Guest Musahi
Oh my god, I feel horrible right now. Earlier today I took out Christmas tree down and put it in the Garage. I saw one of my cats, Rhyno, walk in. I closed the door anyway, they cry when they want out. About 30 minutes later I heard Rhyno trying to get in so I opened the door. When I got back to my chair my mom asked me what I did. I told here about how I let Rhyno in. She said, "Oh no, I had rat poisining in one of the corners, I hope Rhyno didn't get into it". I looked at her and said something about a vet and she said that, if he was acting funny we would know. I shrugged it off, thinking that Rhyno was fine. Just about 30 minutes ago I heard a strange noise that sounded like coughing. It was Rhyno. Now I feel horrible. I don't know if it was just him coughing or something going on with the rat poisining. Now I feel like ****, I am just following him around and petting him. Trying to make him feel comfertable. If he dies, I know it'll be my fault. I might plunge into depression for awhile, knowing me. Oh, god I hope he is ok.
amibasuki
you shouldn't be blaming yourself as bad as you are right now. it's not like you did it on purpose. and you still don't know for sure if he got into the rat poisoning or not; everything could still turn out fine. I hope all goes well for you.
James
Take him outside onto the grass. My cousin's dog ate rat poison once...and he was okay. You have to put him on grass for two reasons. First, he will vomit a lot. Dogs and cats automatically vomit to clean that stuff out. And second, he'll probably eat some of the grass. I don't know exactly why...but dogs and cats seem to eat grass a bit when they are ill. It must have some quality that helps *shrug* So yeah, just be gentle...carry him onto your lawn or something and see what he does. Also, check to see if any rat poison has actually been eaten. And...finally, you might want to ring a vet for advice anyway. Just incase.
Chaos
Eh, you don't need to beat yourself up about it. If something does happen to your cat [God forbid], it wouldn't be your fault. It would be no one's fault. Things happen for a reason, in some shape or form. Whether or not it's good is out of our control. Some signs, however, if your cat did eat rat poison, he'll stagger around as if he would be drunk [I'd bet you'd rather have a drunk cat]. Also, glossy eyes and little responce to noise are other hints, and of course vomitting erradically. ...I suppose working at an animal shelter does have some advantages... What little consolance I can offer, I forward it to you. I doubt there are many pains worse than loosing such a close friend. Edit: Not to sound sour or anything, but should your cat die or become seriously ill, the best thing to do is to realize that it is NOT your fault. You can't be at fault for for something you didn't know of.
Delian
Have you tried calling your nearest vet or the Animal Toxicology hotline? Just let them know the exact poison your cat has eaten and they should be able to help you. In the meantime keep your cat outside. They usually eat grass to help them vomit out anything that upsets their stomachs, but keep an eye on him. You can even try giving him Wiskas milk,I guess. Milk usually help for humans:therock: If he start acting strangely, then I do suggest you wrap him up in something warm and take him to the vet. Lady Asphyxia
Well, by now you'll probably know if your cat has been poisioned or not, so please tell us the outcome? I can't really help you with anything practical, and the people above have probably helped quite a bit...

It's like syrup of ipecac for pets. Plus don't worry. I've seen dogs live through rat poisoning. Rat poisoning has an agent in it which decreases the vitamin k in your body. Vitamin k is what makes your blod clot, so pretty much it makes your cat or a rat's blood run think like water. Make sure he doesn't get injured or he will bleed out like a m*****f***er. Don't worry I've seen it on Animal Hospital or something of the sort on animal planet where a dog was poisoned by rat poison. I would definetly suggest if you think it is to take it to someone who will know how to take care of it. A vet, or animal hospital if you have one in the area. Sephiroth
So what is the news with Rhyno now? It has passed 24 hours so you would be able to tell by now whether Rhyno has been poisoned or not

Apparently, he sniffed around the poison a bit but didn't consume any. The second I see anything about a sick cat, I swoop in. lol.

Your cat should be fine as the rat poisoning would work as a very small dosage of poison to your cat, note the name RAT poisoning. As long as there is a tiny slit in your garage, your cat's probably fine as it had a little cycle of the deoxygenated air of escaping and having oxygen pass through. I sure hope he's OK, but I have no doubts. So yes like Spehiroth said, is your cat OK now?
Guest Musahi
Well as CWB said Rhyno is fine. But when I woke up this morning I found a note from my mom. It says: "Rhyno got out, I can't find him." I already went looking. I'll probably make posters or something, and go look again when it is later. I miss him already.
Ravenstorture
I lived in Greece for half a year, and they have a cat problem. The cats are domestic, but breed in the wild and live off the taverna's scraps and rubbish. The Grecians lace goat meat with broken glass and arsenic and leave it around the towns. When I lived there, I had a friend called Marinos who owned a cat. She was beautiful and very, very pregnant when I met her. He gave me one of the kittens, who we called 'Thavma' which is greek for miracle. we named her that because she became very sick twice and recovered. A few weeks before we were to leave for England, Thavma came in one night and got on my bed. She wouldn't lie down and was meowing loudly. I lit a candle only to see that her tail had been skinned a third of the way, the skin pulled up to the top half of her tail. Someone must have shut her tail in the door because it was broken, too. The next day we took her to the vet and they amputated the tail. It cost seventeen dollars, or 2800 drachma at the time. She recovered, but the day before we left I went for a walk and I found her mother lieing in the grass at the side of the road. She was still breathing, but her eyes had been eaten out by ants and she was completely paralysed. There was blood running from her nose and mouth. We left greece four years ago. I doubt that Thavma is still alive. I am glad that your cat made it.
