Tenchu 3: Wrath of Heaven

Tenchu 3: Wrath of Heaven

The latest Playstation Magazine (PSM) came with a DVD. I curiously watched every trailer on the disc. After finishing it, only 2 of them really stood out. Red Dead Revolver, and Tenchu 3: Wrath of Heaven. I couldn't find much information on Red Dead Revolver so I decided to make a thread about the other.

Story: Set not too long after the events of the original game, Tenchu 3 continues the exploits of Rikimaru as it is revealed that he did not perish at the conclusion of part one. Long debated by hardcore fans and casual followers of the game?s story line (and unanswered in the prequel that was Tenchu 2), the reappearance of Rikimaru is a surprising one. Once again set on a path that sees our faithful Shinobi-Ryu assassin face to face with treacherous foes and warriors, Wrath of Heaven is a combination of the first games realistic simulation aspects and next-generation power via the PlayStation 2.

Graphics: From what I saw on the DVD the graphics are amazing. The rain effects are the best I have seen since Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty, maybe better. The motions were smooth and the frame rate was solid. Also, Rikimaru is very detailed and looks great.

Sound: To tell you the truth I can't remember the music. But I can still hear the sound of Rikimaru running on the rooftops. Not to mention the rain hitting the groud.

That is all I can think to put right now. I sure know that I am looking forward to this games release, what do you think about it. I now leave you with a few screen shots from the game.

I feel somewhat like an outcast. I was apparently one of the few people who simply hates the Tenchu series. The stealth aspect just wasn't very impressive (paling in comparison to MGS) and the graphics were plain ugly. They were pitch black and the texture tearing was awful. I understand that ninja lurk about at night, but the lack of background imagery was really a turnoff.

Perhaps the story and game play can make up for it. The shots your provided in your post feature some nice shading and texturing on the character models but everything else looks reminiscent of a PSX game. The actual modeling is poor and the textures appear to be very blurry.

Well I've been looking forward to it for a long time, anyway :)

Stuff I found out a while back:
A new company will be making this game, as to the other two (which suddenly makes me remember that I can't even remember what the other company is called *twitch*).
A new mystery character can be unlocked after completing the game with both Ayame and Rikimaru; like Tenchu 2. However, the company (names forgotten) has decided to keep the character a secret. (Tatsumaru, maybe?)
All there is a new item-special ability type thing. Everytime you perform a stealth kill, you receive a Japanese letter. Once they make up a word (or was it just 10 letters?), a new ability can be learnt, like mind control etc.
And even though it is not clear in those screenshots, I'm sure Rikimaru gets lots of sets of clothes in this game. I've seen him wear a green, brown, white, red, and silver/grey suit. And I seriously doubt all of them were becasue of lighting ¬_¬

Anyway, there's lots more, but I have a sucky memory

And yeah, MGS has a more stealthy type-thing going, for some odd reason.
(Even though this is the ninja game, and MGS is the game with the Stingers and stuff)

You will be eating you words in a moment Crazy African American Boy. You think this game's graphics look so bad eh? Today I found some shots, that are the coolest things in cool-ville. So ha!

Now I admit in this first one he looks a little blocky, but just wait.

See? In this one he is smooth, and pure.

Yes, my eye is still on this game. CWB you NEED to see it in motion too. It's great. :D

Some of the new techniques look relatively cool, but I'm still not very interested. I've just never liked the way Tenchu has played. The fact that it looks dreadful isn't what makes me loathe it. Something about the game just itches me the wrong way. It seemed rather repetitive and the stealth elements weren't as polished as I had hoped...

I've not played the original... But Tenchu 2 was awful. It looked like a 2nd gen PSX game (2 came out quite a bit later than that), and it just wasn't any fun. The gameplay didn't grab my interest and the explanations on what to do were very vague at some points. I never got the interest in this.

So I can't say I'm that interested in this game. I am willing to give it a shot. Either way, I can't say I find the graphics that impressive... but they are hardly horrible... Then again I think Cubivore looks kickass, so who knows :).

The original Tenchu had me hooked, but I must say Tenchu 2 disappointed me greatly. One of the levels was almost identical to another in the original, and the control system wasn't improved at all.

Also, the control system greatly ruined the stealth aspect for me. I could be hunched up against a wall, when a slight twitch on the D-pad caused me to run out into the open, blowing my cover.

If the gameplay is improved, I might consider buying it, but I still think it'll only be worth a rent.

Like Elite I was hooked on the first one, but the second was a dissapointment for the reasons Elite said, but I did like the level editor, that was the only thing I did on Tenchu 2, I hope Tenchu 3 has a updated one.
Either way I'm looking forward to this game, and I'm definatly going to get it.
