First human clone?!

Ok,

Some woman has come forth and claimed to have created the first human clone.

The baby has been named "Eve."

The baby nor any evidence has been supplied and the claim is very suspect of being fraud.

The organization has almost no recognition and the whole story seems to be shady.

But they have come out and said a baby has been clone.

The people or "they" are a company called clone-aid.

The oddest thing about this is the origin of the group doing this.

They are all part of a religious sect called "Raelist" who follow and worship based on the experience of a race car driver with the last name Rael.

Rael had an encounter with aliens and learned that the entire human race was born from clones who were created by aliens that started this civilization.

Even funnier is this coincidence... Rael, guess what company he founded. You guessed it, clone-aid.

Kinda odd that they claim to have the first human clone... No evidence makes kent a very curious boy.

yeah, i wrote a loooooooooong reply to this, but i hadnt logged in ><

Anyway, I find this to lack credibility..

They say that theyre expecting 4 more clones nexct week, they havent presented any DNA match between the clone and clonee, etc.

I searched google news "clone".. they said

"In Rome, fertility doctor Severino Antinori, who said weeks ago that a cloned baby boy would be born in January, dismissed Clonaid's claims and said the group has no scientific credibility.
"

I had a zillion more quotes but that's the last one I copied..

Yeah, I doubt it..

I dont know what you want by means for responce Kent.

*wonders if this is how topics get 'off topic' lol...*

I would probably not beleive the woman. I wouldnt beleive anything. Its all a consiracy. Even if its not.. I wouldnt beleive. I dont know why, it's just who I am lol.

I'm sure it's possible someday... But does anyone realize how many sheep were cloned before the final one that was shown to the world was made? Quite a lot.

I find it hard to believe that some doctor, who apparently has low credibility before this, would be able to do it no problem.

Dammit.. I specifically told him that it was between us and him.. and he wasn't to tell anyone else!!..

um.. *uses hypno-doohickey* you did nooot seee thaaat...

Anyway.. I seriously doubt that it's a real clone, as presumably by "no baby" you mean that no evidence of the baby's existence at all, whether clone or not, has been given. It's not hard to provide some evidence, even if forged.. which makes it seem unusual.

As for the race-driver guy.. I have several theories on what happened. Most of them involve illegal substances (or dangerous quantities of legal ones), or being on the butt-end of a practical joke, possibly involving those same substances. But that's just me.

I'm really not in the mood for taking things seriously.. I'll make a better post later..

Well actually I was suprised enough to check on two different news channels.

First I caught it on the home turf, FOX News, but then I went to independant sources, and found MSNBC airing the same press release and that gave me a question about its creditbility also.

I think that nbc and abc would probably air something about this if there were real ratings/money behind it.

Im sure everyone is right, (or I atlest hope so) that this is fake. But how does it make you feel to think that cloning is on its way.

You can get as deep as you want to about it. I woulnt be making a post after today for a while, so when I get back from my journey home, I will post a, hopefully, nice little reply about this little pandora's box.

A clone. *nods*
Maybe it's possible later on, but I doubt anyone's made a human clone anytime so far. I don't really know about cloning in the future either. I mean... a replica of someone else!? That's just creepy. No, really creepy. @_@;

A few of my twin friends even freak me out. They look exactly the same, and sound alike, even though their personalities are different. It was pretty awkward seeing all those 'Jango Fetts' in SW II. I can't really imagine a world with clones at all. ^_^;;

I can only echo what's being said. Who is making this claim? A nutty, wacko cult. Since when does mainstream society give any credence to cults? (Oh, wait...probably shouldn't answer that lol).

Anyway, I don't know what to think. I guess my attitude is "wait and see". Apparently they're going to let scientists check out the baby to see if it's all true. So I guess we'll just have to wait and see what happens.

How could anyone trust this woman?

Supposedly, we'll see evidence in one weeks time. Until then, I'm going to point and laugh at this entirely credible organization. Why? Because I believe everything I hear about on the internet and television. Especially when it concerns cloned super babies. :toothy:

One thing is for sure, Clonaid should focus on cloning Brigitte Boisselier a better set of teeth, lol.

Whoa...does that remind anyone else of Evangelion? heh...

I read about that clone in the newspaper, and for some reason it seems really creepy. Like Juuthena said, a replica of someone else. It just doesn't seem right.

That sheep that they cloned, didn't it grow at a faster rate than normal sheep? I think, if they really have cloned a person, they're going about it too soon. They haven't worked out how to overcome all the problems with the technique yet.

Eh, well, personally, I think cloning in itself is wrong. However (just to slide to the side of the subject a bit), people tend to lump stem-cell research and cloning into one bag, which I don't like.

A lot of the arguements are that stem-cell research will lead to cloning in the end but if strictly controlled, it should be fine. SCR (I couldn't be bothered typing the entire thing) is where they get a cell and try to grow more of the cells, for exapmle a pancreatic (sp?) cell to produce insulin which can be tansferred to diabetics.

I don't believe the claim. We have to go a long way before we can actually clone people. To do it properly, we'd need a better understanding of our DNA. In time we'll gain that, but I think that our scientists are trying to run before they walk.

Just to clarify, it is the second "cloning of a human".
The first was by a French man, it was not proven either.
Thought listening to the expert that was on the news if this kid is a clone it won?t live long.

Also cloning is great, cloning humans is pointless.
Why not just do what the other six billion people on earth do and go have sex.
Then you get the haploid any way, so it?s a half clone, close enough.
Search for the prefect human is what some say, well define the perfect human, oh and yes with the type of cloning they are talking about you would have to have the perfect human to create the perfect human in the first place.

I'm all for cloning though, I wait day and night to hear about this team down in Sydney that is working on cloning eyes.

Yaggh. Gokents was like, the first to hear it because it's everywhere now.

Anyway, I guess wee must wait and see. I mean, what if it is a clone?

Even if it is, why do we care? Earth is overpopulated enough. Sheesh.

Clone something else. I'm hungry. Clone me some KFC.

When I woke up yesterday I saw the press conference on CNN and I was ....idk, laughing! Just look at the womens face, and then she's like "Extra-terrestrials gave us the information"...comeone...

I don believe that there is some other life out there in the galax, but...idk, it just all seems odd

Although I think the idea of human cloning is possible, this religious sect lacks credibility and scientific recognition. I certainly wont believe this until the international scientific community looks at the ?clone?.

Cloning is an exercise in futility from my point of view. We already have way too many people on this planet anyway...

Calumon_luver, that is just out right wrong.
The reason for cloning a human is to see if it can be done.
Like the moon landing.
There is no real reason or commercial benefit to this whole thing.

Organs and blood would be cloned from the person who would need the new "part" then that part would then be grown or "cloned" and then surgically implanted to replace the ageing/dysfunctional organ.
You don't grow a whole human for one little part.

And you tell that to some one who cloning really is the only option that can fix what is wrong with them.

Well, the idea that cloning is for extra otrgans.. I mean, the clones have feelings too! Save the clones!

Can't they just clone organs too? I always thought that was possible.
\

Hmm.. On second thouight, maybe they can't.. Oh well.

Anyway, I still think we have to wait and see about the DNA match. I mean, it COULD be. Wouldn;t it be funny (and scary) to see that we were all wrong? Dun think it'll happen, but I'll wait it out.

So yes, they can 'clone' cells and organs, or, at least, they're working on it. I agree with stem-cell research. I don't agree with cloning. As far as I know, there's no medical benefit from cloning (although anyone is free to prove me wrong on that). And, as I said earlier, there's something about cloning a human being that is just creepy. It doesn't seem right.
