoft
BigCajones
I did actually know about the Donkey Kong situation it's just that I heard they probably won't be able to make games for the Gamecube, but they have a good chance of being able tomake some for the GBA. Hittokiri Zero
Is that so? -.o? Well most of what i've read said nothing really major is going to happen to DK/ it will still be made for both GBA abd GC, but i'll have to check up on what you said. Spikey
I loved Rareware. Goldeneye was a great game. The missions were great, except for one: Minimize Scientist Causulities, and that was way to easy. But the game was good. Banjo Kazue was amazing. They had to take it. I despise Bill Gates. I loved Banjoo, all of them. Although I only beat a couple. Perfect Dark was good, but kind of confusing. The missions were a lot harder than the Goldeneye missions. This game was great, the two player eccpeccialy. Like where you got to be one of the gaurds. So, yeah, I think Rareware is good.
SaiyanPrincessX
Eveyones seemed(seems)to love Goldeneye. Including my brother.. He used to play it non stop. It was the most annoying game. I wouldn't really mind now, because I don't see him playing it as much now. More like never.
Mako
I loved rare for their FPS and Adventure games on the 64, however, Metroid Prime shows that Rare isn't the only company capable of making a great FPS on a nintento console. It's kind of sad that M$ had to go and buy rare because their games were so poor, but that's just the way the world works. Billy had some money to waste, so he bought rare. DK will still be on Nintendo as far as I know. He's one of their mascots and all, the only thing would be that any DK game made, would not be done by rare. BigCajones
Ahh sorry I read wrong it just says that Rare can't make Donkey Kong anymore, but they may be able to for the GBA. Of course Gamecube is still great console, but couldn't good old Bill just buy more and more companies!?!
SS5 Gogeta
I read somewhere that Rare is still making DK racing for GC though. Probably that would keep me happy till F-Zero comes out.
Charles
Well, when the split occurred Nintendo claimed that Rare accounted for only 9.5 percent of total Nintendo software revenue worldwide. Heh, they even followed up by claiming that the number declined to 1.5 percent during the year of 2002. According to an article I once read, Peter Mcdougal once said something along the lines of "Nintendo had the opportunity to continue its exclusive relationship with Rare but declined to do so because the company's value for the future of Nintendo was limited." I'm paraphrasing, but it's fairly close to what he said. Furthermore, they're already attempting to fill the void by pursuing another second party developer to continue cranking out quality exclusives. I wonder if that has anything to do with the "Megaton" rumors that ran rampant, heh. I won't terribly miss Rare. Many of their games were contrived in the fashion of Nintendo's titles. I mean, Rare's platformers were obviously modeled after Nintendo's own formulas. Even their Kart racing titles were fashioned similarly to Mario Kart. Star Fox Adventures borrows many concepts from Zelda. The list goes on... The only title I'll miss is Perfect Dark. But, there are other quality first person shooters on the GameCube, like Medal of Honor: Frontline and TimeSplitters 2, for instance. It's obvious that Nintendo isn't hurting in the area of exclusives either, even regarding close franchises. The Star Fox series will continue, returning to its aerial roots under Namco, while a new F-Zero will release under Sega's Amusement Vision development house. So yeah, I feel that Rare is a quality second party developer, but they aren't essential to Nintendo's success or anything.
Sniglefager
About the D.K. thing first: D.K. racing is still being made for GC, as well as another D.K. game. There hasn't been much info yet, but it's supposed to be an adventure, like Donkey Kong 64. Now, about GBA, Rare did say they possibly might still make GBA games, but I highly doubt it. Now, Nintendo replacing Rare is a given, as it was their best 2nd party company. I would say that Capcom thing isn't gonna happen though, as they're too major a company. If Nintendo does get a new 2nd party developer, I would guess it would be Silicon Knights or Retro. Yes, sadly Banjo- Kazooie went with Rare, as with Conker and Perfect Dark, but Nintendo knows what they're doing, and as Crazy White Boy said, Nintendo ain't hurting for exclusives. Will I miss Rareware? Yes, but not terribly.
Desbreko
Retro Studios and Silicon Knights are already second party developers. (And didn't Retro actually get bought by Nintendo, too, making it a first party development house?) I was kind of looking forward to Diddy Kong Pilot on the GBA, but I don't know what's happening with that anymore, if anything. I always liked the plane levels in Diddy Kong Racing the best. I'll also miss Rare, but not that much. Nintendo still has lots of other great game series, though, despite losing the Banjo-Kazooie, Conker, and Perfect Dark series. Another 3D Donkey Kong game on the GCN would be cool. I liked DK64 quite a bit.
Booboo
Banjoo-Kazooie was my favorite game and now its gone. When I told my mom up what happened with Rare she got upset becaues every game they came out with and she played she loved( also she was looking forward to a Banjo-kazooie came for GC :bawl: ). So Rareware we will miss you.
GotenksSSJ343
Although I'll miss Rare a bunch I'll play my other Gamecube games with pride :/ I also heard a final fantasy game will be made for GC it reads from my gaming mag GameNow. That Nintendo will be having the game Final Fantasy Crystal Cronicle slated to Japan this Spring and the USA will be announced later. The game will have Fantasy style enviroments such as dungeons, swords and magic attack bursts, and it also revals the return of Mog. Maybe this is why Nintendo won't be missing Rareware much. stratigyless
Yes every one will miss rare but I think all the shooting and adventure games will be missed that most I especially miss banjo kazooie because that was my first game ever on the n64 and I shall miss all the charecters but if bill gates uses banjo and kazooie in an xbox game then I will personally hunt him down(with spike speigals help)and hurt him really bad not to mention blow up microsoft I dont have an Xbox which is really unfair(Bill Gates maniacally laughs in the backround and lightning cracks) DOWN WITH MICROSOFT AND BILL GATES
